Follow the channel from the waypoint found on most charts, south of Little Stirup Cay. There is 9 to 10 feet of water throughout. Enter the cut (which is plenty deep) although it's hard to spot until you're right there. When exiting the cut into the harbor, the channel bears slightly to starboard to a pair of markers. Then there is a sharp 90 degree turn to starboard. The marina is at the end.

Great Harbour Cay offers some of the most beautiful scenery to be found anywhere in the Bahamas. The entire east coast is fringed by miles of pristine white sand beaches. Spend a day at the beach with your favorite book or take a serene bike ride to Sugar Beach Caves for a day of exploring and snorkeling. The island has a 9 hole golf course to keep you off the beach for a while; but not for long, fairway number 5 parallels a stunning stretch of white sand and turquoise water.

Reviews for Great Harbour Cay Marina
Very Friendly and Cool place, 2017-08-30
Captain: , Lighthouse Point (282)

Had no problem getting in with yacht that draws 6 ft. Very friendly and enthusiastic support from marina staff. No-seeums for 30 mins at dusk then gone, plus they srayed at 8pm for them anyway. In a bad planning moment we ran out of beer but local champion Simione came through and found a case! We really enjoyed our nights stay and will be back again! Thanks Steven.

Loved this place!, 2017-08-24
Captain: , stuart (21)

Stayed two nites in July on way back from exumas. Dockmaster Steven and crew did an excellent job of taking care of all our needs and were very friendly at same time. We got there on Rib night and paid $10 for a Rib dinner. Place was well kept and in good repair. Water for washdown seemed very fresh and clean. I really don't understand how anyone could write anything less than a posative review. Hope to be back soon.

I Must Be At The Wrong Marina, 2017-08-23
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale (10)

Cannot believe all the great reviews for this was in shambles when I was there in June. They are trying to sell the marina and adjacent facilities and it really is showing age and needs updates. Few things really terrible..Pool not filled and a mess, they do not cut vegatation and at night BUGS they do not spray as well. Left after one night.

Management response:
Hi Captain Peter,
We are struggling to understand the basis of your review and the erroneous information you have provided. The Marina is not, and has not been for sale, nor is it in shambles or run down. Please refer to the many previous reviews, which are contrary to your statement. We pride our selves in our maintenance, in the condition of our facilities, the wide range of services we provide, and our friendly helpful staff. We also offer many other personal services free of charge to make sure our guests are happy and have all that they need.
We do understand that you may have assumed that the Tambo Club property and the Pool Bar Restaurant are part of the Marina. These properties are not owned by the Marina and are unfortunately closed and a bit run down. This is entirely out of our control and we hope not a reflection on our Marina or the operation of it. We will do our best and make immediate efforts to see another restaurant open here at the Marina as soon as possible. We look forward to greater things in the coming season.
As for the BUGS, Great Harbour Cay and the Marina are fogged for mosquitoes and sand flies twice a week, weather permitting. Your one night here may of been an abnormally buggy day.
We really are sorry that you left with such a bad feeling. The truth is there is no one place for everybody. I hope you can accept our apology for not meeting your expectations. Please feel free to contact us personally to see if there is any way to get you back for more than one day.

Can yapping dogs be used as bait?, 2017-07-10
Captain: , Maine (221)

Dave & Sharon S/V FifthQuarter

This is my second time at GHC Marina. Nothing but good things to say about the staff here.
My only gripe is with the condo owner across the way who has a few yapping ankle biters that go into a frenzy several times a day. I love dogs, but the owner needs to get a swift kick in the keister.
Off my soap box.
Keep up the great work, GHC Marina.

Management response:
Hi Dave and Sharon, I feel your pain. The little yappies are by the most part kept inside and don't pose a problem. However, when they get put out they can be a nuisance. Sorry you had to be here when they were out side.
Happy to hear you enjoyed your self beyond that.Hope to see you back again in the Winter.

Improved Marina, 2017-07-08
Captain: , Palm City FL (164)

Our first visit in several years - first visit was 25+ years ago. Marina much improved, good docks, free washdown water, clean showers, laundry, wifi that works and a well stocked store. Beach Club still great food and location. Well Done!

Management response:
Hi Capt. We were happy to have you back after such a long absence. Not everybody knows the long history of this marina which was built in the late 60's early 70's. There are not many marinas in The Bahamas which are so well protected and have such well kept facilities. So glad you enjoyed your stay. I will make sure and let The Beach Club know how much you enjoyed it. Look forward to seeing you back.

Was disappointed, 2017-06-23
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

Was disappointed for the reality vs what I expected. Wanted to visit because of all I had heard about Great Harbor.
Our experience yesterday was that the surroundings are run down.
The negative--
The pool is closed and empty
The nearby restaurant is run down , the poor condition and very high prices of the place caused us to leave before ordering. The restaurant and property is for sale.
The loaner bikes were nice but in bad shape.
The flies at the dock were the worst I have ever seen, making eating outside a disgusting endeavor
Rental cars and golf cars $80/day must rent for whole day.
The good
Incredible hurricane hole
Docks in ok condition
Locals and boaters very friendly
Beach about a Mile away is beautiful
Beach restaurant open for lunch seems nice.
Big island
Decent typical out island store for buying stuff at marina
Airport about mile and half from Marina
Great fishing inshore ,reef, trolling

Management response:
Hi Captain Crush, I am really sorry to hear that your stay was less than expected. We do work really hard to assist our guests to the best we can. In general, we provide three nights of reasonably priced evening events. Monday is Pot luck, Thursday is Pizza Night and Friday is Chill and Grill. However, as of late our mail boat (supplies from Nassau) has not been coming on a regular schedule. This has stopped us from being able to do provide some of these functions. Now, for the one issue that is 100% within my control, Bicycles! They are at the end of their two year life span and as much as we try to keep them up and running, we are losing that battle. We will have new ones before the end of Hurricane season. As much as it pains me to have anything but a 5* review. I must thank you and I will do my best to correct what is in my power. Thank You for stopping by..... Until Next Tide....

wonderful spot, perfect hurricane hole, reasonable , 2017-06-03
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (81)

this would be a 5 star location if they had the pool operating and a nice restaurant. the marina itself is excellent! good power, good docks. we always stay at least a week. there is very little to offer at the marina in terms of restaurant, bar, shopping. but the marina provides free bikes which are in great condition. ride to the Beach Club for lunch and spend the day at the spectacular beach. or ride into "town" and have awesome cracked conch at Coolio Mae's. for dinner call Carriearl Resort and Marty or Angie will pick you up for a marvelous, feel like your at home evening. we LOVE this place. the marina takes bread orders twice a week, pizza orders every Thursday, chill and grill on Fridays and potlucks. Steven is the Dockmaster and Kimberly works in office. VERY helpful. if you stay for a week or more dockage is very reasonable with active captain discount which allows you to stay longer. there is more at Great Harbour to do than you might think!

Management response:
Hi Greg, My apologies for the delayed response. Thank you for seeing GHC as we see it, The slow period (May and June) coming upon us and we are trying to prepare for The summer families that flock here for July and August. Look forward to seeing you again.

Until Next Tide.. SJ

One of the best in the Bahamas, 2017-05-17
Captain: , Marathon, FL (1264)

GHCM offers most everything a cruiser could need. Great protection from winds, decent docks w power and ok water. Nearby amenities and helpful personnel make this a first class stop. Problems with internet connections ( both WiFi and cellular) and dust from the nearby road are the only criticisms that knock the overall rating to 4 stars.

Favorite Bahamas marina, 2017-04-29
Captain: , Bristol, RI (938)

Still my favorite Bahamas marina. Steven and his whole team have kept up the great service. The excellent monthly rate and good air service makes it a great place to leave the boat or to change crew. For some reason, it seems to get more than its share of interesting cruisers -- so if you are a jerk, consider someplace else :)

Management response:
Hi Carl, Thank you for your positive response. You are right about interesting cruisers. Its been a great experience meeting all of them.

Deeper than we thought!, 2017-04-14
Captain: , London (80)

Entered and exited the marina and hour after high tide, and had not problems of the recommended route. We draw close to 7ft. Check in was very easy and pleasant. Marina does not charge when you use their berths to check in. We stayed for a night anyway - lovely team here. Only negative, the free wash- down water, is very close to sea water.

Safe harbor in a blow, 2017-04-08
Captain: , Jamestown RI (263)

Stayed here for a week waiting out a north blow. Steve and his staff were able to accommodate four trawlers 39-48' with no reservations when a front blew through the second week of March. Marina offers 360 degree protection. We enjoyed the activities and fresh bread delivered to our boat, very clean restrooms/showers and friendly staff. Just what we needed!

Fun marina with excellent staff-some physical plant issues, 2017-03-29
Captain: , Lewis Creek, Md (1304)

This was a second stay. Last year was two weeks; then a month this year. Things were fixed. There are now more bathrooms; there are still lots of activies, and a beach 25 minutes away. The internet seems better except when a lot of boats with amplified routers are in town. The Conch salad at the end of the dock is excellent. Unfortunately, with Mathew they have had a lot of problems with phone service which now seem to be abating, but there are still occasional outages so persist if you can't get through.

Management response:
Dear John,

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review and glad you enjoyed your stay. We are working on both of your concerns. By the end of the summer we will be adding at least two more bathrooms, maybe more. We are also adding two more WiFi antennas with their own internet lines independent from what we have now. That should alleviate the load in our current system. We look forward to welcome you back next year and show you our on-going improvements!

2/2/2016 Majestic Phoenix captain Phil W, 2017-03-20
Captain: , new York (31)

I have not often seen a place go out of there way to make sure they can help, unless impossible. The place is well protected, clean, many services around with people more than willing to help you out. And did I also mention clean. Wi-Fi is pretty good. And I did get my perks as mentioned if you say you are a member of active captain. There pricing is very reasonable let's hope it stays that way. This was last years comment, I hear it has gone up a lot, not a good thing... And I just read the Hans has left, a great loss he was a great manager and a nice guy. We wish him well.

Plusses and Minuses, 2017-03-17
Captain: , Miami, Florida (20)

The marina is nice and a good place to hide from bad weather. The fixed docks are in good shape and all the cleats are solid. Electricity is metered which is a real plus in the Bahamas. The staff is friendly and helpful and the marina has a regular schedule of evening activities many nights of the week. There are bicycles to use to explore the island but quite a few are in disrepair so its hit and miss to get them. if you are coming to use the internet I am afraid that you will be disappointed. it is off and not working more than kt works and when it does work it is very slow. Better internet is available in the anchorage outside the cut from Coolie Maes restaurant. Lastly, keep in mind that the marina issurrounded by a condo complex. We had the pleasure of having to listen to a yapping dog throughout the day and night every day we were there.

Great place to go and relax and enjoy., 2017-02-26
Captain: , Yorktown, VA (972)

We had a wonderful, relaxing 36 day stay. Steven, Sam, Kimberly, Tramekia, Ramone, and the entire staff were amazing. They we proactive in making sure our stay was pleasant and they were all extremely helpful, congenial, happy, and just great people.
They do an excellent job of organizing and planning activities; Monday, Cover Dish Dinner, Wednesday, Dinner provided by the deli, Thursday, Pizza which is great, Friday, Chill & Grill, also great. There is a nice gazebo where other boaters meet to play games, socialize, and enjoy cocktail hour. Bikes are available for no charge.
They also organized other outings to neighboring cayes and provided transportation to a local fish fry.
The power is clean, the Wi-Fi is great, and the beaches are empty and beautiful. The people on the entire island from the children to adults are the friendliest we have encountered. They all wave, say hello, have a smile on their face, and just happy people.
Clearing customs is the best here as they either come to your boat or to the office. It was the best experience we had have clearing and they gave us 6 months with no issues. In the past, we could only get 90 days then had to go back to get an extension.
There is a grocery store right at the marina and two others in the village which is an easy bike ride. Also, in the village is a liquor store that gives a 20% discount for 12 bottles. We had four boats in our group so we pulled our order to receive the discount. There is a hardware store and a few restaurants. You can have your choice of local food or go to the lovely Cariearls for a wonderful meal with drinks and atmosphere. We would recommend a visit there to experience their hospitality and great food. Fresh fish and conch can be purchased every evening at the end of the dock.
Our stay was very pleasant and we will return in the future.

Great little gem, 2017-02-18
Captain: , MIAMI (10)

Being 88 feet with a 7.5 foot draught I was a ittle aprehensive about coming into GHC, I had a foot under my wheels at the shallowest spot in a mid tide, my guests loved the entrance to the harbour and the marina is a down to earth, easy going place, the staff is polite and they go out of their way to ensure you are set, I will definately be returning and i am adding this as a must stop for my charters,
Great place to hide from weather and lots to do in the island,
the free water and activities set by the marina are also a nice bonus,

Excellent Protection, 2017-02-03
Captain: , Brandon, VT (422)

Great Harbor Cay Marina is one of the most protected spots we have enjoyed. The docks are fixed, concrete, so a bit difficult to get onto at low tide. The staff is friendly and helpful. No real amenities (I.e. Shopping or provisioning) but fresh fish can be bought on the docks. Clearing in was a simple affair and we got all the time we asked for, even with a cat on board. Well recommended.

Happy Friendly Marina, 2017-01-29
Captain: , Auckland (50)

We stayed here for 9 days waiting for weather to allow us to proceed South. We had planned to anchor off the settlement, but the winds forced us (southerly) to go inside the marina. Easy to approach, markings and guide book are good. Cut is narrow, but once inside the harbour fabulous all weather protection. There was no room to anchor inside the harbour, so we called and got a slip for our Nordhavn 47.

Backing into the slip at about 4:00 we were welcomed by fellow cruisers, and staff. Immediately invited to the chill and grill.

They do a great job of making the place fun and friendly. We got a bit stir crazy as there is not a lot to do. Took lots of long walks. Participated in the cruisers potluck, and had pizza delivered to the boat.

Highly recommend. Plus give a good Active Captain discount.

Excellent place to stay. Marina staff are very friendly, knowledgeable about the island and welcoming! Courtesy bikes are in good repair and free on first come first served. The docks are in good repair. The showers/washrooms are clean and private. Can't say enough about the friendliness of the people here. We went for numerous walks and every person walking or in a car said hello or tooted their horn. The grounds around the marina are clean and pretty. The beach is a bit of a walk or a dinghy ride but worth it. Love this place and most of all the warm welcoming people.

We really enjoyed our stay here 2-5 December. Staff was very polite, energetic and helpful. Customs officials were very professional and made checking in a smooth process. The marina has a great vibe and we will definetely be back to spend more time. Bikes were provided by marina and we enjoyed exploring this beautiful cay. Golf carts available for rent were a nice touch

Great Harbor Cay Marina, 2017-01-03
Captain: , Bucks Harbor (220)

This is our second visit here. The first was last spring and most recently 12/29/16 to 1/04/17. All of the previous reviews are correct. The staff is very friendly, very helpful when landing, showers are clean and the marina is in well kept condition. This not a fancy marina, but a great spot if you are looking for a friendly cruisers, great staff and things to do.

Nice but needs updating, 2016-12-26
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1997)

Pulling in here last night for one night it was definitely the best example of a hurricane hole I have ever stopped at and it would be my first choice to head for if such a storm was coming.
The marina is good well priced, showers are clean but small, wifi is good and docks are secure.
The restaurant is not part of the marina and run by a good group of people but it sorely needs an injection of capital.
Definitely a diamond in the rough.

Really nice stop for R&R, 2016-12-21
Captain: , Miami (70)

Would have given this marina 5 stars instead of 4 as it is well run; has a great and friendly manager (Steve) who would give his shirt off his back if needed; friendly and professional staff and dockhands; easily accessible showers and heads; a variety of activities for boaters; a large group of helpful and thoughtful cruisers (thanks Jay and Karen); on-site customs/immigration if needed; convenient store for small items; and Herbert the fisherman from whom you can buy fresh fish, lobster, or conch at the end of the pier. The one hit for which the fifth star was omitted was the flies and no-see-ums. They are ruthless, and you will need bug spray (the big can). This is particularly true if you are docked where there is a fish cleaning/cutting station or trash recepticle in front of you. Needless to say there are a lot of fisherman in and out, and most of them (from what I saw) only superficially wash down their boat, so the flies are relentless.

Of note: insure you have a good and updated chartbook and nav program. Some of the "markers" that identify the channel before you get to the cut are missing. And also note that it looks like you will head directly into a huge rock formation before making a sharp port turn into the cut. If you take your time, you'll be fine. There is pretty of good water in the cut as well as out of the cut into the marina. There is shoaling on both sides of you as you near the cut so stay in the middle of the channel. Also note that although there is a fuel station for gas and diesel, it is not very functional. Meaning my 40 foot catamaran would not fit. In fact, in my opinion, unless you have a powerboat under 50 feet long with bow and aft thrusters, or a small fishing boat, I would be very leary of attempting a refueling. Ask the staff if they can do a fuel run (you provide your cans) for you. They are very accommodating.

This is a great place to check into the Bahamas. The people or helpful and friendly. There is a small store in the marina with basic items plus car rentals. The Carrierl Hotel will pick you up and treat you to one of the best meals in the Bahamas. The staff seems to be trying to make this a primo place.

Captain: , Punta Gorda, Florida (500)

Very protected. Great staff. Clean facilities. Super Beach. Can't say enough about GHC. Sorry to see Hans, the dockmaster, leave. We will be back.

Management response:
HI Capt. It really makes all of us feel good to see your comments. All of us are sad to see Hans go. I can only say that i will do my best to continue the great ways of GHC Marina. We have had an active October, more due to Mathew than anything else. Hope to see you back soon.

long live the king , 2016-09-06
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale (70)

Hans moved on will be a great loss, we will see how this plays out. Beach bar is closed for the month of September. And the pool bar is barely open. 2 dollars a foot seem a bit high.

Management response:
Hi Capt. It truly is a fact that life in the islands comes to a stand still for Sept and Oct. A lot of places can't afford to stay open. This happens in many out island destinations. However, everyone down here has been abruptly awakened by "Mathew" and has undertaken mass clean ups. The Beach Club is due to be open this week and the Pool Bar was only closed for two days after Mathew. We look forward to seeing all our faithful come back and I know I have large shoes to fill, but I will do my best.

So friendly and helpful in every way. Restrooms and showers are clean and in good working order. They offer free bikes to use aroound the island. They appear to be friendly with everyone else on the island. Easy check in and out as well.

Management response:
Hi Capt. Virginia, thank you so much for noticing our excellent staff, who work very hard to maintain our facilities to top standards. The beauty of Great Harbour Cay(as with many out island communities) is its friendly people and its desire to help one another. Looking forward to your return some day.

Wonderful Place!, 2016-06-15
Captain: , Pensacola (460)

We thoroughly enjoyed our month long stay (in April), and were impressed with the efforts made by Hans (who is extraordinary!) and his team. They worked hard to ensure that everyone felt welcome and that they enjoyed their stay. They were all very customer-service oriented. The people on the island were very friendly, the beaches were beautiful, and our overall stay at Great Harbour Cay Marina was as good, or better, than we had hoped!

Great Place, 2016-06-14
Captain: , Kemah TX (60)

We arrived on Mother's Day and they had flowers and a gift certificate for Melanie. There were lots of activities during our week stay. All the staff are awesome. We used their bikes to ride into town. You can buy fresh seafood right on the docks from local fisherman. We are planning on stopping back on the way to Freeport.

Management response:
We look forward to your return trip.

Captain: , Apponaug R.I. (908)

Well managed, clean and neat, great social activity(Mon. night pot lucks dinners) Crescent beach with sand so fine it is like flour, very capable dock hands and the best marina internet I've found. One issue that is beyound their control is that the BTC internet went down for a day and a half. The whole island was without phone or internet. They do charge 5% additional for using a credit card. That was a surprise. Absolutely we will be back!

Management response:
Hi Michael, Glad to see your comments. I must say one of my favourite moments since I have been in charge at GHC was at the PotLuck dinner when you and Greg off the Meander had that serendipitous moment. Where you and he realised you knew each other many years ago. Looking forward to seeing you again.

Captain: , Chicago (135)

Really great staff. Now transitioning from being run by Hans to the new guy (Steve, I think?). He also seems great, and is from Nassau. Docks good, electric good, wifi good by Bahamian standards. I personally didn't love Great Harbour as an area the way some people do. The beaches (and anything else) are not really walking distance, and you need a pretty serious dinghy just to get out of the harbor area. But it's a solid marina.

Management response:
Thank You for the positive response. I hope the rest of your trip went well and that you got the rest of your supplies in Nassau. Come back anytime, we'll try to get you to love us like the others do, LOL.

First Trip to Bahamas, 2016-05-28
Captain: , Corpus Christi, TX (106)

This is our first trip to the Bahamas and Great Harbour Cay Marina was a highlight of our trip. We spent a week at the marina and enjoyed every day. Hans and his staff are excellent! The facilities are extremely well maintained and the planned events provide an opportunity to meet the other boaters at the marina. We will definitely return to Great Harbour next year.

Management response:
Hi Capt. Thanks for your positive responses. I will do my best to continue the great things Hans has started. Looking forward to seeing you back.

We docked at Great Harbour Cay Marina for 3 nights. Hans, the dockmaster, was friendly and helpful. Marina offered connections for wifi, clean laundry and shower facilities. Free bicycle rentals. Offered some nightly potlucks and gatherings, also offered a cooking class. Nice deli assoociated with the marina.

Customer Service # 1!, 2016-05-05
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (1145)

The marina staff are just wonderful and go above and beyond. We had our dock steps stolen off our boat in Bimini making it difficult to get on and off the boat. We asked Hans if there was a shop on the island that carried dock steps - as you can guess the answer is NO! So Hans brought me a temporary ladder while he had steps made for us!!! I wish I knew the gentleman's name who made the step to thank him - but there are a perfect replacement!
Bikes are free, wifi is free and wash down is free. The staff organize dinghy sunsets, pot luck dinners and do what they can to make your stay wonderful!!! Oh and the beaches are off the charts!!!

Add us to the list that love Great Harbour Cay Marina! We stayed a month and it was perfect for us. Hans and his team do an excellant job. Other posts detail the fun activities at the marina and the island, so I will not repeat. However, we could not get enough of the banana bread delivered to our boat!

The island is quiet and quaint with plenty to do if you find your own fun. We loved the many dingy excusions to secluded areas and beautiful beaches. We like to ride our road bikes for exercise and by doing a few loops around the island we could get some good milage completed with few cars. Just had to learn to bike on the left side of the road!

We are reserving our month for next year and will have our grown kids fly in to the airport. Leair has three flights a day from Nassau and Tropic Ocean flies from Ft. Lauderdale.

Amazing Service!, 2016-04-26
Captain: , Topsail Island (10)

We just returned from a 9 night stay at this amazing Marina in our 26 foot fishing boat. The staff and service at this facility is amazing. From feeling welcomed, going out their way to help, and making sure you feel included; they are top notch. The activities and feeling of community, even with a short stay, were impressive and is clearly created by the culture they have instilled. While we have stayed at nicer or newer facilities, we haven't found a staff that tops this; they made the experience.

Great protected spot,, 2016-04-20
Captain: , Lighthouse Pt FL (80)

Staff has increased, with attn to customer service. Marina is very protected, though the docks are concrete, and quite old. Take care when docking with wind, that you (notice) many of the concrete corners extend slightly beyond the corner piling... therefore can easily put your fiberglass into a concrete corner if not aware.
Very pleasant staff, wifi is incl in fees, electic is per monitored use, and on the expensive side, so monitor your usage if wish to have no surprises.
Staff deserves a 5 Star, the only thing holding it to 4 is the age of the facility, and that the concrete corners need to have a bumper added to them.

The Best Marina Staff, 2016-04-10
Captain: , Sitka (142)

We stayed here last year and on our return visit this year it was even better. The staff bends over backwards to help you. They went as far as to pick a friend up at the airport vs a private taxi. Our dog had a health issue and with no vet on the island, Hans (the marina manager), arranged for the islands nurse to come to the boat and examine our dog all on a Saturday. Even with the marina full, he made arragements to extend our stay if we needed to. Other marinas could take lessons from the staff at GHCM.

Great Stay, 2016-04-09
Captain: , Leesburg VA (175)

We stayed 2 months (Feb and March) at GHC marina.

Four days after arrival, my wife had a serious fall on our boat and needed to be flown to Nassau for x-rays. I mention this only because of the outstanding and unbelievable assistance we had from Hans, Frenchie (nurse) and resident cruisers in the marina. They arranged everything that was required from getting my wife off the boat in a stretcher to having the Life Flight pick us up and take us to Nassau.

This marina has a sense of community that we have not seen in other marinas. Exercise classes 3 days a week, workshops teaching cruisers how to make conch horns, dinghy drifts on Tuesdays where you meet others, potluck dinners in gazebo on Monday nights - the list goes on. From the marina, cruisers often travel together in dinghy flotillas to Shark Creek where mangrove canopies await you as you make your way to the east side of the island where there is a lovely lagoon. Group dinghy trips to Hoffman Cay to see the blue hole and beautiful beach are also possible from the marina.

It is also easy to buy fresh fish, conch and lobster off the boats from fishermen as they come back with their catch.

The Campbell's have produced some golf course walking tour maps of GHC which are nice to get around parts of the island if you want an alternative to the streets.

Carriearl and Beach Club restaurants were two of our favorites.

Others have commented on the marina management and I agree Hans and his staff are superb.

So my 5 star rating is as much about the lifestyle within the marina community as it is about the marina. We plan to come back next winter.

Glad we stopped here, 2016-04-07
Captain: , US East Coast (1116)

On our run from FTL to Harbor Island, we decided to stop here for clearing customs, get fuel and spend the night. It was a great stop. The marina staff was very friendly and accomodating, the boaters made us feel at home. For what we needed it was a very good choice, especially considering very reasonable price for stay.

Customs clearance was very convenient. Just allow a bit extra time for the officer to come from the airport and the marina staff will call you.

I can't give them 5 stars, just b/c the overall marina's facilities were just ok. The pool and the bar/restaurant by the pool looked pretty bad and in serious need for remodeling.

Management response:
Dear Capt. Alex,

Thank you so much for your review and we are very glad you enjoyed your stay at Great Harbour Cay Marina. Unfortunately, we do not own the adjacent property with the pool and bar, but you will be happy to know that the homeowners and the marina are negotiating with the owners of that property to lease the pool area and do a complete renovation of the facilities. We also hope you are able to spend a little more time with us during your next visit and discover the island treasures. The beach on the east side is stunning and fabulously empty. We have mapped dinghy routes through various creeks, snorkeling sites and beautiful deserted beaches that you will fall in love with. Just ask at the Marina office and we will show you where everything is. Cheers and thanks again for your visit!

A must stop in the Bahamas!, 2016-03-31

We came to GHCM a year ago and stayed six weeks. It was awesome. In short it was everything people said it was and more. We've come back this year and just spent two months. Could it have gotten better? Absolutely.

Hans and staff are a congenial group of people dedicated to making your stay relaxing, enjoyable, and "what do you want to do" experience. The Berry's have two wonderful natural resources you'll experience: natural beauty and people. Fabulous beaches, fishing, snorkeling and sightseeing and local people who are genuinely cordial and hospitable.

Had GHCM changed over the past year? You bet. They've built a gazebo that houses pot luck dinners, exercise class, gatherings, etc. And they've acquired a fleet of bicycles that are really used by the marina guests. They've done some landscaping that pulls the marina together, creating defined parking. Pizza night is a win-win evening, that was started late last winner. A grocery store popped up at the marina entrance along with a little deli. And they continue to surprise marina guests with community dinners and functions that are resonantly priced.

You'd be hard pressed to find someone that didn't leave GHCM happier than when they arrived. Believe me when they say, "it's everything people say it is and more!"

Hope to come back again soon but will call well ahead to reserve, 2016-03-25
Captain: , Point Edward (459)

Staff was very helpful. Docks are in good shape. They run a number of programs well suited to the live-aboards. If you are looking to stay for a month or more, this would be a great place to be. Only rated it a 4 star as it will be a 5 star when pool is operational. This island is mostly cash only so bring lots.

Management response:
Dear Ken,

We are very glad you enjoyed your stay at Great Harbour Cay marina. Unfortunately, we do not own the property with the pool. However, we are encouraging the owners to upgrade their facility. Hopefully the pool will be operational by next winter season.

Captain: , port richey (110)

We've stayed here twice over the last several years and enjoyed it and as a testament to the marina they are often very busy. My issue is as a cruiser, it is not a very cruiser friendly marina. No dinghy docks and the only ladder is at the end of bayou. they couldn't accommodate us for another 2 days but would not let us do laundry even just wash a load of clothes. The ladies comment was " were full and the machines are always busy. " I had just walked by and not a machine was in use but rather than " let her know" The wife and I decided to leave a few Days early, not making a reservation this time. It is a nice friendly marina and a great spot, The lack of welcoming weve felt this time compared to other marinas was a bit of a turn off.

Management response:
Dear Captain Ryank,

We are very sorry you did not feel welcome at Great Harbour Cay Marina as we take pride in offering exceptional assistance to cruisers who are anchored outside the cut. Your experience was far from the norm. Slips 9, 22, 30, 46, 47, 49 and 55 all have ladders to be used by boaters who visit us by dinghy. During our peak season, we may have to accommodate marina guests at some of those slips, but we always leave slips 49 and 55 as dinghy access slips and never charge to tie up at our docks. We also provide island maps and information, car rental reservations, airline reservations, dinner reservations, trash collection, ability to participate in our pot lucks (pending space availability), and we do all this FREE of charge. We also sell ice and R/O water to our visiting cruisers. However, there are some services that we strictly reserve for our marina guests. These services are WiFi, fresh water showers, bicycles and laundry facilities. We hope you truly understand our position and that you visit us next time you are in the area. Please remember to make reservations as we are often completely booked. Cheers!

This marina is among the best we've visited anywhere. Dockmaster Hans and his crew are skilled, efficient, and wonderfully warm and welcoming. The facilities are in great shape, bathrooms are super clean, showers are great. The marina is a Customs check in location and it was easy and pleasant. We were here several days this year waiting out strong cold fronts and the basin is a very well protected hurricane hole. We will be back!

What a time we had here! Feb. 20th through March 15th, 2016. Came here on the advice of a close friend & fellow looper & could not be happier. Even though the weather this year was often windy & cool we throughly enjoyed ourselves meeting many friends, new & old, having relatives visit & exploring by dinghy, bike & walking. The marina staff was unbelievably helpful. Marina activities were constant with morning exercise, pot luck night, pizza night, bread delivered dockside, Sunday church & Sunday Brunch, evening Dink & Drink, organized dinghy trips & so much more. Did I mention the marina staff is unbelievably friendly & helpful? Three local grocery stores carry almost anything you "need" though likely not everything you "want". The facilities here are top notch including the bathrooms. GHC Marina is a great place to spend the winter of just duck out of the weather to wait for the next weather window.

The reviews are true. This is a 5- star Marina! Hans and his entire staff are pleasant, helpful and friendly. Hans runs a tight ship and keeps the Marina clean, well organized and in good repair. We stayed for a month as we did not want to leave.
Winter season residents at the Marina, Christelle and Gary (Time&Tide) go above and beyond working with the staff to coordinate the many events (pizza night, bread delivery, pot lucks, conch horn making etc...) as well as helping with info on the island and where to visit. Jay and Karen(Largo)were also very helpful and we enjoyed the exercise program they started. We'll take away many great memories from the friends we made - the list is too long to mention!
Plenty of places to explore on the island and history to discover. We had a special opportunity to dine at the Tamboo club (only open for special events, in our case the wahoo tournament that was taking place) - what a treat!
Thanks to Hans and staff for a fantastic month allowing us to see this special place. A must go marina on your cruising journeys.

Captain: , Forked River, NJ (604)

We don't normally do marina's but this one exceeded our expectations. Marina management (Haus) runs a great operation. Also a a long time Marina resident creates a great social atmosphere with various get togethers. In a few days you find you know almost everyone. In the pm the local fisherman bring in their catch and will filay it for you. The Marina will bring you fuel in jerry cans. They provide nice bikes for exploring the island.
The bath/showers are the best we have seen in a long time.
Reservations advised as they are often full.

Captain: , Lake Texoma (190)

We read the reviews, but wanted to experience Great Harbour Cay Marina first hand to see if something could really be that good? It is!?and even better! We arrived on Christmas late in the afternoon to an open office & very welcoming staff. That has continued to be the case. The office is open early until late to be at service to any needs that arise from answering questions, providing any request asked of them like closing hatches & curtains should you have gone on a dinghy ride when weather crept into the picture unexpectedly. The staff is constantly cleaning the grounds, especially deep cleaning the restrooms, which seems to be several times a day. The GM, Hans does an incredible job with customer service obviously as his number one priority. There are activities if you desire such like Pot-Luck dinner, brunch or pizza night. The Wifi is the strongest we have had in a marina. There are bikes to ride & explore the beautiful beaches Great Harbour Cay has to offer. The beach or towns aren't too far of a ride for any boater that is used to biking to somewhere they really want to see?.like a sandy beach with gorgeous turquoise water! There is a grocery store right near the marina as well as two grill type restaurants very close, one with a bar. It is easy to see why people duck into the safe harbor of Great Harbour Cay Marina for a night & end up staying for weeks & months. It is a great place to be! The bonus is the type of other boaters the marina attracts: a bunch of nice folk! We will be back, hopefully again & again.

A convenient porty of entry. General manager Hans Febles is extraordinary; he is helpful, friendly and cheerful. Hans and his staff are tireless. They provide pizzand a on Thursday night, chill and grill on Friday night, delivery of fresh bread three days a week. The free bicycles are useful for getting to the beautiful beach and the beach bar restaurant. There is a wonderful Sunday brunch at the Carriearl B&B on the beach. Two small grocery stores in town. On site there is a deli serving lunch, a small convenience store and a nearby restaurant for dinner. Cruisers gather at picnic tables in the pavilion for impromptu pot lucks. Great kayaking trails.

We came in from Bimini - a long day across the banks. The entrance to the harbor is neat - as protected as you can get. We called ahead to make sure we could stay week due to's a good idea to call ahead, they stay very busy now! The marina called for Customs/Immigration who came to our boat for a very quick & easy check in process. We enjoyed our stay very much - made some very good friends. The island isn't very big, we saw just about all of it - both walking and using their bikes. Pretty beaches and nice folks.

Spent 1 month at Great Harbour Cay marina.
It is a must go for anyone.
The most beautiful water and beach I have seen so far (about 15 minutes on the bicycle).
The friendliest marina employees.
The fastest internet I have seen in the Bahamas
Showers and restroom are very clean.
They even loan you bicycles if you do not have one.
Only wish there was a pool!
You can buy fresh lobster and fish from Hubert the fisherman at the end of the dock.
Highly recommend to anyone!

We checked into the country at the marina. It was easy; the officials were very courteous and quick. We could not fill out the paperwork fast enough to keep up with them. Marina staff is friendly and helpful. We walked to town and everyone was welcoming. We took the 1 speed marina bikes out to Sugar Beach caves and the ruins and then over to the Beach Cub where one plate of conch bits was enough for two of us for lunch. Coolie Mae's in town also makes a great cracked conch. We are here for a week because of forecasted weather and very protected. White Water Grocery store is pretty well-stocked for a small store.

This was a one night stop for us on the way to the Exumas. The harbour is very protected and easy to enter. The staff was extremely helpful. We cleared into the country here and it couldn't have been easier or quicker. We walked over to the beach which was beautiful and worth the longer than expected walk. Dinner at the pool bar and grill was also very good. Hopefully, we get to stay longer in the future.

Five stars!, 2015-08-22
Captain: , Salcombe, UK (170)

Not much I can add to the previous reviews. A truly excellent marina, great staff, beautiful beaches nearby. One small example: we had air on problems, the gentleman who arrived to help spent an hour crawling around the engine room, finally decided it needed parts he did not have and adamantly refused any payment for his time "because I didn't fix it." Honest, good people.

The Greatest, 2015-08-19
Captain: , MV Red Head (61833)

I just want to update my review to make it very clear - we walked to the beach every day for 10 weeks. It's about a 0.75 mile walk. It's surely easier with bikes or a golf cart but they aren't required.

And while we're in our mid-50's, for 8 of the weeks we walked daily with another couple in their 70's. If anything, the exercise for all of us was a good thing.

We arrived at Great Harbour Cay Marina in mid-February and stayed for 2 full months onboard. So, we have a good feel for the marina, the surroundings, and even the nearby surrounding areas.

The marina facilities are exceptional. They will exceed your expectations for a Bahamian marina. Actually, they'll exceed your expectations for a US marina. Everything is very clean, safe, and secure. The location of the marina is in a hurricane hole of a basin. Except for the 2-3 foot tides, we never moved an inch over the 2 months. There is exceptional wind protection as well. The only danger is that you need to check weather for outside the basin before leaving because all weather is diminished inside.

We don't usually use marina showers or bathrooms. But here we conserved on water usage so we made daily use of them. They were kept unusually clean - it's something that everyone comments on. They clean them multiple times every day. The showers were great and we never had problems getting hot or warm water exactly like we wanted.

The staff here is among the best at any marina, anywhere. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and honestly tries to make sure you have the best stay possible. We wrote multiple Marina Minute newsletter segments about this marina because they are wonderful examples about how the entire staff makes a difference. Dockhand Meco will be terribly missed by our dogs. His daily greeting (to them) included treats to the point where the dogs knew his voice from 20 slips away. Ramone taught me how to find, husk, and open a coconut like a native Bahamian. That would have exceeded my expectation alone. But when he pulled out a fifth of gin to show how to mix the perfect fresh coconut milk drink, is was over-the-top. Kimberley's friendly greetings and wonderful disposition made the stay like being with family (without the bad parts!). When a few of us couldn't get reservations at the restaurant for pizza and beer night, Kimberly arranged with local chef and fuel dock attendant Hector to make a couple of pizzas and delivered them herself to our boats.

Marina manager Hans is a total pro. His hospitality background is obvious. I wish we could clone Hans and have him appear at hundreds of other marinas. The reason the staff is so wonderful and the reason the facilities are so perfect is all because of Hans. Every day there were events at the marina - pot lucks, dinghy raftings, restaurant specials, art classes, yoga, games, talks, and more. Hans made all of that happen. You don't feel obligated to do everything but it's wonderful having the option of going to these events. They were all fun.

Getting off the boat, we took daily walks to the beach missing only 4 days in 2 months. The walk is along a road and ends at a public beach access about 3/4 mile away. There are no words we can use to describe how wonderful, clean, and beautiful the beaches are here. We would often walk for miles along the beach and never see another person. The water is crystal clear and nicer than any beach we've seen in our 12+ years of cruising. We made daily postings of our dog's beach explorations in with pictures. You can travel hundreds of miles further in the Bahamas but you won't find nicer beaches than the ones right here.

We also took a small boat out twice to surrounding cays within a 30 mile area. We got the most basic of exposure to the Berry Island and now know we have to come back to explore more. Hoffman's Cay shouldn't be missed even if you don't want to jump off the 30 foot cliff into the blue hole - it's incredible. Lunch at Flo's was a treat. But the other cays are all beautiful, unspoiled, and accessible - Whale, Bond, Bird, and more.

Because we travel with 2 large labrador retrievers, it's especially nice when there are things that the dogs can do. In all of our travels, this is the best island for dogs that we have ever been to. Beach access allowing them to run and swim is too perfect. Our dogs lost weight from the daily morning romps and slept throughout the rest of the day, dreaming about their next beach outing. They will miss this place terribly.

This barely begins to provide my impressions of this marina and area. It's a very laid back and natural place. If you're looking for a lot of night life, this might not be the place for you. But if you want the best of what the Bahamas has to offer, don't pass by. You'll need at least a week to experience it. But don't pay until you're ready to leave because you might find yourself wanting the monthly rate.

If I had the power to change anything here, there is one thing that I'd change. The name of this island should be GREATEST Harbour Cay to more accurately reflect the experience.

We'll be back.

Nice but in no ways GREAT., 2015-08-19
Captain: , Ft Myers Beach, FL (31)

Stayed for a week in June 2015. Many of the reviews we found to have overrated the place.
1. The beaches are beautiful but in no ways are within walking distance. Bike or golf cart.
2. Tha marina wi-fi was almost non-existent a few docks away from the main dock area.
3. Buggy, buggy, buggy in the evening limiting activities.
4. Broken/missing hose bibs on some docks causing tus o run 150' of hose to fill tanks upon departing.
5. The pool was closed for months and no work was being done.
6. Bullocks Harbor is a long ways from the marina. No loss though as it isn't much of a settlement. Take a pass, there's many better settlements.
7. Didnt really appreciate the resident Iguana crawling onto our boat either.
Nice marina, well-protected. Nice people as reviewed. Nice laundry. Much better to be on a dock close to the dockmasters hut for water/wifi et al.

Management response:
Dear Capt. Carter,
Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to Great Harbour Cay Marina. We are deeply sadden that your expectations were not met. Our staff works extremely hard to provide every guest with a pleasant experience and keep the facilities well maintained, clean and organized.
We are glad you took the time to visit our beautiful beaches. The distance from the Marina to the beach is about 3/4 of a mile. Most people do enjoy the walk along the empty road, but for those who may want to get there faster, we provide bicycles free of charge. Another fun alternative is our complimentary rides to the Beach Club for great burgers, drinks and all the beach time you can handle. There are also outside showers, bathrooms and free WiFi at the Beach Club for your convenience. Just call the Marina office when you are finished and we will gladly pick you up.
Last year we upgraded the Marina WiFi including the installation of new antennas (EAST and WEST) carrying the signal to all the slips. At times and due to the layout of the docks, large vessels in slips 28 and 29 do interfere with the signal beyond slip 34. In order to make WiFi available to all our guests, we built a shady gazebo with comfortable seating very close to the WiFi antennas. The signal is excellent at the gazebo.
Every dock at the marina has working hose bibs for wash-down water which we provide free of charge. However, metered R/O water is only available to slips 7, 9, 10 and 16-32. We routinely use hoses to provide R/O water if a vessel is in slips 34 through 42. During our low season we will truly consider upgrading our R/O water pumps and extending the R/O line to cover the entire marina. Thank you for your kind suggestion.
Agnes Trincard, our local resident nurse, operates a mosquito spray program year-round. Unfortunately, bugs are a general problem in all of The Bahamas, especially on calm summer evenings. We continue to work closely with Agnes to fumigate our premises when outdoor events are planned. The spray material is organic and does provide temporary relieve. We are also working with Paul and Janet Rich, the owners of the restaurant and pool adjacent to the marina property. All the activity at the marina may encourage them to fix the pool or attract a buyer as the property is currently for sale.
Since your visit, a wonderful bakery/deli has opened near slips 48-52 and there is a grocery store opening across the road from the marina on October 1st. We are also working on a comprehensive welcome pack that will include a list of on-going activities, a description of our services and a multitude of dinghy routs and island trails to help our guest make the most of their visit. Great Harbour Cay and the rest of the Berry Islands are a hidden jewel for cruisers wanting to escape the crowded world we live in. Just 150 nautical miles from Florida, you will find incomparable scenery, blissful seclusion and a paradise to call your own. We hope you visit us again in the near future, we will keep the iguana from your boat. Our sincerest apologies.
Hans Febles

Interesting alternative stop if you're running east to Eleuthera or Exumas.
Great protection, nice beaches and very good bottom fishing.
Friendly personnel and adequate facilities.
Take your dinghy to Hoffman's Cay to see the blue hole, it's 14 miles away but very doable with a small craft in good weather.
Navigate shark creek (only at high tide) and explore the Sugar caves.
The beach club is the place to be for lunch.

Captain: , Lewes, DE (30)

Wjhat a warm and wonderful place on the planet! The dockmaster, Hans, warmly greeted us with Rum punches once we were tied up. He is truly a gem, so kind and welcoming, a true gentleman. Giving us rides to the Beach Club, advising on where to go snorkeling, island history. He and his staff made the place so special in addition to the natural beauty of the island. Not a lot here. A grocery store and liquor store with limited inventory. But truly a gettaway and we'll be back.

Nice Marina!, 2015-05-01
Captain: , Slidell, La. (1148)

While we only stayed one night, the staff was extremely helpful and courteous. The radio was answered promptly and two people helped us dock. Since there was a fire on the island the nightly activities that a lot of other reviewers discuss were not available. As an Active Captain Member you will receive a free bag of ice. There is a "pool" and bar within walking distance, but they are not associated with the marina and the pool was unusable. The only negative about the marina that we had was it was a bit hard to get on and off of our particular boat with the tide changes that fluctuated by a couple of feet and also because of the short slip that we were on. Also, the fee for the washers and dryers was $5 per wash or dry which is the highest rates we have ever seen at any marina including all of the ones we have visited in the Bahamas. We will go back as it was a friendly and quaint place to visit. Sophie our poodle really loved the treats that were given to her upon arrival so she's all for a return visit!

Marvelous To The Extreme, 2015-04-14
Captain: , USEastCoast (664)

We came to Great Harbour Cay Marina based on the number of outstanding reviews. In fact, we decided to skip the West End completely as our Port of Entry. We are so incredibly happy about that choice! The Berry Islands are one of the most overlooked island groups despite having so much to offer. Great Harbour Cay Marina is perhaps one of the friendliest and welcoming places we have ever been. Hans has begun the establishment of a first class marina with all the openheartedness and warmth you can imagine. From the first call on CH 16 to the smiles on the dock as you come in, it is like coming home. They have organized daily events so that, should you choose, you can meet your fellow cruisers, gain valuable local knowledge and have a lot of fun. This is paradise after all and the crew at GHCM make all that much better. The bathrooms are, while perhaps not huge, are clean and are set up with shower, toilet and sink in each. The wifi has been very good, better than many in the states. While the docks are fixed and can provide some with challenges at low tide, they are concrete (wood rub rails on the piers) and they are immaculate. There are built in fish cleaning stations which, with the number of fish that we caught, were very welcome indeed! Yes you have to pay for RO water; no you don’t for wash down. Yes you pay for electricity, but you do at home as well now don’t you? The dock fees are very reasonable, the staff friendly and helpful and the location smack in the middle of paradise, what more does one really need? We came in intending to stay for a day or two and ended up here for 8. When we head back from the outer islands you can bet we will stop here again. We view this marina (and Island group) as a necessary stop.

I have been here for two months as well and everything Jeff said (previous review) is 100% true. My daughter wrote: "Great Harbour Cay (GHC) Marina is a small, clean marina run by an amazing staff. The manager, Hanz, has created such a welcoming environment with some sort of daily ?event? available for us. Potluck on Mondays, drink and dink on Tuesdays, Petanque (like bocce ball) on Wednesdays with some of the locals and most importantly special rum punch after, free wine Thursdays at CarriEarls, chill ?n grill Fridays, Saturday nights there was usually some sort of party, and Sunday brunch at CarriEarls with a free mimosa! There was also usually an art class (sea glass jewelry making, painting coconuts, napkin rings?) once a week and all proceeds went to the school (there is also an amazing art shack with local art and more that also donates to the school). The Beach Club, CarriEarls (owned by a great English couple so not local food), Pool Bar, and Collie Mays (great bread delivered to the marina 3 days a week!) are the main places to enjoy local food like conch fritters! I felt like I was at a little Club Med!"

Hans & his crew do a great job. Stayed for about four weeks in March. Electric & Water are pretty expensive so watch your usage. The pool is unusable. Great Harbour is very laid back. Bit of a walk for provisions but stores are stocked pretty good day after supply boat. Very protected harbor.

We never go to marinas while in the Bahamas but this year due to the weather pattern we stayed here for a month. We fell in love with the place and the staff. All the good you have read about Great Harbour Marina is true, they are GREAT!

Great, friendly marina, 2015-03-29

This was our first stop into the Bahamas and the staff here couldn't have been nicer. The marina is well protected from winds in any direction so was a great place to sit out a few windy days.

Good place, some confusion over pricing, 2015-03-28
Captain: , Little Creek VA (605)

We loved the staff and the facility, except the confusion over the dockage pricing. Hans has fixed it now, and given us a refund, but orginally we said we would stay for a week and pay that rate ($7/ft/week), but because of a good weather window, wanted to leave after 6 days...they made us pay the 50% higher daily rate ($1.50/ft/day)! Currently, the Condo docks accross from the marina are being jackhammered, but this should end, and the quite should return.

Management response:
Dear Capt. Zedaker,
We are very happy to know you enjoyed our beautiful facility and our caring staff. My apologies for the confusion at check out. Our marina registration system only allows managers to change rates and offer discounts. If a manager is not available at the time of check out, staff members will charge the standard rate and request a price adjustment from the next available manager. A manager will review the file and issue a refund accordingly.
We wish you safe travels and hope you return very soon to enjoy our warm hospitality, the magnificent crescent beach, explore the Sugar Beach Caves, find that perfect Sand Dollar at Shell Beach, make a coconut fish at one of our art classes, and enjoy everything else Great Harbour Cay has to offer.

Pleasant and peaceful marina. Staff is great and very helpful. Pleanty of places to walk, things to do and explore with your dinghy. Good stopping off point on your way to Abacos or Harbour Island, Eluthera. No problem at all for a 6' draft boat, through the cut and into the marina. We found friendly neighbors and a weekly potluck, among other things. We will be back.......................and soon.

Friendly helpful staff. Gave me a ride back from the Batelco office. Customs was easy right at the marina office. Fuel is not at the marina but in the channel on the way in. Paid 4.63/g gas 2-25-15. Wifi worked for us but others reported problems. (We were right next to the officeand have a great booster). They had new equipment arriving on the next plane in.

Hidden Gem, 2015-03-12
Captain: , Portland, Maine (845)

Hans and his staff including Meko, Kim, Ramone, Sam and Roberto go above and beyond to make your stay perfect. We spent 6 weeks here and enjoyed every minute. The marina is protected from wind and waves and the whole facility is very nice. Bathrooms are outstanding. The staff makes sure you know about each day's social events. They usually have something every night. Our favorites were the Monday night potluck, Friday's chill and grill and the Tuesday evening drift and drink. Good food stores in town with a little shop right at the marina. Much better than Bimini.

The island has a nice remote feeling to it with very little modern development. The best beach I have ever seen. The locals are the most friendly and beautiful folks I have ever encountered in the Bahamas.

I highly recommend a stop here. You will not be disappointed.

Best Marina Staff Ever!, 2015-03-06
Captain: , Key West, FL (150)

We also have visited many many marinas over the years, but, without question, Great Harbor Cay Marina has the best staff we have ever encountered. Hans, Meko, Kimberley, Samantha, and all the rest go above and beyond to make their guests at home. they arrange fun, pot-lucks, parties, bocce ball games, and many other things to make your stay the best. Hans is willing to take guests in his truck if necessary. Meko's smile and daily jokes are a welcome bonus every day. We stayed here for 3 weeks due to engine trouble and enjoyed every minute of it. They actually deserve 6 stars!

Outstanding Bahamian Destination, 2015-03-03
Captain: , LOPEZ ISLAND (70)

We have visited many places in the Bahamas and this is the best, primarily due to Hans the Manager and his staff; and the location. Terrific 7 mile beach nearby, many good snorkeling/fishing spots within dingy reach. Very friendly, small marina with many social opportunities. We were lucky to be here when the Active Captain crew were in port and they made it all the better!

Terrific destination, 2015-03-01
Captain: , Las Vegas (322)

The friendliness is contagious. Hans and his staff along with the locals make this place very warm and friendly. We were amazed at the activities and the turnout by the boaters and the locals.

Terrific facility that is constantly being cleaned and updated. With continued support from the boaters the activities will evolve and work out the kinks. Specifically Friday night Chill and Grill needs work on coordination. Took us almost 3 hours to get our dinner. Suggest caution with the rental cars from adjacent vendor as they are borderline safe.

Bottom line - we LOVE it and will be back.

Wonderful place to hangout for awhile, 2015-02-25

Hans and his crew are awesome. We were stuck there waiting for parts. Hans was amazing in helping us get two little packages of important parts, which is not an easy task in the Bahamas.
The are always activities organized for the cruisers. The bathrooms are always spotless. Beautiful beaches and good snorkeling spots are nearby.

Top shelf service and protection, 2015-02-17
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (435)

We made our first stay here recently and were extremely pleased with the high level of service Hans and his staff provide. They clearly appreciate the cruisers who stay there and go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. Plus the marina sits in one of the most protected hurricane holes I've seen in the Bahamas.
For a great meal, visit the CarrieEarl Inn, right on the ocean and a short ride from the marina.

Captain: , Pungoteague, VA (272)

We stopped here for a week, waiting for weather. Hans and the staff are friendly and helpful. I didn't like the food at the Friday Chill and Grill, but it's nice that they organize it. Monday is Pot Luck dinner, which is better food and is nice for getting together with other cruisers. Today, Tuesday, there was a jewelry class in the morning and ptonk (a bocce-like game) in the afternoon. Lovely island, clean showers and laundry (albeit at $10 a load) add more reasons to be here.

Clean Facility and Wonderful Staff, 2015-02-06

The bathrooms were always spotless and Trameco, Hans and Kimberly went above and beyond to arrange events for cruisers. Free wifi. Wash $5 and dry $5 but the machines were clean and worked great! Locals were the friendliness in all the Bahamas!

Great place to be held up, 2015-02-06
Captain: , Anna Maria Island (573)

Well we for sure did not plan on spending 10 days here but not one minute of that were we bored! Hans and Crew give 200% seriously to make sure you have everything you could possibly need. They even plan events for those held up with weather. Shared those secret snorklel, fishing, kayak & beyond spots. Planned BBQ's even on Mothers Day hand deilvered flowers with a handmade card to each boat. We Loved our stay there and without a doubt consider many of the folks we met on the island friends. We look forward to seeing them again when we return. If your considering passing by Great Harbour at least stop in on your return trip you won't be disapointed.

Best Hurricane Hole in the Bahamas, 2015-01-28
Captain: , Summerville (10)

We stayed in GHCM for a week in March 2012 and really enjoyed our stay there. The marina staff was extremely helpful and services quite good although WIFI was spotty at the time. We enjoyed the friendly welcome by the local residents as well whith whom we had drinks at the Rocky Hill Pool Club and fun "extreme petanque" games at the Beach club by the airport. And do not worry too much about the tight cut to get in: we were docked next to a super motor yacht which must have been over 100' long which turned out to be Jack Nicholson's yacht! If that yacht could make it you should be able to make it to!

more than a Great Harbour, 2015-01-27
Captain: , LaHave, Nova Scotia (10)

A broken shroud and bent mast kept us 'captive' in GHCM for two weeks. We were so lucky to have had this misfortune happen here with Hans and his very capable staff on hand. From the initial offer of a towboat to facilitating the arrival our our replacement shroud by air, they were helpful and supportive to our predicament.
Hans also took us to Bullocks Harbour to take delivery of our new outboard from Nassau.
During our stay we enjoyed a Marina BBQ hosted by a local couple and meals at the Beach Club.
We were also given a ride to the BTC office to get our phone/internet service set up.
Staying for Christmas Day added other treats, homemade coconut/rum cake and a gift certificate to all the boats at the marina.
This marina is definitely a good place to clear customs, as they come right to your boat on arrival.
Clean, orderly and well maintained we more than recommend a stay here. It is a great introduction to the Bahamas

Customer Service +, 2015-01-21
Captain: , Toronto (10)

What sets this marina apart from any other I've been in is the customer service. Hans and his staff exceed my expectations for good customer service and they do it consistently (my 2nd year here).
The marina is great, washrooms are always clean and open and there is also a well maintained laundry facility. There is always something going on socially to engage guests who are so inclined (e.g. Friday nite "Chill & Grill) and the beaches are right out of a travel brochure.

We have left Griffin in Great Harbour Cay Marina for the whole summer of 2014.
We have asked Hans, the Dock Master to look after our boat with special attention.
When we came back after 6 months, the boat was in pristine condition, so Hans and his team did really proved to be trustworthy and responsible
We have stayed in the marina about a week before leaving and few days when coming back. The marina is always kept very clean and tidy and constant improvements are ongoing. Hans and his staff are friendly and very helpful.
We are recommending this marina to anyone and we definitely will be back.

An absolutely great marina. We arrived in late July after 2 months in the Abacos, and it turned out to be our safe harbor for TS Bertha and Cristobel. The dock master, Hans, and his staff are truly a cut above any of the marinas we have visited during our cruise. We would leave to explore other areas in the Berry Islands, then return when we saw that the tropical weather forecasts were not looking good. We were always welcomed back like returning family. It is hard to add to the already glowing reviews of GHCM. The internet service is very good (and free), it is a great hurricane hole, the free water for washing down the boat is a gift to salty sailors and the RO water that can be purchased is the best we have used. Great Harbor is an orchid in a rose garden !

Our 6' draft encountered no problems coming in at low tide, and the manager said the charts do not accurately reflect the deepness of the approaches to the marina. The staff was friendly and courteous, and we visitors felt welcome in this beautiful cay. The rate was reasonable. Excellent wifi during a 2 day stay. Showers, while not resort level, were clean and attractive. The onsite restaurant made delicious conch burgers and cracked conch. And the beaches, a long walk away and worth renting a cart for (we did both), were glorious -- probably the prettiest we've seen in the Near Bahamas. You can dinghy to the beach too via the cut out to Shark Creek. We easily found the local grocery store and the package store to replenish some supplies. If we had not been on a deadline for appointments in the States, we could have settled in here for a couple of weeks. Next time!

Great Harbour Marina, 2014-07-17
Captain: , Sarasota, FL (37)

My first experience with this marine was during a time there was a manually operated bridge at the entrance from the channel. The local kids opened the bridge to gain entrance to a basically out of business marina. In the early 1990's I began flying into the airport and Elan Rolle ran the services at the marina. The bridge was gone and entry from the channel was easy and unobstructed. The marina was operational but had limited services. Elan rented cars, boats and motorbikes. He ran a small store adjacent to the marina.

I visited again in 2011 and found the marina open and doing well. The water in the marina was polluted. It was much more fun to anchor on the East side of the Berrys and enjoy a clean and basically empty beach. We could land the dinghy on the beach and walk to the marina in 5 minutes. The anchorage was 6-7' deep 100 yards from the beach.
There was and may still be a beach tiki restaurant that was open for breakfast and lunch serving locals and cruising folks. This part of the Berry's is still relatively un developed except for some private homes and a condo that has some rentals and some fulltime local residents.
I spent many a night in the condo rented from Elan Rolle and his wife.
I enjoyed my time in the Berry's and they deserve your exploring as it has lots of interesting anchorages such as Alder Cay, and Bertram Cay at the very end. Watch out for the cruise ships. They have built a lot of infrastructure to support the tourits on the cruise ships describing Bertram Cay as quote; "their private island".
The Berry's are a favorite spot for us when cruising the Bahamas. There numerous anchorages and basically virgin coral reefs that would take you months to explore.
I am not up to date on Chub Cay. It has a nice facility with floating docks but outrageously expensive dockage with electric and RO water.
It is my understanding a new management group has taken over Great Harbour Marina with an eye to cleaning up the marina and adding additional amenities. They could make this a truly wonderful facility as it has a natural beauty not found often. I am happy to see a trip is being planned by Active Captain to the "forgotten Great Harbor Marina".

You will find this marina is one of the best hurricane holes in the Bahamas. The docks are strong and would be a safe haven in a blow.

The Berry's are a special spot in our cruising itinerary. Don't be afraid to make the trip it is easy, safe and fun.

We also like the Exumas especially Warderick Wells, Normans Cay, Highbourne Cay and of course Staniel Cay. Don't miss Piggy Beach.

My wife and I have cruised Offline by ourselves and have enjoyed every moment in the Bahamas.

One last tip. Don't make the passage from Florida to the Bahamas when the wind is from the North over 10-15 knots. It will be memorable. Once in the Bahamas cruising is easy with clear water and generally good weather.

Happy Cruising!!

Great Harbour Cay Marina has the friendliest and most helpful staff, led by Hans who gave us a lift to the beach and took me shopping in town. He was very helpful with loads of information as well. The marina is nice and quiet and the pool bar has some great grilled food. It's only going to get better so, weather permitting, we will be back later on!

Nice protected facility with restaurant, 2014-06-13
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale, FL (110)

Great rates, although metered electric is a bit expensive. Only run as many AC units as you need. There is a restaurant onsite (outdoor seating). They will also give you a ride over to the Beach Club across the island and pick you up when ready to head back to the marina. Kimberly and Hans were very friendly and helpful. The free bag of ice when you mention Active Captain was nice. The marina is the most protected as any seen so far in the Bahamas. Deep inside the harbor. Navigation was easy enough getting in and out.

Great point of entry, 2014-06-03
Captain: , Orlando (224)

Customs and Immigration
We cleared customs into the Bahamas at Great Harbour Marina in early May 2014. The marina staff called the local officials who came to our boat and filled out paperwork and reviewed passports in the salon. They were courteous, efficient and professional. Could not have been easier.

Marina staff
The staff could not have been any more helpful, starting with Ramone who helped us get tied up upon arrival, to Samantha (?) that helped us arrange to have a part for our AC flown in to the island on the next day%u2019s flight. On Mother%u2019s Day an arrangement of flowers was brought to each boat with a nice %u201DHappy Mother%u2019s Day%u201D message attached%u2026 completely unexpected. Hans (the island manager) stayed up all night in the office when they had an issue with the security cameras at the dock, rather than leave things unattended. All of this shows that they cared about doing a good job.

The power and internet was great. The free water was local well water and caused water spots if not dried off immediately. The RO water was good. The docks are in decent shape, not new but fairly well maintained. The marina is very well protected from all directions in a blow. Access is easy. There is a simple store on the dock that also provides car and golf cart rental.

Bar and pool area
The hill top bar is run as a separate enterprise than the marina. The pool is salt water and looks a bit funky. The lunch we had upon arrival was decent but unremarkable. As an alternative to the restaurant, Chester is typically found on the dock making up conch cevechi%u2026 very good.

The town and people
There was a party at the restaurant on Saturday night which drew the locals (a wedding party of some sort). We sat on the back deck and waived at every person, walking and driving, that went by. Friendly vibe. The town is a mile or so away and is fairly well run down, similar to almost every Bahamas town.

Captain: , Beaufort, NC (10)

The only reason I didn't give this a 5 star rating is because sometimes, emphasis on sometimes, wifi is not as strong as it should be. It always works though. Other than that, when we were forced by wind/seas to sit out an interlude here we found this to be one of the most accommodating marinas in our 17 years of cruising, a deal at $1/foot. Hans and his staff were bend over backwards nice. Clean showers, good laundry facility, activities on the dock and plenty of local information. Sorry, but the guidebooks just make the Berry's sound quaint. Hans and his staff put you in touch with local attractions and local services. For instance, should you too wish to use the cruise line services available at nearby Great Stirrup Cay... You can do it from the marina. It is obvious this marina is re-building and doing all it can to attract new business. We wish it the best. Also, know that it is a hurricane hole if weather threatens.

Wel protected and good value, 2014-05-15
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (552)

The location is a bit "out of the way" but that isn't that what the Bahamas are all about? The entrance thru a man made cut is impressive and this would be a great place to sit out a storm. The marina and facilities are in great shape and the manager Hans is a good guy. The associated pool/restaurant is rather run down and we did not find anywhere in the area to eat out. There is a good beach with fun "beach club bar" within bicycle distance. And you cannot beat $1.00 a foot.

Hans and his entire staff go out of their way to make you feel at home (thanks Kim for driving me to the Health Clinic for Rx!). And thanks Meko for looking for conch!

Marina has excellent and free WiFi and free non potable water. Our electric bill for five days was $60 (incl a few days using only our solar).

And we had a nice "celebrity siting" as "Sea Bear" docked next to us!

We changed directions and headed to Great Harbor instead of Chub Cay from Bimini and are glad we did. We anchored off Great Harbor for a night before pulling into the incredibly protected harbor. Hans the manager greeted us and helped with the lines. Ended staying several nights to explore the island. The beach to the east is a must see. The bike ride out to the caves is fun but plan on low tide visit. $1/foot for our stay. Electric reasonable and RO water thru a blue light is .50/gallon.
Will absolutely return.

This was our first visit to Great Harbor Cay and the Great Harbor Cay Marina was a welcomed oasis and the perfect hole to hide from the big blow. We hardly moved as the storm raged around us. The staff was wonderful, the prices more than reasonable, the bathrooms clean, the docks well maintained and improvements happening on a continous basis. During our dinking around we saw shark, turtles, rays and scads of fish. The resident manatee paid a visiit and put on quite a show. I would highly recommend this marina to all you boaters out there.

Best Decision Yet!!, 2014-03-06
Captain: , Santa Cruz, CA (150)

We had an awful night on the banks from Bimini. And the following day this place saved us. Friendly staff, help with everything. Mecos helped fill our two gallon water bottles with fresh coconut water. (He showed me how to get them/open etc... He showed us how to catch fish from the dock with fresh conch leftovers.
Getting to town...we'll you can try to walk the 20 minute stroll. Chances are you will get picked up by a passing car before you get there. Has happened to us EVERY time. Beach...awesome have it to yourself beach ten minute walk down the road. Bar/restaurant...real far away-maybe a twenty second walk from the marina office. Bathrooms...cleanest yet. As in I doubt we find cleaner ones the rest of this cruise. Place is great. Don't come here looking for wild parties and craziness, that's not here. Come here for a safe, protected marina that is like a little village.

We visited Great Harbour Cay Marina last year, spent less than a week but promised ourselves we'd stay longer this year. We have been here for more than a month (the monthly rates are very reasonable, make sure to email Hans to get a quote) and have enjoyed it so much we decided we didn't need to visit any other islands this year since all that we dreamed of and needed is found right here.
Great Harbour Cay offers something unique for everyone.. the nicest beaches we have ever visited, secluded islands to visit by dinghy, conching, fishing, snorkelling... Grocery shopping is available in Bullocks Harbour, the mailboat regularly brings in fresh supplies. There are restaurants for the occasional night out, the Rocky Hill Pool Bar is close to the marina, the Beachclub will be re-opening soon and the Carriearl offers fine dining right on the beach. The airport offers easy access from Nassau or Miami (regular flights) you can rent a golf cart to tour the island or simply walk to a 5 mile beach. The island is dog friendly (the marina staff is too!) and we have not seen one stray dog as there is a good spay/neuter program in place, courtesy of local homeowners. Although we have been throughout the Bahamas, including the Exumas, we call this diverse, incredibly beautiful and friendly island, the "jewel of the Bahamas", not reserved only for sportsfishing enthusiasts, as some may think. At the marina, ask for Hans, the manager who has incredible local knowledge and friendly advice. Kimberly will go out of her way to help any way she can (even bringing us local herbs to brew special tea to cure a cold). Meko with his boisterous laugh and incredible smile will greet you, show you how to clean conch, open coconuts... you just need to ask. Ramon, Roberto and Samantha are also great people... so when we need to leave (which is soon, unfortunately) we will miss them all until we get a chance to return next Fall.

This was a great place to clear in earlier this season, although still a little too cool for hanging about in January. Awesome storm / hurricane shelter completely protected by high ground in all directions. It has been well described by others. We will definitely pass this way again.

Nice Marina, People, and Value, 2014-02-12

This was our second visit and we were very pleased once again. The Customs people came to our boat promptly and were very friendly, efficient, and professional. The free wash down water was very welcome after our passage from Ft Lauderdale. We enjoyed excellent cheeseburgers at the Windy Hill Pool Bar. It was a short dinghy ride to Batelco to buy a phone and to the Settlement for light shopping and cold beverages at Coolie Mae's Sunset Bar & Restaurant, a truly pristine venue. At $1/ft this place was hard to leave. We will come back again.

One of our favorite places!, 2014-02-05

We have stayed at Great Harbor Cay Marina 3 times now and have been impressed each time. We echo what Christelle said....the beaches are breathtaking; there are creeks to explore; we hear the fishing is excellent. The staff at the marina go way beyond expectations....even helping with the set up of potlucks and celebrations for boaters. Right on the docks, you can purchase delicious conch salad, bbq, and some necessities. Do no miss this jewel of a marina!

This marina offers excellent protection from bad weather and high winds.
The washrooms are clean and the whole area is well kept with constant improvements taking place.
Fish cleaning station and grounds are kept very clean.

The beauty of this island is only surpassed by the beauty of it's people. The incredible staff at GHC Marina will treat you like family and can not do enough for their guests.

Experience the island by exploring it's gorgeous beaches, catch your own fish and search for conch in the shallow waters on the banks.

There are very good grocery stores in Bullock harbour, take the dingy around to government dock, or it's s short bike ride from the marina.

There are several places to eat but our favourite was "Chill n Grill" every Friday night at the end of the Marina docks where you can enjoy local BBQ for minimal$$. Also keep an eye open for the conch salad maker who will be on the docks from time to time for the best conch in the world!

Be sure and ask the dock staff about beaches, where to go and what to see. You will be amazed by the Cay, it's incredible beauty and it's wonderful people.

If I could, I would give GHC Marina 10stars!! We will be back, till then we will miss our new friends, Kimberly, Hans, Meko, Roberto and Ramon. See you soon!

Great Place to Clear In & Stopover, 2014-01-13
Captain: , Portsmouth, NH (90)

Arrived after a long sail from Biscayne Key this was a great place to clear in and rest. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the marina is totally protected, and they arranged for customs to come to the marina office soon after we arrived; it couldn't be more convenient. A lovely quiet island with an incredible beach just a short walk across to the east shore. It's hard to understand why we were one of a few boats in the marina. Oh, and the off season dockage is $1.20 / ft. , a great deal. Thanks to everyone at the marina office soon

Thank you for a wonderful week! Quiet and peaceful slice of small island Bahama life, with variety shops and a few restaurants within walking distance. Beach on the east side is one of the most beautiful beaches. Marina staff are helpful and friendly. Can't forget the hogfish from Herbert either!

Lacks near by stores and resturants. Great beaches a short walk to the east.

VERY protected with a great staff, 2013-05-10
Captain: , Pines Lake, NJ (451)

We moved inside the harbour to the marina from the anchorage to avoid the strong storms that did not come in the end. The marina is nice and the staff is very helpful. It has fixed docs with power and water. There is a fresh water connection that isnt drinking water that allows for free boat wash down. Be sure to make the short walk to the east side of the cay to one of the best beaches we have been to with very good snorkling near the entrance to shark river. Rent a car or cart to go to the caves at Sugar Beach at low tide. This is one of the most protected harbours/marinas in the Bahamas for stron storms.

Friendly dock master, decent price. Clearing we asked for and got 120 days. Walked over to the Batelco office to get SIM cards.

Nice marina but Customs Officer needs attitude adjustment, 2013-03-05
Captain: , Stuart, FL (426)

Nice Marina with very nice people. The Cutoms Officer was handing out 30 day cruising prmits while we were there. We managed to get 60 by pleading, the shortest we've ever been offered in the Bahanas. Also, there does not seem to be much to do here, although we didn't spend any time. We won't be back.

Nice Marina, 2013-01-05
Captain: , Patuxent River, MD (198)

Although we anchored out, came in twice to use the free wi-fi, take trash off the boat (no charge), no fee for dingy tie up, transient fee 1.50/foot, 6.15/gal for diesel, friendly staff.

Great stopover and probably more, 2012-07-08
Captain: , ft myers beach (790)

Had we not wanted to join some friends in Bimini, we would have stayed awhile. Nice docks, but heads pretty shabby. They sure want you to stay, but we did not. The old Rat Pack resort was a nice walk and fun to explore, watch out for nails. Fuel dock is on south side just after pass thru. Rest along the dolphins when tying up.

Decent stopover location, 2012-06-29
Captain: , Sunny Isles Beach (99)

Stopped here in June for 7 nights on our way home and will definitely return. Actually saw some maintenance being done on the docks while there, and showers have been redone recently. Still a long way to go to get five stars from us, but its above average for the Bahamas. The beach on the east side of the island is worth the trip, if you walk someone is bound to come along in a golf cart and offer you a ride, and the bartender gave us a ride back to the marina. The red channel marker just past the fuel dock is under water most of the time, sometimes it was marked by a buoy and sometimes not; just be careful and favor the green marker as you make your right turn here.

Great Place, 2012-05-31
Captain: , Sarasota, FL (121)

Wonderful place to get welcomed in the Bahamas. Took advantage of info from earlier post to clear customs here. could not have been simpler; got paperwork from dock master and they had customs person there from the airport as we finished. Showers have been refurbished since last visit (2010) but still lack air conditioning. Pool looks better/cleaner and the bar was pretty full. Unfortunately, power went out just as we sat down so we ended up eating on the boat.
Did a little walking around the island and found everyone as friendly and helpful as could be. Will certainly be back.

Ditto to Other Reviews, 2012-05-06
Captain: , Boothbay Harbor, Maine (310)

Agree with all the previous positive comments. Very nice facility and has to be one of the best hurrican holes in the Bahamas. One navigation note - after entering the very narrow channel we went thru the markers (red marker visible but slightly submerged), we were completely unable to see the marina. But you do see a long blue and white motel type building off to your port side after making the right turn thru the markers. The marina is behind this but you cannot see any slips from where you are in the center of the channel. Proceed towards the blue and white building (actually boat/condo suites) and you will then start to see the entrance to the marina on the left. We were not alone in this confusion.

An unpolished gem, 2012-04-14
Captain: , Terra Ceia, FL (91)

It is a shame that so many cruisers have overlooked this cay and marina. In many ways this place is perfectly positioned for the runs to and from the U.S. Last year we stayed for one night, but this year we are spending several days here...there is much more to see on this cay than meets the eye. This is a very protected marina with good access: over the last two years we brought two differnt boats with 6'6" draft into the marina at low tide, and there was still 1'+ under the keel. Great staff. Docks older but serviceable. Gas and diesel available at a good deepwater dock which is to starboard as you enter the channel (just past the Batelco tower). This is the only place on the island for either boats or vehicles to purchase fuel, so the turnover is good. As of today's date, diesel and gas were both around $6.40/gal. About two miles from the marina, in the authentic Bahamian settlement of Bullock's Harbor, is a very good restaurant - "Cooliemae's"- clean and reasonably priced.

The outermost pole marker (at the Bullock's Harbor waypoint) is missing, as is the one closest to shore. Some of the inner harbor markers are also missing, but the Explorer charts are reliable.

Captain: , Wilmington, DE (121)

Lovely, friendly marina (the rate is now $1.50 per foot, unfortunately). About a 2-mile walk or bike ride to a spectacular beach. Showers look new, and although we lost power a couple times, everything else (including WIFI) worked great. We have an extender so got it at our boat - others seemed to camp out with laptops outside the office.

A Very Protected Marina, 2012-02-11
Captain: , prospect, ky (415)

We stayed here one night and found the docks to be in good shape, the staff was very friendly, the showers were clean and hot. One bar and one restaurant 1/2 blk away. Watched the Super Bowl at the restaurant and all the locals were very friendly. Like most marinas in the Bahamas the docks were not very full.

Great Place to Clear-in, 2012-01-14
Captain: , Essex, CT (1245)

As our first crossing, we were a little reluctant attempting to clear-in at not one of the "chosen" recommended clear-in locations, but it couldn't have been easier! One docked, we were handed the customs paperwork to complete & told to stop up at the dock office when done. Customs from the airport was then summoned & arrived in 20 minutes. 10 minutes later, we were done & given 120 days, without even asking!

The marina itself was o.k., but needs some work. Completely protected.

Great place to be, 2012-01-02
Captain: , Stuart,Fl (49)

We draw six feet and had no problems getting in, this was our third time in and out which two were on almost low tides. Everyone at the marina is very helpful and have check-in papers ready when you get to the dock and will call customs to come over which never took long for us. If you want fresh conch, lobster or fish there are divers that go out when the weather is nice and are down the dock near the store late aternoon, very reasonable.
Back for the second year to visit all the great people and our favorite beaches. The Marina is very quiet and the bathrooms were update recently and cleaned daily. There are lots of beaches to explore, easy spots to go conching in knee high water and a great resturant in town to have dinner. This place is great but you really need to look around to see the things to do.
The shops at the marina are all closed right now but one small food store and a liquore store and there are places in town to shop for a larger selection food.

Inland marina, 2011-05-18
Captain: , Greenville TX (580)

This is basically an inland marina with a canal cut to allow access to the ocean. It's completely protected and is very nice - concrete docks are a bit of a climb to get in and out of the boat at high or low tide however. Rates are very good ($1.20 /ft). Very friendly people here.

Very considerate staff, 2011-05-01
Captain: , Cincinnati (1810)

Stuck here for 8 days due to weather. Harbour master, Joe, was helpful b/c he knew we could not move. Showers are clean and hot but definitely need some work done to them. There are a lot of empty buildings on premisses and the marina as a whole does need some updateing and maintence. The showers/restrooms are cleaned daily and the premises are kept clean. The staff here overcome a lot of the shortcomings of the plant. It is definitey a protected harbour and worth the stay.

Great Harbour Cay Marina, 2011-02-11
Captain: , Montreal, PQ (141)

Too bad, great harbour, very protected, super friendly people but run down. Showers with see through walls, no locks, no tp. Pool salt water and dirty, with cigarette buts floating, no pool shower. Good food at the restaurant, reasonable rates at the marina, super internet.

We came here to figure out how to get a new anchor. Able to have it flown here from Ft. Lauderdale for $1/lb. Marina most helpful in setting this up.

Docks are good. Facilities are basic but clean.

Good Marina in a Remote Place, 2010-07-01
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (539)

Marina is good. Beaches nearby are 5 star. But you need a golf cart or car to get around. The "town" is really minimal. The natural terrain makes this a good hurricane hole. We were there June 2010.

deep enough for larger boats, easy channel, good protection, good power and decent docks. The marina and part of teh development on the islands are under new management as of early nov 09 and the new manager/dockmaster is very helpful and professional. Two thumbs up! and at 1.20 a foot it's an incredible value.

as of nov 09, they do accept credit cards.

$1.20/ft, metered elec & water, $10 washdown CASH ONLY MARINA. Good food at Pool Bar behind docks, cart for rent to see everything in a day. Good showers and laundry. Couple typical small stores for basic provisions. Fuel available in harbor, diesel $2.85/gal. Busy for out-of-way port, extremely friendly folk.

Captain: , Summerland Key, Florida (188)

Probably the best Hurricane Hole in the Bahamas. A bunch of boats successfully rode out hurricane Andrew in here! The marina is reasonably well maintained. No fuel but there is a fuel dock in the lagoon nearby with both Gas and Diesel. Not a lot of good places to eat or provision. Entrance to the lagoon is cut into a rock wall which is almost impossible to see until you get right on it. Looks shallow, but it's just the super clear water. We've had 8ft+ everytime we've gone in there. The people are very friendly. Bueatiful beach is walking distance on opposite side of island.
