Reviews for Grafton Harbor
A great river stop, 2016-11-28
Captain: , St Louis (320)

The harbor has everything to offer: dockage, restaurant, ice, showers, walking distance to town, fuel, good social life, etc. This is one of the last harbors for loopers, the other one being Alton Marina, before going thru lock/dam 26.

THE BEST STOP, 2016-11-07
Captain: , Manitowoc (266)

We came in with maintenance issues and exhausted. The friendly staff found a local diesel mechanic familiar with our archaic motor (LOL) and he worked on it WITH US, TEACHING US how to maintain it ourselves! Thanks Barry Munsell!!! We figured out fuel system issues, cooling system issues, transmission system issues and throttle control issues and fixed all of them within 2 days!

The staff at Grafton Harbor was ALSO FANTASTIC! Brad in particular was GREAT! He helped us, with the proper test equipment, to determine that we had two bad batteries in our battery bank. We replaced them. He also found problems with our wiring and worked with me on a modest redesign of our wiring. THANKS BRAD!

The Oyster Bar Restuarant was excellent and reasonably priced. The salads we ate were really good!

WiFi was pretty good but when compared to other marina wifi, it rates excellent. Fuel price was OK.

Pump out, when fuel is purchased, cost $7.

If you are doing the loop, Grafton Harbor is a MUST!

Very nice marina, awesome restaurant onsite, 2016-10-19
Captain: , North East, MD (385)

Friendly folks, cute town to walk around. The restaurant and oyster bar was excellent. Nice bath/shower facilities. A great way to end the Illinois River section.

Good Place to stop, 2016-10-03
Captain: , Portsmouth (553)

On site restaurant has good food. Marina has a clean pool. We stayed 4 nights with a buy 3 get one free deal. There was a car show a block away and a large flea market just down the road. I would stay here again.

Great stop, 2016-09-27
Captain: , Bedford, NH (775)

Stayed one night Sept 11. We have a 50' boat with 15' beam and 3.5' draft. Very nice place. Stayed on the T at the end of E dock. Didn't want to be undercover, I love the sun! Very busy place on the weekends. Restaurant was very good. Floating pool is nice. Didn't use the facilites but they are very convenient. Other places to eat across street as well as convenience store. Staff very helpful. No problem with water depth. We only draft 3.5 feet but a 90' yacht went in ahead of us to the next T.

Great Place To Stop, 2016-09-23
Captain: , Canaveral (40)

One of the really good places to stop. The upstairs restaurant is exceptional. Plenty of clean nice showers. Courtesy van to Walmart for $15 fee. Nice pool and hot-tub. Scenic bike trail to Father Marquette State Park (5 miles). Friendly bars and people all around.

Great Marina, 2016-09-14
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (2206)

9-5-16 This is a nice marina, very friendly and helpful staff. They have a courtesy van and floating pool. The food at the restaurant is very good.

Pool, Courtesy Van, Good Rate, 2016-09-06
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2870)

It was a very hot day when we stopped and we got to run the 15 miles to Jerseyville to the Super WalMart with the courtesy van (they ask you put $15 of fuel in when you go that far). With a lot of heavy provisioning out of the way, we hit the pool and enjoyed a wonderful afternoon.

Very Good Marina, 2016-08-29
Captain: , Milwaukee, Wi. (798)

The employees here have been the most out going group I've ever seen. Stay 3 nights, get 4th free, stay 4 nights, get 2 free! Excellent food at the Oyster Bar! Nice General Store with a little of everything. Small town to explore. Gas currently 2.73 a gallon..

A very good marina, 2016-08-20
Captain: , St Louis Missouri (276)

Please read the other reviews. You will see a few naysayers complaining about this or that. The vast majority of the reviews are extremely complimentary. Joe and Jan own and operate the marina and are here 95% of the time. What makes them stand out from other places is how they offer truly great customer service and expect the same from their friendly staff. Long reviews don't get read. Barry

Worth the stop, 2016-08-08
Captain: , Wicomico Church (610)

All services; helpful dock crew; good place before the Mississippi

Great stop, 2015-09-28
Captain: , Atlanta (770)

Stayed nights of 9/24-25/15. Pool, went to Aerie restaurant, which was good, easy to walk around town. Only had one restroom each for men and women.

Great stay highly recommended, 2015-09-25
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

Good protection, pool, hot tub, small store on site, several restaurants nearby, churches within walking distance, ice cream shops, several wineries nearby, courtesy van(12 seat van) you can take To Alton or Jerseyville for shopping.
Joe the Dockmaster is very helpful. Diesel $2.95.
Staff has a good helpful attitude and know what they are doing. Office staff is very helpful, good attitude and will help with local knowledge.

Grafton Marina, 2015-09-14
Captain: , Illinois (2471)

One star for charging $8 .00 to tie up to eat at their restaurant.
The place was built with a huge grant from federal government. I expected better treatment as a taxpayer.

Until dredged, suitable for shallow-draft vessels only, 2015-08-30
Captain: , Iuka, MS (1130)

Gave Marina our boat's draft, but they still took our reservation, confirmed it multiple times, then assigned us to a slip we couldn't even get to. At present, normal Summer pool, there is barely 4' in places along the main fairway paralleling the river, and even less on the fairways to the slips. We ran aground in the entry to our slip and harbormaster Joe had to pull us loose and overnight us at the fuel dock--not a covered slip we had hoped to leave the boat at for an extended stay. Fortunately, it's soft silt that has shoaled in to the basin. Unfortunately, the marina is not dealing with the issue.

love this marina, 2015-08-02
Captain: , Owensboro (40)

we stayed 2 nights. they put us in a covered dock on F dock. friendly staff, friendly people. the kids loved the pool! clean shower suites and nice laundry. highly recommend!

beware of crazy parking fees, 2014-12-29
Captain: , Saint Charles (669)

Outrageous parking fees, we stopped here with 3 jet skis to eat at there restaurant, we were charged $20 each to all park in one slip. $60.00 to park and patronize there restaurant. They told us we would each get a $10.00 Credit for our food but when we tried to get this credit the restaurant said no only $10.00 credit total for the three of us. So 3 burgers 3 pops and 20 min parking total cost almost $100.00 this is a good place to skip.

Great Planned Stop, 2014-10-20
Captain: , Green Cove Springs FL (1394)

We returned 10-16-14 as Alton Marina had low water and only about 5 ft in their marina. Our draft 5 ft. Mel Price Lock dropped water level and Alton was like the bathtub drain per telcon with their harbor Master Doug Brown. Grafton graciously put us back on our previous space. We will depart for Hoppies when we get a good report from Fern at her location. Hoppies is at Imperial, MO. on Active Capt Marina List. We were at Grafton from 10-9-14 and left 10-20-14. On the end of B-Dock (T-Head) You tie off on padded vertical supports on end of covered dock. Our 5 ft draft stirred up mud, but they own a dredge and are planning to dredge next week. Had no draft issues the entire time we where here. Friendly local B-Dock tennants. Very nice amenities. Brad and Dennis received lines and we used Marina as a base of operations for sight seeing in St Louis. Enterprise Alton came to Grafton. Call ahead for car rerservations. We waited two days for one, they had none. Visited St. Louis Arch, Anhauser Busch Plant, Went to Beer School. Lunch at Fast Eddies in Alton is a Restaraunt with local character dont miss it. Tour of Mel Price Lock and Dam. Waited out bad rain storms before leaving for Alton Marina 22 miles down river and close to dam so we could get an early start down river the next day for Hoppies. Lots of floating debris in river keep a watchful eye. AGLCA Harbor Host Grafton IL, Andy Jackson Jr. 618-222-9000 lives two blocks from marina and came to visit. Capt Helen and Chief Engr Bob Onboard ALLEZ! AGLCA, MTOA, USPS, WRCC, USCG-ARC

Diesel stop, 2014-10-08
Captain: , Detroit (30)

We stopped here to re-fuel and do some provisioning. We were able to purchase some provisions in marina store and were allowed to use the a courtesy van to pick up bread and snacks at the nearby BP Station. We will definitely stop here again for a longer stay.

Great stop, 2014-09-24
Captain: , little current (272)

We stayed here for two days and were overwhelmed by the friendly and helpful staff. Facilities were clean and well maintained. I highly recommend this facility.

Great Place, 2014-09-22
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach, FL (361)

Totally agree with previous posts, a great place.
We also were here ten days waiting for flood waters and debris to subside.
They also have a pool and hot tub although the weather wasn't conducive to using them.
Will definately stay here again when in the area.

Great Marina, 2014-09-22
Captain: , Massapequa,NY (1176)

Great stop, friendly staff, cheap fuel, several restaurants & winery near. Marina store sells liquor.

Wonderful Place, 2014-09-22
Captain: , Tarpon Springs (983)

Apart from the courtesy van, wine, facilities and friendly staff I was impressed at how they managed to accommodate those forced in to stay while the floods abated. It was a great effort and most appreciated I am sure. Can't say enough good things about them.

Great stop, great facility, 2014-09-17
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1997)

Spent a week here waiting for the river to calm down and the cost of dockage with paying for 4 days get 3 free was well worth it.
The marina was almost full but yet the staff were friendly attentive and the town was fun to explore.
Enterprise in Alton services this marina and their service was outstanding.
Would definitely return again if in the area.

Great Marina, 2014-09-06
Captain: , Cape Coral, Fl (838)

Very nice marina with excellent staff. Topped off diesel @ $3.80 with discount. They have specials pay 3 days,1 free and pay 4, 3 days free. Been here a week waiting on parts and weather. Nice place for a break. Courtesy van to Super Walmart, NAPA and groceries.

Good Provisioning Stop, 2013-10-14
Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

Grafton Harbor is a great place to stop and regroup after days on the river. They have a courtesy van you can take to Walmart which is about 20 minutes away. There's a vegetable stand next to the marina if you just need a few fresh items. A pool and restaurant are on site if you just want to relax. We found their fuel prices to be good so we topped off the tanks before we left. A good stop.

Great Stop after Being on the Illinois River 4 days, 2013-09-20
Captain: , Chattanooga, TN (554)

The Grafton Harbor Marina was a welcome stop this week after having anchored out four straight days on the Illinois. The water is still low here at the end of the Illinois, but not a problem in the marina. The lowest we saw at our dock -- the closest one to shore -- was 6.5 feet.

It's a friendly marina with good facilities. The ships store has a little bit of everything, more along the gift lines than boating lines. The bar upstairs has above average bar food.

It was a welcome relief to be there.

Great Hot Tub, 2013-09-17
Captain: , Beaufort, S.C. (640)

Very nice marina! My favorite part by far was the great hot tub at the pool. The marina staff were very nice and heated it up for us when requested - ah relaxing!

Day dock $8.00, 2013-09-03
Captain: , Trenton ON (668)

We took a day dock for a few hours and were able to use the laundry facilities. Power is included in the day dock charge. Friendly helpful staff and be sure to check out their fuel prices, which is the cheapest in this area ( compared to last year)

Wonderful Folks, 2013-07-26
Captain: , Louisville (301)

Stopped here after leaving Hoppies while doing a northbound delivery. Fair fuel prices, friendly staff, covered slips, and good food....what else can you ask for? I second the previous review.....try the Hawaian Burger!

It just doesnt get any better than this!, 2013-04-25
Captain: , Louisville KY (408)

Arrived late on Monday night and owners came down to greet us. Overnight stay with clean showers, 1.25/foot, reasonable fuel prices, fantastic service and very accomodating owners. Jan and Joe were fantastic, offering us anything they could do to help. Ship's store was outstanding and well stocked. We were going to eat aboard but after hearing about the burgers at the Big Kahuna we had to try them out. The Hawaiian Burger is worth every penny! Courtesy van was made available to us for a quick run to Wal-Mart. Woke up to fog and slept in. Owners were worried we might have had some problem when we were still there at their arrival and came out to check on us.

Well run marina, 2012-10-29
Captain: , Detroit (767)

The staff is very efficient, friendly and the place seems well run. Their diesel price is very good for boaters who spend the night (unfortunately, the pumps were not operating when we tried to fuel up). Facilities are nice and clean.

Top Shelf, 2012-10-20
Captain: , Mobile, AL. (151)

Great place to stop. Staff helped with the fuel, pump out, docking, hooking up the water and electric. Service here is the best we have seen in a long time. Great ships store with super clean bathrooms and showers. On site restaurant makes the best Pizza and even delivers it to your boat.

Great Stop with Great Staff, 2012-10-07
Captain: , St. Clair, Michigan (456)

Stopped here because we needed fuel and the diesel price was good. Staff very helpful in getting the boat docked with the wind off the dock. They handled both tanks together and did the pumpout at the same time and that really minimized the time. The also helped with the slip docking, power hookup and water hookup. When I asked where the dumpsters were they said that they would take the trash out for us. Very good service. Nice floater docks and the harbor has good wind protection and wake protection. I did not ask but heard them tell someone they had 10' at the entrance and fuel dock.
Nice store, winery and restaurant on site so you do not need to walk anywhere else unless you want to.

Share the loaner van, 2012-09-25
Captain: , Spring Lake, MI (379)

The well lighted docks, wonderful store, pool and spa and WiFi are all welcomed. Joe is great.
There is a Walmart 17 mi away in Jerseyville. You can take the loaner van there if you put $15 worth of gas in the tank. The van seats 16 so if you get several boat owners to go along, you can split the gas charge and same.

Great stop with Amenities Reasonaly Priced, 2012-09-08
Captain: , LeClaire, Iowa (449)

We closed our loop here. The owners allowed us to have our gold looper flag sent here and have a party on the dock below their retaurant. Some of us even brought our beverages into the restaurant. Charminng town, good ships store with gifts, and good fuel prices. Very nice laundry facilities and showers.

First class, 2012-09-04
Captain: , Cincinnati (1810)

First class people and marina. Fuel, pool and great residents make for a fun filled stop. The owners and staff are the most gracious of hosts.

Nice marina., 2012-08-19
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

Good fuel stop. Val Tech. Floating docks. Small pool. Nice heads/showers. Owners on site. Professional staff. Restaurant on site. Good ships store/gift shop. Town has a number of restaurants/bars within easy walk. We were there on a weekend and there was a lot of boat traffic into and out of marina. Mostly boats buying fuel or tying up to day docks for lunch/dinner. So there was quite a bit of wake. $1.30/foot including electric.

Yup this is the place after a long ride on the ILL, 2011-10-29
Captain: , Fort Myers, FL (141)

Great place to regroup. Walk to town and reprovision.

Worth spending a few days, 2011-09-24
Captain: , Bayfield, Ontario (70)

Excellent facilities and great staff in a quaint yet active village. Courtesy care available to get to nearby larger town with Walmart and grocery store to resupply. Been here 2 nights and staying one more because we enjoy the place so much. Weekends are busy with lots of activity in the waterfront bars.

All you need, 2011-09-21
Captain: , Austin, Texas (1774)

The staff here go out of their way to help. Great place to refuel, pump out, and use their courtesy car to re-provision. There is a restaurant on site, but the food is so so. All you need to get ready to head down the Mississippi.

Great pit stop, 2011-09-18
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1191)

Nice harbor, though slighly bumpy from Illinois River traffic. There are really nice people here, very helpful, and good sense of humor. We enjoyed our stop here and will stop again.

Marina has it all, 2011-09-18
Captain: , Mesa AZ (1609)

Great place to visit or leave your boat for trip extended trip home. Bike path. Covered slips. Reasonable price. Jan & Joe (owners) are extremely helpful. Try Mississippi Half Step for great food in historic house.

Grafton Harbor, 2011-07-17
Captain: , Whitehall, Mi (1754)

Great stop. Staff helpful and willing to do what it takes to make you happy.

The pool and hot tub are a great. The bathrooms are full suites (toilet, sink and shower each in seperate lockable rooms).

Lots of bars and restaurants. Friendly local boaters.

Vibrant Grafton, 2011-02-03
Captain: , St. Louis (81)

Once a sleepy river town, it is now a hopping place, wineries, bars, restaraunts, stores...a great pace to spend the night.

Grafton Harbor Home Port, 2010-12-08
Captain: , Grafton Harbor (47)

Grafton harbor has recently installed and sunk shipping containers along the sea wall to slow down the current and silting. This should make the harbor easier to use. It is already one of the best stops on the rivers now. Its has an excellent bar & grill in the harbor with a great view of the junction of the Illinois and Mississippi rivers. Their are many other bars and resturants in easy walking distance. A conveniert and fun place to stop.

Great stop at the end of the Il. river., 2010-09-22
Captain: , baltimore md (644)

This was a planned stop for us because of all the good reviews. Guess what they are all correct. Very customer oriented staff with all the amenities-pool/hot tub, very nice shower/restrooms,laundry with 2 each w/d. Very good ships store with a fun restaurant above. They even have wine tasting. We felt the fuel @$3.10 per gal. and their weekly dockage rate make this stop a winner. Neat stores, propane station, fresh veggies off campus. Oh, a crew cab courtesy truck is also available. Joe and Jan could'nt be nicer! Enter the marina at the southern end Red tipped pvc stakes guide you in. The fuel dock is the first dock you come to.

One of Better Stops on Loop, 2010-09-04
Captain: , Grove, OK (337)

This was one of the better marinas we have used since starting the Loop. What makes it so good, IMO, is not so much the facilities but the helpful attitude shown by the entire staff. They definitely cater to the boaters, wanting to help you in whatever fashion they can. Walk to town for dinner and supplies. Restaurant on premises is OK. Covered slips available even for transients. Would be 5 * in my opinion except for relatively high fuel prices and kind of tight around several of the docks.

Great Stop on the Loop or for a Day Trip, 2010-06-01
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (778)

Nice Place to spend the night, or even a week! Walking distance to numerous resturants, wineries and historical sites. Joe and Jan are great hosts and dock hands are very professional. They see you coming and jump on bikes and make sure you get any help you need.

Care must be taken during high water when entering the harbor as it can get hit by current. If in doubt, give them a shout on the radio (16) and they'll talk you in.

Grafton Harbor, 2009-09-16
Captain: , Howard Prairie (510)

This is very nice stop. The marina is new within the last five years, with showers pool walking access to town. Has a resteraunt and bar on premises. We didn't experience the problems with current that some have but that would all depend on river conditions

Grafton Harbor, 2008-10-27
Captain: , St Louis (9)

Shallow harbor with swift current. Tight quarters considering current.
