Reviews for Anchor's Way Marina
Docked but had to leave, 2016-09-05
Captain: , Baltimore (529)

We called and made a reservation for us and the boat we were traveling with. We advised them of our length and beam. We arrived, docked but we were wider than they understood. They had us in the slip next to the lift well. Our buddy boat they had said they would put into the lift well and when it was clear at 16' beam was wider than normal for them. The owner came down to the dock and said our buddy boat could not stay where they had put us. So, we both left and tied up at the town free walll east of the train bridge.

When we called, we asked about the approach and if there was any depth concerns since the charts showed 2 feet in spots near the marina. The marina staff advised us that the channel had been dreadged to six feet. When we went in, we turned up mud (we draft less than 3 feet). The boats at the marina laughed when we got in and said there is a shoal in the center of the river that gets very shallow just beyond the marina.

I rate them 3 stars because they tried to make things work but their staff need a bit more experience.

Full Service, 2016-03-20

It's good to see this marina come back to life. Annual and transient slips are available. The bridge schedules are accurate and hassle-free. Within a short walk to both downtown St. Joe and Benton Harbor. Great marine surplus store within walking distance too.

Outstanding people and service, 2015-10-04

We had our Hunter 41 hauled out, winterized, and stored here for several years - they have always done a fabulous job at a very fair price. We stayed in one of their slips this year and have enjoyed it more than any where else. The crew here is particularly knowledgeable about sailboats. We are not powerboaters so I can't comment on that (owner Eric has a powerboat). This spring we had the bottom stripped and had barrier coats then bottom paint. The cost was very very fair - and an excellent job. We had a near electrical fire (lots of smoke and some melted plastic) and the staff were immediately on our boat diagnosing and working to correct the problem. They helped us get our boat ready for long term cruising. Someone is always there keeping an eye on the boats, watching for potential problems. The swimming pool was always clean and refreshing. The bathrooms were in great shape. The employees and boaters are a diversified and fun group. Just as we left for a 10 month cruise they got new high speed cable internet. The proximity to excellent restaurants is a bonus. The entire St. Joe area is beautiful. We feel that Eric (owner), Adam, Ken, Joe, Nolan, Jake and the others have always gone over the top in providing excellent service, good communication, and most of all memorable friendships.

there are no negatives - this is one of those really great places that is a hidden gem. If there was a negative then Eric and his crew would immediately address it.

Yard staff are awsome, 2015-07-18
Captain: , muskegon mi (185)

The staff in the yard are excellent, but there seems to be a communication gap between the front office and yard staff. I had some repair work done and they did an excellent job, but it took several weeks longer than they told me it would. So they only get 3 stars, otherwise it would be 5.

My first year here and won't be my last., 2015-02-01

When you spend good money for your boat no matter what size you want a place to make sure the people who pull and winterize your boat know what they are doing, they do here. This is my first year here and I head not such good things about the previous owners here. I cannot speak to the past but, I can tell you that I am very happy to have my Hunter 410 boat here for the winter. Adam and staff do an outstanding job winterizing, and cleaning your hull. Last week I received a call from Adam the yard manager, he wanted to let me know that the cover on my boat was torn in the center part of the boat. He knew I lived 150 miles away and told me he checked out the boat and it was fine and not to worry. He wanted me to know in case I wanted to get up and tarp it. It gave me time to drive up the following week end and put a tarp over the tear and secure the cover. The prices are fair, Adam and his staff have done a great job for me to date. Front office people I have delt with here are ok to deal with, but for the service and haul out and storage they do a great job at Anchor's Way St. Joseph Michigan.
