Reviews for Galveston Yacht Basin
GYB could be great, but currently just so so., 2016-10-12
Captain: , Galveston Yacht Basin (28)

We spend most months at GYB on our boat. The covered boat slips are fantastic, but the overall maintenance of the basin needs some serious attention. Rust falling on boats is a daily occurrence. Drafts in some of the slips need to be watched, as some during low tide are less than 5 feet. We have heard that they are correcting all of the maintenance issues which seem to have been severly neglected over the past few years.

Adequate spot to stage for heading east, 2016-07-30
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (552)

Face dock, where we were originally assigned, was very difficult to tie to due to large pilings extending from dock so we asked to move to a slip. Stayed on pier D, which was in poor condition with rusty roof supports, warped dock boards, loose power plugs. Piers A - C appeared to have been refurbished so hopefully D will be next. All slips except E are covered, which keeps them much cooler. We never got the code for the restrooms/showers so can't comment on them. One grassy area to walk the dog; mostly asphalt nearby. Plenty of depth for our 6' draft.

Convenient stop over, 2016-03-23
Captain: , Houston (51)

Its a convenient stop between Galveston Bay and the Gulf. Stayed just one night, didn't do much besides park for the night. Mainly fishing boats, you can kinda smell the fish, and some floating in the marina. Closest store is a short hike, restaruants are a goodly hike (1.5 miles). I would probaly give it more like 3.5 stars based on the very short stay.

Good stopover, 2015-11-24
Captain: , Houston (22)

A functional concrete jungle several blocks from some interesting neighborhoods and restaurants and a short drive to historic downtown Galveston.

Good Location, 2015-07-09
Captain: , Annapolis (795)

Galveston Yacht Basin is close to Bolivar Pass and easy to get into. The marina is primarily for power boats, especially fishing boats and fishing charters. There is one pier for sailboats (all the others are covered). Docks are made of concrete and there are bollards and rings as opposed to cleats. Use lots of fenders!

There is a grocery store just under a mile away. There is a cabana bar on site that serves a great breakfast burrito. Other than that, it is about a mile+ to food, bars, etc.

R&S Yacht Services, 2015-05-18
Captain: , Port Aransas (10)

Russell and team were/are great!! once contacted he was to the boat quickly. He determined the problem and even allowed us to dock (on board) while we waited deliver of special parts. They directed us to a great places to eat and things to do in the area. It was like having a friend at a time in need.. I can't say enough for the service and the follow up. R&S will always be my choice for yacht service!

R&S Yacht Service, 2015-05-17
Captain: , Galveston (10)

Great place for traveling boaters to get service and emergency repairs. Russell is very knowledgeable and honest in quoting your service needs. I've used R&S Yacht Service a number of times over the last few years and always been very happy with the quality of work and very fair pricing.

Captain: , Dallas (30)

Russell was great!! He helped us in a pinch. We needed some Emergency service and he responded like a champ fix the boat and showed us how to fix a few issues for our selfs. Then directed us to a great place to eat... And called to make sure we were making out ok.. I can't say enough for the service and the follow up

No Regrets, Kemah, 2015-04-18
Captain: , Houston (100)

Excellent people with good prices! Waited 10'days on good weather and rode out 40mph winds , rain and fog! Lots of eating places and grocery stores within walking distance! Good Harbor!

Getting Better, 2015-02-17
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (250)

This facility has been undergoing some changes post Hurricane Ike, but has turned the corner and is showing signs of becoming a good facility again. Mostly occupied by large sportfishers, there are transient slips available for sailboats with water and electric power. In the past, transients were relegated to the outside concrete pier, with no power or water, and lots of pelican guano.

Tie up after cold front, 2014-10-17
Captain: , Houston, TX (170)

A cold front had come through early afternoon so we tied up on the transient dock (No power, No water). The protection was OK, the north winds held us off the dock but was a little sloppy. Caution: birds love to poop on this dock and the smell and mess can be a bit much.

Safe haven in a storm, 2014-04-17
Captain: , George West (80)

After traveling offshore in lousy seas and coming in the ship channel in the dark, it was an easy entrance and docking. Electricity that worked and protection from the wind and waves. Got a good nights sleep but couldn't find any restaurant nearby. So left early after filling up at the fuel dock, great guys there.

Captain R Ledford, Amarillo, TX, 2014-03-16
Captain: , Amarillo, Tx (20)

We were towed into GYB after having some mechanical failures. We were permitted a transient slip, and stayed for one month. Fuel Dock and services plentiful.

Nothing special but not bad, 2012-10-30
Captain: , Lake Travis Texas (85)

We needed an overnight. Arranged after hours arrival. They gave us our slip number on the phone so we would know where to park. Never came into actual contact with anyone but that was our timing, not their problem. Dock in decent shape, breakwater works and the power solid so we were happy, got a good nights sleep and left. It is a car or bike ride to the sea wall but lots there once you arrive.

Coming back strong, 2012-08-13
Captain: , Galveston Texas (57)

I have been at GYB for two years and she has come a long way. The new owners are doing a lot to bring her back to pre IKE. Its a great place and getting better with the Cafe and Restaurant coming soon. The pool has been refinished and is really nice!!!

Good for Snacks and Stretching Legs, not for Restrooms, 2010-06-01
Captain: , Corpus Christi, TX (148)

The restrooms were two portable potty restooms that haven't been cleaned out in a really long time, so long that the waste was approaching the toilet seat entrance! You can buy ice adn snacks there, but if you want a real restroom, plan to walk to Seawall Blvd for the restaurants.

Nothing nearby, 2010-04-19
Captain: , Clear Lake (72)

If you don't have a bike, be prepared to cab to ANYTHING. Besides the bait shop, there is nothing for at least a mile. Facilities were pretty good (shower, bathrooms, power, etc).

Galveston Yacht Basin, 2009-12-01
Captain: , Patterson, La (1441)

MOst economical place to overnight on the East end of the island, that is not saying much!
Concrete fixed docks. Old and narrow by todays standards. Most are covered.
Easy biking distance to town and even the beach thos that is several miles. It it easy, very easy to get around Galveston, the old part of town out to around 50th street. Numbered streets run north and south and all east to west streets are letters. Neat and easy.
All the touristy stuff is within the said biking distance. Head over to the Beach Blvd and ride the seawall for miles.
Plenty of local restaurants plus all the chains.

Galveston Yacht Basin, 2009-07-06
Captain: , houston, tx (393)

I've stayed at GYB twice this season (early May and JUne). The facilities are coming back still from Ike. The water depth is good an the slips large enough for 45 to 50 foot boats. The dock roaches are severe. Carry spray and douse the bollards and cleats!. The comcrete seawall does a nice job protecting from ship traffic, but is tall and blocks all wind, but the electrical service is sound, 50 amp.

Avoid like the plague!, 2009-06-05
Captain: , Fairhope, AL (167)

Spent one transient night here. Never again. Staff could not have cared less. The lady at the fuel dock didn't catch lines and literally told me, "I just work here." Didn't know where the dock was they rented me, and didn't care to find out. Once I found it, nothing worked. Too bad, it has all the makings of a fantastic spot.

Overcoming Ike, 2009-03-20
Captain: , Kemah, TX (10)

Ike almost destroyed this marina, however the staff is doing a great job with rebuilding. We took our 34' Silverton to spend the March 2009 Spring Break to Galveston and docked at the Galveston Yacht Basin. No regrets. I recommend this yacht basin to everyone. As of March 20, diesel was available, however NO gasoline. Bait store is courteous and freindly.
