Reviews for Goat Island Marina
Nothing wrong here!, 2017-07-16
Captain: , PooleUK (973)

Im not sure why it has not been better rated before? The staff have been attentive, the floating dock nice and secure, the shelter good, the shore power sturdy and even the WIFI is rock solid.
As a marina to secure it is damn fine.
Thank you for fitting this Nordhavn into your B docks chaps!

Well-meaning but disorganized, 2016-10-19
Captain: , Boston (165)

We had a somewhat strange interaction around the price per foot (their Dockwa price of 1.50$/ft vs actual price of 2.75$/ft), at the end of which they waived all fees for my overnight stay. Good facilities with clean showers and laundry, but disorganized and far from town.

Very Helpful and Accomodating, 2016-08-15
Captain: , Boston (10)

Hailed Goat Island Marina via VHF and was promtly answered with helpful and detailed directions to my boat slip. We were waved in by two dockhands who grabbed our lines, set up power, and plugged in our hose. upon entering the dock office the office manger helped us get our payment taken care of as well as purchasing ice. Happy to see that there were bathroom and laundry facilites that were well maintained. Staff was helpful in calling a shuttle to pick us up to go downtown and pointing out places to visit as well. I highly recommend Goat Island Marina and we will be back.

Goat Island Stay Didn't Qiute Make It, 2016-07-31
Captain: , Mystic, CT (20)

On arrival Goat Island did not have our reservations; Thank God for Dockwa's e-mail receipt on our cell phone. Otherwise, I am sure we would have been turned away. Had to tie-up to the fuel dock until the marina dock master showed up. Had us stay at a fixed dock that was not designed for smaller vessels (we have a 45 foot sailboat). Couldn't get off at low tide; had to use our dinghy. Have been going to Goat Island for years; Been willing to pay the cost in expectation of superior service and accommodation; Not going back for awhile

No information given to us concerning marina, map, facilities, transportation, restaurants etc. No pool as stated in Dockwa. Very scenic. Women's restroom only has one shower

Great location, 2016-07-27

Staff very accomodating and helpful, great location to get to everything, by foot, by launch, by Uber, even has a bar and restaurant right there.

Apathetic Marina Staff!, 2016-07-13
Captain: , Southport, CT (70)

Spent July 3 and 4 at Goat Island Marina at the end of G Dock. The docks are old rickety but serviceable. The main issue is the completely apathetic staff. Dock helper could not leave quickly enough. Tied the boat and said...power is over there. Failed to mention that the only 50 Amp plu at the end of the dock is normally used by a year round customer. When the customer returned he immeidately blamed the marina and said they do it all the time. Fortunately, I have a dual 30Amp to 50Amp converter which I used. Dock hands no where to be seen... marina closes at 4:00 PM.

On July 5th I notified staff that we were leaving at 11:00, they were busy texting on their phones in the office but said... we will be down at 11:00. At 11:30 I left the dock, no one ever showed up. Goat Island MArina has the potential to be a really nice marina but not as long as they have uncaring, apathetic staff that would rather sit in the office playing with their phones. Obviously owner is not onsite!

Long Walk to Newport, 2015-01-12
Captain: , Newport, RI (360)

South floating docks (where 30-40' slips are) are old - Fuel is easy in and out and priced the same as the other 2 fuel docks in newport (high) get fuel somewhere other than newport or call the barge from Casey's and they will come to you for much cheaper

Goat Island Marina, 2014-07-31
Captain: , Noank (60)

Had dock space when every other marina in Newport was full.
Dock help was real bad, the guy grabbed the line we threw him but did not know what to do with it. All in all, a good place to stay.

Convenient, 2014-06-23
Captain: , Chebeague Island (437)

Stopped by to pick up diesel fuel. It's very pricey, though that must be the "Newport tax." After spending $1,300 on diesel, I asked if we could top off (only 30 gals) the water. They said that they were supposed to charge $0.10/foot for water, but relented when I asked if they were serious, given their price on diesel.

Depreciating Asset, 2013-09-15
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1011)

It appears that neither the owners nor management care about the dirty and very rundown state of the wharves and floats. Rotting timbers and unkempt wharves with trash sometimes found under the gangways seem at odds with the practical location with an easy fuel dock.

The staff were helpful and pleasant, but the deteriorating state of the marina overshadows all.

Better options for berthing at Newport abound.

Good and Bad, 2012-08-17
Captain: , Portsmouth, RI (30)

Good - very very helpful dock personnel
Good - a little bit away from the noise and crowds in Newport but close enough to walk or dinghy
Good - docks and facilities are in good shape and clean
Bad - extremely expensive
Bad - pool is not on premises but at a nearby hotel, but you can only get access Monday through Thursday - the website makes it seem like it's kind of an all-inclusive marina and it's really a little less

I don't think I'd stay there again

Great staging location away from the crowd, 2011-12-23
Captain: , Huntington (465)

We like this marina as our friends can meet us and have no problem parking their cars. It is easy to get in and out and the staff are very helpful. If you are tired of the crowds in downtown Newport and dont mind walking over the bridge it is a great place. Gives another perspective on one of the nicest ports in the North East.

Stopped in a pinch, 2011-07-01
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1290)

Needed stop for repair and to meet family. No repair faciltiy on site. Staff gave recommendations for mechanic. Assigned transient slip was very difficult in and out. Very expensive @ $4.50 ft. On site restaurant ok. Good laundry and shower facilities. Would prefer not to go there again.

Easy Newport Access, 2011-01-30
Captain: , Newport, RI (249)

The marina has extrac clean facilities and friendly, courteous staff. Mike is the manager and goes out of his way to help folks. It's an easy 15 minute walk across the bridge to the main streets, which means you're removed from the Newport noise and crowds at night. The Hyatt hotel is available with pool, bar, eats, and great inner/outer harbor views. Fuel dock is the easiest to access in Newport. Lots of weddings on the weekends which can be entertaining or distracting, depending on your perspective.

Clean and friendly but a little removed, 2010-06-29
Captain: , Milford (530)

We stayed here one night in July 2009, with strong north winds dragging boats outside. We were happy to be on one of Goat Island's old slip fingers. The staff were very helpful, the showers and common areas absolultely clean. the staff even found another couple who gave us a ride to Newport in their car since it poured rain the entire time.

Not at all what it was advertised to be, 2010-04-20
Captain: , York, ME (1971)

This might be an option if everything in Newport proper is full. It's a long walk to town, or sometimes there's a water taxi that will nickel-and-dime you for every transit. The disappointing location so far from Newport was only the first offense. We had read brochures promising all the amenities of the resort, nature trails, and a marina with heads, showers and laundry. we were willing to spend extra for all that. It was all untrue. Boaters were only allowed to use the amenities on certain weekdays. The heads, showers and laundry were locked when the staff went home in the evening, and not opened until 8 in the morning (or some such.) There's no "nature" worth seeing, and nobody we talked to had ever seen a trail. There was a nice bar at the dock, so you could at least drown your sorrows. But for my money, staying on the Newport side is the only way to go. We won't be back to Goat Island - ever.

It'll do, 2009-08-24
Captain: , Greenport, NY (427)

Clean marina with few services. Laundry/Lounge area is well maintained. Oldport Launch is servicing the marina this year. The friendly staff will call them upon request.

Last chance marina in Newport, 2009-07-31
Captain: , Chesapeake Bay, MD (311)

When nothing else is available, this place will work but no frills, off the beaten path (water taxi or walk the causway into town). Had us on a bulkhead with lots of wake and thank god for fender boards!
Nothing special but it is an alternative location in Newport.

Good alternative, 2009-05-19
Captain: , Sarasota, FL - Newport, RI (435)

Summer 2008 the restaurant and water shuttle shut down. Still not a long walk to town but not as easy as in prior years. Hopefully they'll start up again in 2009!

A little less action, 2007-08-19
Captain: , Greenport, NY (23)

Goat Island Marina is located across from all the action in New Port. A short water shuttle and a couple of bucks takes you to the action in a few minutes. When all else fails in the main part of town you may be able to get a slip here. The marina is clean, friendly and offers an excellent view of the town.
