Reviews for Harbor House Marina and Hotel
Could be better, 2015-02-17
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (250)

We have not been here for a couple of years, but the last time there, all of the previous reviewers issues were in full force. The dolphin tour boats clog up the marina, which is small to begin with. We did not mind the people, but the restrooms are not always open, of course, no showers for marina guests. Staff is nice, but no dockhands available. We will update this review soon, as we will be staying there again in April.

Great Stay Harbor House Marina, 2015-01-19
Captain: , League City, Texas (40)

We have stayed here a few times over the past three years, great location and overall clean organized marina. If you are over 35ft, you need to be in the first two slips or have excellent boating skills especially if the dolphin tour boats are in the marina, it gets real tight. Best to wait outside the marina until the tour boat exits, the few feet are a help. Many restaurants on the Strand in walking distance. Cabs are easily on scene with a phone call and your 10 minutes from the beach. No laundary or showers there is a bathrrom for marina use. The current can be strong exiting and entering the marina. Good dock walking and commercial fishing boats to watch. Not pet friendly as a grassy area is a good distance away. The marina is protected well but the cruise ships coming and going will roll you around a bit.

I had not been here in over 10 years. This little marina is well protected with only about 7 slips (floating dock). VERY tight quarters inside the slip area! Unfortunately, 3 of them are used by tour boats. Had water and both 30/50-amp power. There are no other marina facilities. You check-in and pay at the dock. No showers or laundry facilities.

Good - One block from the Strand historical district. Great food nearby - Fisherman's Wharf, Willie G's, and 2 at the hotel. Next to Elissa Tall ship. Friendly people. Free, self-serve continental breakfast.

Bad - No advance reservations taken. First come, first served. $1.75/ft. No dock hands to help you tie up. Tourists everywhere, and waves from tour boats during the day. Tour boats don't sound horns when leaving the slip, so I almost had a collision coming in. I barely saw his mast moving above the very high dock, and put her in Reverse.

Great Location, but that's all, 2014-07-02

We stayed here one night on our way back from Corpus Christi. The marine is located directly on the Strand in Galveston. There are no showers and the restroom is shared with a restaurant. The marina is very tight, ask for slip 102 as you can drive straight in otherwise be prepare to test your boat handling skills.

Great experience that is close to the Strand, 2014-05-28

We docked here Sept. 2013. Make sure you come on a non holiday day. Otherwise, price is $5.00 a foot. $2 or so, otherwise.
Right by all the action. The Strand. The waterfront. You need to do this just once.

Limited slips at Harbor House, 2012-03-19
Captain: , houston, tx (393)

Stayed at Harbor house March 13 and 14, 2012. They can only really handle two or three boats with beam greater than 12 feet now as one of their slips is always used for a resident sailboat and two(+) are used for berthing and manuevering the two dolphin tour / watch boats that operate from the marina.Great location. The staff is trying to be more accomodating;until a new resteraunt opens they will provide access to rest rooms (no showers though). Continental breakfast is included with the slip fee. An additional tour boat operates off the end of the jetty on the red side exiting-does not cause an issue, just more people on the dock. Low rating based on limited slips.

Harbor House Marina, 2012-01-11
Captain: , Clear Lake Shores (135)

Stopped for lunch. Called the hotel to ask about using a slip for a few hours for lunch. They said no problem - use any open slip (no charge). So we docked in a slip only to have an attendant come out and tell us to move to a different slip. The dolphin watch boat uses the slip we took. So we moved to another - the marina was empty except for one sailboat - and the dolphin watch boat occasionally. We had a nice lunch at the hotel and then walked the Strand. Very little activity on a Wednesday afternoon. it is a great location and they were very accommodating for a 3 hour stay. Watch the current entering and leaving the marina.

Great Location, Marina Good, Management Getting Better, 2011-03-24
Captain: , San Leon, Texas (246)

Talked to the hotel management about their room/slip policy before I sailed down to Galveston. Management told me that if I reserved a slip I would have to rent a hotel room and then pay $50.00 for the slip. But that if I just showed up and their was a non-reserved open slip that I would be able to have it at $1.75ft Sun-Thur. My wife and I arrived on a Tuesday and were able to get a slip without a problem. There was only one slip reserved. The location is a great loaction, right by the Strand, resturants and bars. All of these are within walking distance. The Dolphin watch boat does cause a wake during the day leaving the marina. Fri -Sat rate is $2.25ft. and the Holiday and Special event rate is $5.00ft. The marina has good electrical hookups and is in good shape with floating docks. The marina does not have a pumpout or showers available. It is a good stop for seeing the Galveston Strand.

update as of 10-9-10, 2010-10-11
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (68)

Marina will rent slips without a room, but will not take reservations. Basically it is first come first served. I asked the reasoning behind this and was told they had a problem with unauthorized boats coming into the marina and taking slips and they do not want to deal with irate guests whose slips were taken. So instead of policing the marina they just don't take reservations. There was a steady stream of boats in and out that did not pay. Out of about 10 boats I only saw one that was told to vacate the slip. Also the dolphin boat does leave a wake that rocks the marina every hour from 10 AM until 7 PM. If the marina were not in such a good location I would not even consider returning.

Stupid marina, good location, 2010-08-11
Captain: , Houston, TX (1409)

UPDATE 8/11/2010 The "marina" will not rent you a slip unless you also rent a room. Then they charge you $50 extra for the boat slip. If the hotel is full and the marina is empty, no matter, you can't have one of those empty slips. I'd avoid this place like the plague until management gets it's head out of it's ass.

This marina has 7 slips available currently, most allowing boats no wider than 15'. There are two slips that can handle 50' or so boats, or one really big one, 100' or so. It is two blocks from the Strand historical district and there is lots to do here. The marina itself is very limited. Electricity, water and trash only. Toilets available daytime only. No other services or amenities.

Exeptable Harbour, 2010-04-30
Captain: , South Shore Harbour (48)

Harsh current comming in, CONCRETE WALLS padded on one side. Great restraunts and fun events. It would be so much more enjoyable and safer if there wasn't a little green dolphin watching boat annoooooying us and causing a few hundred dollars of damage to our 56ft by whizing through the allready confined space, but it is a trip worth going. If you complain to the captin of the dolphin boat he may stop making soooo much wake while you are there.

Good location, not much else, 2010-04-19
Captain: , Clear Lake (72)

While close to historic Galveston, HHM doesn't have much else going for it. The bathrooms are only open from 11am-midnight, as it's the bathrooms to the HH Lounge. No showers. There is a vending machine on the second floor and an ice machine they will let you use.

The neighboring restaurants, while good, are pricey. Walk SW a few blocks to find more reasonable prices. The closest grocery store is about 6 blocks away.

Be sure to chat with Mike with the Bay Watch I - Dolphin tours, located in the marina. He is usually having a rum and coke after hours on the boat.

For wide craft, be sure to ask for slip 102. It's adjacent to 101, so you'll end up taking two slips.. but if they aren't busy, they won't care.
