Reviews for Ganges Marina
Ganges Marina, 2016-09-16
Captain: , Kirkland, WA (4478)

One of the larger marinas in very popular Ganges Harbour. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Located near the center of town. Docks are adequate and secure but in need of upgrades. Shorepower is available but with a limited number of outlets. Summer moorage prices are higher than off-season when there is an abundance of available space.

Time to repair the docks and fix those toilets, 2016-08-22
Captain: , Saanich, BC (50)

First visit was last year and the toilets needed fixing - a return visit this year and they were no different. Docks and slips seem unstable. The staff are friendly but there doesn't seem enough of them to cope with the volume of boats.

I'm glad we pulled in, 2016-07-31
Captain: , Spokane, Wa (360)

I was there on 7/20/16. Contrary to what others have said I felt the docks were ok and we had water, what we didn%u2019t have was power but that is not a big deal to me. The village I found to be a interesting mix of old and new stores and all within walking distance.

Friendly but.., 2016-06-04
Captain: , cleveland, OH (70)

They were the only marina so far to require a credit card for a reservation (late May).

The first thing they did was whip out a measuring tape and then decided our 24 ft. was really 27 ft. I believe we were charged for the amount the anchor stuck out and the tipped up kicker motor. Another first.

None of other marinas we have been to operated like that.

We will not be back.

Not impressed, 2016-04-02
Captain: , Willamette (31)

I stopped at Salt Spring Island 15+ years ago and simply wanted to go back. We went there in March of 2016 and granted it was off season the marina office was closed when we arrived. The payment envelope system they had worked well. We stayed on an inner dock as weather was coming in. The rocks that are noted in many places we avoided by staying as close to the docks as possible. Some marina workers were there and indicated that they comments about the rocks were more than they thought and had never heard of anyone bumping then. That said the docks were pretty dilapidated. Had a small sheet of plywood in places bridging two docks. We stayed the night before in Sidney and while put at the end alongside a not so cared for boat that was occupied and a lot of stuff on the dock it was immensely better.
We wound up renting a car and driving all over the island and saw plenty. We got underway at first light the next day as there was a good weather window and I was not disappointed in leaving. It was neat as we had a couple Canadian Navy ships show up for the night. And the float planes flew in right over our heads. The walk into town was very doable and we got a hike in at Daffodil point over by Vesuvius Bay which was very neat. Not sure I will make my way to Sslt Sping again but perhaps.

Needs extensive upgrade, 2015-08-04
Captain: , Dallas TX (48)

The marina needs extensive repairs. Power OK. WiFi very weak. No water on docks due to water shortage. However all the other marinas had water. Maybe they just did not want to pay for their water! Used to be the premier marina, but no longer.

Extremely Friendly, 2014-09-19
Captain: , Astoria, Oregon (41)

Stayed there in August. They helped you with your tie down, and had muffins and coffee in the morning. The town is kinda a tourist trap, but is varly well supplied. Thumbs up.

Perfectly adequate stop, 2014-09-09
Captain: , Olalla WA (412)

Docks not in great shape. Wifi worked fine (but we have a booster) at our boat. Staff extremely friendly. We thought price was as expected ($1.45 per foot 9/2/2014). We would stop here again as easy walking distance to attractions in town is good.

Poorly maintained, 2014-08-30
Captain: , Portland OR (10)

The docks are in poor shape. The wifi is barely working, sporadic at beśt. Half the bathrooms are closed for repair. Water barely trickles. Plus the highest price of any marina

Nice place to stop into town for meals/groceries. , 2014-08-22
Captain: , Anacortes (110)

Nice stay for us. Loaded up on water, had dinner in town, well stocked liquor store, grocery stores nearby have good selections of fresh fruits and veggies and good selection of meats and seafoods. Docks are OK. We stayed on the outer docks with power and water. Overall a nice place to spend a night and enjoy the town.

One of Our Favorite Stops, 2014-07-25
Captain: , Liberty Bay, WA (410)

This was during the week, so was not that busy. Got a slip near the outside where the docks are in good shape. Walking to the marina was different. Must be carefull as the docks are in very bad shape. Wifi was very weak and slow.

The town was nice to walk around in and had a nice morning break with coffee and muffin at the Green Tree Cafe. There is also a great hardware store to walk around in. Don't miss going to M.O.B.Y's for lunch or dinner. It is about a 1/2 mile walk from the marina but well worth it. We went there for an afternoon brew and liked it so much we went back for dinner. Very friendly people and had a great waitress.

Overall, the Marina needs some work, but the town is nice.

Falling apart, 2013-08-03
Captain: , Sacramento (183)

Stayed here several times and find it sad to watch the place slowly decay. Considering how much they charge for a slip (with no power in my case because the electrical had corroded and died and there are too few plugs), they should try plowing money back into the marina. Hopefully management will see this and turn the place around, because this is a great stop on the way north with a wonderful, vibrant town with good shopping.

Great location, 2013-07-11
Captain: , Vancouver (282)

Had a very good marina experience here -- good staff, good facilities. Of course the highlight is the easy access to Ganges -- evening music, Staurday market, shops and services, funky aging hippy vibe. Good restaurants aplenty, and the fish shack by the Marina is not to be missed. We bought several gorgeous dungeness crab and cooked them on the boat for a feast right on teh dock. The only problem was that they berthed a 160' monster ("after Eight") on the outer dock, which stank up the marina while they ran tehir gen, and blocked all teh morning sun. Not the Marina's fault, of course, but be aware that big tubs will come in. Plenty of space to anchor out, too.

Handy Location, Old Docks & Facilities, Nice People, 2013-06-18
Captain: , Anacortes, WA (220)

This is our 2nd stay at this marina in 2 years. It is a handy provisioning stop with good shopping, for both souveniers and groceries.

The docks are showing their age and in need of repair. WIFI access is free, but spotty.

A bit pricey.

Marina Upgrade, 2013-04-04
Captain: , Everett, WA (191)

After sever tide and wind several dock have been replanked. NICE JOB.

Aging docks, great location, cool staff., 2012-11-29
Captain: , Seattle (250)

We've enjoyed our stays at this marina, and tend to overlook the condition of the older docks. Facilities are OK and the staff is accomodating. The real draw for us is the charm of the town, which is just a short walk from the head of the docks. Try to make it on a Saturday so you can attend the farmer's market - look for the guy who sells smoked albacore tuna! Plenty of restaurants, live entertainment, and all sorts of supplies available.

Great Location, 2012-10-18
Captain: , Guemes Island (100)

Great location to stay in Ganges, but the docks are in need of refurbishing. The staff was friendly and helpful. Lots of services available and ice was a relative bargain here. Wifi... Not reliable during our stay.

Friendly staff but pricey for what is offered, 2012-07-21
Captain: , Seattle (690)

On the poisitive side:
- The staff were very friendly and accomodating
- Convenient to shopping, etc
- Good fish market right next door
- Nice (hilly) bike ride from there to Scott Point
On the negative side
- Very expensive (more than Roche Harbor) for what you get
- "Free" Wifi down the whole time we were there
- Trash disposal cost $3 for each "special" bag
- No recycling save for deposit bottles

Disapointed, 2012-07-08
Captain: , Anacortes, Wa (115)

The docks (older section) are terrible.
It is the most expensive marina I have used this year and it is in the worst condition. I will not be going back in the near future.

Awesome Stay!!!, 2012-07-08
Captain: , Sidney, BC (10)

We had a wonderful stay at Ganges Marina! The staff was very friendly and helpful. For a marina that sustains so much damage during winter storms, they sure pull it together for the summer. The condition of the docks are a little poor in some places but the new managers are putting in a lot of time and effort into replacing the docks. The changes are already visible!
Ganges itself is a wonderful town with alot of charachter and great dinning options.
We had a GREAT time! We've been coming for years and this year was the best yet!

Ganges Marina and Town, 2011-07-22
Captain: , Port Isabel TX (640)

The Marina staff was friendly and accomodating. Docks are old, but serviceable. Power was quite a distance from our slip, but Marina loaned extention cord to reach 30A recp. Town is disappointing. Nice boardwalk along harbor, but is smoking area for some and they block walk. Dogs are prohibited in the city park, ok in Rotary Park. Poor sidewalks for walking around town. Lots of auto traffic.

never again, 2011-06-09
Captain: , marysville wa (122)

The staff and owners were rude and nasty. showers sucked and turned off after 2 minutues. old and unfreindly, and thats just the lady at the deck. never again. go to salt springs marine next door.

Dated and needs upgrading, 2011-03-26
Captain: , Sidney BC (582)

Here is one the GFC has impacted on and not for the better. It is tired and if it were not for its great location probably would not survive. Lots of dock space when its all open but as other reviewers have noted you can't always count on this.

Well it close to town, 2011-01-13
Captain: , Friday Harbor, WA (490)

I have stayed here for yeas as well as Salt Spring Marina.
This marina has had its up &down but always friendly and the restroom are clean and nice

Not as advertised, 2010-07-29
Captain: , Cowiche, WA (350)

7-29-2010 Moorage is expensive for little in the way of services. Docks are in need of serious repair, power receptacles are outdated, there is a new $3.00 per bag garbage fee, the pool and hot tub are not open and the office manager has some serious attitude issues. Beautiful setting but this marina needs some updating. I'm not sure that we will return in the future.

Shop till you drop, 2010-05-31
Captain: , United Kingdom (227)

Its great for the ladys and clothes shopping,if your a bit hippi you will feel at home.

Improving soon?, 2009-09-12
Captain: , Seattle, WA (437)

I read that marina reconstruction will happen winter 2009 for next summer. For now, the docks are still a little rickety. But it's a nice place to stay.

Ganges is nice, Ganges Marina is Forgettable, 2009-07-07
Captain: , Mercer Island, WA (120)

Nothing special at the Marina. We were there on a Monday night in June and it was not crowded at all. The docks are fairly old, and the showers and bathrooms aren't especially nice. Surprisingly, there was a mini farmers market going on Tuesday and that was fun. The town is worth walking around for a day or two.

Ganges, 2009-05-19
Captain: , Blakely Island, WA (372)

Ganges as a town is great, the marina is just OK. Excellent restaurants and shopping, and a great public market on Sat., we stop here every year. Anchoring out is the best way to go IMHO.

Crowded, 2007-12-04
Captain: , Tropical Tip of Texas (145)

When we stayed there (Aug '07), the marina was undergoing a problem with not being able to use part of their floating facilities. There is a Street Market held on Saturdays, and the place was packed. The staff was rushed and not overly friendly (except the very pleasant lady on the cash register). The docks are aging, the power was shared (we were told "plenty of 30 amp available, we were lucky to get 15 amp with a long cord). The town of Ganges is tourist oriented and very pleasant for a night or two.

A bit pricier than SaltSpring marina, has showers, laundry etc, also gas station and supplies. Access to village with all ammenities
