Reviews for Gottschalk Marina, MWR
Nice Docks but Limited, 2016-06-27
Captain: , Beverly, MA (1140)

Arrived and marina didn't answer the radio. Decided to take a slip and the dock folks arrived to take lines. They were helpful but unknowledgable. Very shallow coming up river, with my 4 ft draft I would only try at or near High Tide. Small live aboard community very friendly. Dock price has gone up to $1 per foot w/elect and water. Marina store poorly stocked. Everything seems to be about 1/4-1/2 mile away. Good Free Wi FI signal now available. Fingers are only 12 ft so getting on and off is difficult. First 4 slips each dock are 50 Amp only, remaining are 30 Amp.

Military facility, so must have military ID. Laundry, bathrooms, showers, and a small store small store are on site. PX within half a Mile. Boat launch available, but overhead powerlines, so sailboats beware.

While this is a DOD facility they'll sell anyone fuel and the ships store is available too! Pay attention to all the markers as this is a challenging marina to enter but not that bad as there are 40' yachts harbored there. This is the only liveaboard marina on the base.

Limited access DoD Facility, 2012-09-09
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (507)

Gottschalk marina is in the middle of the Marine Corps Base at Camp Lejeune. Accordingly, it's use is limited to Active duty and retired military and DoD civilians. Getting to the marina is a challenge in that the New River is very shallow between Day markers 15 and 16, and Wallace Creek has shoaling near red boy #4. The rest of teh New River is mostly shallow but navigable. We showed 6 feet most of the 14 miles we travelled on the New River at about an hour before high tide. There is no pump out here and only gasoline. The marina has a small ship's store. As previously stated, the 50A service on the dock requires a 50A 125V plug. The typical 50A 125/240v plugs won't work here. The marina does have splitters for the 50A to two 30A cables with the correct plug for their pedistals. There is no wifi or cable service to the docks. The people here are among the friendliest we have encountered on our journey from Newport RI

This marina is about 14 nmi up the New River in a well protected cove.
Friendly staff are very helpful, and other boaters welcome you with open arms. The only complaint is the 50A/124V electric on the fixed docks. The marina office does have adapters, and one can use a 30A splinter off two of the 50A/125V outlets and get 50A/240V current. Great place to relax and worth the trip up the river.
