Reviews for Half Moon Bay Marina
A great stay, 2017-08-31
Captain: , St Petersburg, Fl (10)

The marina was in good shape and constantly maintained. Steve, Dockmaster, was always available day and night on his cell, and responsive. When I called for a reservation, Steve gave us a code to get a 40% discount on an Enterprise vehicle, that he had arranged for marina guests, which gave us a full sized car for under $60/day -- good based on our other New York experience.

You may ask for Margaret, a woman who lives right next to the marina, who I asked for a price to wash our boat. Once agreed she began immediately that afternoon and finished the next morning. I suspect that the job was bigger than she estimated, but she said "a deal is a deal". She was resourceful in other ways. I mentioned difficulty trying to find a replacement overhead light fixture. She asked to see it, took it to a friend to look at, and brought it back repaired at no charge. He cleaned a switch contact missed by two prior electricians.

All in all, our 4 night stay at Half Moon Bay was among the best we've experienced on the Loop.

Stayed here on 9-12-2012. Walk to grocery store, CVS and pizza joint. PLenty of depth getting into. Go above R22 and go straight in. Pumpout, no fuel.

Stopped here again and wanted to add to my comments. Good guys, very accommodating. Note they only take credit cards via the dockwa app

First Class Marina, 2017-08-17
Captain: , Naples Florida (246)

As usual Steve (manager) went out of his way to be efficient. He was out there every morning washing the docks down and shooing the geese away. He and his team are making continual improvements to the facility. I also had the pleasure of docking next to the world famous Charles Hagen.
Always a pleassure to visit this marina.

Great staff, 2017-08-09
Captain: , Milton, VT (30)

Steve was a joy to work with making reservations and Rick was most helpful with pumpout and docking. Love the Team and protected harbor.

2nd visit confirms: Friendly, professional, great facility, and Steve is a treat, 2017-08-08
Captain: , Norwalk Yacht Club (112)

This was our fifth time at Half Moon Bay Marina. After reading over recent posts I watched my depth sounder very closely on the way in and out. I NEVER saw less than 8.5 feet. Once again Steve provided a great slip with ample depth and a wonderful stay.

We were supposed to stop here October 3, but the weather had us hunkered down on City Island. Steve, the dockmaster, called to adivise not to attempt the trip as the weather was so bad. We agreed and said we would arrive Thursday October 8. We spoke again the morning of the 8th and discussed our estimated arrival time (it was well after dark).

Steve was there at the end of the dock, guiding us in via radio and flashlight. We had a great slip in a wonderful facility. He then gave us directions to a great dinner. We'll definitely be back.

Arrived 1730 on July 15, 2016. Steve arranged a slip deep inside the marina. I was a little nervous as "Red Sky" is a full-keeled sailboat that's not the most responsive at slow speeds. I needn't have worried. The lane ways are generous, with plenty of room in which to maneuver. Steve helped us tie up and even assisted in turning the boat around so that our departure in the morning would be easier. His choice was perfect. We needed to make the Battery by 1400 in order to catch a favorable current up the East River. Departing at 0710 had us there at 1230 cruising at around 5 knots (with a lift from the outgoing tide).

There was a concert at a nearby park. The music was audiblle but not loud (a great band too). After the sun set, Haverstraw provided a fireworks show across the river. Our night was so calm restful, I thought I was sleeping on land.

I cannot say enough how much I appreciate the care and attention Steve provides visitors to the Half Moon Bay Marina. He goes so far above and beyond what is expected and truly makes me feel welcome. For me, stopping at Half Moon Bay Marina on my trips up and down the Hudson is the ONLY choice.

MGMT Response- We have 9 feet of DEPTH AT LOW TIDE, 2017-08-05
Captain: , Croton on Hudson, NY (316)

In response to one of the last reviews, we do have at least 9 feet of DEPTH at PEAK LOW TIDE ---all over any of the entrances to the marina, and especially in all of our boat slips. A recent, prior review by Carsten, was written maliciously for completely ulterior motives.
The review is completely fabricated and we always have at least 9 feet. Boats with 8 foot drafts come in with ease very often at low tide.
****We urge everyone to call us first on the phone, as we are very happy to provide you with as much information as posssible.
Also, we have recently received a lot of calls asking about the surrounding town as well as what our clubhouse offers.
There is a clubhouse with restrooms and showers just in front of the marina.
METRO NORTH TRAIN to Grand Central Station is actually very inexpensive and offers senior and regular ticket prices. 39 and 42 min express trains every half hr. No need to ride the expensive Amtrak at the Croton Harmon station- Take Metro North
As pointed out in our guide package, within a half mile walk, you have the top Zagat rated Ocean House Seafood restaurant, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, several great Italian places, the Tavern and a really good Diner....also, Dunkin Donuts, an awesome food mart, a drug store+ a CVS , Gas Station, Chase Bank, all within 1/2 mile
- Several laundry options in town, ranging from 2 free pickup/ delivery places to a nice, do it yourself laundamat.
--The wifi is now working better and is in the process of being upgraded futher.
Enterprise Rental car agency is a block away and offers up to 40 % off to our boaters. Culinary Institute and West Point are favorite places to visit from here ( both have stunningly gorgeous campuses), along with the Vanderbilt Estates, Rockefeller estates, Kykuit etc.
In the future, we urge everyone to call or see us with any questions and/ or concerns, including what to see in the area.

Great time from beginning to end, 2017-08-05
Captain: , Santa Rosa Boat (10)

Great from the beginning to the end at Half Moon Bay! Deep water marina, with NO water depth issues to deal with at low tide.
Very moderate , fair prices - Everything close by within a block or two to go for groceries, restaurants and marine supplies. Wife was delighted with all the food variety there was at A&S Italian deli ( one block walk from marina, next to Memphis Mae's BBQ restaurant.
I can see that Half Moon Bay is a very safe place to avoid hazardous weather, since they're nestled inside a giant protective cove with a strong breakwater.
We first stayed at Half moon over 15 years ago, and this time did not disappoint. We arrived very late in the eve, after a long voyage from Jersey City, NJ. The manager Steve and his staff are spectacular! Very friendly & knowledgeable. We had strong WiFi and perfect electric. Looking forward to returning someday! Thank you Steve! If the association reads this, you have a gem in Steve.

Definitely worth visiting. DEEP Water! Eat well here. Protected and tranquil, 2017-08-05
Captain: , Palm Harbor (20)

4th visit to Half moon bay marina August 2-5, 2017 Came in at PEAK LOW TIDE and measured 9 FEET. Prior reviewer saying lesser amount must have had an axe to grind, and I can't imagine anything negative about beatifully relaxing Half moon bay marina.
There is a new, really great Italian deli that opened up just out of the marina's private entrance. Really great selection there. Also noticed that the Shop Rite supermarket almost doubled in size, and has a huge selection of food and quite an extensive beer selection.
Liquor store next to that Shop Rite, as well as a verly close walk one that's just next door to the post office - maybe a quarter mile walk from boats. Hoping to make it back to Half Moon again this fall. Thanks for the great service and exceptional hospitality guys!
Visited Half Moon Bay ( 3rd visit) July 4th - 11th. Half Moon is the best first stop north of the tumultuous marinas in New York City. We arrived late ( almost 9pm), and Steve as well as his assistant Ricky were there waiting to help tie us up and even drove us into town to eat at the new EATalia restaurant. Half Moon Bay is a very peaceful and scenic spot. Good spot to take a break and go sight seeing to places like West Point Military Academy or the very local, Croton Dam. We found low tide depth to be 9 feet, so not sure what the agenda of the previous reviewer was. We'll definitely be back in the fall. Thanks again guys, for another great stay!

2nd time here & we had a phenemonal time again. Marina is very clean, well maintained and safe. Steve, the mgr, is one of a kind! Always makes everyone who enters his marina feel special. Definitely worth visiting CIA and West Point from this marina. Newly opened Green and Grain natural food market rivals any Whole Foods store, and is a quick 5 minute stroll from the boats.
Greatest laundry service we've encountered anywhere as they have a free pick up/ free delivery and full service on it for just over a buck per pound.
You can really eat well here, with lots of great choices.

good for 6 feet, 2017-08-05
Captain: , Miami (40)

We had a difficult time finding good marinas that could handle our 6 ft. draft. Half moon was very accommodating.

lies, lies and more lies, 2017-07-12
Captain: , copenhagen (40)

We have a 7 foot draft. I called ahead to make sure this would not be a problem. Steve,"No problem we have lots of wter in here - we've had 8.5 foot boats come in at low tide. Trust me I've been doing this for 30 years - we have 3 feet more of water than the charts show - minimum 10-12 feet inside"
CAme in at low tide - showed 6 foot 3 inches at the entrance. Steve said "keep coming - lots of water inside"
It kept shoaling until we got to the slip where it was only 4 foot 11 inches. Needless to say - we were firmly aground in the silt and the mud.
Steve still had the gall to cahrge me for a full night, even though we ahad to leave at 3 a.m. in order to get out at full tide.

if you have a draft more than 5 feet- stay away

Great stop!, 2017-07-04
Captain: , Stuart Fl (30)

We needed a secure stop in the NYC area and this turned out to be a good one.
Well run facility with helpful staff. Steve afforded us the flexibility we needed as our plans had changed and we ended up arriving at the start of the July 4th holiday. We stayed for a week.
We had a great slip on the end which gave us a lot of privacy as well as being able to view all the action, beautiful sunsets and 2 fireworks shows on Half Moon Bay.
Thanks a lot Steve, we will be back.

First Time joy, 2017-07-01
Captain: , Destin Florida (430)

We've bypassed this marina several times choosing to anchor out on the Bay nearby, but decided to stop her this time (late June). Wonderful! Steve and Rick are incredibaly nice and helpful. Steve will bend over backwards to help out. Some of the docks(floating) are a littler ough but are under repair. The slips, at least where we were on the outer dock, are quite roomy. The sea wall provides enlough swell protection to gently rock you to sleep in higher winds and when there is frquent commercial traffic (those big deep wakes). Grocery was an enjoyable walk (1.5 miles). Its quite convienent to the train station and some of the attractions nearby (West Point, Hyde Park, etc.). And the marina has a discount program with Enterprise just down the road. All, in all a stop worth repeating.

Great location to travel to NYC or north to Hudson Valley attractions, 2017-06-30
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7375)

June 2017; this was our 2nd stop at HMBM. Young man working the dock was helpful, but needed some experience/training handling lines. Enjoyable path to walk your dog (be sure to notify HMBM if you have a dog and if it is over 30#, then you go on the "Big Dog Dock") Wifi was not as good as it was in 2013. Dock repairs were in evidence, good sign.

We missed seeing Steve on this visit, but he did call after we left with regrets.

June 2013; Great location to tour the local sites: NYC or north to Culinary Institute, FDR home, Vanderbuilt Mansion. You can take the METRA train either south to NYC or north to Cold Spring & Poughkeepsie where there is a free shuttle (check times) to the FDR and Vanderbuilt homes. We started out on the pump-out dock (great sun-set view from there) as the dog dock was full, Steve moved us inside when an opening came up. Local market is great for breakfast or lunch. Only negatives were the power & pricing. Both locations had only single 30 amp available, but no big deal. Other issue was the pricing, never knew until we settled up what our cost with discounts would be - but we were pleased with the final price. Steve is not your typical dockmaster, we enjoyed our stay at Half-Moon very much.

Perfect marina from which to visit West Point & CIA, 2017-06-30
Captain: , Regatta Pointe (30)

This was our 3rd time staying at Half Moon Bay. We were able to get 40% off a rental car from Enterprise, next door, and drove to West Point and the Culinary Institute. Both have exceptionally gorgeous grounds and are well worth visiting. Marina itself is very clean, quite and tranquil.

Ok stop...not that much to rave about, 2017-06-25
Captain: , Nashville, TN (273)

Good location for a stop after cruising through NYC from Great Kills but that's about all I can say. Despite the claimed discounts for trains, it's still quite a bit more expensive to ride into NYC vs. Staten Island. The marina used to be part of the condo complex but no longer, so you don't have access to the pool or bathhouse. There are some facilities available but the walk is long and the town is up hills, not so good for biking. A good example of becoming an Active Captain sponsor and good marketing vs. actually having 4 or 5 star product.

wonderful place to stay, 2017-06-24
Captain: , Stow, MA (470)

Docks are in good shape and behind a sea wall- no rocking- and had their help getting in. Clean showers were a welcome treat. Although there's no laundry, Steve was nice enough to drive us to the town and we walked back, and stopped at the drug store for sodas and some other supplies on the way back. Note: the pool that is visible near the showers is for the condo residents.

Great place to stop!, 2017-06-20
Captain: , Boston (20)

Staying at Half Moon Bay, leaving our boat here to visit our home.
Beautiful location on the Hudson and Steve goes out of his way to help and make you feel at home. Great location to stop and visit NYC, a train ride away. Less expensive, less rocky than staying in the city. There is a seawall that does keep the rocking to a minimum-even today, with a west wind. Enterprise is 5 minutes away on foot and they still want to pick you up. Quarter mile to half mile away, good restaurants, ice cream shop, CVS (milk, etc), then A&S deli, prepared foods, meats, etc-good place. The Italian restaurant delivers to the boat. Shop Rite grocery is 1.4 miles away but taxi service is prompt and inexpensive. We do not use facilities ashore, but wifi is good. To sum up, great location, great service.

Marina with easy access to town, 2017-06-19
Captain: , Mobile (40)

Enjoyed our stay at this marina. Steve was accomodating and so informative about shopping, restaurants, etc. Bike friendly town with large grocery and CVS nearby. Would stay there again if in the area.

First time here, 2017-06-15
Captain: , Harrison Township Michigan (380)

Stayed there 3 days and had a very enjoyable time. Read all the bad reviews here and I did not find anything that I wouldnt stop here again. Steve has workers working on various projects every day. He came by every day also and asked us if we needed anything. The train station is a $8 ride to get to. We did walk back to the marina once. Went to down town NYC and the CIA using the train. Make sure you ask the ticket people at the station for the cheapest tickets because there are 2 different kinds of trains. The BBQ restaurant and Indian restaurant in town are wonderful.
As stated in other posts it can get rocking and rolling in this marina. We were able to live through it.

I'm editing my prior review, 2017-06-13
Captain: , Kenosha, Wi (90)

I had originally written a negative review yesterday noon. Then at 6:00 pm I received a phone call from Steve, the Harbor Master. That was an incredible display of customer service in my opinion. Given that, I totally revise my prior review and give it a much more positive slant.

The location is convenient to Enterprise rentals and good driving distance to West Point and CIA. The train station is also within close walking distance, along a nicely maintained River Walk.

Docks are well maintained and clean. The surroundings are nice, in the middle of a condo/townhouse community with club and pool. The wifi does need some help, but I am a stickler for good wifi signals.

It also seems to be a Looper meeting point. There were a dozen or so there when we were there.

Steve and other dock hands were there to help you in, and leave if requested.

Better the Second Time around, 2017-06-09
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (1522)

6/7/17 Stayed here again and will from now on. The 3 day stay was better then most. We were on the face dock that runs along the sea wall on the north side. Great place to be except that we were a good walk to get to our friends on the other docks, but with a 25' beam, it was perfect. As said by the previous reviewer, the People that handled our washing were great. We just decided to relax and not cart stuff around. For $17 for multiple loads, it was worth it. One shirt came back on a hanger :) Rented a car from Enterprise, which is a walk away or they will pick you up. Culinary Institure of America (CIA) is about 1 hour drive. For that i might recommend a closer marina if you have time. West Point was about 30 minutes. Great Grocery Store not far away but, in my opinion, to long to walk. Steve and Company are super great. The dock we were on is being repaired and updated. Showing the commitment to better facilities. The guys working on it were great and created a "Bridge" across the work area to get across. Even helped us carry our dock cart filled with groceries across the work area. They love loopers. As a sponsor let them know. Also, grab the train into Manhatten. My opinion easier then other stops where buses and ferries are involved.

(this is from a couple of years ago) This is my first time here and won't be my last. Steve is good as the dockmaster. All reviews about him and the marina are correct. The docks are good and getting better as they are working on them on a daily basis.
A couple of things i think might need verifying. When told the Closest Restaurant was close by (1/3 mile) it was actually 6/10 of a mile. I needed the walk having been sitting all day but still a little hike. They only Take a Check or Cash. They say that in the About section on the reviews but many don't read down on that so thought i would bring it up. They list as having fuel. they do not although they do say it is really close by. That would be across the Hudson, about 4 miles away.
Stuff that isn't all that important in the grand scheme of things for this Fine Marina and Staff but wanted to just make note.
See you on the turnaround.

Good Spot to Stop with a Dog, 2017-06-03

May 30-31, 2017
Steve and staff are great handling lines! They prefer to handle the boat. Stay in the anchorage area until Steve is ready with actual slip assignment and directions.
Bathrooms are average and clean.
Wifi is weak, at least on the end row where we were located.
Great bike path to walk the dog along the shore line.
Boat moves in the slip more than usual. Big sea wall does a real good job of protection, but cannot stop all motion.
There is free Pick up and delivery for was, dry fold laundry service, Ask for Henry 914-271-4435; Sunshine Dry Cleaners. Did a very good job and were punctual for delivery!
Great NY deli within walking distance, A&S Deli.
Beth needed a hair cut; was very pleased with Lexy at Senses Salon. A bit of a hike to walk, but she biked there no problem.

Captain: , Green Cove Springs (81)

We have made six round trips from Stuart to Lake Champlain. Our first trip we stayed at Haverstraw, but once we discovered Half Moon Bay Marina we visit it exclusively. Steve is helpful and professional. As marinas go, HMB is one of our favorites. I recommend it whole hartedly.

Great reception and hospitality; good location, 2017-05-24
Captain: , Herrington Harbor North (220)

Stopped here for four days so we could explore New York City, CIA and West Point. Steve was fantastic. Water wasn't on; he got working by next morning. Dock work was being done but was fixed by second day. Great location and easy walk into town. Wifi isn't great, but works. One shower. Enjoyed our stay.

Still great the second time !!!, 2017-02-24

We were really satisfied with the services offered and of the cleanliness of the place and especially of the welcome, the kindness and the good humor of Steve, the owner of the marina.

We think to return this summer with friends, as we plan to go to New York by sailboat. It will be a pleasure to see Steve again!

Steve and the location...can't go wrong :), 2017-01-18
Captain: , Patterson NY (60)

Half Moon Bay Marina's location on the Hudson River is unmatched. The Main Channel is miles away on the west side of the Hudson so barge traffic is unnoticed. This Marina has a great breakwater wall that blocks waves from the north and west. If you look at the map you'll see that Croton Point Park gives protection from the South. This Marina has a laid back feel with beautiful New England style homes behind and an amazing Hudson River veiw ahead...with Amazing sunsets! There's a river walk at HMBM's entrance. My wife and I loved walking/biking for miles up and down the river. Within a half mile walk you have several stores... Dunkin Donuts, an awesome food mart, drug store, Gas Station, Chase Bank and a few other we havent used. Also within walking distance you have the top Zagat rated "Ocean House" restaurant, Japanese, Chinese, Tavern and a really good Diner. Being the widest part of the Hudson you get great sailing with beautiful views of the hillsides and cliffs. Steve is there for you and goes the extra mile to make sure you're happy. Half Moon Bay is a popular stop for cruisers.... with Steve's service and this beautiful location I can see why. We love this place :)

Great place to stop, 2016-09-26
Captain: , La Crosse, WI (941)

Steve is a busy guy, but took all the time we needed to answer questions and make sure we were taken care of. The local mariners were friendly and helped us get into our slip. Restrooms and showers are clean. Great bicycle trails. We had a (great) quiet night.

Very hospitable, 2016-09-21
Captain: , Cape Cod, MA (203)

Steve and his family really make you feel welcome. Attractive location in serene Half Moon Bay. Docks are old but very serviceable and secure. And contrary to one review they're clean. Yes, you might find bird poop on a finger or two but Steve is there in the morning with a broom. My only criticism is that distances to restaurants (don't know where 40 are) and shops are a bit inaccurate. The Green and Grain (a really exceptional grocery) is exactly a 15 minute walk. The Tavern and other restaurants are at least 20 minutes. But, indeed, all within walking distance. Use your Google maps to get accurate times and distances. We ate at The Tavern. Ambience ho hum but very good burgers and beer selection. A very nice pool is on location, as is an exercise room. I believe they belong to the adjacent condo complex but Steve said he could provide us access (which we didn't use). All-in-all a nice place to stay.

Hard working Dock Master, 2016-09-17
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

09/3/16 I went up the Hudson to escape hurricane Hermine and I was certainly welcomed by Steve who did all he could to get us in. Tight fairways made for interesting maneuvering and it can get rocky in west winds in spite of wave attenuated barrier. Did not go ashore from dock nor see bathrooms, or trash cans or any other facilities so can not rate them.

Just What We Needed!, 2016-09-13
Captain: , East Greenwich, RI (222)

We were in NYC at Liberty Landing Marina when tropical storm Hermine came knocking at that door. We thought it unwise to transit the New Jersey coast at this time so decided to do a bit of exploring up the Hudson. We called Half Moon Bay Marina and secured a slip for several nights with Steve. We were well protected from any wind or waves with the massive break wall that we were behind and the over sized width of the slips made backing in easy.
We enjoyed the short walk to town and ate at several of the local establishments. We also enjoyed the river walk which is accessed right by the marina. Steve was attentive to our needs and even secured us a longer cable so that we could hook up to the cable TV. Scenic views were at each point of the compass so take your camera.

Perfect base from which to visit and enjoy New York City! Just over a mile from the commuter train station. Well kept marina, clean facilities and Harbormaster Steve is friendly and helpful.

Big disappointment & pricy, 2016-08-26
Captain: , Boulder, CO (60)

Although the dock master Steve was nice, nothing else was nice.
The outer docks are not well protected in a N wind, LOTS of bird poop! They do "rake" the mess, but yuck! The old wood docks could use a clean up. The bath rooms were clean, but could use an update. Would not recommend this marina.

Captain: , Bayboro, Fl (40)

Visiting Hmbay for our 6th time. Update Aug. 24th, The newest Green and Grain natural food market is better than any Whole Foods or Wegmans and is an easy 2 block walk.
Don't go in there hungry! Marina has plenty of brand new docks and is very well maintained, with very stable and protected docks.-
You'd be hard pressed to find a friendlier and nicer gentleman running a marina, than Steve Plotkin. He's simply a solid, great guy and has helped us immeasurably on our numerous visits to Half Moon Bay Marina.

Very Nice Place to stay, 2016-08-18
Captain: , Punta Gorda (30)

We were on our way to NYC and south. Looked at all of the marinas to the south before NYC and did not feel that we wanted to stop with a 38 foot sailboat with 5 foot draft. Steve was very good and the internet where we were located is excellent. The grocery is a nice hike, seem more than a mile. We will deffently put this on our llist of places to stay. Coming from Lake Erie this was one of the nicest

Pleasant alternative to Haverstraw, 2016-08-15
Captain: , Stamford, CT (40)

Our time at Half Moon was a winner. Enough water, we draw four feet, to come out of the channel and go to Half Moon. Beautiful setting behind a break wall. Town is a short walk and has all the things a boater could need. Certainly worth exploring going up or down the Hudson.

Another great stay, 2016-08-05
Captain: , Rockport, ON, Canada (265)

This was our second stay here and it was as good as the first. As others have said Steve really puts himself out to see you get everything you need. The only improvements I could see are better WiFi and goose deterence. Good luck with the latter but Steve does his best to keep it off the docks. Great location for the New York visitor!

Its all about Steve, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Portland, ME (240)

We planned this stop about a week in advance. Shortly after making the reservation received a text from Steve introducing himself. Over the course of a few days we exchanged text msg and were able to coordinate deliver of packages to the marina, which were waiting for us when we arrived (Steve delivered).

The marina is a short walk to food, groceries, (check out Green and Grain Food Market for lunch and stores) and all but a laundry. We stayed three days and could easily have stared longer. Beautiful river walk trail is easily accessable.

The marina is definately pets friendly, the adjacent condo complex is definately pets UNfriendly. Let Steve know you have a pet and he will assign you to 'G' dock and all is well.

Great stop, friendly, beautiful scenery, and plenty to do., 2016-07-25
Captain: , Moyock, NC (1084)

The facilities are good and the surroundings beautiful. Docks are well maintained and the approach is easy, no obstructions and 10 ft water depth. The marina manager Steve Plotkin is accommodating. He's not always in the office, but is always on hand by telephone and willing to make an extra effort. Although we don't travel at night, it was dark 9:30 pm when we finally arrived yesterday. Steve kept a check on our progress, gave us direction as we were approaching the dock in the dark, and was at the dock to take our lines when we arrived.

The town of Crotonville is six blocks away, there's a great 1.5 mile walkway to one of the 9-11 monuments, and with the train station and Enterprise closeby, exploration is easy. Our plan is to return next year to stay a month to tour Westpoint to the north, and south to visit the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and other places of interest.

This 2-day stay caught us up on chores and rest. It was enjoyable and everyone was friendly. Our standard poodle Eli; got a dock-bath after being a dinghy-dog for the prior three days. He was ready for the bath, dry, and incidental grooming, before heading out again tomorrow.

Captain: , Southport (10)

This is the third time we stayed at Half Moon Bay and it just gets better!! Steve, the dock master as well as his dock hands are attentive to your every need. He answers your call quickly & directs you in while he is waiting at the slip. His quick wit and easy going nature makes it an all around fun experience. A variety of restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores and Enterprise car rental are within a 10 min walk. HMB offers many amenities but the best part is how Steve treats you like family. You'll also love his son, Evan. Don't miss this gem on the Hudson River!

We called ahead to make sure we could get a slip because we were running later than planned. Steve said it was no problem and was waiting at the dock for us. Approach was easy with his instructions and docks are well protected by sea wall. We thought everything was clean and comfortable and really appreciate the assistance and time from Steve even though we were a late arrival.

One of Those Stop & Take It In Kind of Things, 2016-07-13
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (40)

I dont know if i can say enough positive things about Half Moon Bay Marina - but i'm going to try! Let me start with Steve (Dockmaster). His positive attitude and happy overall demeanor is so refreshing! He will go out of his way time and time again to make sure you have everything you need. Next, the sunset is NOT to be missed. Truly one of those 'stop and take it' in kind of things. The docks are in good condition, bathroom are clean, and there's even a gym! (such a rarity in the marina realm).
Marina is also within walking distance of a fantastic market (Green & Grain) as well as several dining options.

Why not 5 stars?, 2016-07-09
Captain: , Richmond Hills, GA (230)

June 21-25/2016 was our second stay at Half Moon Bay. Steve remembered us from our 2014 visit and welcomed us with m
George to get tied up in a strong wind. The long tie-alongside dock, designated for boaters with dogs, was heaving due to wave action, diminished but not eliminated by the wooden sea wall. Restrooms are clean and the shower is equipped with plenty of hooks. Men's show door needs a little work. A shower caddy for shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, etc., which we've seen in other marinas, would be a nice touch.
Wifi was sporadic at best, even from the balcony or condo meeting room above the office. 90% of the Steve assured us that they're working on it, and told us on the day we left that one component of the aging equipment was fried. Steve promised that HMB will be replacing the old equipment.
The condo association, which is a separate entity from the marina, will not allow addition of a washer and dryer, and the coin laundry is an uphill hike. (They will wash/dry/fold and pick up and deliver on Tuesday and Thursday. Our three loads came to $25, and a half full box of Oxiclean did not make it back with the clean clothes.)
Steve works very, very hard and seems overwhelmed, due at least in part to infant twin daughters, but he truly wants Half Moon Bay Marina to live up to its First Choice designation. Our advice to Steve: take a deep breath, then under-promise and over-deliver. I can't for loving the guy.

Didn't live up to expectations, 2016-07-09
Captain: , montauk ny (150)

We stayed here in early June 2016. As others have started, the dockmaster Steve is very responsive and will bend over backwards for you but he is limited by the marina and condo condtiions. The docks are in need of some TLC, with some loose cleats and old boards and they literally rolled up and down for 2 days. Of course Steve can't controll the weather but it would seem that even given high winds and tides, the docks shouldn't move as much as they did.

Internet was lacking and there was minimal cable. Restrooms and showers were clean and functional. Unfortunately the condos restrict their pool access to residents and are not at all dog friendly. We and others staying at that time were asked to take our dogs off the property, when in fact you must walk thru the condo property to get out of the marina. Again, not something Steve could control.

Shop Rite was a nice bike ride away and other stores and restaurants were walkable and bikeable. Enterprise rent a car will come pick you up and you should ask for the "Looper" rate. Train station and bike path are conveniently located. Worthy of a stop but not the 5 star marina we were expecting.

Manager Steve makes the place, 2016-06-28
Captain: , Annapolis MD. (141)

Steve could not have been more helpful and promptly returned our calls. He told us how close grocery and laundramat were to the marina. if we wanted to do laundry we would have had to take a cab. Steve said he could drop us off or pick us up. If you can, wait till you reach Waterford instead of paying for a slip here. Everything is so convenient at Waterford and cheaper. Maybe anchor in Half Moon Bay and wait for Waterford. But Steve will try his best to help you. He makes the place.

Wonderful stop - Steve is terrific!, 2016-06-27
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (65)

We were in NYC at 79th Boat Basin when our dinghy engine quit running. We searched for a mechanic nearby but had no luck. I found an ad for Half Moon Bay Marina saying they had technicians on call. My husband placed the call and spoke to Steve - he was very helpful and said he'd start a search for a technician. We were coming up on Memorial Day weekend and knew this would stake a few to several days to recitify.
We arrived and Steve and his "intern" :-) helped us with the dock lines in our slip. Steve already had a call in to a mechanic. He was great! Treated us as though we were family! The technician missed us on his first try as he went to the wrong slip. But by the end of the day he'd stopped by, picked up the engine and said he'd have it ready by Tues. after labor day.
We loved the area - easy walk to Amtrak and trains into NYC. Lots of good little restaurants, great grocery stoe and PO all within walking distance. A nice way to stretch our legs after being aboard for a few days without dinghy transportation.
We decided to get train tickets for the weekend and visit our son and his family in western NY. Steve wanted to take us to the train station, but we insisted on walking. Also road our bikes around the area :-)
Dinghy engine arrived on Tuesday. The mechanic stayed to make sure it was working properly and made some adjustments and we were all set.
It's a great stop, and worth the trip up the Hudson. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful sunsets and excellent customer service! Thanks so much Steve!

This is a good stop, except for fuel and no laundry, although Steve will run your laundry to the cleaners for free. Hardly Dog Friendly, 2016-06-22
Captain: , Hobe Sound, Florida (480)

First, the positive comments of other reviewers about the one-man-band dockmaster, harbormaster, and marina manager, Steve Plotkin, are pretty much accurate. He tries very hard and bends over backward to assist and to please. But, the deck appears to be stacked against him by the rules of the adjacent condo association, and what you read about the marina is not totally accurate.

If you read what is said about this marina you will have high expectations for an idyllic stay and if you have no pets aboard you quite possibly will, assuming no windy days. However if you have a dog you will either be on the end of the not so %u201Cconvenient%u201D G Dock or in the marina proper where your dog is not even supposed to walk on the dock, leashed or not. In fact, all of the grounds of the condo complex, even including the marina office, are off limits to pets, and G dock is only %u201Cdog-friendly%u201D because it avoids you taking your dog where it is forbidden to be. In fact, the three spots at the end of G dock for boats with dogs are immediately behind the %u201Cimpressive sea wall%u201D which is not an effective sea wall at all. It%u2019s a massive pile and plank structure that may moderate, but certainly does not %u201Cshelter%u201D your boat from wakes or wind waves. What it does do is to claustrophobically block your view of the river and in fact, G dock can be quite rolly.

But wait, there%u2019s more: The %u201Cfree Wifi%u201D does not work consistently %u2013 at least on the %u201Cdog-friendly%u201D portion of G dock; there is no cable TV service there either, and several of the cleats are loose. Boats passing between the end of G dock and the north end of C dock at low tide stir up the mud. The swimming pool(s) are either out of service or solely for the use of the condo owners, and the %u201Cwalking%u201D distances to the various stores, restaurants and attractions are significantly understated; for example, Croton Dam is a 2.9 mile drive up and down the hills, not a %u201Cless than two mile hike%u201D and the Green & Grain grocery, while within walking distance and fantastic, is closer to half a mile than %u201C2 short blocks.%u201D

Bottom line: This is a nice facility that could be a five if it lived up to the hyperbole that describes it on Active Captain and in its advertising. As it is, expectations are created that cannot be fulfilled.

Good stop with easy access to NYC , 2016-06-12
Captain: , Phoenix (100)

Located on a very picturesque bay not too far from NYC made the slightly inconvenient amenities (a short walk up the hill) palatable. Part of a condo complex, the building included a fitness center along with the bathroom (1 stall only), showers, and pool overlooking the bay. No laundry.

Dockmaster Steve’s heart is in the marina and he bends over backwards to please. Not only did he call twice (once to see if we preferred a slip with easier approach or a slip with better wifi, once to give us marina approach instructions), he then texted us an aerial view of the marina. He loves Loopers and anything you say good about him or the marina makes his day. He will drive you to the train station, though it is only a little more than a mile. Would have liked to have stayed longer.

A little disappointed, 2016-06-10
Captain: , Greenport, NY (437)

We did enjoy the close-by car rental for a few days to do some land tours. However, with a strong northwest wind, the wood slat break-wall only could not protect the harbor. We had two days of a bouncy ride in the harbor. Also, the wifi was up and down as much as the boats. As others have said, the harbor manager is very attentive and helpful.

On our way to Rhode Island we stopped here for a week. We were looking for a safe spot to leave our new Beneteau 40 for a week as I needed to go back to work. This is a beautiful well protected Marina and Steve is a great guy. He helped us with docking and also getting a rental car when there was none available. During the week there were very strong winds and big waves but The boat was well protected and Steve kept an eye on it for us. He definitely goes the extra mile to make sure you are satisfied.

Great people, 2016-05-13
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

All the previous reviews about people are 100% correct. Dockmaster/Manager Steve Plotkin could not have been more helpful. Met Ricky Bates, Divemaster, upon arrival and used his services. He was prompt, efficient and reasonable. Steve had two people washing and sweeping dock of bird droppings as we were arriving. Did not leave boat, no comment on town. Price was 2.20 per foot plus 15.00 per plug, we took two 50 amp. Only negative and it is a big one when warm and no A/C is we received only 199 volts per plug and not 235 so A/C would not run. If electric was repaired would be anxious to return. Never told power problem to marina staff while there. Water depth at dock was 8' at low tide.

5-23-15 Here again, 8' water at low tide. Steve still terrific.
5-12-15 Here again, 8' water at low tide continues. Upgraded from 3 stars to 4 as Steve is so cordial, gave us ride to grocery store, definitly a good stop if the way you are treated means anything to you, Docks are average but Steve excels. Dock is $2.15 foot, active captain price.

Spent five days holed up from Hurricane Juoquin in October. Very windy coming in but lots of help and support tieing up. Easy acces to AMTRAK and town. Enterprise had $20./day rate for full size car so did lots of sightseeing. Dockmeister Steve very accomodating and hgelped us immensely on several occasions. There is no doubt he does go above and beyond and wish more marina operators were like him. Will be back again next spring!

Captain: , Leonardo (30)

Did an overnight up the Hudson from Sandy Hook, NJ. Wanted to check out fall foliage, sleep on the boat, and go to "The Blaze" pumpkin festival thing Sat night in Oct, which was pretty cool. Steve (Harbor Master) was so nice, he even drove us to the event. His marina is very nice. Calm water behind the breakwater, no noisy poeple while we were there, great bathrooms/facilies, no issues with shore power. We walked to Dunkin Donuts in the morning for coffee and donuts Sunday morning. Within 1/2 mile (safe) walk you have 24 hour convenience store, restuarants, CVS, grocery store, etc. We had dinner at Capriccio II which Steve dropped us off at as well, we walked back. Dinner was delicious, their red sauce is the bomb. We didn't have pizza but it looked fantastic. You can have beer/wine with dinner, they serve it even though the place looks like pizza take out. They were nice enough to give us ice to take back to the boat (for evening cocktails). We will definitely go visit Steve and the Half Moon Bay marina again, it was a great trip!

Friendliest people, Phenomenal service and fantastic attitude, 2015-10-10
Captain: , Montreal (10)

Had a great time here at Half Moon Bay during our 3 night stay. Originally planned to stay one evening, but the hospitality shown to us by Steve, the dockmaster, as well as his new assistant Peter was absolutely outstanding. Nicest & friendliest seasonal boaters here as well. One nice couple drove my husband and I to the Croton Dam which is about 1.5 miles from the marina. Quite an impressive site. Steve also gave us fantastic advice on how to get a very inexpensive Enterprise rental car from the agency next door to the marina, and we were able to visit the West Point Academy and beautiful grounds there as well as the Culinary Institute and Vanderbilt Mansions. There's a lot of great other sites very close to the marina as well that we'll visit on our next visit to half moon bay. Don't miss out on the Memphis Mae's BBQ or the ice cream parlor next to it. Delicious! Pizza place ( Cappriccios II) and Croton Diner are all super too. We'll definitely be back next year. Thanks again guys for a terrific stay!

Captain: , Little River, SC (752)

Couldn't ask for better service. Dockhand Rick was there to great us, secured our lines and even dressed them into a Flemish coil! I was astounded. Dockmaster Steve was attentive and very concerned that all our needs were met and we were completely satisfied. Exceleent docks, if a little long to the restrooms/showers. Several restaurants, shops, liquor store and pharmacy within a reasonable walking distance. Amtrak practically at their doorstep for an easy ride to NYC, if desired. Love the place and the people. End transient docks are a little exposed to southerly winds/waves. The marina entrance is not well marked. Had to use chart plotter to get in close enough to find the breakwall. Plenty of water from the river channel to the marina.

Stopped here on the way to Lake Champlain. Steve, the dockmaster, was VERY helpful. He has pride in the marina and it shows. He actually answered the phone after 4:30!! We arrived at night on a new moon - very dark. He talked us in with no issues. The marina is well cared for, clean and a half mile walk to town. One of the best marinas I have seen. We will be back on our return trip.

We agree with all the positive comments about Steve's knowledge and help. He did come to pick us up at the grocery store and was very willing to allow us to move deeper into the marina because unusual seas were rolling in.
Several good eateries within walking distance. Also, the marina's proximity to frequent trains into Manhattan can make it a reasonable base from which to visit NYC.

Stayed for 5 nights, 2015-09-05
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (1234)

Used this as a "base" to keep our sailboat while we explored NYC by rental car. Steve was extremely helpful, as others have written here. If you have a dog, try to ask for the guest dock "G" as it is closest to the dog walk area. The marina is adjacent to a condo complex that has a "no dog" policy on the waterfront. We had one resident tell us to put our dog in a cart, but we frankly declined - we made sure our dog relieved herself outside of the condo property. The marina has a significant "breakwall" which helps attenuate wave action in contrast to Shadows up in Poughkeepsie. Trains and Enterprise rental car are walking distance. A great place to stay.

to see how a marina can and should be run by a staff that is both knowledgeable, helpful and courteous. I was unsure of their location on my approach downriver and after several calls to Steve he was both helpful and patient with my confusion. Half Moon Bay will always be a stop on my trips on the Hudson river.

Great stopover, 2015-08-06
Captain: , Naples, FL (682)

This marina was very convenient for our run upriver from Great Kills. Steve the dockmaster provided all the information we needed for an easy entry and a side tie on the floating dock.
When our elderly relatives visited us here, Steve went out of his way to help with access.
Nearby shops and restaurants, including an Enterprise car rental office, are but a short walk away. We rented a car to explore the local area including a visit to the West Point Military Academy.

Thanks to Active Captain we selected this marina based on cruisers reccommendations. They were right; the manager Steve is the most accomidating fellow you will ever meet. The facility is a little rickety but very suitable for a transient stay, Heads were clean, docks wood floating,. Best part was steves willingness to take my wife Dede to the laundrymat and the great help and guidance in getting us into a easy slip.
We expect to make this a stop on the way back in the Fall we will stay longer -rent a car and see some of the local sights,

We stopped again on the way back home in July. Steve was on a day trip with his baby but ran the joint through rick by non stop phone monitoring. The marina is probablt only a three but with the staff and caring you receive it deserves the extra star. Thanks again for a nice stay --the town was more fun the secind time around.

Excellent Experience, 2015-07-16
Captain: , Ocala FL (586)

Dock Master Steve must not have any life outside of the marina, as he was always there and always willing to assist with ANYTHING! He even gave us a ride around the town just to get us familiar with it. He offered to drive us for groceries or any other errands. Could not ask for better service!
I'd rate it 5 stars if the bathroom facilities did not require stair climbing.
Oyster House restaraunt is NOT to be missed! Not an "eye catcher" on the outside, but truly GREAT seafood on the inside.
Don't order refills of Sodas at the Tavern next door though, as they charge for each one!

A Wonderful Stop, 2015-07-14
Captain: , Gainesville (40)

**UPDATE July 2015** - We stayed here over 4th of July weekend, making this the 4th time we have stopped. As always, we had a great stay. Easy in and out for our slip, and they keep up with repairing/replacing docks as needed. Internet was good (we were in need of an internet fix after New Jersey!), and we enjoyed watching the fireworks across the bay from our boat. Easy one mile walk to the train station and we took advantage of that to visit NYC one day. Short walk into town for many restaurants and the grocery store. We ate at Maes BBQ this time, which was excellent, and also dessert at the ice cream place. Even walked to the laundramat, although I understand there is now a laundry pickup service if needed, and Steve the dockmaster offerered to take us to the grocery (did not need any provisions, but grocery is walkable, about 1.5 miles). Staff were very helpful getting us in, with good directions, and Steve came down right away to welcome us. We will be back - always our go-to marina on the Hudson, and great easy place to visit the city from, without paying the NYC downtown prices (they offer an AGLCA discount).

We very much enjoyed our recent stay here. Steve and the rest of the staff could not have been more helpful, both helping us get into the dock and getting settled, as well as making sure we had everything we needed. Even offered to take us to the train station, and also picked up a couple parts from Home Depot for us. He goes over and above to make sure your stay is pleasant. Showers and restrooms are very clean, and the wifi was great. Town is an easy walk with several good restaurants and ice cream. If you want to see New York City, this is the best spot to leave your boat - the train station is an easy 1 mile walk, and the train ride is only about 45 minutes to Grand Central Station. This was our 3rd visit to Half Moon Bay Marina, and we will definitely be back! One of our favorite marinas!

Very confused by ratings of this facility, 2015-07-10
Captain: , Pasadena, MD (1496)

I know several of the recent reviewers of this facility personally. I'm confused by what I read. Sanctuary and crew stayed at Half Moon Bay on 7/8/2015. We went in thinking we'd avoid so weather, which we never really had.

I agree that the dockmaster, Steve, is friendly and welcoming. He did not land us, but he did come by immediately after we secured and offered us a lot of local information, which would have been helpful had we intended to tour the area The facility's location is convenient to commuter trains and local shopping.

However, compared to my impression of other East Coast "4-Star" marinas, this facility is not up to the level that 4-star ratings should imply. Our findings:

1. The "sea wall" may help in a hurricane, but is slotted, and of no practical help with wakes and lesser sea states. It would "take the top off," but it would still be a rough ride in a westerly blow.
2. The fairway between the sea wall and the outer line of docks (? transient dock) is narrow enough that it would be an operational challenge in any kind of cross winds.
3. The finger piers are dilapidated, narrow and unstable. Some signs of maintenance are evident, but it is a holding action at best, not a general facility refurbishment. The docks themselves are not in what i would call "good condition."
4. Electric service in the basin was at brownout levels. The dock attendant (Rich) who landed us said the town was "having a brownout." Maybe, but the weather was not oppressive to that point, so who knows? Be sure to check before you run a/c compressors.
5. Prices - even at the discount level - are significantly above regional averages, unless the "region" is defined to include NY Harbor. HMB is very, very expensive for a one-night rental of a hole-in-the-water.

I assigned the overall rating here as a "3;" I balanced a strong, helpful staff (4) against a weak infrastructure (2).

Enjoyed our stay at Half Moon Bay, 2015-07-06
Captain: , Sarasota, FL (60)

Enjoyed stay at this marina as we headed up the Hudson. Steve, the dockmaster, could not work harder to care for loopers. The area is an interesting area with a nice walking path along the river's edge. No laundry at marina and not a easy place to re-provision. Fuel is across the river at Haverstraw. Good place to meet many other loopers as they head to the Erie Canal.

Captain: , Sandusky , Ohio (100)

We stayed three nights there because of a breakdown in July. We can't say enough good things about the Dock Master Steve. He went out of his way to make us feel welcome. We received a information sheet. Shopping and restaurants are within walking distance.
His dock hands were very helpful. We would definitely stay again.

A very good marina, 2015-06-22
Captain: , Newcastle upon Tyne (533)

Stayed here 4 nights, a bit longer than intended, so we could attend the (excellent) Clearwater Music Festival. Steve the dockmaster could not have been more helpful, he ran us there and even offered to pick us up Sunday evening, but as the shuttle buses into the park stop by a taxi rank it wasn't necessary. The laundry service is good value, and groceries and restaurants are easily reachable by bike, but Steve will probably take you. Taxis are also easy and charge $7. Good docks with power, water, free pumpout. 4 and a half stars

Great place - easy stop, 2015-06-22
Captain: , Falmouth, Maine (176)

Half Moon Bay is easy to do business with and easy to get in with plenty of depth. Good breakwater makes it safe in a storm.

Walking trails and easy access to several retail stores and restaurants.

Good pumpout but no fuel.

Great Stopover, 2015-06-21
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (42)

Very nice place to stop. Steve was most helpful and everyone was quite nice. Free pumpout. Enterprise car rental close by. Floating docks, easy entry. On return, with weather closing in Steve and Rick assisted in our getting into the slip moments before the arrival of 40 knots of wind and rain.

GOOD PLACE TO STAY, 2015-06-19
Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1643)

Spent 3 days here and it was as good as it was 4 years ago. We rented a car to tour FDR, CIA, and West Point. The fdock are mostly repaired after Sandy but ther is still some repair work being done when we were there. Steve goes out of his way to help you.

Haven on the Hudson, but.., 2015-06-14
Captain: , Marathon, Florida (110)

All the reviews are quite accurate - Half Moon Bay Marina is a real gem and Steve goes "over the top" to help every boater. However, one critical element - the power in the docks is 208 at best. if you're out in the T head, we were lucky to get 200 - and the boats today don't tolerate shortages well!

Great Stop on the Hudson River, 2015-06-12
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4307)

Update 6/15, after third stay at Half Moon Bay

Some find a few nits to pick with the facilities, but overall, everything is in good shape and functioning - solid floating docks, good electricity, many services close in town. This is the best marina for exploring this area of New York. A train ride to Manhattan is less than an hour. The Enterprise rental car agency is a very short walk away, which is often quicker than waiting for them to pick you up. West Point, the FDR Library, and the Culinary Institute are short drives away. Since we had visited those sites on previous visits, we toured some natural sites with hiking trails - many options for all tastes.

in short, looking at price and features, this is the best value in the Lower Hudson/New York City area.

Original Review - 2011
The manager, Steve, is helpful and accommodating, the docks floating, and the town interesting. There is a laundramat with nice washers a cab ride away. The specialty food store, Zeytinia, is worth the stop by itself. The variety of fresh foods is amazing. We purchased some chicken salad from the large salad bar, some croissants from the bakery, and had outstanding sandwiches on the boat. We will return next trip up the river. The only reason we did not award 5 stars, is the lack of laundry facilities on site, but the condo board will not allow the marina to add that feature.

Good spot to stop to visit the area, 2015-06-12
Captain: , Venice (650)

Steve and crew are very nice and accommodating and the docks are being worked on. Bathrooms are limited (one shower, one toilet in men's room), no laundry (you have to go into town). Town and restaurants are not quite a close as advertised, both are a bit of a walk. Taxi ride to train station is $6. Good spot to rent a car and see West Point/Hyde Park/Culinary Institute.Make the effort to see the Croton Dam (only a short drive) - it is amazing.

a truly well run marina with the best dockmaster we've ever seen, 2015-06-11
Captain: , South Portland, Maine (847)

As an update. we came back here after more than a year's absense, having spent the winter avoiding snow. Steve, the dockmaster with phenominol presense and curteous accomidation to any boater's needs, is as charming and helpful as we remember. His little one is now a year older and though a bit shy at 2, seems to have some of his father's consument people skills.

The market is still not open near the marina but shopping is good at Shop Rite near the train station.

We were here off and on for a week in 2013, moving back and forth between Liberty Landing in Jersey City and Croton. This facility was then and still is a great spot to stay with clean bathrooms and a very accomidating marina manager in Steve. He and his wife have a 2 month old (2013) so often when we called, he was obviously sleep deprived but would respond to our calls immediately. By the way it is best to call on the cell rather than VHF as their reception is spotty. The facility is close to a great diner, the Colonial Diner and within walking distance of a hardwae store , bagel spot, gormet food store and the train station for an easy hour run into NYC as well as a dentist who can reattach crowns and give you his opinion on everything. Also a fine nail salon, Coco's at 347 S. Riverside St. for a pedicure , according to my wife. I noticed several boats were left here as the Erie Canal issues clear up with their owners home or off to Paris for a week or two.

We will see definately see Steve again at Half Moon Bay in the Fall as we return south from Cananda and Lake Champlain. Be a little patient with Steve, he is still figuring out how to cope with diapers and his wife. He will get it, but it may take a little time, it took me 36 years.

And the pumpout is free.

Good marina 6/3/15 - 6/10/15, 2015-06-10
Captain: , Atlanta (770)

Stayed here for over a week - $2.00/ft + $10 electric. Fairly easy to take the train into the city; rented Enterprise (5 minute walk away) for trip to Hyde Park. Floating docks. Staff very helpful - I changed my oil here and Steve disposed of waste oil/filter for me. Grocery/laundry a short taxi ($7) ride away. Bath facilities not great (single shower/toilet on men's side) but OK. Free pump-out. Beautiful view of the Hudson from the docks. Timber sea wall diminishes rock/roll in the marina.

HMB The perfect stop Heading up from NYC, 2015-06-05
Captain: , Conway (145)

HMB is a nicely located marina. The easy access to the trains, walking, biking, and restruants is quite welcoming. The trail along the waters edge is nice.

The marina itself is located in a harbor (bay) and there is a man made enclosure for the marina itself. The marina is under repair from ice damage last winter, (they are doing small projects now) but everything is in place. We were on the long northern wall and I liked the bumpers attached to the docks.

Steve is very concerned about his customers, and will do most anything to ensure a great stay. Steve took me to purchase oil for an overdue oil change (over the top service). I also had a package shipped here, and they were very helpful to get the package to me.

The bathroom facilities while clean and usable, are a three star.

Bottom Line: Would I stay here again? Yes

Best thing about the place is the helpfulness of the manager, 2015-06-04
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2870)

I would rate manager Steve's desire to be helpful (he took us and picked us up at the Shop-Rite in town) a 5. The floating docks behind the breakwater were under repair in some spots, but otherwise a 4. The baths/showers were just OK, rating 3. The overall experience was downgraded a bit because we really wanted to get a pump-out and my admiral was looking forward to the cable TV, neither of which worked during our 2-night stay.

great staff, 2015-05-31
Captain: , Chattanooga tn (281)

Marina is good but Steve is fantastic. The docks are well protected with the breakwall that works well. The marina still repairing from ice storm of winter. The docks were adequate but pump out not working due to ice damage. Bathhouse is average. Grocery and laundry within 1,5 miles, train and car rental .5 miles. Steve the dock master goes out of his way. Will go to store for you if needed. Would return again due to the great staff

Good Stop for Price, 2015-05-31
Captain: , Portsmouth, VA (430)

Stayed one night and found good service for the price charged. We use a large, 40', slip for our 42' boat. Piers are in a state of repair and had some exposed nail heads that were potential damagers to boat sides when docking. Had adequate room in slip, water and 50 amp electric satisfactory. Friends met us, dinner in town for Italian, good food at a reasonable price. Dockmaster Steve was very helpful; a hard worker with a number of boats being docked.

Great Hudson Marina, 2015-02-22
Captain: , Huntington (465)

We try to go up the Hudson River in October. Half Moon Bay is our destination as we disembark from LI. It is just the right distance with plenty of variation in our sight seeing. The marina is well maintained and it is a manageable walk into town. Great place.

Our last visit was in November of 2014. Amazing sunset and great foliage given the warm fall. Marina was very helpful and accomodating.

Simply the best, 2015-02-20
Captain: , Summerlin, NV (350)

Echo the previous reviews. This marina and their staff are simply the best! Close walk into town for good food, and even had a wonderful pizza delivered to the dock. Enjoyably decadent!

Like coming back home, 2015-02-20
Captain: , Montreal (136)

There are few places where you arrive after a long stretch of beating upwind and feel like, at last, HOME. This is how I felt when I met Steeve, the dockmaster. He took care of choosing a slip where I would be more confortable while waiting for my friend to join me through the local Amtrack Station at walking distance.
Technicaly, very service is top of the class and local patrons are happy to have a friendly chat with you seeing that you are new to the marina. Another pleasant aspect of the place that I would like to call home.

great marina/best dock master, 2014-10-18
Captain: , Warren, VT (30)

We were anchoring out at Croton Point waiting for weather to clear and of course it got worse than expected. Called Half Moon Bay Marina after reading positive reviews on a friends blog.. Steve, the dock master went above and beyond to accommodate us and help us in on a very rough and windy day. He continued to be helpful with local information and advise for walking/biking/and was available for any questions. The marina is clean, well laid out and protected from weather with large breakwater. The town is supposedly within walking distance with many good restaurants. We will find that out tomorrow when we take a bike ride. An easy place to stop while traveling on the Hudson.

We read a lot about half moon bay on our looper forum and decided to stop in. We are glad we did.
We found Steven to be one of the best customer service people on our journey so far.
He keeps the facility up and loves what he does!
We would definitely return.

Captain: , Toledo, OH (40)

I’m doing my second Great American Loop and have visited pretty many marinas. Among those are many okay marinas and then some one really wants to return. Half Moon Bay marina is one of my outmost favorites. As a marina; everything works, well protected and very easy to enter and leave but the most important is Steve. He is the man! Hope he has strength to continue to work as he does.

The best place to stop on the river, 2014-09-16
Captain: , Avondale, PA (448)

We stayed for only one night while transiting down the Hudson but wished we'd have had time to stay longer. Steve, the manager and dockmaster was extremely friendly and helpful and even sent me some photos he took of our boat. The heads and showers are great. Everything is in good shape. The walk to town was short and pleasant. The Active Captain discount makes this the most reasonable place to stop. It's worth a side trip even if your going up/down the coast and not up the Hudson.

Stopped here after reading other reviews and found them to be accurate. Steve and Rick were very helpful. Steve was kind enough to drive us to train station so we could go to New York for the day. Pool and other facilities were great and clean. Would definitely recommend and will return in spring. Thanks for all your help Steve and young staff member Evan.

A lot of rocking and rooling, 2014-09-02
Captain: , Grand Haven (470)

We stopped on labor day and the bay had a lot of boat traffic.
We did a lot of pitching and rolling. Our location was on the end and we lost wifi a lot. Swimming pool was only for the condo owners.
Steve the dockmaster was very helpful and full of information.

Management response:
Thank you very much for your review. The after effects of a major hurricane (that affected the eastern seaboard) were definitely felt all over during parts of the Labor Day weekend.
We're going to put our future visiting boaters a little closer towards the interior sections of the marina as opposed to the very last few of the outer, more exposed slips. It truly was a pleasure meeting you both, and we do hope you'll be able to visit us again.
PS- The swimming pool will probably be an option for our visiting, transient boaters at some point soon...until then, the beautiful beach next door at Croton Pt. Park has gotten cleaner than ever for swimming.

Can't say enough about the hospitality and kindness shown to us by Steve and his staff. Harbor is well protected in most situations so our nights were calm and peaceful. Really appreciated the strong wifi service. We like to work out and having access to an exercise room was an exceptional treat. Good food, transportation and things to do. We took the train into the city for a day. What a great place! Thanks Steve!

7/21 - Quiet location - helpful dockmaster Steve, 2014-07-26
Captain: , San Juan Capistrano, CA (120)

We stayed for four days. A quiet refuge after NYC. Nice walking path. Rented car from nearby Enterprise to visit Hyde Park attractions. Avoid outer docks if wind is south or SW. No laundrey. No cable at some docks due to winter ice damage. Reasonable walk to eat but groceries require a car. Steve is eager to help as needed.

Management response:
Thank you for your review. There is a great laundramat - Sudz- .08 miles from us- easy walk or Taxi ride away. We have now repaired all of the broken cable wires, so now Direct TV will be available for all slips.

Perfect for an overnight stay, 2014-07-13

Half Moon is a beautiful marina. Great amenities, but most importantly, Steve and his crew there are friendly and extremely accomodating to make sure that you have a good stay. I would highly recommend.

Nice Stop on our Way up the Hudson, 2014-07-10
Captain: , Chicago, IL (52)

We stayed here on July 5-6. Steve is the most accommodating dockmaster we have meet during our loop. He went out of his way to make us feel welcome and even drove us to town and showed us the various restaurants and shops in town. The WIFI was very strong even though we were in one of the outer slips. The approach to the marina is thru consistently deep water - a major plus for deep draft boats. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

Great first stop on the Hudson, 2014-07-10
Captain: , Grand Haven, Michigan (230)

The place is gorgeous. We were able to use the pool, showers are very clean but there is only one.

I didn't see any bird doo on the dock like another review suggested there might be,

Steve the dock master was very helpful he has a special spot to put boats with dogs so you can walk them without disrupting the condo residents, but we didn't have any issues, just don't walk your dog in someone front yard duh, there is a great path along the water if you walk up the driveway.

Walking distance to CVS, post office, chase bank, liquor store & a good bagel/ ice cream shop.

We had a small storm and with it minimal rocking at the dock, but I mean if that bothered me I'd live in on land!

Easy Train Access, 2014-07-06

Great marina for access to NYC by train, also to the midwest on Amtrak. Good WiFi, Cable TV, Dockmaster Steve is lots of fun and works hard for his marina and clients.

We spent 2 days here based on its rating of 1st it got thIs rating is a different issue
The night of 7/3 a storm came thru with wind...the docks were moving up and down and all the boats jumping around.....on the next night 7/4 a front came thru with winds 10-20kn range all night and again the docks were jumping up and down night and the boat was jumping around so much you really had to brace yourself , or be thrown on the floor.

To be a 1st C marina I would expect ...pump out that works, fuel, laundry,

The manager is great and works hard, just does not have a lot to work with

We love Steve!, 2014-07-02

As other postings have implied, Steve (Dockmaster) cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable. He is on the docks almost all the time to make sure everything is fine. Except that there is no laundry on site and some 'dockominium owners' attitudes, this would be a five star...we have been here a month and highly reccommend it it to all...Lots of loopers here, too !!!

Definitely worth stopping by Half Moon Bay, 2014-06-23
Captain: , Boca Raton (40)

Excellent marina and the best customer service I've ever experienced. We've stayed here numerous times over the past few years. Steve has just hired 2 new full time staff women who are exceedingly knowledgeable and make you feel as if you're their only guest. Thanks again to Steve & Ricky for a wonderful stay!
The neighboring Clearwater festival was phenomenal this past weekend. Must checkout place is the Green Growler Craft Beer & Grocery near the big Shop Rite. We were able to catch an early morning train into Grand Central (to visit the new Ground Zero memorial) in New York City. Very calm waters in the marina w the exception of one very windy day. Inside slips are the way to go if heavy wind is in the forecast.
Very short walk to restrooms and showers. 1 block walk to plaza that has delicious Memphis Mae's BBQ, and superb Croton Colonial Diner next to it. Pizza at Cappriccios II is also a must visit here. Town is nicely consolidated so you can walk from one eatery to another without any problems.
Definitely one of the only deep water marinas around. We'll be visiting again soon for sure.

Customer Service Oriented and Dog Friendly! Exceeding our expectations, 2014-06-23

Stayed at Half Moon Bay during the clearwater festival weekend and had so much fun. Great marina - No Ferry Traffic like we had in NYC Harbor. Very clean, well run place. They have a great doggie dock that leads to a very nice 4 mile bike/ dog walking path
Gave us a nice map of the town along with restaurant listings showing over 30 restaurants to check out in the quaint town. Steve, the dockmaster as well as their dockhands were all extremely helpful. Never saw anyone as dedicated to their job as Steve. Will definitely return on a future trip visiting the Hudson.

We stayed here the weekend of the festival next door & based on previous post were worried about the wakes but had no problems. As everyone else said Steve goes out of his way to make it a great marina. Several restaurants, CVS, Post Office & other shops within walking distance. We would recommend this marina & would stop here again.

A Bit Overhyped Maybe First Choice, 2014-06-23
Captain: , Houston, Texas (970)

If you need a spot to 'tourist' from It's probably a good choice. This is a condo complex marina so of course you have transportation and laundry at your condo.

Harbor is 'moderately' protected and the docks are good. Did not use the heads or showers. Pretty pricy for a 1 night stay, close to $3/ft when electricity is included.

Nothing is a close walk. No laundry on site. No fuel. Wifi needs a lot more bandwidth.

Steve is a very nice guy, but he is either overbooked or needs a course in time management.

Get Real Half Moon Bay Marina, 2014-06-22
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (626)

What a disappointment this turned out to be. Steve promises the world but fails to deliver. He talks a lot and listens little. One example: We attempted to get a price for an extended stay out of Steve two weeks prior to our arrival. After much emailing and texting we still didn't get a price out of him. At that point we changed our plans and only spent two nights. The marina lacks facilities and in our opinion is over priced for what they provide.

We to experienced the unattenuated wave action and rocked and rolled all night. I note that this has been improved from 80% to over 90% in one day, a very remarkable feat. It should be noted that this is not a sea wall (a solid structure) but a more a wave screen (with gaps the waves pass through).
There is so much more that could be written here to support our case. We will not be returning.

Just a one night stay, 2014-06-19
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (110)

Everyone loves Steve and that includes us, but he was short handed and we did not feel it met the value and we had to pay by check. Steve cannot control the weather but it was very windy and the protection was not there for the wind. We had the most Rocky night we have had on our 4 months of travel. The setting is beautiful otherwise. Restaurants are convenient and you can grab the train to Manhattan. The amenties are limited - 1 shower only per gender.

Not allowed to use Condo amenities which include the pool.

wonderful experience, 2014-06-15
Captain: , Bay Hill Marina, Athens, AL (121)

We just spent three great days at HMB and loved it. The marina manager, Steve, understands customer service and together with Rick his dock hand, will do anything to make your stay enjoyable. After a hard winter they are repairing and improving the docks.
The location and close by access to a rental car make this an ideal place to visit the many nearby attractions. Don't miss dinning at the CIA!
The only short coming is the distance to the local Laundromat without a car, but Steve has a solution in mind for this.

Great Stop, 2014-06-11

We stayed here June 2. Great place. Nice clean showers and bathrooms. They have a pool but we didn't use it. we enjoyed our two night stay at Half Moon Bay. Steve, the dock master went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. We've never seen anyone try harder than Steve to please his customers. Docks were exceptionally clean. We rented a car and drove to Sleepy Hollow cemetery, a must see. Easy in and out, well protected marina. Steve is the most gracious and helpful fellow I think I have ever met. He's all over the place, but you come first. Nice facility too.....

What More Can be Said, 2014-06-07
Captain: , Tarpon Springs (983)

I can only endorse the previous reviews. Steve went out of his way to help, despite juggling a slew of Loopers who arrived over a short period, and supervising the remaining post-winter maintenance. A most enjoyable and comfortable place to stop, with nearby shops, a great river walk and very easy access.

Nice spot on the east side of the Hudson, 2014-05-27
Captain: , Phoenix (580)

This is a nice marina. Steve, the dock manager, is the greatest guy. He is busy completing repairs from the winter damage but he made time to help us out. Customers come first. He is there to help out in any way he can. Give this place a shot heading up or down the Hudson.

Super Steve at your service, 2014-05-12
Captain: , Nowhere,OK (1314)

Great location tucked in the cove behind a seawall (riverwall?) Steve was super helpful getting us docked and tied up. New dockboards to fix winter ice damage, rest of the marina is well maintained. We were the first looper of the season, but everything was in full swing. Showers, sauna! and a training room are available.

Town is a short walk, or a $7 taxi ride. Steve gave us a ride to a plaza to save the walk! Pizza, deli, sushi, Mexcian, pharm, Post Office, liquor and bank all together. We did a short taxi ride to The Tavern at Croton Landing. It's an old time bar with great service and standard pub grub.

We did a short stroll down to the Ocean House. A little pricey, but the food was very good. Oysters on the 1/2 shell and lobster Mac and Cheese (4 kinds of cheese). Short 15 minute walk back along the water to the marina.

Good place for a visit!

Very Friendly Marina, 2014-05-01
Captain: , Saint Augustine, FL (489)

All cruisers have a few marinas they look forward to visiting not because they need shelter but because they are greeted like old friends, even the first time. This is one of them.

The reviews below cover it well but the fellow who says he will try 79 th Street next is in for a shock. He%u2019s going to wish he was back here:)

Steve is off on a run to pick up ice for me since it is early in the season and his cooler wasn%u2019t stocked yet. He just told me that all floats are to have new decking installed this season. I%u2019ve seldom encountered better service in the past 25,000 plus miles.

ok stop for a run to Sandy Hook, 2014-01-22
Captain: , Shelburne, VT (120)

This was an OK stop. We walked in town where there were nice small shops and bread shop. Staff was hard to find on the docks in late September bathrooms etc were a bit worn. Docks were full of bird poop. A bit over priced for the quality of the docks and services. Most of the slips appeared to be dockaminiums? We will try 79th St basin on our next trip through here.

Captain: , Jersey City (506)

Stayed overnight up from Jersey City. We had come up last Fall to visit Blaze and liked the trip so much and the marina facility that we came back this year just to visit. The dockmaster, Steve, was very helpful as always. Too bad the goumet deli closed their doors.

Terrific location, but the deli is closed :-(, 2013-09-29

We've always liked this spot, and it still has a greta liquor store, two pharmacies, pizza, propane, but we really came for the deli. Some kind of tax trouble and it is closed.

Found Half Moon Bay Marina a Great Place, 2013-07-12
Captain: , Monticello, IN (140)

Stayed at Half Moon Bay Marina on our trip down the Hudson early July, and found it to be great place. Very nice facilities and several places to eat within walking distance. The marina manager went out of his way to help us with everything.

Nice area with easy acess to NYC..., 2013-07-06
Captain: , North Carolina (344)

Ok Marina %u2013 but if you read their website first, you will think you have arrived in the wrong place. The marina is definitely showing its age and amenities are lacking.

The good thing about this marina is its location and accesibilty to NYC without staying downtown. Train station is nearby. Taxi's run from marina to laundromat, grocery store and train station for around $7 each way. There are nice walking trails.

Steve, the dockmaster, is very nice and pleasant to the customers but he is very disorganized and needs to put his telephone away while he is dealing with his customers. What he doesn't seem to realize is that if he took care of each customer as they arrived, he would spend much less time. Instead, he goes from boat to boat apoligizing about how busy he is and hasn't had the time to do any paperwork.

We spent nine days there and weren't able to get a price on our dockage until the day we left. Steve was fair on the pricing but knowing the pricing in advance is the way to do business. We don't stay at a hotel without knowing what we are paying each night and folks shouldn't have to wonder what their marina bill will be.

All-in-all, it wasn't a bad stay. As mentioned in other reviews, boats rock quite a bit, often with no apparent reason.

Great Walking Trails, 2013-07-03
Captain: , Beaufort, S.C. (640)

Half Moon Bay is in a wonderful location! There is easy access to the train and Enterprise is a short walk away (no courtesy car available). Walking/biking trails pass along the front of the marina and wind around to parks in both directions. The Dockmaster makes a real effort to help boaters. There is a pump out, but it was broken during our 10-day stay(in early June). Bathrooms are clean, but basic. No laundry is available onsite. There was significant wind for several days causing the docks to rock quite a bit. Rates at this marina vary with the number of days you stay and we were unable to get a firm quote until the day we left, which was a concern for us. In the end we felt the rate was fair, but we would have liked to have this information in advance. We did like the marina, though, and would stay here in the future.

Enjoyed Croton, 2013-06-29
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (161)

We stayed here for three nights earlier this week. Steve, the dock master, was accommodating and interested in making our stay enjoyable. We stayed on the Doggy Dock. Water had been repaired and was usable. Some rocking but at high tide, the breakwater along the dock seemed to do its job. Good areas for dog walking. Dock carts were available for transporting groceries from the parking lot. Easy walk into Croton where there are several restaurants that we enjoyed. Enterprise Car Rental is minutes away from the Marina. Overall, an enjoyable experience.

Captain: , Freeport, ME (608)

We stopped here after running the East River from Port Washington. If the current is with you in the East River, be prepared for a long day - it will be against you coming north on the river.

Steve was quite helpful, though a bit harried. The water was not working on the "dog dock". The docks are starting to come apart in places, and nails stick out toward the boat and up out of the decking - wear heavy shoes if you don't watch very carefully where you walk. Not quite what I expected.

Got here at supper time, and lefrt early, so didn't see much of the area.

Long Day, but Great Support at Half Moon Bay, 2013-06-23
Captain: , Chattanooga, TN (554)

We'd traveled north up the Hudson River against the currect for some 60 miles. We called Marina Manager Steve to be sure he had space for us, then later called to let him know our progress (slow). He was more than willing to wait for us no matter what time we arrived. Fortunately, the tide turned in our favor, and we reached the marina at 6.

It's in a beautiful harbor. Showers and baths are nice. Let him know if you have a dog aboard, and Steve will dock you close to the farthest dock, close to the dog walking area. We didn't and needed to carry our 10-lb. dog past the no-dog condos. Ten pounds was no problem, but a Lab might be tougher.

We had to leave early the next morning and didn't do justice to this area with all it had to offer.

Good stop after New York City, 2013-06-21
Captain: , Venice, Fl. (949)

We stayed here for 10 days waiting for the Erie Canal to open. Steve the dockmaster was most helpful and went out of his way to make sure we were happy. The bathrooms are clean, but there is only one shower. The setting for the marina is beautiful and it is a nice walk to restaurants, a gourmet market (which we loved), CVS, and liquor store. We took the train in to New York City for the day, getting a taxi for $10.00 each way to the train station. Enterprise is a short walk, or they will pick you up. We rented a car for two days and toured the area...much to see. Due to weather and high currents this marina can get a little rocky. All in all we enjoyed our stay.

Half Moon Bay Marina Review, 2013-06-11
Captain: , Navarre, FL (40)

If you're doing the Great Loop and want to avoid the down-sides associated with New York City marinas (insane slip fees and constant wakes), go 34 miles up the Hudson to Half Moon Bay Marina. Scenic beauty, floating docks, no ferry wakes, an easy 50 minute train ride to Grand Central Station, a short day trip to West Point and Hyde Park. The dockmaster bends over backward to ensure your needs are met.

Great stop, 2013-06-10
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

This is an update to our stop at Half Moon Bay from two years ago. We spent 10 days here while waiting to do a crew change. Just like all the reviews, Steve the Dockmaster makes a big difference in this marina. He will try to do anything to help make your stay better. We used a rental car to tour the local visitor sites, which was very easy to do. We also took the train into NYC twice, to see the city and pick up our grandkids. It is all very easy to do from this marina. Steve is also very competitive with his dockage rates, and willing to give discounts for longer stays.

My only complaints would be that the docks are showing their age, and you should never go barefoot. To many boards that are splintering. Plus the bathrooms badly need an upgrade. They were clean, but...
Overall, this is a good stop as you make your way up or down the Hudson, and want to see NYC. Much more economical than staying anywhere in the city.

We stopped on our way north from NYC. Still expensive at $3.00/ft. but that is the going rate. Steve the Dockmaster goes above and beyond to help you in any way. Docks are old but workable. Banking, grocery, pharmacy, post office, liquor store were all a 15 min. walk up and very convienent. Steve picked us up at the store to bring us back to the marina. Could not ask for more. We will stop here again on our way up the Hudson.

We did it wrong..., 2013-06-09
Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

We pulled into Half Moon Bay Marina only able to stay one night due to a "schedule." This really is a place you should stay at for a few days or a week. The cove is very beautiful surrounded by hills, green and lush. I would have loved to take down the kayaks and explore. There are parks on either side and a lovely walking/running trail that we took the dog down. There is a good pizza/Italian restaurant with a gourmet market nearby. The market is wonderful and reasonably priced with a combination of staples and unusual items plus the prettiest fresh produce section I've seen in a while.

There's a train nearby that can take you right into New York City. Or you can go to West Point, the American Culinary Institute, and more. The other boaters we spoke to were staying on to take it all in. We were sorry to have to leave the next morning. But we will be back and this time we'll stay a spell. Thank you Steve for making our short stay still wonderful.

Half Moon Bay-great service, 2013-05-28
Captain: , Marinette, Wi (14)

We were planning to anchor out nearby but were met with such friendliness, we decided to stay at the marina instead. The dock master helped us dock, provided maps and info about surrounding, offered to drive us to laundromat.
Great rates, nice facilities - wifi, showers, pump outs. Gourmet grocery store nearby and a nice Shop Rite within half a mile. Taxi back to marina was only $7. After a disappointing experience in New York, it was a great to stop here. Will take train in to New York tomorrow for $20 round trip. It cost $18.00 from the anchorage we were at and we had to transfer 3 times.

Very Helpful, nice accomidations, 2013-05-24
Captain: , East Greenwich RI (40)

We stopped here to change dead batteries on our new old boat. Steve was very helpful in getting us to where we needed to go and he even took care of disposal of the old batteries for us. He gave us the AC discount and was great to deal with and this is on top of his dealing with a little new member to his family (congrat's). The marina had plenty of depth for our 7.2ft draft, was protected and easy to egres. It also has nice accomadations as far as bathrooms, showers, etc. Had a pump out, but no diesel. It was well worth the price and we'd stay again.

Captain: , Seattle, Wa (111)

As other have said it is a great place to stay for either a good alternative to staying in NYC to visit because of the commuter train service or a good place to recoup after a crazy stay in the city. During our stay the dock manager was adding loaner bikes so guest could take some time and explore the local trails or just expand beyond the already great local shops. Nice customer service from my view. If you have a Pet ask Steve for the Doggie dock. It is not only more convenient to the walking trails but also the showers, clubhouse and sauna

Overpriced, 2013-03-21
Captain: , Montreal (254)

Docked here for two weeks during the summer of 2012. Was originally quoted one weekly rate, but ended up having to pay over double because the stay "started late and went ino a second month". The manager used my inflexible sitaution against me, and did not fulfil his promise (upon the original booking) that the rate was the best in the area and did not have any hidden extras. When I arrived, late at night, I was told of the higher rate...
Pets were NOT welcome (my large dog was supposed to be carted from the dock to the car park!), and restaurants and shops are a considerable walk from the marina.
Clean, etc., but overpriced. How can somewhere in upstate New York, cost almost a third more than NYC?

Most consciencious and helpful staff so far, 2013-03-17
Captain: , North Palm Beach Marina, FL (43)

I can't say enough nice things about the dockmaster / manager Steve Plotkin here. From sending 3 very capable dockhands out to assist in tying us up during a very rough thunderstorm, to driving us to a local gourmet supermarket ( zeytinia gourmet) , Steve knows how to keep 'em coming back with smiling dock service. Very nice town with a plethora of varied restaurants. We ended up staying for 5 nights. Visited Ground Zero via train there and also drove an Enterprise car up to West Pt and the Culinary Institute. Got nervous that a storm would make the marina swell when we were approaching, but the sea wall is outstanding at attenuation. Highly recommend to anyone thinking of staying for a week or more. Plenty of places to eat and visit.

One of the few marinas in area with MLW of 9 feet, 2013-02-01
Captain: , Chelsea Piers (40)

This is one of the few marinas in the area with enough water. We found between 8-9 feet MLW The manager, Steve Plotkin, makes this place a very worthwhile stop. There were a lot of things to do with a walking/biking trail, state park, and a nearby train station. We've been to the marina a few times over the years and have always found this marina to be well run, extremely professional, and most of all helpful. Would recommend highly to others traveling the Hudson.

Good, but over rated, 2013-01-31
Captain: , Gloucester, MA (807)

Not a bad place, but over rated and over hyped by owners. They do NOT have fuel. A place on the other side of the hudson does, but not them. Sitting next to a rocket scientist doesn't make me one.

Discounts are hyped, but they neglect to mention that they don't apply on holiday weekends. Our stay ended up being extremely expensive and not commenserate with the facility.

Well meaning and enthusiastic owner, but frantic adn very disorganized. He spent more time appologizing and grovelling that getting things done.

Excellent place to stop, 2012-11-06
Captain: , Roseville MN (398)

Stayed here several days in early September. Excellent. would stay here again. reasonable rates, 35 minute walk to Amtrak then 50 minute express train into NY City - much less expensive than docking in the city area. The harbormaster, Steve Plotkin, is the best! Provided help in docking, local information, offered local car rides, and an all-around good guy. The marina is a little exposed to the Hudson River, but well protected. Steve guided us in during a storm and tornado watch. Love the place!

Service with a smile, 2012-10-08
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

OK, the docks need a little TLC, and you have to carry your dog across the precious condo owners land -- but Steve! Now there's a dock manager who takes service to a new level. This guy will make sure you're happy with your slip, ensure you know wherer to eat, where to shower, and basically won't be happy unless he knows you are. Very impressive given that what stands marinas apart is mostly the service you receive. We chose this on a lark as they had been generous to be an ActiveCaptain sponsor -- and we're glad we did.

A great Place to stay if you like to explore NYC, 2012-09-25
Captain: , Bear DE (694)

This is a well run Marina by Steve. We stayed here for 5 days. (paid for 4 days and got another day for free). Steve is trying to please everyone. It's not as well protected from the waves - but most Marinas on the Hudson River have the same problem. The Train station is only a 20 minute walk and the Express train to NYC is only about 50 minutes. If you stay here - try the Umani Cafe for Lunch or Dinner. There is also a shuttle from the marina (Mon - Fri only) to the Train Station. The Marina is well secured and you can leave your Vessel here in a safe and secured location. Will stay here any time again!

Great stop, 2012-09-11
Captain: , Marathon, FL (1264)

Steve was very helpful, couldn't do enough for us. Very convenient stop to or from NYC. About 20 miles from West Point. Breakwater stopped most of the wave action from a very strong cold front that went through while we were here. Great walking area for dogs. Zeytinia's Market was wonderful, as was the Colonial Diner. Credit cards NOT accepted.

Best of lower Hudson, 2012-09-05

Good stop with train access, 2012-09-03
Captain: , Michigan City (349)

We stayed here on 8/7/12. We called ahead to make reservations because of the discounts being offered by mentioning Active Captain. He did not honor the discounts that were listed but continued to tell us he would take care of us. He was very helpful and very freindly and did give us a discount from his normal rates, but claimed the offer on Active Captain was an error. The marina was very nice and, for us, it was convenient to the commuter trains that we took into New York to tour the city without paying the higher slip and mooring fees in the city.

Best Sunset on the Hudson, 2012-08-30
Captain: , Sackets Harbor (10)

We telephoned ahead to be greeted by a friendly voice to provide us with the best sunset on the hudson! Steve was convincing with his expertise of the area and what the surroundings had to offer.
We are on a family journey from upstate New York to New Jersey and Steve was a welcoming site after all day on the Hudson!
He greeted us at the chosen dock and took us for a tour of the facilities which are all security coded and well lit for safety.
We were also given a map of the area and local resturants, taxis, rental cars and a gourmet to go grocery.
The view is beautufully landscaped by townhomes and condos that reflect on the water in the moonlight.
This marina is definitely a good stop for all and Steve was wonderful to work with and attended to us right away to make our stay as comfortable as home!

Excellent Stop, 2012-08-26
Captain: , Port Colborne, On, Canada (70)

The marina is in close proximity to the train station that allowed us access to NYC. As well there is a great gourmet deli in town that can't be missed.
The marina itself is clean and quiet with a good view and great sunsets.

Nice marina--not much town, 2012-08-25
Captain: , Chester, CT (60)

Sheltered spot, beautiful sunsets, easy dinghy access to a state park beach. Owner/manager/dockmaster, Steve is high-energy, sincere, enthusiastic and more than helpful. Easy walk into town, but unfortunately the "town" is basically two strip malls (where you can find a variety of food). Still, a relaxing place to stop.

Captain: , franklin lakes , illinois (30)

We have just stayed over at Half Moon Bay again for our 4th time.
We had been there in the past, and they have recently re-built almost all of their docks. They have done a lot of great renovations on the docks. In the past there were a few wobbly finger slips, but it seems to be pretty much perfect now !
The scenery here is unparalleled and the array of places to eat are staggering. Not a bad walk ( 4/10 mile) to Zeytinia Gourmet Grocery/Marketplace which is a must visit. Ocean House for seafood is awesome too. Got a very high Zagat rating. Thanks a million to staff there. You guys are terrific. Great high speed wi-fi. Saved us a lot of hassles. If you want to visit New York City, there's a large train station that's within a short walk or taxis are readily available. Bring bicycles here. There are nice paths to ride them in the park or on new bike path.

Fact or fiction, 2012-07-16
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (445)

Just stayed at Half Moon bay for two nights. The dockmaster is the owners son. He tries hard to makle everything work, some say too hard. Wanted to report my thoughts.

If you have a pet request north dock. Otherwise you must carry the pet or place them in a dock cart for a 50 yard journey to the pet area, condo dispute.

No cable on North dock don't know about other docks.

Power- marginal on north dock, less than 200 volts so AC shut down after 3 minutes. Another boater ran generator all night to keep cool.

Marina charge- I paid $3 per foot as friendly looper rate, discounted from $4.50, what has he been smoking.

Wake wall- OK but not calm by any means.

did not use rest rooms but a good hike.

Nearby stores etc are a hike on busy streets, I rented a car from enterprise which is close. I usually bicycle whcih I would not do here. The deli they mention is worth the visit.

Likeable guy but he is overselling this place.

Internet very margiinal also. I used verizon air card instead.

This is a $2 per foot marina. He did not charge me for power as I coiuld not run AC. What a guy.

Worked very hard to assist us!, 2012-07-10
Captain: , Saugatuck, MI (144)

The dockmaster of this marina was a very nice man. He worked diligently to accommodate us the days leading up to the 4th of July. We were on a tight schedule, and needed transient dockage for a single night. The marina was packed for the holiday week, but the dockmaster promised us a spot. When our plans fell apart, we were still treated with respect and kindness. This is a lovely marina, with particularly hard working staff. I would recommend this spot without hesitation.

Good Points, Not So Good Points, But Mostly a Good Experience., 2012-06-25
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

I read through the other reviews and can see that there are swings of taste with everyone. My review is generally positive with some reservations.
Pluses -
Steve, the docmaster is terrific and obviously wants to make staying here a good experience. Keep up the good work! (I know you read these.)
The floating docks are in terrific condition and we and other transients were at the south end of the furthest docks which was very convenient and easy to get in and out of.
Electrical is good.
Pump out is on the outside of the north end and works adequately. (Steve, the nipple is cracked and needs to be replaced. Also the shape of the connectors at the handle, as they are shaped like an arch make it a tad difficult to pump out through a tank opening that is flush on a deck. The deck gets in the way of the valve handle. Should be a 90 degree elbow.
Bathrooms and showers are fine.
The grounds are lovely. Hudson River valley is drop-dead beautiful.
I understand that trains and buses to NYC are not too far away.
Depths are good everywhere. In, out and around the marina.

Negatives -
Grocery store is nearby but is least for us.
The Croton-on-Hudson town center is NOT near by and is too far to walk to. (a local cab company is available and not too expensive.)
No laundry on premises, thus the need for a cab to get to the town center where there is one.
There is not a marine supply store anywhere in the area. We couldn't even find an auto parts store anywhere.
There is a substantial sea wall around the marina of the board-space-board variety, like a snow fence. We were surprised how much wake and waves made it into the docks. This is a judgement opinion on our part.
Price - on the high side. (Steve, Remember the advice I gave you. Implement it.)

BUT our overall experience was positive and I would recommend any transient that wants a good facility to stop at for a night or two. Half Moon is more than up to the requirements.

Expected More but adaquate stop, 2012-06-22
Captain: , Dataw Island, SC (290)

From all the advertising I read, I was disappointed in staying at what is billed as the finest marina on the Hudson... it is not. The only high rating is for the dockmaster who was very/too helpful. Nothing really close by, rocking and rolling from wakes, current and the docks move considerably. There are not showers but a shower and a restroom - 1 each for male/female and they are a trek. No bargin for the price but it's the east coast as I was told by another boater.

I don't know, 2012-06-17
Captain: , Savannah (128)

Facility is very well located. Steve, the Dockmaster, tries very (too) hard to make sure everything is perfect. Got us hooked up with oil for an oil change went well. The showers are above average but not spectacular. The power is marginal. The pumpout is poorly piped and dificult to operate. The surrounding area is difficult to access even though there are some good restaurants and other ammenities. The marina is a dockominium so you don't know who really owns the slip. This would bother me if there were a problem. I was not thrilled here.

Beautiful Marina in a gorgeous location, 2012-06-04
Captain: , LeClaire, Iowa (449)

This marina is nestled in a picturesque part of the Hudson River Valley and is adjacent to beautiful high-end condominiums. It features well-maintained, sturdy docks and up-dated showers with lots of privacy. Steve, the manager/owner is very helpful and will offer you a lift if you don't feel like walking. A grocery store, liquor store, pharmacy, and rental car agency are all within an easy walk (1/3 mile). Laundromat is further (3/4 mile). No fuel available but Steve has arranged a discount with a nearby supplier. This is a lovely, secure stop with easy access via train to NYC (train station about 1 mile walk). Let Steve know if you have a dog so that you can be on the pet-friendly dock.

We spent 4 days at HMB and enjoyed the stay. Steve the harbormaster will do anything to ensure your stay is perfect. Within easy driving distance are fantastic stores, malls , restaurants and picturesque towns. We'll stop here again on our way back north. We had two heavy squalls during our stay proving that the protective wall works well even though we were right beside it.

Half Moon Bay Marina is a must visit stop, 2012-05-30
Captain: , Kettle Cove (30)

By far the most helpful management at this marina. The boaters there are very friendly as well. Outside of the marina entrance was a delightful farmers market going on. There are 3 huge liquor stores within a 1 to 2 block walk from the boat. Zeytinia Gourmet Marketplace has an overwhelming amount of provisions too. Dockmaster even gave us a 10% discount card for that grocery store, along with a 2 page list full of restaurants to choose from ( all next door- easy 5min. walk) Croton Colonial Diner is excellent too, complete with full bar. Friends of ours have raved about the highly Zagat rated Ocean House right there - for seafood, as well as the Memphis Mae's BBQ restaurant next door. We found it very easy to catch a train into NYC from the marina also. What a scenic, calming train ride, right along the banks of the Hudson. ( 40 min train ride to NYC ) I believe the trains run every 25 mins or so in both directions. I highly recommend Half Moon to everyone. Docks were recently upgraded and it was a pleasure to not have to worry about anything

Not What We Expected, 2012-05-28
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

Stopped here 5/26/12 but did not stay. The marina was rolly when we were there. Docks are okay but old. Does not take credit cards. Marina advertises reduced rates for boats on great loop, They said their regular rate was $4.50/ft and their reduced rate was $3/ft. We doubt many people pay the $4.50/ft so the reduced rate of $3/ft did not seem so reduced.

Captain: , Guntersville, AL (451)

Steve Plotkin is a great Dockmaster and very helpful. The marina is protected behind a sea wall and the infrastructure is good. We did have a problem with low voltage. Max voltage on the 50 amp service was 208 vac. This dropped to about 203 vac when a load was applied. Steve and I checked the voltage at several slips and they all seemed the same. Steve said he was going to get this condition corrected. We did not find the train station to be within walking distance but there is an early morning shuttle from Half Moon Bay Marina by the flag pole, comes a little before 8 AM. First pickup in the afternoon from the train station is 5:45 PM.

Convienient and friendly., 2012-05-13

Spent one night here on the way up the Hudson. Great staff, and an easy walk into town. Try the Ocean House Restaurant.

Very positive staff, 2011-12-21

Great dockmaster,
protected dockage, clean marina. shopping available.

I would stay here again over tarry town, and docks are nice, they have a huge wall to protect the marina from waves. Well maintained.

Great Stop On the Hudson, 2011-12-20
Captain: , Denton, TX (435)

Got caught on the Hudson during the big October snow storm. Had stopped further south but since all electric power in the region had been knocked out we needed to run our gentset. At the first stop we were sitting in mud at low tide so could not have heat. Moved to at Half Moon Bay Marina. The wind was howling and the docks rocking but Steve the Dock Master was there to help us in. Pleanty of depth to run the genset.
Agree with other comments about the gourmet grocery even using a flashlight to shop!.

Steve took us to the train station and we had a great visit into the city.

There are no markers heading into the marina but chart depth is there. If you have a dog be sure to advise Steve in advance so he can put you in a slip with easy access so you don't have to go thru condo property to walk it. Condo does not allow dogs on their property.

Overall a great stop. We highly recommend it.

The Best on the Hudson, 2011-10-13
Captain: , St Augustine (413)

Manager Steve Plotkin was great in assisting us to the slip and providing information about the area. Within walking distance is a gourmet grocery store, eating, laundry, train station, car rental, much more. Very reasonable dockage rates.

Deep water and Amazingly friendly!, 2011-09-26
Captain: , Mansfield, Ohio (10)

The manager, Steve Plotkin, makes this deep water oasis a very worthwhile stop.
The staff gave us a discount shopping card, offered to drive us to anyplace we wanted to go (within reason) and checked in on us to see what they could do for us.
The marina is extremely well protected and the facilities are clean and well maintained. There were a lot of things to do with a walking/biking trail, state park, and nearby train station ( next door) We felt at home here!

Half Moon Bay Marina, 2011-09-24
Captain: , Lake in The Hills, Illinois (542)

This is by far the friendliest marina we have encountered on the Hudson River. Steve, the dockmaster, gave us detailed instructions on how to get to the marina. He met us on the dock and assisted us with securing our sailboat. Although the charts show shallow water , Steve assured us there was enough depth and he was correct. perfect stop if you want to visit Manhattan.

Captain: , Victoria (60)

Just after Tropical Storm Irene went thru New York state we spent 1 night at Half Moon Bay Marina. We called ahead for a reservation and were told to come on in. Upon arrival we were met at the dock and assisted in tying our 45' sailboat securely. We were shown around the marina and were given a map of what was available nearby. Steve was great in directing us to shops and restaurants.

Nice place to stay and the people are friendly, 2011-08-23
Captain: , Gulf Shores Alabama (748)

I've never felt as "wanted" as I did arriving at Half Moon Bay Marina. When I called the Dockmaster to talk about rates, availability and directions, he was very helpful. He worked with us on the rate by helping us find a discount that we qualified for, ie: BoatUS. As we approached the marina from the river channel, he actually came out to meet us in a seadoo and guided us in to the right marina. It was like one of the "seashell" guys that come up to your boat in the Virgin Islands, only this is the dockmaster directing you to his docks. Nice facilities, pleasant town with great restaurants, and for those looking to go to NYC, better to leave your boat there and take the 25 minute train in and not hassel with the NYC marinas, waves and potential theft.

They have block ice.

Not what I pictured, 2011-08-03
Captain: , New Haven Ct (10)

Even before the storm knocked out the electric I had low voltage, I had to use my generator
Then the next morning there was a lot of boat fixing going on.
There was also a lot of bird c*&p on the docks. The internet was
spottie at best and the cable tv was very basic.
The marina was very picturesque with the well kept condos as a backdrop. The pool was very nice looking, but visitors were not welcome.
Over all I think I'd try another marina.

Great wide slips, 2011-07-03
Captain: , Mystic, CT (382)

Our slip had more than enough room for our 14' beam. Dockmaster, Steve, goes out of his way to do whatever he can to make your stay pleasant. Yes, dogs are an issue due to the regulations of the adjoining condos, however, small dogs can be carried approx. 100-120 yards and then they are free to walk on a leash. There is a dock outside the gated area; I'm sure if advance notice is given you could request to be placed there and dog walking would not be an issue. Clean restrooms and an exercise room available for use.

Croton Marina, 2011-07-02
Captain: , Bay City, Mi (30)

Skip this one, the slip was to narrow for our 13 1/2" foot beam. we finally got tied up, the owner informed us that our dogs would have to stay on the dock, then he said well if you wheel him in a cart across the lawn of the condo project they could go to the bathroom. Then as we went to pay we were informed no charge cards. We felt the whole thing was a negotiation!

Good stop over, 2011-06-28
Captain: , Warsaw, Ky (875)

Good overnight. Slips are 16 feet wide. Docks are wooden and floating.

Staff are very helpful getting into slip. Can be a bit tight if you are 50 feet or more.

Super boat friendly!, 2011-06-18
Captain: , Westport,Ma (710)

very nice marina, great showers, super boat friendly , easy walking distance to great resturants, CVS, food shop ping ice cream store etc. If you have bikes onboard there is an excellent walking/bike trail along the water to a park / beach. Walk to the train station or rent a car and go into NYC a 40 min train ride $12 each way. Visit Westpoint or Culinary Inst. of America from here. Its location is excellent for visiting the area sights.
Highly recommended!

Excellent transient stop, 2011-05-28
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Stayed 3 nights. Train to NYC 20 min walk ($7 cab). Beautiful condo environment. Extensive food selection at market (Zeytinia, 12 min walk). Capriccio II (authentic Italian, 12 min walk) serves incredible food; huge portions about $10. Steve, dockmaster, is very helpful in orienting new comers to the area.

Bike/jog nature path runs by marina. CVS, hardware, liquor store, & nail salons within 15 min walk. Four stars given since no pool, no onsite laundry, & no credit cards accepted.

Loved the Deep Water!, 2011-04-23
Captain: , Marthas Vineyard (10)

We stayed at HMB after staying at several marinas on our trip. We liked the deep water here, even at low tide. We also enjoyed the ambience of being set against a condominium complex and not a working boat yard.

HMB was extremely well-maintained and the staff was very welcoming. The Dockmaster gave us a map of the town with a list of places to eat. We found that most of the places he suggested were within an easy walking distance.

Great facility, but one caution, 2011-01-03
Captain: , Utica, Ohio (245)

This facility appears to be well-maintained and is in a great location. Restroom/showers are first class but small - one head and one shower. Within walking distance is a hardware, restaurants and an upscale grocery ($$$). A chain grocery ($) is a short cab ride away. The manager, Steve, was very accomodating and friendly. The parking area has a 24 hour guard and access to the docks is locked.
The only drawback is exposure to wind and current, which can be severe. If you can get an inside slip do it, the outside (west) slips are extremely rolly.
The pumpout is located outside the break wall and is very close to shore/shallows/rocks, so if you're in a sailboat choose a calm day to attempt it.

Half Moon Bay on the Hudson, 2010-09-26
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (745)

We stayed here for the first time this August. Steve, the dockmaster, is quite accomodating. He really wants you to stay here. The restrooms are very clean. The floating piers are sound but, they have a duck stuff problem. Steve did clean them off for us. If you prefer marinas to anchoring out this is a nice place. We will stay here again.

Very nice marina, 2010-09-22
Captain: , Morehead City (160)

This is actually a dockominium and Steve, the manager, keeps track of the open slips. While the docks are getting old this didn't present a problem and the rest of the facilities are fine. Steve helped us with our lines then took us to the store, which was a big help. We only stayed one night but it was nice to be in a place that had a type of breakwater so we didn't roll all night.

Enjoyable Stay, 2010-09-12
Captain: , Newport Yacht Club (96)

We initially wanted to stay only 1 night but after settling in we stayed 2 nights. No credit card machine on site, so needed to go the nearby ATM.
Most places are within walking distance and Steve, the manager, provided us with a nice little map, phone numbers and all the info we needed to get around town. Really good restaurants just a $7 taxi ride and they will pick you up right at the marina entrance.
Facilities were very clean and the area is great for a hike. We wish we had some bikes with us as there are a ton of trails to follow along the Hudson.
Will definitely stay here again.

everything is not close, 2010-09-07
Captain: , p-town,ma (10)

i've stayed at better, i've stayed at worst.
everything is a long walk and dogs are welcome but with many rules.
credit card machine is still broken, steve said it will be working soon.

It's negotiable., 2010-09-06
Captain: , Elizabeth City, NC (241)

The slip pricing is all over the place with no set structure that is adhered to. Looper fees set by half moon are not honored.Dogs are welcome as long as you will carry or roll them through the adjoining community. 200 volt is delivered on 50 amp service. Credit cards are not accepted (ongoing problems with machine). Wave wall is not totally or effectively attenuating waves with a westerly wind.

OK Stop Still close to NYC, 2010-06-24
Captain: , Wicomico Creek, MD (494)

In spite of a breakwater barrier, there is still plenty of rolling wave action. The dog walking issue is still there and the wooden docks are starting to show their age. WiFI and cable included. Dockmaster does a good job the restaurants are close and you can get to the city via train. An easy run up from NYC.

Half Moon Bay Marina, 2009-09-27
Captain: , Patterson, La (1441)

This is a good stop to go into the city, the train station is not as close by as Tarrytown Marina but way better and no bird do do when we were there in Sept 09.
The floating finger piers are not very stable but ok.
NOT pet freindly at all. Dogs are not allowed on the sidewalks nor grass you must CARRY them to the area allowed for them. Big dogs must be pushed in a dock cart.
Note that this is a condo complex and a marina second. What they do is rent slips of owners who are absent.
With BOAT US discount it comes close to Tarrytown rates but as I said way better. A bit of a walk to restaurants and the like.
Good place to have freinds meet you.

Good Stay, 2009-09-22
Captain: , Collierville TN (977)

side ties available, good facilities.

Friendly Spot, 2009-09-08
Captain: , Treasure Island, FL (221)

We have stayed here a few times because it is close to relatives in the area. Price a bit stiff but Steve would hopefully work with a captain who plans on staying a while. A bit rolly, especially at high tide, but we were parallel to the seawall (and the waves); quiet at night, though. Took train into city and back; might be a longer hike than many would prefer to get to the train station, but cabs are readily available.

One of the nicest marinas on the river, 2009-07-24
Captain: , Brooklyn, NY (14)

I stayed here during a trip from Brooklyn to Waterford and back. The marina is easily accesible, and Steve provides easy to follow instructions for finding your slip. The facilities are spotless, with brand new bathrooms and showers. The marina is conveniently located near shops and restaurants. Steve, the dockmaster, is very helpful and friendly. I highly recommend Half Moon Bay Marina.

Not so great, 2009-07-14
Captain: , Sarasota Florida (80)

If you don't mind wading through bird droppings on the docks and endless excuses from the dockmaster this is the place for you. The wooden seawall is not closed in completely and any swells roll everyone in the marina.

Half Moon Bay Marina, 2009-07-08
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1090)

The manager, Steve Plotkin, makes this place a very worthwhile stop. He gave us his shopping discount card, offered to drive us to anyplace we wanted to go (within reason) and checked in on us to see what he could do for us. He seems to be a one man show and we really appreciated his assistance with everything. The marina is reasonably well protected and the facilities are clean and well maintained. There were a lot of things to do with a walking/biking trail, state park, and nearby train station. We felt at home here.

Transient friendly, 2009-05-29
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

We were traveling from NC with 3 other boats and were looking for fuel (they do not sell it). However, Steve who runs the place invited us to stay at a reduced price since they were not busy. He understands business and is very helpful. We were going to stay up river at a cheaper place, but decided to stay here for 3 days versus 2. A great decision. We wish more marinas understood things better like this place does. We have traveled up here before, and the NY experience for marinas is gennerally not good until we get further up the Hudson or on some Long Island places. This is a must stop, and the town is neat too. Enterprise car nearby.....

Beautiful in the fall, 2008-10-14

This marina is a great location to enjoy the fall colors and early Holiday shopping in NY. Dockmaster Steve is extremely helpful. Don't miss the gourmet food store.

A place to go, 2008-10-02

This marina is one of the best protected marina in the area with grocery and other stores at walking distance. The wave breaker protects from the West winds.
Steve, the manager made real extra efforts to ensure we had everything we needed.
