Reviews for Grand Bahama Yacht Club
best sservice ever, 2017-07-27
Captain: , Marina Del Rey Ca USA (30)

Fabian is fantastic will do anything for you. Pool back in servicd and free shuttle to town. We draw 4 1/2 feet and came in at low tide no problem
at sunset comming in and departing at sunrise. Charge flat fee for water and power. Was $ 218.00 per night for 63 foot boat

Great Stay, 2017-05-07
Captain: , Clubfoot Creek, NC (61)

OK, they are still coming back after Hurricane MATTHEW, but the service was EXCELLANT. The dockmaster Fabian was a BIG help and we will return to this marina just because of Fabian!

Mathew's effect still quite evident, 2017-04-23
Captain: , Boston (140)

Lots of damage all around from Mathew (seven months ago). Most buildings (including restaruant) are still empty/closed, many with significant roof damage. Uprooted trees all around.
The staff is very friendly and the docks that have been commissioned seem very good. Have to ride a ferry to the restaurant hub but it goes often and is only $3.

The official website of the yacht club makes no mention of the facilities still being closed. Poor marks for that.

They are now charging $2/foot which is fine + $0.60/kwh for electricity. Water is included (apparently unlimited and drinkable).

Better than expected , 2017-03-01
Captain: , Marco Island (242)

Stayed here 4 nights Feb 27, 2017. $1.50 a foot. $10/day water. Electric metered. Fabian the dock master is excellent. Pool is very nice. Concrete docks good. Recovered from the Hurricane The pool bar is not open as of yet. Not enough people to support it. Diesel price $3.83. I will come back

GBYC Review 2017, 2017-02-09
Captain: , Port Dalhousie (20)

We intended to stay at GBYC for a month to take advantage of the great monthly rate and to relax after working hard to get our boat ready for this season's cruising. However, we ended up staying two months and now intend to return later in the season, due to the hospitality and service provided by the entire staff and management. Christmas and Super Bowl parties at the pool area, a nearby golf course, and organized trips to special events all added to our enjoyment of this secure and sheltered marina.

Great place to stop on your way to the Berries, 2016-12-17
Captain: , Kingston (72)

The place has excellent docking facilities, a nice pool, excellent wifi service, a water taxi that will bring you on demand to the Port Lucaya Marketplace, clean toilets, one washing machine and two dryers (others were being repaired), and Erin at the dock is always there to help you out with a dock. You can also BBQ on your boat, They have done a lot to recover from Matthews. I would definitely come back.

Wonderful Marina for Short or Long Term Stay, 2016-12-17
Captain: , Goderich, ON (10)

The Grand Bahama Yacht Club is now rapidly recovering from Hurricane Matthew. Trees have been replanted, yards manicured, the pool has been drained, repainted and is ready to enjoy. The washrooms are well kept, the laundry facilities reasonably priced at $1.50 per wash and $2.50 per dry.
If you are travelling further south in the Bahamas this is a great stop to check in wiith Customs and Immigration and enjoy a quiet stay before moving on. The dock masters, Fabian and Aaron willl ensure that you enjoy your brief stay and get good weather advice as to when to move on.
But if you have travelled the Bahamas and realized that there is most everything to be found elsewhere right here ask for a long term rate and be pleasantly surprised. Settle in and enjoy the Bahamas while having the avaiilability of most anything you can find in the United States via a quick bus ride to Freeport.
There are beautiful beaches with snorkelling and scuba diving opportunities, both private and commerciial. UNEXSO offers opportunities to dive / swim with dolphins.
The Marketplace offers both casual and fine dining with the Flying Fish Restaurant having recently been rated the 58th best restaurant in the world and the second best in the Caribbean.
When the marina occupancy rate is good the pool bar/restaurant operates and provides reasonably priced drinks and meals on site.
Solomons grocery store is within walking diistance and is a well stocked and reasonably priced grocery store. The Yacht Club alsio provides transport to the store weekday afternoons uppn request.
The marina staff are incredible, and the owners, Preben and Gabriella Olesen are charming, friendly, and wonderfully accomodating and responsive to anything you might need.
The Yacht Club and the Port Lucaya Marina are both owned by the Olsens and offer a very different experience. The Port Lucaya Marina has similarily wonderfuil staff and is in the heart of the Lucaya Market Square where you can step off your boat with quick access to the market shops and entertainment. This is the spot for you if you llike to be where the action is. On the other hand the Grand Bahama Yacht Club offers quiet solitude with routine ferry service to the Market Square on demand during business hours. You may also chose to take your dinghy from the Yacht Club to the Port Lucaya Marina, a five minute ride, and tie up at the dnghy dock. Depending on your preference we suggest you give either the Port Lucaya Marina or the Grand Bahama Yacht Club a try .... both offer excellent wifi ... you will not be disappointed!

Nice Hideout, 2016-12-09
Captain: , Miami (70)

First, the marina suffered Matthew damage and is still recovering ... slowly.
Arrived at Bell Channel on the afternoon of 12/8/2016 and hailed them on VHF16. Response was immediate. The channel is well marked although the red/green markers are faded. Having GPS is very helpful. Dockmaster guided us into our slip without issue. The depth is adequate as we saw nothing less than 10' and typically 20' or better. Marina does have gas and diesel. I would consider this marina a pretty well protected marina as tide and current issues are virtually non existant. Of note, this is NOT a marina to clear customs/immigration regardless of what the books say. They will however transport you via their shuttle boat to the customs/immigration office, and then pick you up when done. Dockmaster is friendly and very competent. To note: there is a $10 daily charge for water .... cannot decline. As mentioned, this marina has been damaged by Matthew and it shows. Almost half of the slips are not useable. Also note that the dock are not floating docks and are very short. I have a 40 foot long catamaran and would estimate that the docks are only about 20 feet long at best, so be prepared. There is a pool here that can be used, as well as laundry facilities. There are 1 washers and 2 dryers currently working. The bathroom facilities (men's) has 3 showers, 1 urinal, and 2 commodes, and they need a remodel as they look very used and old. However, they were clean and useable. Power on the docks was not an issue. Also, there is no restraurant on site. In fact, there is nothing here. The Lucayan Marketplace is a short 5 minute dinghy ride, or 45 minute walk from this marina. The marina does provide a boat shuttle to the Marketplace. I would have given this marina 2 stars because there is really nothing here .... no restraurant, no marketpalce, no store, no customs/immigration. And then I would give this marina 4 stars because it is clean, the staff is friendly, marina has easy access in, and is a bad weather haven. So, that averages to 3 stars.

Still hurting after Matthew, 2016-11-16
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (10)

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Electrical was great but the entire property still needs to be cleaned up and street lights repaired. We ate at the marketplace and things were fine there.

Nobody on the dock., 2016-06-07
Captain: , Apponaug R.I. (908)

Called the phone number(no answer). Called on VHF , no response. Tied up ourselves. ZERO internet. It is now owned by Pt Lucaya Marina.

First Visit to GBYC, 2016-06-03
Captain: , Ponte Vedra Beach (60)

Very friendly, clean and comfortable marina. Fabian was a great help settling in and clearing customs. The owner, Mr. Olsen, even gave me a lift to BTC to sort out phone, now that is service with a smile!

A Great Place to Relax, 2016-05-28
Captain: , Corpus Christi, TX (106)

We spend a week at Grand Bahama Yacht Club and had a very relaxing week. We took the ferry to the market place and enjoyed to restaurants and music, but then went back to the Yacht Club to relax at the pool and enjoy the well maintained grounds. The laundry and bathroom facilities were always very clean and neat. Fabian, the dock master, treated us like family. His infectious laugh made everyone smile and feel at home. He brightened up everyone%u2019s day with his presence. The other staff members were always helpful and very friendly.

First trip to GBYC and we'll be back!, 2016-05-01
Captain: , St. Thomas (90)

MV StephanieM

Very protected Marina with lots of places to explore with our tender. Fabian greeted us with a big smile and helped us get settled. Enjoyed the pool, got a ride to the Solomon's Market, great dinner at Flying Fish Restaurant (we took our tender as they have a floating dock), and did our laundry (3 working washers and 1 dryer). The entire Marina and surrounding grounds are very well maintained.

Great marina, poor restaurant, 2016-04-20
Captain: , Salcombe, UK (170)

Fabian welcomed us like old friends although this was our first visit. The warmth of the welcome, the quality of the docks, the service from Fabian, Aaron and Pamela made this place special. The only negative was poor restaurant service where all our meals arrived at different times and one didn't arrive at all. We shall return.

quiet pleasant marina, 2016-03-20
Captain: , Hampton, VA (2573)

Came back after 5 years. Good to see the facility functioning again. Aaron, Fabian, and Pamela are great and very welcoming. Unmetered water @$10 per day is great. Our boat looked like a science fair project with all the salt crystals when we came it. Still very convenient to everything. WinDixie grocery is now a Solomons Grocery which is very good. M-F free busses to the grocery store. Truly hope that GBYC thrives.

Part of a real estate development with residents. Massive concrete piers and deep water. Very pleasant location. Wonderful helpful staff. Not very many slips occuppied.

Bell Channel wasn't fun to enter since it seems very narrow on the approach. Plenty of water.

Winn Dixie short bike ride away.

Port Lucaya a free dinghy ride away if you are desparate for a tourist oriented fix. Seems filled with cruise ship excursions anxious to have their wallets lightened. Nonetheless its pleasant, but get me back on the ferry to Grand Bahama Yacht Club for a cool drink at the pool bar

Great Deal, 2016-01-22
Captain: , Niagara on the Lake Sailing Club (10)

Easy access once your in Bell Channel. Their open underreceivership so the Bar has limited hours right now but quite willing to accomodate you. Food is excellent and reasonable. Docks are beautiful. Premises and restrooms are immaculate. Hottest shower water I've seen in the Bahamas! Call the dockmasters Fabian or Aron on 16 as you enter the channel and they'll help you out. Ask them about the January special and it might carry into February. We were going to stop for only 2 days but will now hang here much longer and will return again.

Great staff, well maintained!, 2015-12-30
Captain: , Severna Park, MD (461)

Bell Channel can be a bit hairy to get into with a following sea, but once inside the stone jetties, it calms down.

We arrived from West End at GBYC's fuel dock after a long motor slog to windward. We were greeted by dockmaster Fabian, whose radiant, fun-loving but thoroughly professional attitude made us feel immediately that we had made the right choice to wait for weather.

Subsequently, we were not disappointed. The marina is well-maintained and Fabian was always ready to help.

We will definitely stop here again!

Grand Bahama Yacht Club, 2015-12-12
Captain: , Leamington, Ontario (710)

Us - 47 foot sailboat, 6' draft....cement, non floating docks, fuel available, GREAT staff. Place really improving daily, restaurant and bar now open at pool. Security on site. Washrooms clean but becoming dated, issues with wi-fi. Very easy to find, water taxi to take you into the village. 20 minute walk to provisioning store. Easy bus ride to Freeport.

A nice place to spend a few days, 2015-07-01
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale (20)

Staff and owner very friendly and helpful. Just reopened 2 months ago. Pool and pool bar nice place. Not many boats in marina. Boat taxi will take you across to shops at marina across harbour and bring you back no charge on hour. Good fuel dock. Lucaya market fun day and night. Casino ther too. Make the trip.

Captain: , Bahamas (11)

Very Much Open For Business, 2015-05-10
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (166)

The GBYC is open, and very welcoming. We were not successful reaching the facility on VHF, but they did answer the phone. This is a large marina, with extensive grounds, a large pool, and a bar. We did not have time to venture outside the gate, but the marina is in the middle of the Lucaya resort area. Prebin and Ryan are helpful and friendly. Current rate is $2.20/ft, $0.60/KWH, $10/day flat rate for water.

No response to radio, phone or email attempts.

No Power Closed, 2012-03-19
Captain: , Sturgeon Bay WI (40)

As of March 15 no power or Internet. No showers. All boats moved to Port Lucaya Marina . This is a great place . When power issues resolved will be a nice stop.

Nice docks and lots of availability, 2012-02-01
Captain: , prospect, ky (415)

I stopped here and had dinner at the bar/restaurant and had a very pleasant experience. Not very many boats here, but nice docks. Limited facilities.

Nice facilities and great Happy Hour!, 2011-12-11
Captain: , Padanaram, MA (259)

Very Nice pool and grounds - volleyball court and good restaurant and Happy Hour 1600-1900 2 for 1 drinks every day. We paid $1.20 a foot and $5 a day for water. Water taxi took us to Lucaya Market and fuel dock (these guys no longer sell fuel - they own the Port Lucaya facility and will take you there to fill Jerry Cans)

Great marina!, 2011-04-21
Captain: , Pulpit Harbor, Maine (20)

We have stayed three times in Grand Bahama Yacht Club. Staff is extremely helpful (arriving crew needed boat documentation at airport and they helped us fax on Sunday) and marina is extremely clean. Convenient laundry, best conch fritters in Bahamas at the bar.
Pool next to restaurant is a nice feature when you've been working on the boat all day. It's a safe place to leave boat for a week or more and easy place to pick up crew.

We found a jewel, 2011-03-28
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (215)

Ended up here because our first choice was full, best thing that could have happened. Went in for a night and stayed for a week. Staff and facilities are first rate. Free water taxi to Port Lucaya runs on demand and the bus to Freeport is $1.25 each way.

Nice facility; very nice staff, 2011-03-12
Captain: , Portsmouth (372)

Stayed one night earlier this week. Docks in good condition. Very helpful and pleasant staff. Business is apparently so slow that the staff is spread pretty thin across the facility but they definitely try to be helpful.

Beautiful Facility, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Hernando Beach, Fl (300)

Great facility with good docks, easy access and very helpful staff. Beautiful resort with all the amenities including water taxi service to the town and market.

Nice facility - quiet and peaceful, 2011-01-06
Captain: , Havre de Grace, MD (299)

We moved over here from Port Lucaya Marina. The intensity and 'busy-ness" level dropped significantly. Showers and heads nicer than Port Lucaya. Lovely grounds, docks in better condition than PLM. 3 nights for the price of 2 special helps!

Convenient, 2009-06-18
Captain: , Bonita Springs (484)

Quieter than Port Lucaya Marina and away from shops etc. Shuttle boat runs regularly.

Great place to stop, 2009-06-03
Captain: , Marathon, FL (1264)

Stayed here for 3 days in June. Very nice docks, great facilities. Water taxi to Port Lucaya makes restaurants and shopping accessible.

First Class Marina, 2007-04-15
Captain: , Tampa (246)

Very Well protected. Dinghy over to Lucaya Bars and Restaurants. Good rates.
