Reviews for Halifax River Yacht Club
Great club, crew and members!, 2016-05-13
Captain: , Marblehead, ma (61)

Recently had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful and historic club. The dock master, Peter, could not have been more friendly and helpful. We toured the club and met many charming and welcoming members.
Can't wait to return on our fall passage.

We will return!, 2016-04-30
Captain: , St. Thomas (90)

What a great Marina to spend some time. We were met at the dock by Ray and he couldn't have been more helpful. We had lunch at the pool, did our laundry, walked to the farmer's market (Saturday morning) and enjoyed meeting some of the members. Very friendly club! Thank you for your hospitality.

Treated like royalty!, 2016-03-29
Captain: , Colchester VT (380)

We read the reviews and thought it too good to be true. $1.25 per ft at a yacht club!!! Called and Ray took our reservation but we had to adjust it a day due to weather - Ray was completely accommodating. Both Ray and we kept in touch the next day about our arrival and when we got there he was waiting at the transient dock to assist us. He then registered us and gave us a complete tour of the yacht club. HRYC is the oldest east coast yacht club still in its original site and has a rich history for which they had a wonderful display in the clubhouse. The club is absolutely beautiful! They have a pool, Tiki bar, a super clean shower, and ALL of the people there are very friendly. We were treated like royalty. They only have room for three transient boats so calling for a reservation is a good idea. A stop here is a must!!!

One of the bests., 2016-02-23
Captain: , Flagler Beach, Florida 32136 (305)

Dockmaster Peter and Ray make this Marina feel like home. They are the very best and that goes for the rest of the folks here. Visited several times and all the same. Glad to see ya, come again, Anything they can do is always offered. Makes the LittleBit want to stop each and every time we are in the Daytona Beach area. Definatel y a 5 star Marina.

This is a nice club. The Dockmaster, Pete, makes it a Great Club. The members are very cordial and helpful but Pete is beyond compare.

ONE OF THE VERY BEST, 2015-12-02
Captain: , Hampton, VA (331)

We'd been here before and loved the place. This time we were originally told they were booked for transient space so were just going to anchor. Pete (dockmaster) took the time to call us back as we approached from the north and told me he'd made room for us! Absolutely best marina in the entire area at a very nice price. We would have loved to stay longer but only had one day. During our short stay we met several HRYC members, all of whom were friendly and gracious with offers of rides wherever we might need. Even met a member who I apparently had served with in the Navy many years ago! We love this town and especially the HRYC.

Wonderful Place to Stop, 2015-11-27
Captain: , Springfield, VA (130)

From the time that you arrive you recognize that this is a special place to spend the evening. Dockmaster Pete, is the best. You have never had a more welcoming experience. He'll do everything possible to ensure that you're happy. The Yacht Club is beautiful and their restaurants/tiki bar are great. If you can, give it a try.

HHM Saved the Day, 2015-06-08
Captain: , New York City (61)

The choice of this marina was one of the best I ever made We'd had a couple of rough days out at sea and some trouble coming into the ICW, we needed rest- but we were also in need of courtesy and comfort. The staff and facilities are at the level you wish for every time you make a stop.
They couldn't have been more helpful or pleasant. The docks are tidy and well-maintained, the showers and bathrooms are clean. Each dock has bathing and laundry facilities closeby. There's even a little "Boater's Lounge" by the North Basin where you can relax in a nice large air-conditioned room.
Also right nearby on beach street are all sorts of little eateries, bookshops, and cafes- and if you're willing to walk a bit further, a large CVS.
We will definitely be staying there again. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Good place to visit, 2015-05-28
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (1134)

HRYC is a really nice place to stop. Beautiful facility, membership welcomes visitors, good marina and very helpful staff.

Very nice facility, 2015-04-18
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (180)

The chef is amazingly creative and prepares mouth-watering meals. Personnel are attentive and work hard to satisfy members. The pool is nice and the view over the harbor is spectacular.

Great Club and facilities but best of all was pete the dockmaster, 2015-04-09
Captain: , St Petersburg (20)

Pete went out of his way from the minute we got to the dock. From the moment we arrived he went out of his way to make us feel welcome! He is a gem of a dockmaster.

Beautiful club, nice stop, 2015-03-15
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (1476)

Update: 3/15/15: Have stopped here twice since the original review. One of our favorite stops when transiting the area. Very helpful staff. West Marine has moved further away, so isn't as convenient. Great food at the poolside bar. Thanks, HRYC!

Original review: We stopped in for one night while heading north and used our FCYC privileges. Nice protected basin so no current to deal with. Beautiful amenities with restaurant and pool. Nice washer and dryer. Right near old downtown Daytona Beach, and an easy bike ride to the beach. West Marine one block south.

Halifax River YC, 2015-01-13
Captain: , Henderson Harbor, NY (431)

Easy to navigate into. Non-floating docks, but minimal tide movement too. Very good food and service both on the docks and restaurant. Enjoyable Tiki bar with nice setting over-looking the marina Restrooms are clean, good laundry service, and over-all friendly place. I mentioned association with AGLA and was well received.
Fair docking fee and food/drinks were priced as a private club would be. Easy walking distance to everything in Daytona Beach area

Gorgeous facility, 2014-10-23
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Terrific clubhouse, great dockstaff, dockmaster Pete and aasistant Roy work very hard to make sure everything is ok. Channel approach difficulty is overrated. Stay in center and water seemed to be 8.5 feet at low tide. Clubhouse is fabulous, they claim to be oldest club on east coast in the same location.

10-22-14 Here again, Pete is terrific again, very helpfull, great club. Dinner in clubhouse, very good. Depth in channel seemed to be no less than 10' at low tide in center.

Wonderful overnight stop, 2014-04-04
Captain: , Gloucester, Virginia (100)

Beautiful location. Pete, dock master, was very helpful and attentive. Dinner in the Flag Room was superb--friendly club members and staff. Showers were clean and spacios. Would definitely return and urge others to enjoy the wonderfu hospitality.

Outstanding Stopover, 2014-03-28
Captain: , Annapolis (424)

It's still oustanding. Nothing has changed since last year except the dockmaster, now Pete Larmie, and the dockage price. Under pressure from the Council of Florida Yacht Clubs, HRYC agreed to change their per foor transient price to $1.25, still under the average in Florida. All else is unchanged. HRYC is outstanding. Ray is still the best dockhand and he and Pete make a great team. We'll be back.

Based on Active Captain reviews we stopped at HRYC and couldn't have been happier. Well protected basin and a beautiful club dating back to the late 1800's. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful, especially Ray, the assistant dockmaster, who gets our marina employee of the trip award. Unfortunately we were there Sunday and Monday when much of the club is closed. Try to make Tuesday thru Saturday if you can. There is limited transient slip space so be sure to call ahead to reserve. A West Marine store is next door but the best marine equipment deals are an eight block walk away at Surplus Unlimited at 613 W. International Speedway Blvd. You won't be disappointed.

Great overnight stop over, 2014-01-14
Captain: , Daytona Beach (40)

A beautiful yacht club that welcomes visitors. Great Tiki bar and dining room, good docks with power and deep water, pool, showers, landry and only .75 per foot. And the dock master treats you like family. One block to down town Daytona.

Great place to stop and grab a slip., 2013-01-29
Captain: , Jacksonville Florida (417)

The folks running the place have it going on, it's a big city marina and they don't run it like one. They pay attention to the small details and don't leave details unattended to. Great facilities, the Blue Grotto next door has a great appetizer called Succulent Seafoot Appetiser, yum. Good job and well done.

PEOPLE MAKE THE PLACE!, 2012-12-06
Captain: , Hampton,VA (203)

As has been said before, great marina at a really great price if you are a reciprocating YC member, but the people really made our stop special. Dock master Brian was right there to take lines, deliver FREE ICE and provide info on places to (and not to!) go. One of the ladies in the office, Debbie, met us in their beautiful clubhouse and offered up her car for any shopping we needed to do. Even the wait staff at their excellent restaurant was absolutely top notch. This will be on our "must stop at" list for now on! Best deal I've seen so far.

Historic Club, 2012-11-20
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (555)

We stopped here 11/17/12 and earlier in the summer. Both times the Assistant Dockmaster Ray was most helpful. There are many shops and restaurants nearby. The Club has an interesting history and has many items from its past on display inside the Club. The members were also friendly and helpful.

nice as always, 2012-05-07
Captain: , isle of palms,sc (131)

have stayed here several times. excellent facility. Dockhands met us at the slip with a via their dingy and helped us in. Had a card reader, info pkg, shower keys in hand so no long walk to the office. will stay here again.

First class, 2012-05-05
Captain: , Grand Haven (470)

We left Michigan 7 months ago and this is the first 5 star rating that I have given. Every thing was top knotch from the staff, pool, showers, bar, and resturant. You do have to be a member of yacht club. If you can get in do it!!

Halifax River Yacht Club/ MTOA in Daytona/YCA, 2012-03-23
Captain: , Emerald Isle, NC (300)

If you are a member of the MTOA you can get in!!!! What a great place - 2 restaurants, a pool, right down town in the "artsy" section, and all for $0.75 per foot!!!! Only 3 transient slips so you may have to travel off season to get in, but a good alternative to any marina in the area. Chris & Frank Erwin / Mates 47

It doesn't get any better than HRYC, 2011-12-03
Captain: , jackson, TN (884)

A large new club with all the amenities. Tiki Bar, heated pool, spotless restrooms, boater's lounge with wi-fi and TV, formal and informal dining with excellent food and service. Dockmaster Brian and Hostess Debbie go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The members are very friendly and helpful. This is a not to miss yacht club stop at extreemly reasonable rates. Shopping and West Marine close by.

Top Notch Yacht Club, 2011-11-29
Captain: , Huron Ohio (547)

We stopped on 11/13, so my son could drive over from Winter Park. EVERYONE was friendly, very helpful and had a wonderful meal.

Great Yacht Club, 2011-11-04
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (1135)

The club is beautiful! Has a heated pool and wonderful people. We had dinner at the Flag Bar where it's more casual than the dining room and had a great time with the other club members and the bartender was too funny! But there's not much in walking distance.

One of the best on the ICW, 2011-10-20
Captain: , Annapolis (30)

Facilities are great. New building and Dockmaster Brian is great. We stayed 3 nights to avoid some bad weather. Just remember ..... no credit cards.

Friendly and inviting Club, 2011-01-15
Captain: , santa fe,nm (30)

We visited late in the day and was told to come on in and exactly where to tie. Then invited us to join club members in their resturant and enjoy. Everyone was friendly and made us feel at home. Saturday moring we walked accross street to Farmers Market. Dockmaster Brian, asst. Preston.

Halifax River Yacht Club, 2010-12-18
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1637)

A very good spot to stop if you are going to spend a some time. We were only there for an overnight and we could not take advantage of all their facilities.

Be sure to stay here, 2010-11-20
Captain: , Poughkeepsie, NY (5686)

The yacht club is first rate but they do require you to be a member of a recognized yacht club. We're from the Poughkeepsie YC and had no problems getting a dock and at $0.75/ft, it's a bargain (it comes with a free budget of ice too).

If you arrive on a Friday, be sure to dine at the seafood buffet, it's a great selection for $25. They have more than just seafood (sliced roast beef, chicken, etc.) and it's all good.

The nearest supermarket is 3 miles away but there is a West Marine store next door (south). They are pet friendly with lots of grass nearby for walking.

Great place!, 2010-10-31
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (134)

As previously stated, Brian the Dockmaster, is extremely friendly and helpful. The dockage is 75 cents per foot and Brian delivered a free bucket of ice.
The facilities are top notch. We arrived on a Friday, which means there was a Happy Hour with live music, and a great seafood buffet.
Then Saturday morning, it's only a short walk to a great farmer's market.
We will be back.

First Class Facility, 2010-05-05
Captain: , Sarasota (1427)

All the previous comments still hold true. This is a great stop if you have club reciprocity. The restaurant is also excellent. The club members are friendly. Weve stayed here several times and have always had an enjoyable time. And you can walk (10 mins) to see a minor league baseball game!
BTW, note that all the overhead photos of the club (Google Earth, Marinas.com, and including the one here) are out of date. They all show an old building on the water. That space is now dockage, while they have a new club house on shore.

Halifax River Yacht Club - 11/2009, 2009-11-18
Captain: , Pasadena, MD (1496)

Top notch club. Friendly and helpful members. Price is much better than area commercial marinas. Excellent dining room, excellent casual bar, and outdoor patio Tiki Bar with sandwiches. Captains lounge. WiFi available.

Gem of a club, 2009-06-04
Captain: , New Rochelle, NY (1000)

I came for one nght and stayed four. The dockmaster extrordinaire, Brian Fitzgerald, couldn't have been more helpful. Everything at the club, the bars, the restaurants and the entire facility is first class. The staff is friendly and helpful and the members made me feel right at home. For those of you who are not members of a yacht club and want to be, they have a very attractive non-resident package.
The club is located in the downtown section. Restaurants and shops are right there as well as a great park for walking the dog. You'll need a taxi, though, for a short ride to the supermarket.

Join a reciprocatiing club!, 2009-04-07
Captain: , fairland (2653)

This place is exceptional. The shore facilities are second to none. Nice outdoor bar, wonderful indoor bar and a restaurant that rivals any within 100 miles. However all are closed on Mondays. Small heated pool, nice bath and laundry facilities. The docks are fixed wooden docks and you must tie to the pilings as there are no cleats. Close to WM, but a bit of a hike to grocery. And the price is fantastic.

Chet, HRYC member, 2009-01-12
Captain: , Daytona Beach (340)

Total facility was rebuilt in 2007, replacing 100 year old building.

New club is first class in all respects.
