Reviews for Grand Isle Marina
Good marina, getting better, 2016-09-19

With the 2016 acquisition by Safe Harbor Marinas things are looking up for Grand Isle. In the few months they've owned Grand Isle we've already seen some deferred maintainence items get taken care of as well as several improvemnts to the facilities. With the announced re-opening of the on-site restaraunt in 2017 I think Grand Isle is on its way back to the top of the list of Grand Haven area marinas.

For seasonal slip users I don't think you can beat Grand Isle. The dockside parking is amazingly useful, especially with kids. The indoor pool can't be beat on days the weather doesn't cooperate. Once the kids are old enough you can easily bike into Grand Haven as well.

For transients I don't see much appeal for Grand Isle. It's 30 minutes by boat from Grand Haven and if you don't have a bike to ride you will need to involve a cab/uber to get into town. I'd shoot for the municipal marina and/or the Wharf if you want access to downtown. Or grab a spot on the wall if the weather cooperates.

The service department at Grand Isle is outstanding. You can also bike to a West Marine store.

Gas is overpriced but easy to access with very friendly attendants.

I look forward to future years at Grand Isle. There is a reason it was fully rented in 2016. Things are looking up.

Nice but pricey, 2014-07-01

Since the moment my boat arrived at Grand Isle, they have gone above and beyond my expectations. It's evident they have a how can we help you attitude.
The amenities are 1st class and kept clean.
Grand Isle is a facility that sets the standard for other marinas. We're happy to call it our family vacation destination!

Not worth the trip, 2012-04-05

A long way down the river for transients. Nice facility but pricey.

Good option for locals but too far up the river for transient boaters, 2011-10-28

Grand Isle certainly has all the service capabilities including the largest Travelift on Lake Michigan but our preference is North Shore Marina which is located just inside the breakwall and close to the beach.

Best Marina Option in Grand Haven, 2011-09-05
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4015)

When the Municipal Marina told us they were full (tho not true as they had 10 empty slips that night) we had to find another option. Our choice of Grand Isle turned out to be a good decision. They are not really set up for transients, but they have good docks, secure area, good electricity, trees and park-like atmosphere, new and clean showers, great and helpful people on the seasonal boats, and calm, smooth waters. Town is a bit of a walk or a short bike ride away. The Municipal Marina is very rocky from the swells coming in from the lake and the many, many boats that cruise by. And, when the lake gets bad and the swells are the biggest in the marina, the no wake zone rule is lifted and boats come by at 25 knots. The Holiday Isle Marina is at the Holiday Inn, which has live outdoor music late into the night with muscians who make up for their lack of talent with powerful amplifiers. Grand Isle's prices are too high, but we felt the extra money was a good investment.

Grand Isle, disappointed, 2011-02-14
Captain: , Grand Haven (100)

For the size of the marina, one would expect great things, however, prices seem high for the slips, docks could be better kept, and the staff as a whole have lots of room for improvement, overall a disappointing stop

For people who like to pay for things, 2009-02-08
Captain: , Whitehall, Mi (1754)

If you want to pay for everything done on your boat this is a good place. If you like to do maintenance or other work on your boat, forget it.

It's a long no wake ride out to the big lake.

Worst Marina on the Loop, 2008-09-10
Captain: , New Orleans (118)

After telling the manina attendant we draw 6 ft., we followed her specific instructions on approaching the marina, and ran solid aground. Backed off, and tried her second instructions, ran solid
aground. Finally, we made it in and were instructed to pull in to slip # 4. We did and secured all lines for the evening. After signing in at the office, she then instructed us to move to our slip. I said we were already in it and she said that was only to sign up and we would have to move. Said this was their normal procedure: ie, come into a slip near the office, then they move you to another slip. This involves docking and un-docking a 65 foot boat with a current and wind. When I questioned her on this, I was told "this is our policy".
While bowing in to our "real slip", #292, we had a good cross wind and lightly bumped the port side of the boat amidships on the corner of the floating dock. It was not padded and the sharp exposed steel frame made a 2 foot scratch through the paint. When I asked the General Manager, Carl ? (he would not give me has last name) the next day, he refused to do anything about it. He then proceeded to tell me that my reservation ended at noon and I would have to leave - or he would call the police!! A couple of other nice things about this charming place - the finger pier to our slip was covered with bird shit and
spider webs. It is nowhere near the town of Grand Haven, no transportation, and it cost $2.50 per foot, the highest dockage we had experienced since NYC. And to top it all off, the Gen Mgr, Carl ?? is a super jerk of the highest order, this being my opion and that of other tenants we spoke with. If there were a rating below one star (ie, "zero" or "negative") this marina earns it.
