Reviews for Georgetown Marina and Lodge
Friendliest place on the river., 2017-07-09
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

Really the best stop on the river for fuel also. Right off the channel, easy in and out.

Stopped there recently on return trip from Silver Glenn Springs. Fuel pump (diesel) was VERY slow and price posted was PLUS tax. However for Boat US the pumpout was free with a 25 gal purchase.

Beware Blind Mosquitoes (Midges) !!, 2017-02-02
Captain: , Fanning Island, FL (248)

They don't bite but they are pest!! We arrived at the height of the season (depending on weather Sept to Nov) and our 4 night stay to explore the springs was shortened to 2 and we couldn't head back down river fast enough. We were washing the boat all day trying to get their dead carcuses off so they wouldn't stain. Other than that we LOVED our stay at Georgetown Marina. Great people and the bike riding was beautiful!

Four Stars for friendly helpful staff, 2015-12-22
Captain: , Pinnacle, NC, USA (1422)

Hate not to have them right at the top of Lake George. Attended 7am to 2n PM. No-E gas! Old but clean showers.

Good old Florida Marina with great service, 2015-05-19
Captain: , Jekyll Island Ga (482)

The people make the difference. Good easy in and out for our 40 ft trawler. The outside docks for big boats are very exposed to waakes from passing bass boats and idiots on pontoon boats. You are no where for supplies or dining. limited supplies in store. Diesel/gas at fuel dock. Lots of fishing going on.

Last stop for Diesel heading south, 2015-04-13
Captain: , Sanford, FL (206)

One of the few marinas on the St. Johns with great service! You would think you are on salt water as so many other marinas on this river wont as much as answer a radio. We recieved great help and the manager running this fish camp couldnt have been nicer! Free pump out with fuel. This is the last diesel at a pump heading south down the St. Johns. Anywhere else you might stay will require that fuel is trucked in.

Friendly staff, but exposed to lake on fuel dock, 2015-03-12
Captain: , Florida (235)

Fuel was 3.89 a gallon(non ethanol) and you did get a free pump out with boat US. We stayed the night after being on the hook for five nights. Showers were clean, but old and must be well water because of sulpher smell. I knew what it was so it sisn't bother me. We didn't fill up the water though on the boar because I didn't want that in my tank. Reading Active captain I was kinda prepared for 1.25 a foot(we are 23ft), but after after being first quoted 40 with my boat us we finally came to $30 becaue I wasn't a very big boat. I appreciate that, but word to boaters. Call and ask!! They are extremly nice people and it is a fish camp. I did get my laundry done. Washer and Dryer were both 1.25 each.

friendly helpful place, 2015-01-02
Captain: , ATLANTA (10)

the place is more a fish camp than a marina, but all basic services
are in place. It's a friendly laid-back place which delivers what it
Two drawbacks: 1) The pilings of the fuel dock have slightly
protruding unprotected bolts which are a problem for
tumblehome topsides.
2) The marina is quite isolated. The nearest breakfast/lunch
place is 1.5 miles away. The nearest stores are (said to be)
four miles away.

Waiting for weather, 2014-04-22
Captain: , Newport (131)

Storm kicking up Lake so pulled in for the afternoon and night. Fixed wood docks in good shape but exposed to the south. However very helpful staff with tying up.
Typical fish camp. Wifi close to office but not on dock. Ended up being pleasant stay

5 STARS FOR THE STAFF, 2014-04-10
Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1643)

Adam, the dockmaster and Theresa, the owner were very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I would return just because of them. Although it is called a marina it is not a cruising marina, nor does it pretend to be. It is, above all, a fish camp. There are many small bass boats, 9 rental cottages, and 30 campsites along with a small bait and tackle shop. It was a good place to spend a night (we spent 2 while waiting for weather), but there's not much doing besides fishing. We tied to the inside of the fuel dock which is exposed to the south, but even with a south wind we were comfortable.

Transient slip, 2014-02-12
Captain: , Camp Lejeune, NC (180)

Stayed one night here while moving south. Fuel was 3.89 plus tax with Boat US discount. Slip at fuel dock was $1.00 per foot. Dockmaster Adam was very friendly and helpful.

David OKeeffe got it right in his June 2013 review, 2013-07-24
Captain: , Nashville, TN (206)

I'll give the area a three star but the hospitality a 5. Consider visiting some of the spring in the area. Well worth it.
(They have an stuffe alligator head on a table in the lounge area and the rest of him hanging from the roof! Only on the water.)

Rustic but nice, 2013-06-22
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (507)

The people at this marina is what rates four stars. Talk about southern hospitality! The facilities are basic but adequate. The heads and showers are clean. There is not much else here but the marina and adjacent RV park. Georgetown does have a few cabins and bungalows for rent. We tied up at the fuel dock for two nights heading south and one night heading back north. Easy in and out with plenty of water depth. The wifi on the pier is weak but there is a nice covered area next to the office with comfortable chairs and electricity available for laptops. There the wifi is fine. This place is a serious fish camp. From early morning to in the evening small boats stop by for fuel. The marina carries Valve-Tech gas and diesel. While there are quite a few places to pick up gasoline along the river, diesel is hard to come by And the price is the best in the area. It is an ideal spot to break up the trip between Palatka and Sanford. For just kicking back and relaxing, this is the place to do it.

Good for quick pump out, 2013-05-15
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, Fl (570)

Easy in and out. Pump out $5.00. Very friendly.

Very laid back marina, 2013-05-11
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (680)

May 7 and 8.
Three docks for big boats, easy tie up.
A serious fishing camp for RV's and cottages and a marina. 50/30 amp power. Plenty of wild life right at the marina. Three manatee swam off dock. Rented a boat from Welaka Charters to go to the Salt Springs just a few miles away. Saw eagles, aligators and swam in the suoer clear water at the end of the five mile creek.
A great place to see and enjoy. Very friendly people. Lots of fish.

RV park with docks and diesel, 2013-05-07
Captain: , Silverthorne, CO (419)

Friendly staff. We tied up at the fuel dock as we heard it was best diesel prices on the river. That may be so, but the large sign with the price did not include tax. We filled less than we intended because of that. Very slow pump, which works okay for us. Funky docks for fishing boats, fish cleaning station, bait of all kinds including crickets in the office/store. We were told there was nice bike riding, but we opted to stay onboard. Nothing else in area. We intended to call Shrimp R Us to see about getting a ride to dinner, but our Verizon phones could not call out. Wifi was useless at our dock, too. Don't know how they figure the dockage rate, but our 39 footer was $50 less $15 Boat U.S. discount, plus tax. Lovely afternoon with view out to Lake George, but by evening and overnight we were rolling from wind and waves.

Nice marina but that's it, 2013-04-03
Captain: , Athens, AL (641)

The staff was very helpful, put us on the fuel dock since we couldn't fit anywhere else. Nice jump-off spot for going across Lake George southbound. We planned to stop again heading north but strong winds out of the NW would have beaten us up pretty good at the dock. There is nothing here but an RV park, nowhere to ride bikes, no stores or anything close by that I'm aware of. But, there are lots of birds and Wifi works great over by the office. Sometimes simple and quiet is nice.

Our kind of place!, 2013-01-29
Captain: , Topsail Beach, NC (480)

We wanted to be close to Lake George so we could see what the weather was going to be before we crossed. This was the perfect spot, as you can see the lake from your boat. The owners stayed past their normal closing time to help us in. Butch and Theresa were very helpful and friendly.

The facility is rustic, but you get more than what you pay for. Just watching the birds made the stay worthwhile. Blue Herons are so tame you can walk right up to them. Pelicans roosting right next to the dock were fun to watch.

There is a laundry and a convenience store (with beer), AND they even have a recycle bin for your cans....very important!

For the price, this is a 5 star marina. But it is old and a little backwoodsy, which I really like but which keeps me from actually giving it a 5 star rating. If you've ever been to Olverson's Marina off the Potomac and liked it, you will like this place also.

We had pizza delivered from a local restaurant recommended by the owner, Theresa. Very good.

Another bare bones marina but nice, 2012-11-28
Captain: , charleston (831)

Friendly, helpful staff. Not much in the way of amenities but it is worth a stop.

Great Stop on the St. Johns River, 2012-07-01
Captain: , North Charleston, SC (752)

We stopped for fuel and overnight dockage on the way south and again on the way north. Good fuel prices and friendly staff and other marina/camp guests.

Locals had been out fishing and insisted that we take some fresh fish. They even filleted them for us.

Very Nice St. John's Stop, 2012-03-27
Captain: , Louisville (301)

Butch and Teresa are very friendly and helpful hosts at this no frills marina. We had planned to stop here and borrow the loaner truck (available two years ago to friends) and visit the Welaka Boat Museum. We were disappointed to learn that there is no longer a loaner truck and the owner of the museum died recently, so it is no longer open. The inside of the fuel dock can hold two 45' boats.

The nice surprise we had was that the owner of the Shrimp R Us restaurant in Welaka will come pick you up, if they're not too busy. Excellent food at 1990's prices. Would definitely recommend this place.

Nice People, 2012-03-10
Captain: , Cincinnati (1810)

Small marina with good fuel prices and the friendliest operators we have met in a long time. We arrived too late for fuel but in a call ahead the owner said we could tie up for the night and get fuel first thine in the morning. If we didn't hookup electric, it would have been free for the tie up. Very slow pump caused us to overfill but I would definitely stop there again.

Nice folks, Good gas price, 2012-02-17
Captain: , Unionville, IN (221)

Best fuel prices on the river. Very friendly people, helped us find a safe anchorage in a storm. Even gave my dog a treat

Best fuel Price on the river, 2012-01-22
Captain: , Sanford, FL (657)

Before we set out from Sanford, FL, we checked Diesel prices down river to Jacksonville and found Georgetown to have the best price of all. We had stopped here twice before and we found them open on New Years Days 2012 for fuel. Very friendly and helpful staff. They also have a wifi connection, so we could connect without burning up our Verizon bandwidth.

Old Florida at its best, 2012-01-17
Captain: , St Johns, FL (160)

Rustic fun place - like a time-capsule back to the 1960's. Very friendly helpful staff, they squeezed us in on a busy weekend and made us feel welcome. In fall and spring, call ahead to check on aquatic midge situation first. If they are present, keep going.

Pleasant Funky Place, 2011-05-18
Captain: , Cotuit, MA (94)

This is primarily a small fishiing boat marina attached to a campground for RVs. They are one of three (Pier 44 & Sanford Boat Works) that carry diesel fuel on the river south of the Jacksonville area. Their prices were the cheapest for diesel. Fixed docks with about 5-6' depth on the outside are available with 30/50 amp service. With taxes it still works out to $1.00 per foot, which is the cheapest on the river most likely except for Hontoon State Park. Bath is small and useable with a bottle of "smell good spray" on top of the toilet. There is a tiny store selling beer, fishing stuff, and sundries. There is NOTHING nearby to walk to. Nice staff and neighbors.

Georgetown Marina, 2011-04-01
Captain: , mobile, al (171)

Nice marina. Staff helpful. 30/50 amp avaiable. Supplies available tend toward local fishermen. There are nice cabins and camper parking available. Laundry is available.

Nice smaller marina, 2008-03-11
Captain: , Jacksonville Florida (125)

They have a very accomidating staff with a fuel dock and about 8 transiet docks with 30 amp services and water. Around $1.00 per foot. Limited supplies in store.
