Reviews for Glen Island Yacht Club
refocused owners, 2016-08-14

This old yard has been in a state of flux but now seems headed in the right direction. The day to day operation is now being managed by Dwight and Jon LeCompte who both grew up on this property and have the desire to make it a top notch marina and full service yard again. They are honest, knowledgeable, boat loving people that will only do work correctly with pride. The docks and slip fingers are well maintained and the small clubhouse is open to all with clean remodeled bathrooms, showers, kitchen and laundry. I am using the facility for the 2nd year and hope that Dwight and Jon will be successful in building on their father's Dutch shipbuilding legacy. Anybody needing repairs or just a place to dock for a stopover or for the season can be assured of honest and courteous service.

Managment changed again, 2016-07-19
Captain: , New York, NY (10)

The management has changed yet again and is now run by a guy who doesn't give a rat's tail about sailors or sailing. He's just trying to make a quick buck. They have no services any more, the facilities are in disrepair and they don't mind charging a premium to tie up to the broken down old docks for the night. Look elsewhere. I'm onnly leaving one star because I can't leave zero.

Changed review, 2016-07-16

Art, the previous yard manager and great sailor, no longer works here. Paul, the previous engine man knows everything about engines and mechanics, and does careful and superior repairs, but he moved on. Woody is a superb and friendly worker and the back bone of the yard. I was in this yard since 1979, and I stayed in the yard after my boat was dropped by the cable breaking on the travel lift, and a total loss. The dock pulled apart and damaged my new boat. Management has changed, I was not treated well, and I moved elsewhere in 2014.

Sailor's Gem, 2007-04-15
Captain: , New York (88)

This is a tiny yard without a single powerboat.... owned and operated by sailors for sailors. All work performed is first class top of the line by careful skilled mechanics who know boats and their craft. You can DIY if you like too. There are two finger docks and a travel lift for haul outs. Very protect from winds but you have to deal with an 6-8' tidal range and some swift currents and if coming from the East a lift bridge to Glen Island which opens with a blast of your horn 24/7. Limited parking. Not a transient marina... but for serious work, seasonal storage in and out of the water.

Art, the yard manager is about as knowledgable as you can find in all aspects of sailboats and he lives aboard on a house boat in the marina and races on a sailboat. What a gem! A rare fine.
