Reviews for Gulfport Municipal Marina
Not a great experience, 2017-07-15
Captain: , Deerfield beach (10)

Recently stayed here before and during TS Cindy. fuel service was down, electrical out for a week, and not much help from the dock office as far as info exchange goes. They missed out on several thouands of dollars in fuel purchase having a faulty pump system that was down all week, wifi too. Plus side, the docks are well built!

Management response:
For the same reason you were seeking safe harborage is the same reason we were having problems. Tropical Storm Cindy!! Her impact came on well ahead of landfall and caused the unanticipated and unexpected damages that you describe.

Because everything else in your review was created by Mother Nature, the only thing we might have been able to influence was your input about info exchange and I'd really appreciate more details on that experience if you'd like to share.

Next time in, give us another chance and we'll be happy to put you on our docks for a night free of charge.

Marina is fine but poor systems in place, 2017-07-09
Captain: , United States (3192)

We stopped here for fuel and considered staying to ride out Tropical Storm Cindy.

Everyone was helpful and friendly, but they could not take credit cards because their "system was down." Apparenyly it had been down for days. They will not take a check, even in these circumstances, so we had to pay cash for our fuel. To their credit, they obliged when we asked for a lift to the nearest ATM, the better part of a mile away.

C'mon, folks. This is the 2st century. You can't shut down your business because your POS goes down. There are *lots* of backup methods for taking credit cards (or validating checks), and there are even vendors who will put an ATM on your premise.

We would have had to pay cash for a slip, too, so we opted to continue to Biloxi.

A first-class marina, 2017-06-04
Captain: , Merritt Island, FL (556)

We stayed here May 20, and June 1-4, 2017. Easy approach to marina, fuel dock, and slips. Friendly and helpful staff. Easy and safe acccess to town and restaurants.

Well Earned 5 Stars, 2017-05-12
Captain: , Galveston Texas (315)

Gulfport Municipal Marina has everything you could want. Easy approach, deep water throughout the marina, clean bathhouse and 24hr onsite security. PLUS, easy walk to downtown with at least nine resturants, parks and supplys, slipside pumpouts for every slip, and friendly staff.

Can not think of a single negative.

Southern Hospitality at it's best...especially Larry!!!!, 2017-05-12
Captain: , Seabrook, Texas (10)

We pulled in at 0100 on a Monday morning , called the after hours number shown at the fuel dock and Larry came driving up in no more than five minutes. He got us our slip and then rushed down to Pier 4 to guide us in and helped tie us up. Then he came by when the sun came up to check on us. Great guy.
We had to get our alternator rebuilt so the office sent us over to Hammets in Biloxi. Their alternator tech was out of town so Brad the manager got it done. I adked Brad if he knew of anyone that could look at our depth reader. He seez sure, go around the corner and talk to Advanced Marine Electronics. We did and Mark came by the next day, even though he's busier than you know what, and spent a couple hours checking out the DSM.
Point of all this...these people are great.

Nice Marina, 2017-02-27
Captain: , Kemah Texas (389)

Nice marina. Spent 10 days here while waiting out a weather system and reprovisioning. Docks are fixed and tide is about 2 feet so set dock lines appropriately.

When coming into the harbor, tie up at the fuel dock immediately on your right. Go into the office there to obtain a transient slip assignment. Manned 24/7.

All docks have power and water. Pumpout available at each slip (contact marina office for help).

A Great Illusion, 2017-01-27
Captain: , Currently living aboard and cruising the Gulf Coast (260)

One of the prettiiest marinas I have seen. So ask yourself why is it barely 20% Occupied. Might it have something to do with docks to high? Or the harbor masters attitude? For boater vacationers - no monthly rate unless you stay 2 months and no live-aboards. So if you are transient and stay on boat more than 10 days, you are a live-aboard. cant do that - no live-aboards allowed. Pump-outs reach every slip. Great, so why low occupancy? The reason starts and ends at the top.

Management response:
Hey Capt Tony...

Just a few clarifications... We do allow full-time liveaboards and we're actually greater than 50% occupied. In comparison, literally every marina on the MS Gulf Coast is way under 100% occupied, the cause of which is multifaceted. Our transient boaters are always welcome to, and often do, stay longer than 10 days when paying the transient rate. We also offer discounts for longer transient stays.

It's possible you may have encountered some misleading information along the way and I'd be happy to discuss your concerns so together we can reach an amenable outcome. I'd also appreciate the opportunity to speak with you about declining occupancy levels, not only in our marina but in other marinas along our coast and throughout the United States. Please feel free to call me at 228-867-8721 or stop in at the office if you're in the area.

Wow! What a pleasant surprise, 2017-01-11
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (415)

After traveling the Arkansas and Mississippi Rivers we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this marina, especially for a city-run operation. We have had our 47' motor yacht here for about a week. They are within walking distance to several resturants and the downtown area. The staff were waiting for us at the fuel dock on our arrival and assisted with tying up at our assigned slip.

We highly recommend this marina for anyone transiting the Gulf!

Secure Harbor helpful staff, 2017-01-04
Captain: , Kenlake Marina on Kentucky Lake (232)

Docked our forty foot power boat here for two and a half months ending January 1, 2017. Friendly and helpful staff. Very nice facility close to the Half Shell restaurant (with their Big Red shrimp and grits). Would stay here again. Reasonable monthly rates. Tom Ray on Raydiance

excellent choice over Christmas, 2016-12-29
Captain: , Surfside, TX (30)

this marina is beautiful over the winter / holidays. They do play music fairly loudly until 10:30pm or later, but since we're only staying one night it wasn't that big of a deal.

The holiday display they have up is great.

Holiday Ready, 2016-11-17
Captain: , Gulfport (79)

Very family friendly and the park is setup unbeivably for Christmas. lights come on Friday after Thanksgiving

Nice facility in nice setting, 2016-08-07
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (1453)

Facility appears to be a rebuild or new build post Katrina; must have used a lot of our tax dollars to create this sturdy, well-designed marina and city park. We arrived at low tide and found it challenging to tie up and get off the boat onto fixed wood docks. Plenty of water for our 6' draft at low tide. Slip was generously sized and high tide next morning was much better. We walked into town for dinner - several choices and a pleasant walk through the park. Walked to the fuel dock to pay and then found a small beach area for the dog to get wet. Lots of grassy areas for the dog and city staff were all very dog friendly.

Sad to go..., 2016-05-12
Captain: , Clearwater Beach (10)

Great freindly staff and superb facilities. I would recommend this place to anyone! Awesome and gonna miss it!

Best fuel prices and great facilities and staff. , 2016-03-14
Captain: , Laramie (177)

Wonderful facilities and staff. Very pleasant location on a park. Bathroom and showers clean and secure. Security personnel on site at night. Best price for fuel since a commercial dock in S.C. Four years ago. ($1.55 tax included! 29 Feb 16 ) Only negatives: No loner vehicle and a long way to shopping. Airport is not far but no easy transportation to or from. With a loner car would have been five stars easily and we would have spent a couple months there.

What a great stopover., 2015-12-22
Captain: , Kemah, TX (202)

Being very cost conscious we pulled into the marina and were so pleasently suprised by the cleanliness and general relaxed nature of this new marina. We were very lucky also in the fact that they were having an annual light festival with live music and just a festive atmosphere. Robert was on duty when we came in and guided us to our slip, super wide fairways, and helped us tie up. Would recommend this to anyone transiting the area.

Modern dock, 2015-12-17
Captain: , Absarokee Mt (1228)

We came in heavy fog, a little jog over to starboard is required to enter the small boat harbor. Brand new marina rebuilt after Katrina.

Fixed piers, concrete pilings support with wood piling as tie ups. 50 amp Power pedestals center of slip on dock walkway. Fuel dock easy to get into, has high flow pump and med flow. Fuel was $1.57 on Dec 2015.

A very nice facility, 2015-11-09
Captain: , Ocean Spings Mississippi (215)

Stayed here two nights. Nicest showers/head I've ever encountered at a marina. Can't beat the slip fees. Staff was very helpful. Very clean. Workers constantly picking up trash. Explore Gulfport. You'll be glad you did! Congratulations to the folks in Gulfport on a wonderful facility.

Very nice stop, 2015-10-06
Captain: , Saint Petersburg, Fl (227)

Gulfport Marina is a very nice stop. Dockside 50/30amp power and water, depending on where your slip is the restroom and laundry may be a walk. We used the laundry .75 to wash and $1.00 to dry, perfect!

The fuel dock is open 24/7 with ice and snack stuff. The staff is great, very helpful and engaging.

Outside the marina there is not much close. Nearest grocery is 2+ miles away so we didn't get out and explore much more than the park and surroundings.

great stop along Mississippi sound, 2015-05-30
Captain: , Kitty Hawk, NC (290)

finally a Marina as advertised. wifi actually worked, and fast. laundry!!! big clean restrooms for marina use only! helpful knowledgable employees who actually participate in boating. very good sleep and recharge. just passing through, only thing was no grocery nearby for provisions.

New Modern Marina, 2015-05-20
Captain: , Cleveland, OH (344)

Built post Katrina which destroyed the old one. Many empty slips so there is always space. A little sterile for my taste.

No Regrets, Houston, 2015-04-18
Captain: , Houston (100)

Love this Marina! Clean, new, Nice, great people! Great fuel prices, close to good food!,,!

One of My Favorite Marinas, 2015-04-12
Captain: , Kemah, TX (306)

We are repeat customers for many reasons. First and foremost is the friendly, service oriented staff who go out of their way to make your stay a great experience.

We also like the fact they are full service: fuel dock with great prices, pump out at the dock and super clean restroom/shower/laundry facilities.

The marina has a couple of other added benifits. There are great local eateries that are within a short walking distance of the marina. And the marina is adjacent to a public beach.

Don't miss the chance to visit this marina.

Great Facility But, 2015-04-03
Captain: , Port Charlotte FL (221)

There are many positives about Gulfport Harbor. The facilities are very new. The marina is very well protected from waves. There is a very nice walking/jogging path nearby and there are plenty of restaurants and bars near the Hancock building across the street.

Here is why we will probably never go back. In the two days that we were there we didn't see any kind of security presence or a single marina employee, unless we went into the office.

Teenage boys were allowed to stand on the marina benches and tables screaming obscenities at each other and in general. This went on for two hours. And on consecutive days.

There is a train that passes by. It's off in the distance and most people probably won't notice it and there is large industrial port next door. Once again this might not bother most people.

Nice facilities but poor security. We'll pass by next time we are in the area.

Management response:
Thank you, Capt. Cooper, for taking the time to let us know of your experience. Because what you reported is surely contrary to our everyday mission, please rest assured that we will use your input as a training opportunity for the Marina Staff.

I hope that you'll give us a second chance at making your next dockage experience a pleasant one and will look forward to your return visit anytime your subsequent travels bring you again into our locale.

With kindest regards,

George Manemann

Excellent service, showers and free wifi. Best fuel prices anywhere.

Captain: , gulfport, MS (10)

This harbor is by far the most accomindating harbor in the south. This is truly a wold class facility with a staff that works hard to hold the title. I have been at this harbor for almost a year and love it. I am really impressed with the 24/7 costomer service, 24 hour fuel dock and the services that Gulfport has to offer. keep it up y'all..

Very nice facility, 2015-01-06
Captain: , Corpus Christi,Tx (1569)

Very well protected marina off the sound. Docks are fixed but in great shape. Didn't use bathroom facilities but based on the rest of the marina, they should be iin good shape. Good fuel prices and a short walk to town and restaurants.

Very Nice Facility, 2014-10-27
Captain: , Port Lavaca, TX (451)

Good fuel prices for the area, facilities are very well kept. Pump out at the dock where we were. Didn't get into town, so can't comment.

Good marina, 2014-09-06
Captain: , New Orleans (20)

Been in here 4 times over the last 2 years. Always been able to raise on 16, day or night. Super nice staff - Reid and the blond lady (forgotten her name, apologies) know their boat stuff. Several block walk to nice restaurants & pubs. Good fuel prices. Excellent heads/showers. $1.00 a foot.

Very nice facility, 2014-04-18
Captain: , Fort Worth, TX (935)

Fuel dock is 5 feet tall. great staff very helpful! Great fuel price. Reasonable slip fee. Too Too far to the restrooms!

Can't say enough about the very nice staff!

What a great stop on the Coast!, 2014-03-09
Captain: , Kemah, Texas (245)

Very clean, very friendly, very strong security (city police cruisers hourly patrol along the water front) and clean.
Fuel (gas) priced at $3.85, nearly $.70 cheaper/gallon than Pensacola.
Big Mike's Speakeasy cross the street is a fun and good food & drink spot.
Don't miss stopping here if you itinerary permits!

Best on the Gulf Coast, 2013-11-24
Captain: , Gulfport, Mississippi (20)

Came in as a transient from Marina Del Ray Madisonville (which we won't discuss) when they first opened. We never left two years later. Staff, Facility, Access and Other Tenants are AWESOME. Little story blew an impeller coming back from the islands with another boat who I was in VHF contact with. Gulfport Small Craft heard our convo and was waiting in their skiff at the mouth of the channel at 1:00AM yes AM. Two well appreciated harbor staff (one Hayden who was off the clock an hour earlier waited around to help). Thanks Guys

And bonus no bridges to deal with

HAS IT ALL, 2013-11-23
Captain: , Louisiana (264)

We have been here over a year and love it. we have a Trawler Sundeck and the prior height is perfect for us. great staff, showers, and even live bait and fishing supplies onsite at The Tackle Box. It is a great place to dink around, bicycle or go for a walk on the beach. Sunsets are spectacular, photographers are set up a lot of evenings here to catch them.

Great Marina! Nov 13, 2013, 2013-11-14
Captain: , Baton Rouge, LA (82)

we stayed for 3 nites. very friendly staff. The WiFi is up but it is Gulfport's free WiFi ... not a very strong signal, cannot download movies. Wonderful facilities ... showers, laundry.

Not Quite There, 2013-06-09
Captain: , Mandeville, La. (267)

We stayed twice over our cruise and found some bright spots and some problems. Laundry and bath facilities first rate, but you'd need a ladder to reach the dock at low tide. Night harbormaster was great, but afternoon one said she didn't respond to our VHF because she was unfamiliar with how to work the radio. We asked for docking assistance because the transient berth is in a crook (side tie), but no one showed up. You can't pay at the harbormaster's office. You have to hike out to the fuel dock, but we found no one there to take our money. Good restaurants and beaches nearby, but Gulfport needs to provide staff worthy of their facility.

Superior marina, 2013-06-08
Captain: , New Orleans (70)

We got caught in a storm off Ship Is. Went in to marina and surprised at how clean and new and complete the facilities were. Also walking distance from restaurants, downtown, coffee shops and buses servicing tourists all along the coastline highway. At $1/ft can't beat that! Only sorry no WiFi but said they are working on it. Were able to accommodate our Cat but fixed piers might be issue for some. All in all in the top tier of marinas.

Wonderful Southern Hospitality, 2013-04-24

Great facility staffed by helpful folks. Can't wait to go back!

Nice Gulf coast marina, 2013-03-13
Captain: , Houston, TX (553)

Very friendly staff, with excellent facilities: water, power, pump-out, showers and laundry. Fixed docks are a bit of a challenge at spring tides with 2 foot tidal range. Make sure you get a line around one of the piles between the slips to hold your boat away from the dock or you may find your safety stanchions trapped under the dock. Lots of good restaurants and bars within walking distance.

New and clean, 2013-02-26
Captain: , houston, tx (403)

Nice marina. The bathouse and laundry are first rate. The slips and fairways are open and wide. The only thing preventing this from being a 5 star marina is the fixed pier Vs. floating as others have mentioned. They are still completing all of the slips as of this writing. They installed two cleats on the dock for us at our slip after we pulled in. When heading north from the GIWW stay right and aim for the lighthouse.

Great Place, 2012-12-08
Captain: , Reedville, VA (689)

Stopped after leaving New Orleans. Much better than Point Cadet in Biloxi. The Half Shell Restaurant is just down the street. Marina open 24/7 with helpful staff and great fuel prices.

Short time here but very nice, 2012-11-18
Captain: , Athens, AL (641)

Got in late after long day from New Orleans. Really good food across the highway at Big Mike's. First class facilities from what we saw except we don't understand investing this kind of money for fixed docks. Our friends are here for a month and have a low-profile sailboat and there are days the wife cannot get off/on the boat because of the low tide. Great beach right here, nice laundry, helpful staff waiting for us at the dock upon arrival. Would like to stay longer and enjoy the beach and nice facilities but need to take advantage of good weather and finish up MS Sound and Mobile tomorrow

Gulfport Small Craft Marina, 2012-11-15
Captain: , Kettering, Ohio (250)

First Class Stop, fixed docks, all new, great facilities. Bus stop next to property. Can commute from bus station two blocks from marina to neighboring community. Easy in easy out, striking distance to New Orleans and Mobile Bay

Best price around. New facility, very friendly.

Good marina stop, 2012-09-22
Captain: , Houston, TX (114)

Excellent stop for fuel. Diesel was $3.80 per gal including tax. Hard to beat that price when I was shopping. Good help at the fuel dock.

Very nice facilities, 2012-07-20
Captain: , Kemah, Texas (170)

The City of Gulfport is really making this a nice facility! Everything is first class. Wish they had opted for floating rather than fixed docks. Bus service in the Gulfport-Biloxi area is fabulous.

Hit the Beach, 2012-05-26
Captain: , Chattanooga (327)

Facility is still in development. Stayed two days just to get in some beach time which is right next to the marina. George the Harbormaster is intent on making this stop good for transients. Even added cleats to one of the new slips for us. Make sure you check for them when docking as many slips are still being finished.
A lot of small details need attention but it is on the way to be a top stop. We will surely return if back this way.

Stayed at the Gulfport YC, 2012-02-26
Captain: , Nashville (547)

It if very difficult to pick up the bouys coming in at night because of all the background lights.

The YC's guest docks are sholed up on the approach end. But the facilities are very nice, once you get tied up.

New and empty, 2012-02-15
Captain: , Beaumont, TX (669)

Arrived after rough time in Mississippi sound . Met by marina staff , v ery helpful with tying up and getting electric up and running. NIght staff patroled and helpful in calling coast guard to check out sound conditions for leaving. Unfinished but working on showers, laundry etc. $1.00 per foot transient rate. good value for the money. Would stay here again

Beautiful docks, wonderful people, very friendly and helpful. Big Mikes Speakeasy is an excellent place to relax, have a drink and eat a good meal. Its located right across the street. Wonderful marina, 2012-01-06
Captain: , St Augustine, Fl (452)

This is a wonderful place to stay even with out shower, heads, and fuel. We gor here late afternoon (about 1600) after a long slow trip from Blind Riggets. Call on the cell and these guys were great. Being a single handled sailboat and with no knowledge of the area they tqlked me in and then even directed me to my bearth and assisted in mooring. The two lads were beyond help and were over joyed to assist.

I later found out that the 24 hour security is really great. as I saw them all hours walking the piers and evan patroling in a small motor boat. These Guys are not offically opened but their service was beyond the call. The Harbormaster waqs great and offered even more information of the surrounding area.

This place rates 5 stars but due to no heads/showers yet I gave them a four.

The new small craft harbor opened on July 25. Not all amenities are available but the slips are excellent. No fuel dock yet. On site harbor master 24/7.

Yes, I am biased!!, 2011-07-31
Captain: , Gulfport, MS (158)

As the Harbor Master for this fine facility, I am proud to say we are now open for business and now accepting boats into slips. Give me a call at 228-868-5881 and let's get your boat docked in what is perhaps the nicest marina on the northern Gulf Coast. Hope to hear from you soon! While our 319 slips are presently pick-of-the-litter, they are going at a good pace so the sooner the better is always a safe bet.
