Reviews for Great Island Boat Yard
Great experiences at Great Island Boat Yard (GIBY), 2017-08-19
Captain: , Kittery Point, ME (111)

Recently purchased a new (to me) trawler. Had some initial problems. GIBY took me in immediately, assigned a tech and adressed issues. They put me up that evening and I was off the next day. Fast forward 3 weeks - I was on a shake down cruise along mid-coast Maine and had a serious coolant leak. Called GIBY and, again, they took me in immediatly and addressed that issue and two days later replaced all water and coolant hoses. The tech assigned to the job was fast, professional and his work and clean up were amazing. The Service manager, Graham, was also incredibly responsive and professional. The dock crew was also great, wouldn't let me do anything!

Facilities are neat, clean and expansive.

Great experiences, wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

No Breakfast or Lunch, 2017-06-24
Captain: , Block Island, RI (994)

We dinghied over from southeast of Snow to get some breakfast and pick up eggs and drinking water. The Taft guide and ActiveCaptain folks indicated we would find both. However, their cafe closed and will not reopen until, possibly, 2018. That was also where they had minor provisions.

Otherwise the place seemed nice, and they had no problem with us leaving our trash. We did fuel up the dinghy.

What a Great Find!, 2016-08-21
Captain: , Stuart, Florida (599)

Upon recommendation from Chris Saxton at Dolphin Marine (a Marina where customer service is job 1), I arranged for a replacement water heater to be installed at GIBY. Graham was my customer service focal point. Within an hour of my scheduled arrival time, Jeff (with 40 years of service at this one yard - alas retiring 1 Sept 16) was on the boat pulling the heater and prepping the replacement heater. I had to leave for several hours and knew I would probably have to put the floor panels, carpets and furniture back in when I got back late that evening. Imagine opening the saloon door and finding Everything back in their original position and having hot water to boot. Wow. The job site was clean as a whistle, no leaks and Graham worked with me on the slip fee since I was getting service. Trevor the Ops Manager introduced himself and also made sure I was satisfied with the service.
Steve the owner there has an outstanding yard and crew. I know if I'm in the area and need service, this would my first choice.
Class act folks. Customer service in Harpswell seems contagious. Maybe you could export it down south.
PS. The restaurant on site was great for breakfast and lunch.

Captain: , Wicomico Church, VA (524)

We purchased a boat in Maine and it was brought here for survey and needed work. We had extensive engine work done by excellent mechanics as well as other issues addressed. Had the hull painted and that was one of the best jobs we have seen. The staff was professional and helpful at every turn. All was completed on time and we motored out on July 4th.

quick little stop, 2015-09-08
Captain: , Augusta, Maine (365)

I pulled in here to take on water and fuel The facility is nice and one of the cleanest setups I have seen. We only stayed for about 20 minutes to walk the dogs( they have a designated area for this) The only downside I found, and keep in mind I am a greenhorn as a captain but when I went to leave the current was difficult to counteract in my single engine vessel. I had a difficult time keeping from drifting into the slips adjacent to the fuel dock. I imagine this would not pose much challenge for a seasoned skipper just something to be aware of on your approach.

First Class Yard, 2015-07-29
Captain: , Boston (20)

Best yard in New England - Steve and his team are professional, and have customer service as a top priority ... Wintered there, and had some refit /maintenance work done, great talent and great folks ... Needed to launcha and leave in a hurry, Steve and his crew were available by radio/cell all weekend to answer any question I may have had ... Very good value, First Class Operation - only yard i'd use in the Northeast.

Really Great Boat Yard, 2015-07-04
Captain: , Sydney (10)

I am an Australian and have been sailing on the New England coast for several years. I recently decided to buy a yacht in the U.S. and have had it upgraded, managed and stored at GIBY. Steve Rowe and the team at GIBY have been really fantastic. Five stars are not enough!

Unrivaled!, 2015-06-21
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1011)

Probably the finest boatyard on the Atlantic Seaboard!

One of the finest boat yards in New England, 2014-08-27
Captain: , New Castle, NH (21)

I have a GB42 and have stored here in winter as well had extensive work dine here. Like other comments, I feel like home here and always feel that Steve and Stephanie are looking out for me in assuring that my boat is in great shape. Steve and his crew give a personal touch that is genuine and sincere which you don't find in many other places. I always feel I am receiving value and the best advice possible. I'm always impressed how Steve follows up to be sure any repairs meet my expectation.

GIBY is an immaculate facility and has a that reminds me of everything New England. A beautiful setting and an unrushed feel that gives you confidence that you are in good hands. if you have a Grand Banks, this is the place to come. But I see every type of power and sail boat here also. Great craftsmanship. Pride in what they do.

I bring my boat here from many miles away, but always feel I made the best decision in leaving her in Steve's hands.

Top Notch Boat Yard, 2014-08-25
Captain: , Sebastian, Florida (387)

+ We believe GIBY to be one of the best full service boat yards on coast. The staff could not be more knowledgeable, friendly, and professional.
+ The entire cove is taken up by the boat yard and its associated mooring field.
+ Well protected but exposed to a very long fetch to the south --- although the boat yard personnel claim good all around protection.
+ GIBY monitors VHF channel #9.
+ We have had very positive experiences regarding planned maintenance work. We have been told by previous customers, foreign to the yard, that they do quick & efficient emergency service also.
+ GIBY has all services, amenities, treated fuel, pump out, etc..
+ They have excellent high speed wifi.
+ Verizon internet is also easily accessible.
+ There are no stores or other commercial services close by.
+ One must be cautious about depth when coming into fuel dock during very low tides.

Very nice spot but little outside boatyard, 2013-10-06
Captain: , Marblehead, MA (50)

Stayed at the marina on a Friday night in early August. Called ahead for a reservation. I have never seen a boatyard so clean and orderly. The staff were very nice and the transient facilities excellent. Be aware there is nothing in the vicinity except for the small cafe which closes after lunch (we enjoyed the Lobster quiche for breakfast). Make sure your mosquito screens are in at night.

We did not require any marine services but this looks like the place to be if you need any type of repair.

Wonderful people, 2013-08-26
Captain: , Falmouth ME (50)

YOU just can not get more protection and hospitalty

The best there is on the east coast, 2013-08-11
Captain: , Hingham, Ma (10)

Just look around the yard and you will immediately understand what high standards are set by Steve and Stephanie... The team knows how to get the job done right the first time and be honest about doing it the most cost effective way... I keep my GB42 here inside with her other 12+ GB sister ships...She is definitely happy coming home for the winter to be with her family.

Wonderful Boat Yard, 2013-08-08
Captain: , Rumsey Island (330)

From the moment you set foot on this property, you sense a first-class operation. As clean and organized as any yard on the east coast. Quality comes across immediately.

Cafe serves some great food, too!

Wheelhouse Cafe, 2013-07-07

Best yard in the East, 2012-04-09
Captain: , Harpswell, Maine, USA (90)

We have cruised from Maine to Virginia and this the best boatyard we have found. We like it so much we have stored and moored our Grand Banks 46 here for three years. The staff if extremely skilled and helpful.

Fabulous resource!, 2011-05-31

Great Island Boatyard, 2009-07-01
Captain: , Great Island, Maine (323)

Excellent service with friendly and helpful staff. Facilities are super. The only problem is the lack of shopping without resorting to a car.

One of the best, 2009-05-03
Captain: , Placida, Florida (101)

New owners Steve and Stephnie Rowe have made this the premier boat yard and stopover on the Maine Coast. Inside storage in new heated barns, great docks, SUPER new showers, and a terrific attitude make this a must vist location cruising the Maine coast.

GIBY, 2007-06-01
