Reviews for Harbor East Marina
Planned to stay for the winter of 2015-16..., 2017-09-12
Captain: , Newport Beach, CA (420)

We brought our boat around from Seattle. When we arrived at Harbor East Marina, we planned to stay the winter and then continue our cruise north. At the time, the marina was a little long in the tooth and everyone was told not to walk on the old wooden docks for fear of getting splinters. However, after spending the winter at Harbor East, we decided that the marina was in the perfect location in spite of the run down condition and we chose to make HEM our cruising hub for a full year.
THEN... Harbor East began to redo the entire marina in two phases. The first phase was now complete in June, 2017, and the new docks are really state-of-the-art... In slip pumpouts... heated winter water... nice wide docks with smooth wooden decks... strong AC power... strong wifi (still working out some kinks, but still better than most marina wifi).
The second phase of construction, including dredging the silted up areas, is about to start and will be complete in the Spring of 2018.
Besides the great facilities, why Harbor East? For the urban experience, it really can't be beat... Enterprise rental car and Whole Foods market nearby (with a new 50K sq ft one underconstruction), movie theaters, nice shopping, at least 200 restaurants in Harbor East, Fells Point, Little Italy and the Inner Harbor/Downtown area, all within an easy walk, and a several fitness clubs, one discounted for HEM clients.
No... they don't have a swimming pool or a kids playground, but you can walk to the Ravens and Orioles games and it's an easy drive to Annapolis, WDC and Philadelphia.
We've just renewed our annual contract and plan to spend our third winter at the marina. After cruising for years, we find it hard to find a marina that is comparable in any way.
On top of all of the physical atributes, the staff is friendly and will work with boats to ensure that your stay at HEM is pleasant.

Best marina ever!, 2017-08-30
Captain: , Galesville, MD (121)

Stayed here August 27th and decided to extend until the 31st. I haven't been here in a couple of years and this place has been redone. New floating docks with fendered edges all around to minimize dings, pumpout stations all over place, 50 amp power stations, water, great shower facilities, etc. Very well trained staff, lots of help getting in the slip. Extremely convenient location near Little Italy, Inner Harbor, Aquarium, shopping, etc. Whole Foods is about 4 blocks away for provisions. Brian, one of the managers, told me this is considered a "transient marina" as part of the grant money ($9M) to rehab the facility. They are required to keep 120 slips as transient slips; the full time residents are around 80, I believe with a 15 month waiting list. $3/foot on Fridays, Saturdays and Holidays, otherwise $2.50/foot. A bargain considering the location. Definitely coming back....a lot!

Overnight Visit, 2017-07-19

Stayed there on 9 July. The staff was very professional and the facilities were super clean. Will stay there again soon!

Harbor East Marina, 2017-07-12
Captain: , Blanco, TX (520)

Brand new floating transient docks, lots of help coming into the marina, GREAT location, short walk to Fells Point and many many restaurants. The facilities were top notch, very clean, staff was wonderful, helpful with location, things to see and do. Mid week prices are $2.50/ft($3 on weekends), will return, much to see and do, one night not long enough.

Harbor east marina, 2017-07-01
Captain: , Marina Del Rey (380)

Great location for the inner harbor. Easy access, straight in starboard tie on long A dock. Staff very helpful. Walking to shopping, restaurants, the aquarium, lots of sights to see. West Marine is a 30 min walk. $2.50/ft plus electricity. Not really any place to anchor in the inner harbor near the main water front. Also, A dock is wood and one can easily get splinters, so be careful.

Great location, wonderful staff and support, 2016-07-04
Captain: , Herrington Harbor North (220)

Harbor east was a great place to stay for the fourth of July weekend. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The location can't be beat. It is a bit loud because you are in the middle of a city; we were lulled to sleep by a duet in a nearby restaurant. We did run into shoaling when we moved to our assigned spot. The passage way leading between E/F rows was right at our draft of 4.5 feet. We had to plow through.

Great Marina/Great People, 2015-10-31
Captain: , Merritt Island Florida (250)

Just spent 4 weeks at Harbor East, hated to leave, but, it's starting to get a little cold. The staff are very helpful, attentive and friendly. The location is right near Little Italy, Fells Point and Inner Harbor, wonderful restaurants, too many to visit. Office is staffed 24/7, lounge and restrooms are kept immaculate. The floating docks are very well protected from wind and waves. All in all a great place, and we will be back!

Best Marina Staff on East Coast, 2015-09-27
Captain: , Hilton Head Island, SC (30)

All the information provided by others giving Harbor East Marina a five star rating is accurate. We have been spending a week here every September for over a decade and would not consider going anywhere else. The entire staff is exceptional and each year when we arrive is like coming home to family. We cruise for four months per year and this is our favorite spot on the East Coast. Harbor East has the best location, best security, best restrooms, and friendliest and most competent staff of any Marina we visit. The staff that Capt. Bill Flohr put together over the years has been selected well, trained well, and enjoy their jobs and being with customers and other staff members. I am always amazed at the low personnel turnover at Harbor East in an industry with traditionally high turnover. As long as Captain Bill, Millie, Helen, Tony, Corey, Jonathon, Earnest, Zion and the others I forgot to mention are here, we will continue returning and recommending Harbor East to other cruisers.

Nice marina close to everything, 2015-09-14
Captain: , Seaford, VA (1049)

Stayed a few nights around Labor Day. The place was packed until Monday, and 75% of the boats left. It went from crowded to almost empty overnight.
We felt secure with the gated docks, which as others have said are a little worn, but funcitional. Even though we were close to everything, it was quiet at night. A walk or bike ride will get you to all the tourist sites---we will have to come back to see more.

Close To Everything, 2015-07-16
Captain: , Philadelphia (90)

Stayed here on 06/26/15 & 06/27/15. Took our 5 kids here and had a great time. You can walk to anyplace you want to be and the facilities a very nice.

Great location, 2014-10-09
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (20)

This is my home marina. Great location. However, you should be warned: the outside of A Dock has shoaled in. It's not uncommon for sailboats and some powerboats to become grounded. All, the every upper part of the inside of A Dock is shoaling in.

Tomfoolery thinks you are great!, 2014-10-09
Captain: , Bristol, RI (350)

Inner Harbor East was a great find. The staff is GREAT, knowledgeable, professional, and ready to assist. The docks and restrooms, as well as the captains' lounge is clean and inviting. The services are exactly what we needed. And, it is in the middle of the action and museums.
We loved it and hope to return. Keep doing what you are doing!

Great Restaurant Choices, 2014-07-19
Captain: , Sue Island, Maryland (131)

Visited for a quick Thursday night. Website is not up to date so I had no idea of rates. Was told it was being updated after I asked why was I getting a 20% Thursday discount. All staff members were friendly and very helpful, Finger piers on both sides are handy, but a challenge when backing in, but dock hands gave great instructions. WiFi will be added when they replace decking so I tagged onto the one from Four Seasons. Left earlier on Friday because of the pounding construction noise next door.

Great Service, 2014-06-27
Captain: , Maryland Marina (30)

Spent two nights 6/21 & 6/22/2014. Dock hands were not only friendly, but very helpful. Entire staff was great. Excellent location. Close to downtown harbor and all it's activities. Water taxi close by and there is a free bus route to get around. We will definitely come back. Only complaint was that no WiFi at the docks.

Really nice folks, 2014-06-26
Captain: , Havre de Grace, MD (10)

Spent a weekend with some traveling boaters and had a great time. Marina staff was friendly and responsive. Undergoing renovation but had minimal problems with it. We are looking forward to visiting again especially when the renovations are complete.

Close to down town, 2014-06-25
Captain: , Wall, NJ (420)

Good marina that is close to the activities of Baltimore with out being in the traffic. Spent two nights and will return inthe future. Showers and heads very clean and well maintained. It appears they are doing some maintanance and that in the future the Marina will improve.

Great Experience, 2014-06-09
Captain: , North Charleston, SC (752)

We stayed over the weekend June 6,7,8, 2014. Apparently the "pay for two, get the third night free" deal has gone the way of the ten cent cup of coffee and the DoDo bird but it's still a good deal for being in the heart of the city and action.

The staff is competent and very pleasant. The heads and showers are luxurious and clean as are the washers and driers. The slips are easy to get into and cleats, water and electric are close at hand.

THe docks are sturdy but in need of re-decking. I wouldn't recommend walking barefoot on them. Other than that, it's no big deal.

I can't give five stars because there's no pool or hot tub. Also, this is the first marina office we've been to where out puppy was asked to leave.

If we return to Baltimore in the future, this is where we will stay and I recommend it to anyone who wants to be near downtown.

Great Marina - convenient location, 2014-05-19
Captain: , Annapolis (50)

Friendly and helpful staff. Very convenient to Inner Harbor, Fells Point and Little Italy. My vote for the best marina in Baltimore.

Great Location - Great Docks, 2014-04-15
Captain: , Annapolis (10)

Nice staff that could benefit from some more experience working with boats. Facilities are great. Quality floating docks. Amazing location.

Nice Stop close to aquarium etc, 2013-11-16
Captain: , Narragansett RI (234)

Very good communication on phone and radio, line handlers waiting to assist docking. Nice head and showers. Very close walk to aquarium and museum ships, etc. Lots of other activites within a short walk. Wifi only in lobby even though there are wifi antennas on docks. Supposed to change. Urban marina with good security. Recommended.

Great Marina Close to Inner Harbor, 2013-10-09
Captain: , Galesville, MD (160)

We just spent 5 days at Harbor East Marina. What a great stay. Upon arrival, we hailed the marina on Channel 68 (when you see the Domino Sugar sign). They had our reservation already in hand (definitely call ahead and reserve - there are many, many festivals here during the year). They gave us directions into the fairway and to our slip. As we approached our slip, a dock hand was waiting - we were quickly assisted with docking. Staff was very helpful and courteous. Management was very very helpful. We ended up staying an extra night due to the unforseen weather and the management treated us very well. You are less than a 10 minute walk to the aquarium, marine science center and many, many restaurants. We will certainly go back here in the future.

Top 5% of over 50 marinas visited, 2013-10-03
Captain: , Keyesport, IL (70)

I stopped at over 50 marinas from Muskegon to Baltimore this past summer, and Harbor East Marina ranks amongst the very top percentage, in my opinion. Clean restrooms and showers, awesome location in the safe and secure inner harbor, close to attractions, clean docks and a huge lobby with modern circular tables, fireplace, book exchange, giant flat screen TV, wireless internet connection and the lobby is staffed 24/7. 5 stars if the wireless was available from the dock, but it isn't. I took advantage of their offer of buy two days stay and get the third for only the nominal electric charge. This might only be during the week, I didn't ask about that. As a first time visitor to Baltimore, it was certainly a nice find.

Nice folks, 2013-09-24
Captain: , Jupiter, FL (1306)

The marina is in the perfect location if you want to be downtown.
The docks need work and the power is not too good. 206
There is no wifi to be had and the verizon wireless was surprizingly slow.
All in all it's a fun place to spend a few days.

Baltimore MD Harbor East Marina, 2013-09-17
Captain: , Sandwich (722)

Outstanding marina facility in the heart of Baltimore. GM Capt. Bill is a most delightful character and most informative on places to go, restaurants, and shopping. A 7 mile waterfront promenade wraps around the harbor from Federal Hills on the west to Canton on the east. Restaurants, bars, shopping, museums, sightseeing all in walking distance. Laundry facilities on premise. Bath/Showers very clean.

harbor East Marina, 2013-08-25
Captain: , annapolis (391)

Excellent all around. Staff obliging, bathrooms immaculate, location very good. Near Whole Food Market, CVS store, movie theaters, free circulator buses, and many other conveniences. Dockhands, office personnel friendly and helpful. wi-fi internet access available only in business office-not at slips. Very clean bathrooms and laundry faciilities. An excellent buy for the money--stay 3 nights pay for 2. P.S Ask Capt Flohr for ictures of his sculptures; he is a very talented artist.

Location, Location, Location, 2013-08-21
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1025)

With perhaps the best location of Baltimore's many marinas, this is clearly a great marina. It is within walking distance of Fell's Point, Inner Harbor and Little Italy -- in addition to Whole Foods, CVS and Starbucks. When you add the great staff, the excellent facilities and the superb docks, you clearly have a winner. We have finally found "our" marina in Baltimore!

Charm City's Best Location, 2013-08-10
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (1089)

Harbor East Marina is perfectly located to enjoy the Baltmore Inner Harbor. Virtually everything is within walking distance, and if not, a FREE bus serivce will take you most anywhere else you might want to go.

The marina is well maintained (although they were doing some bulkhead work while we were there), nice floating docks (made of wood so wear your shoes!), a VERY nice Captain's Lounge, super clean head and showers, well staffed with very nice folks, and within a 3 minute walk to Starbucks!

Whether you want to crack crabs at Phiilips, have a wonderful meal in Little Italy, take in a concert on the waterfront, check out the National Aquarium, the historic ships, or do some shopping, Harbor East is the perfect place to dock your boat!

A caring thoughtful marina in a great location, 2013-07-07
Captain: , Mayo Md (10)

This marina has the most caring and thoughtful staff. It's location near little Italy is great. The dock hands were among the best we have ever encountered in in 35 years of sailing on the bay. My wife is handicapped and when she needed assistance in the ladies room, Helen Britton came to her aid. My a/c wasn't working and we have a dog that we would leave to go to dinner and Millie, in the office, got help from Sherrod Marine on a hot Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend and the repair was made quickly, efficiently and at a very reasonable cost. In the meantime Helen sent Ice, cups and a case of water to our boat at no charge. I highly recommend a stay at Harbor East Marina.

Great Location and view, 2013-06-20
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (350)

This marina sits just outside of the Inner Harbor. Great acces to Whole Foods and other stores, including ice cream, and a CVS.

Lowest cost, location OK, 2013-01-14
Captain: , Chebeague Island (929)

This is a good well-kept-up marina. We prefer Inner Harbor for location, but in December (our usual Baltimore visit time) IHE is significantly cheaper.

(2013 edit) Now that we have learned the area, we find we prefer Harbor East -- the only drawback is the longer walk to the Cross Street Market with its oyster bar, and that is offseet by the closeness to Whole Foods and James Joyce (pub). The crew are without exception friendly and helpful.

Great place for a storm., 2012-11-22
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (242)

Brought the boat over from Rock Hall to ride out Sandy. The floating docks handled the 12 foot surge from Isabelle and they are nice and far up from the bay. The location is great for visiting the Inner Harbor easy walk to restaurants and shopping. Near by Whole Foods. Parking was a pain as you have to use a garage but I guess that would be the case with any city marina. The showers were very clean and in good condition. They run winter specials for off season storage.

24/7 security too!, 2012-11-07
Captain: , Camden, Maine (741)

I stayed here for 9 days in Oct, partly to see Baltimore and partly to fly to a boat show. Details of very reasonable fees and 5 star reviews are all correct. But it's also worth noting that the office/lounge/laundry/heads are staffed at all times. That means you can use them any time and that the whole place feels especially secure. And the friendly staff has been working there a long time. Rainy? There's a seven screen first run movie theater about a block away.

Inner Harbor East Marina is centrally located and perfect to access groceries and restaurants in Baltimore. We stayed for 3 nights and were impressed with the professional and responsive manner in wich the marina is operated. When in Baltimiore you have to stay at Inner Harbor East Marina.

Inner Harbor East, 2012-10-16
Captain: , Kent Island Maryland (110)

We stay here frequently and have never had a bad experience. Helen is awesome--allowed us to use the TV area for a spaghetti dinner while watching the Orioles game. Close to Fells Point and Baltimore's Inner Harbor it is our first choice when overnighting in Balto.

Very good marina, close to shopping and attractions, 2012-08-18
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (181)

Have stayed here two times over the last couple of months, the most recent being 8/12/2012 and I will go back again.

Docks are in good condition and and the staff is friendly, competant and outgoing. Heads and showers are modern and clean. No on-site ships store.

Great access to the city. Walking distance to shopping including a Whole Foods market for provisioning and a very good wine store. There are numerous restraunts within a couple of blocks and Little Italy is only a couple of blocks further on. Easy access to the aquarium and other tourist attractions.

A Great Facility, 2012-07-31
Captain: , Hollywood, MD (271)

Stayed three nights in late July and couldn't have had a better time in Baltimore. This location is right on the free city bus system, within walking distance to Fell's Point and the Inner Harbor and the staff was the best I have encountered. The Marina office is open 24 hours a day with a nice lounge, spotless restrooms, and Wi-fi. We have stayed at other Inner Harbor marinas, but will always come back to Harbor East. Check it out for yourself.

Great Location, 2012-07-26
Captain: , wye river, md (30)

Harbor East Marina is a great place. Captain Bill and his staff (Millie and Helen) do everything they can to make your stay as easy and relaxing as possible. The marina is very secure and has floating piers, clean showers, and free cable TV. The Marina is in a prefect location. Within walking distance is the Inner Harbor, Fells Point, Little Italy and many more shops and restaurants. Whole Foods and a 24hr CVS drug store are just two blocks away. Access to Baltimore%u2019s FREE bus service (which takes you everywhere) is close by. We wouldn%u2019t stay at any other marina in Baltimore harbor. I highly recommend Harbor East Marina

Best location for downtown Baltimore, 2012-07-17
Captain: , Montreal, PQ, Canada (560)

Great location, close to everything, very central. Access to inner harbour attractions, Fells points shops/restos, etc. Very clean and recent bathroom/showers. Staff very friendly and helpfull. Good deals for prolonged stays.

Four and a half stars, 2012-06-20
Captain: , Annapolis (795)

This marina has an unbeatable location for Baltimore. Staff is friendly and helpful. Heads, piers, and the office are very well maintained and clean. Plenty of reference materials in the office as well as a single washer and dryer. Highly recommend this marina - best marina in Baltimore by far. Only gripe is the size of the heads. Men's room is a 2.5 holer with two showers - inadequate for a crowded weekend. Staff was diligent about keeping the head clean and stocked, though.

Recommended, 2012-06-12
Captain: , Phildelphia, PA (10)

Secure, Great location. Walking to Fells point in one direction to the Stadium in the other direction and all points in between is no problem. We walked to the shops at inner harbor at night and felt safe. We only walked to Fells during the day so no opinion on safety. The marina staff is friendly and helpful. Facilities are immaculate. Docks are servicelable but they are clean. They look powerwashed a little too agreesively that causes them to spilnter. Surrounding boaters were a good group. We will stay there again on the next visit to Baltimore. We refuled at Baltimore Marine Center. Sign up for the discount club. Free and gerts you .05 cents off agallon anywhere in the harbor according to BMC.

Baltimore Grand Prix, 2012-06-06
Captain: , Magothy River, MD (51)

We stayed here for 3 nights for the Baltimore Grand Prix last year on our 26ft sailboat and loved it here. Its within walking distance of everything, including a Whole Foods and package store maybe 3 minutes walkingdown the road, tons of restaurants and nightlife. It was very secure, the staff was very helpful, they have wifi, tv, air conditioning, in their main lobby, and absolutely wonderful bathrooms and showers (definitely the best I've found at any marina). They also have a gas grill near the entrance of the dock that anyone can use. Would absolutely recommend this marina for a fun weekend on the town.

Good location, 2012-05-16
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

Very good location. Within walking distance of lots of shops, and restaurants, including little Italy, fells point, harbor place, and orioles Camden yard. Marina charges by the size of the slip (eg if you are in a 40 foot slip you pay for 40 feet. And, while the slips are single loaded (you have a finger.pier on both sides) and are floating they are narrow. The 40 ft slip is only about 15 wide. The first time we stayed here the wind was blowing strongly and we did not want to scrape our 13.5 beam boat down the side of the finger pier so we asked for a wider slip. And they put us in a 50 foot slip which was 17 feet wide but then charged us for 50 feet. So it turned out to be expensive ($250 for two nites for our 36 foot boat). For most recent stay they agreed to put us on a T head and only charged us the 40 foot rate (about $200 for two nites). So while it's a bit pricy the location is very good, the marina is secure, and they have very nice boaters lounge and showers/bath.

The Place to Stay, 2012-02-08
Captain: , Baltimore MD (70)

From the time you call in and Capt Bill or Millie give you your slip assignment your fun starts. The marina is located with in walking distance to too many attractions (restaurant's shopping and museums etc) to talk about I'll just say you owe it to your boating fun to make your stay in Baltimore's Inharbor the best ever stat at tThe Inter Harbor East Marina

Best location for attractions, new facilities, great staff., 2011-07-12
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (186)

There are too many restaurants within walking distance to list. The same can be said of local attractions and entertainment. The new office and bathrooms/showers are very nice. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Definitely best location, 2011-07-09
Captain: , Stafford, VA (1079)

Full finger piers on both sides are great for washing and waxing the boat. Great view of the harbor, and a short walk to many excellent restaurants. The new showers are great.

Best Location, 2011-07-08
Captain: , Annapolis (95)

We stop here a couple of times each year. Sometimes we head to Fells Point, sometimes to Little Italy and other times to the Inner Harbor. Nice folks and easy in/out.

Very Convenient, 2011-04-30
Captain: , New London, PA (302)

Great location to explore Baltimore, 2010-08-16
Captain: , Red Wing, MN (384)

Located midway betweeen Harbor center and Fell's landing. Two areas you should not miss on a visit here. No dockhand available to help us into slip on a breezy day. We were on our own and bot in without damage but difficult. Unbelievalbe amount of trash in harbor after a two inch rain! Check the strainers!

Great in town location, 2010-08-06
Captain: , Stratford, CT (146)

We stayed for one night only in July 2010. Dock staff was not great (but no worse than most other marinas. All the staff was helpful and friendly. The location is hard to beat.

Construction is Over! What a neighborhood..., 2010-05-19
Captain: , Sassafras River, MD (137)

The construction is finally over and the trailers are gone. Offices and facilities have moved to new digs. New head facilities are top nothc, although not very many for the size of the marina. This is rapidly becoming a very desirable neighborhood with a myriad of excellent restaurants, clubs, movie theatres within walking distance. Reasonable rates and a great place to come with a lrge group if you reserve in advnce and request "the party tent" which is a lrage tent in an open area in the floating docks.

Great Location, 2009-10-11
Captain: , New Rochelle, NY (1000)

A very friendly staff and fair prices make this a great place to stay. I checked in for a few days and ended up staying 9 days. A short walk in one direction and you're in Fell's Point. A short walk the other way and you're at the Inner Harbor. It is also a stop on the Water Taxi.

Great Location, 2009-09-29

One of my favorite stops. Marina office and ships store area have been in temporary quaters ( trailers ) for three years awaiting completion of large commerical complex. Docks are excellent with full piers on both sides. Bathroom and shower facilities in trailers are clean and very nice. Grocery stores, theater, many great resturants nearby. Also close but not too close to Interharbor activities. On the negative side, the only on site pump out available is via private pump out boat-$39 for uptp 50 gal.

Looking a little like a has-been, 2009-06-18

In spite of the friendly staff, terrific location and excellent if dated facilities, you get the impression that management really doesn't care much about this marina or its occupants. Other than the low voltage on the docks (200-205 volts) , everything works but the place has a down-and-out look about it, there's little activity on the piers, and there are lots of vacancies. Still, the location is so good and the price so fair I'd probably stay here again.

Major Construction, 2007-07-09

There is major construction going on here until 2008. A five story underground parking garage with a high rise on top. The office and restrooms are in trailers and the noise and dirt are real problems.
