Reviews for Grosse Pointe Yacht Club
Grand Ol Yacht Club, 2015-08-08
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (950)

We were there for just one night, tied up on the wall in front of the club and dined at their Binnacle Dining Room - a top notch experience. Great food and service, on par with a fine dining establishment. Facilities were clean - but the person at the front desk must have been new as she didn't even know where the men's showers were.

The marina layout is "complex", with a draw bridge, so suggest you visit their website and download their marina map diagram ahead of time.

5 Star destination, 3 star transient dock, 2015-07-31
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6484)

GPYC is a first class destination; dock hands there to help you in, took care of registration right at our boat. Several restaurants, from formal to casual. Very clean restrooms/showers with towells and soap. Fantastic pool & casual dining area / bar overlooking the harbor and lake. Really great place if you have kids along.

On the negative side, not a good stop for transients. The closest attraction is 1.5 miles (Edsel Ford home.) Restaurants, grocery & nautical supply stores are several miles further away. If you are put on the east wall docks, it's a long walk anywhere, especially if you have pets. The closest dog walking area is well in front of the club house.

!st Class All the Way, 2015-07-01
Captain: , St. Clair Shores (121)

Spent a weekend here as a guest. All facilities are fisrt class. They have everything. The only negative is that it is a bit pricey. But then you get what you pay for. Its like being in a vacation resort. Highly recommended.

We would give it 6 Stars if we could....., 2014-07-21
Captain: , Wilmington, De. (152)

Freindly, competent dock hands; welcoming club staff members; beautiful, active facilities; the best meal we have had on the Loop; and a safe, secure harbor alll added up to a great experience. If you have a yacht club affiliation, don't miss the chance to visit the GPYC.

Wonderful place, 2014-03-09
Captain: , ann arbor (120)

We are members of GPYC and can vouch for their impeccable service and facilities. They have 2 good restaurants, an outdoor gazebo bar, pool and excellent and professional staff. Sailing Lake St. Clair is easy and safe, just watch depth if you're a sailboat. We have a 54' saliboat with 6'3" draft and the marina easiy fits us. The entrance is easy, just make sure no one is coming out while you go on. There's often lots of traffic on the weekend. This is one of the permier locations on the Great Lakes and a perfect stop as one makes their way up to Northern michigan.

Wonderful Stop!, 2013-08-29
Captain: , Castine, Maine (2997)

This was a wonderful stop. The facility is charming, the staff is very attentive, it is a place that will make you feel a bit pampered. We had dinner at the restaurant one night and it was extremely good. There's also a more casual outdoor grill. The pool is beautiful. The grounds are nicely manicured with a lovely walk along the water that the canine crew enjoyed.

You need to have membership at another club or have a member invite you as it is a private club. If you are able to go to not miss it!

The finest yacht club we have visited on the Great Lakes, 2013-07-09
Captain: , Sturgeon Bay, WI (287)

I fully expected a very stodgy, affluent club. I could not be more mistaken. Alex is a very professional competent dockmaster with a very well trained, hard working staff. The members were all very gracious and engaging. From the very moment that we docked, members on either side of our slip invited us for cocktails and dinner, made suggestions for our continued voyage and even drove us to Mikes Marine ( a fantastic marine store with everything) and gave us a tour of Grosse Pointe pointing out the history of this grand village.

The club is truly a must see when you are in the area.

Fantastic Facility, 2013-02-06
Captain: , Lakeside Yacht Club (250)

Top notch facility. Helpful staff, amazing restaurant and pool. Private club so you need to be a memeber of ILYA or a club wiht reciprical privlleges. You may feel liek an outsider here. Nothing within walking distance but who needs to leave.

A taste of history, 2012-05-07
Captain: , Olcott, NY (2536)

GPYC is a reminder of what used to be. Very impressive grounds, but the facilities are showing their age.
Heads were buried in the basement and smelled foul.
Shopping is distant and the dockage is very expensive.
Having said that, it was a nice visit to a bygone age.
