Reviews for Harbor Beach Municipal Marina
Safety In The Harbor, 2016-09-02
Captain: , Portage Lakes, OH (183)

Nice little marina. The docks and bathrooms need a little TLC, but is sufficient. Stayed here for 3 nights while waiting for the waves to "lay down". A couple little gems downtown (park and library), which the courtesy van will happily take you to. The Harbourmaster does a great job of bringing business to the locals here in Harbor Beach.

Good protection, quiet, 2016-09-01

Short walk to town which offers basic needs. marina is a little tired but everything works and protection is great.

Facilities Need Some Maintenance, 2015-07-26
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (1234)

Hate to "ding" this marina, but their facilities need some upkeep. It's okay that it's not new, it just wasn't very clean. The restrooms and showers are not exclusive to boaters - they're unlocked. If you take the favored East entrance, heed harbormaster's guidance on staying 100ft off the breakwall to approach fuel dock. We were only there overnight to take refuge from oncoming Tstorms - the scenery is pretty industrial. We had some great dock neighbors though. Next time I think I would just anchor out here if we need shelter.

Only 3-Stars, but a solid 3-stars, 2015-06-25
Captain: , Iuka, MS (1130)

Good jumping off point for crossing Saginaw Bay. Well-protected harbor, but rickety docks--choose carefully. Very easy fuel-dock access from the North harbor entrance. Only one of the two charted greens is on station within the marina. Don't get confused by the reds which were used by the industrial plant also within the breakwater. Town is easy bike ride, but would be a long walk. No laundry; no security.

a Good location but needs work, 2014-07-26
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1997)

The marina is in a good location for stepping up the west shore of Lake Huron from Port Huron.
The depths at least this year were OK entering and exiting via the north wall entrance.
It was a little skinny between the green and the fuel dock showing a spot of 7'.
At the docks was OK but the docks are in bad need of repair with several leaning at 45 degrees to the south. One of which was friends in a 53' trawler that almost pulled the dock out when a strong northerly blow came thru.
There was no security at the marina and I was awakened several times by non boaters wandering around very early in the morning.
Staff were attentive and we never used the facilities so no comment there.

Harbor of Refuge, 2014-07-17
Captain: , Port Franks (176)

A nice safe Harbor of Refuge, rising lake levels have eased the depth issues, there is plenty of room to anchor in the shadow of the electric plant. Facilities are clean and well kept but the next time I will anchor out here.

A harbor in need if needed, 2014-06-26
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

Good staging harbor to cross Saginaw Bay going north to Harrisonville at trawler speed of 7 knts.. the lake levels are lcurrently + 1'so I saw 8 feet true depth coming in the north entrance and 7' at fuel dock. The bottom is very soft if you touch. They are doing some repairs and dredging.

A good visit, 2013-08-21
Captain: , traverse city (120)

Frriendly and helpful staff, clean showers & RR's, no problem for our 4.5ft draft sailboat. A little in need of a facelift, but ok.

Ok Stop Heading North (or South), 2013-06-25
Captain: , La Salle, MI (122)

This is a convenient stop for slower boats heading north or south before and after crossing Saginaw Bay. It is very protected but the entrance to the marina itself is shallow maybe 4 ft. We watched a sailboat get stuck and have to be towed out where they anchored. Clean facilities with friendly dock folks. There is a small restaurant and convenience store within easy walking distance but the town itself is a hike.

Captain: , Leamington, Ontario (710)

A long way from restaurants, provisions, but marina staff will drive you into town and pick you up. Very, very shallow getting in and out, older facility but clean.

Thin and weedy, 2012-07-21
Captain: , Sault Ste Marie, MI (240)

It was thin for much of the last half of the way down the middle breakwater to the marina. Once in the marina the only direction from the one staff on duty, who was busy fueling another boat was "Pick any one on C dock". Heading toward the end of C Dock I was warned by docked boaters that "It gets shallow down there". It turns out shallow means about 6". I pulled into a slip not as far down which was weed choked and which may have fouled my bow thruster. I heard the staff guy tell a boat with 6' draft trying to get in that there was only 4 1/2-5' of water. I hope I have made my point that it is shallow in this marina. Also C dock is a very long walk to the office/restrooms. I will try to avoid this place in the future.

Good lay over out of Bay City, 2012-02-29
Captain: , Pier 7 Bay City MI (308)

Good spot to get out of the weather when it starts blowing. Fishing is good in the spring in the inner harbor.

Fine place, no real draw though, 2011-08-10
Captain: , Detroit (720)

I've only been once, just because there was nothing to bring me there over Lexington or Port Sanilac. Nice little town, a fair walk through a nice path of wilderness trail. Winds can really bang you around off the northern lake. Be watchfull over all entry points for depth.

Very shallow at the marina, and on the way in from the North
Entrance. Good staff, wi-fi at office, a worn out marina that needs some love and care. Town is really quiet. No easy walk to any grocery store.

Harbor Beach Marina, 2011-02-07
Captain: , Jupiter, FL (586)

It's a marina. Great staff and the boat stayed tied up so that was good. Not the most scenic spot I have stayed at.

Harbor Beach, 2010-06-12
Captain: , Whitehall, Mi (1754)

Nice facilities like most michgian marinas. Marina has secondary breakwall to keep it calm. Nice to have floating docks.

Staff helpful.

Quiet Harbor , 2009-09-10
Captain: , Absarokee Mt (1228)

Labor day weekend, not much happening. plenty of space and quiet. Just what we needed after coming up from Detroit

Harbor Beach Marina, 2009-02-28
Captain: , Whitby (1653)

Not the most picturesque, this marina is well run and very friendly. A van is available for grocery runs. A radio-keyed fog horn is in service. Quality fuel, sturdy docks, excellent service.
