Reviews for Front Street Shipyard
Best Service I've ever received , 2016-09-25
Captain: , Charleston SC (733)

What a pleasant change from the all to common attitudes, competence and service levels at many marine services now days.
Our galley stove finally died after 30 years. We bought a replacement from Hamiltons and brought it to Front Street for installation. Start to finish they made a 2 hour job of it ( I was expecting more like 4 or 5)

That even included a thorough clean up. I plan to look for more work for them on Willet when we return next summer. We ended up staying two nights and found their end of the harbor much calmer than the public moorings. Belfast is a cool little town and we had time to eat and shop at Chase's Daily as well.

Well done FSSY! Another very satisfied customer. Thank you.

Great Service and Repairs, 2016-08-23
Captain: , Newport RI (470)

We came to Front Street with an inop alternator and got a spot on a float. The electrician was diligent with troubleshooting and did not just start replacing parts and guessing. It took some time to find, but both alternators had failed from a faulty fuse to the regulators. Then we had an issue with our black water tank vent. The yard was good to work us into their busy schedule and the invoice was very reasonable. Paul, one of the service managers, was super. We were very pleased with the great service and thoroughly enjoyed Belfast since we were there over the weekend. Great breakfast at Tracie's Diner and the Co-op has super natural foods. Good bike shop in town also. We bought a map there for a couple of good rides.

Unbelievable Service!, 2016-08-03
Captain: , Morattico Va. (40)

This is without a doubt the most well run and friendly Marina/Boat Yard I have ever attended. We had an appointment for Monday Morning August 1st and by 7:45 Supervisors were on the boat with a pad and pen in hand taking notes. Technicians arrived by 8am and by the end of work the second day all issues were resolved. A courtesy car is available for use by slip holders and the dock master's office bends over backwards to make sure all is well including daily newspapers gratis. Being from Virginia, I'll now have to make the trip to Maine to have any work done on our yacht.....but what's not to like!!

Friendly, Skilled, and Resourceful, 2015-08-26
Captain: , Oriental, N.C. (352)

We brought our 46' trawler in with a leaking water pump on the generator and a windlass with failed clutch cones. They had the pump ready for us when we arrived and installed in about one hour. The windlass proved more difficult. The diagrams provided by the manufacturer did not match our model, but the yard persisted until the correct parts were secured. All of this research took time and the yard was very fair in their billing. The showers and laundry are very clean and the staff is uniformly courteous. I would come back here for any work I might need.
PS - Belfast is a good place to be stuck.

Pleased with Diagnosis & Remedy of 12V Issues, 2015-08-25
Captain: , Edgewood, RI (117)

We were pleased by quick diagnosis of the causes of our 12 volt issues, the reasonable estimate, the knowledgeable & experienced workers and management's efforts to control costs. Indications are that the multiple issues with our 12 volt generating, storage and inverting systems have been resolved to allow refrigeration, ice making and usual life while on the hook.

Very ACCOMMODATING, 2015-08-16
Captain: , Glen Cove, NY (281)

Transient Dockage is a very small part of this Full Service Ship Yard; yet the Marina Staff goes out of their way to WELCOME VISITING YACHTS, large and small. Dock staff visited us at least once each day of our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely come here again; MOST CERTAINLY IF ANY WORK OR REPAIRS NEEDED!

First class, great service. , 2014-07-24
Captain: , Epilogue (326)

While cruising in our trawler, we spent a couple of days in Belfast.

While doing routine engine check before traveling on, I noticed a coolant leak. I checked it out but did not see the cause. FSS service manager Justin Weigleb assigned mechanic Mike to solve the problem...took him about 5 minutes to make the needed repair.

Fast, efficient, and could not have been more reasonable!

Fantastic Front Street, 2013-09-12
Captain: , Hamble, UK (876)

We needed to be lifted to repair some through hull fittings and FSM could not have been more accommodating. Managed to fit us into their schedule for a lift and although we had only intended to be in the slings for max of 2 hours, the job became a 2 day marathon, they happily chocked us up and ensured their workmen were available as soon as possible for us. They even touched up the anti fouling where the straps had rubbed and put a bit on the keel bulb which had not enjoyed the Chesapeake mud!

There is a lot of investment going on at this yard - a 450 metric tonne lift is being built at the moment which will be the biggest north of Newport. We wondered how they will cope with the tidal issues when this is operational, but the Deputy Manager, Mike, was very instructive about how and when to come in to cope with our 7.2' draft as the marina does get very shallow at LW and there is quite a tide running. The laundry looked all brand new and the individual shower rooms were great.

We ate at the 3 Tides tapas-type bar which was very enjoyable (ask why it is called this...!) but there were many places to choose from. The marina lent me a car so I could do a grocery run to Hannafords, visiting Sears and a huge consignment store next door to Hannafords with just about anything you care to mention. The town of Belfast is very attractive and among the grand bookshops, clothes stores and art galleries still has a real, proper hardware shop on the mainstreet run by some very knowledgeable staff.

Summer 2012 Docked at Front Street Shipyard Marina, 2012-11-14
Captain: , Boca Raton (127)

We docked our 40ft double cabin at FSS for the summer and could not be more pleased. The staff was accommodating and profesional. When we did some prop dmage in the Barred Islands, we were quickly lifted back at FSS and propellers changed-great.

Good work and reasonable prices, 2012-09-04
Captain: , Chebeague Island (929)

We have now had "Barbara" serviced (bottom paint and misc maintenance) twice at FSS -- the work was well done and the cost was very reasonable. They really put the customer first and it shows everywhere, in friendliness, in their readiness to accomodate special concerns, and in going the extra mile. This year we had to launch the dinghy off the boat because the deck was to be painted, and we left it at a float; the dock rew kept it bailed without our asking and without charge. Just a case ibn oint.

Travel lift, 2012-03-03
Captain: , Belfast,me (40)

The friendly folks are adding more dock space and the travel lift is huge (200 ton). They can repair of build anything you might need.

Top Notch!, 2011-08-22
Captain: , Belfast Maine (111)

We had our Trawler out on a bareboat charter - the charterers looked good on paper, but.... After running the boat aground near Swan's Island we had them immediately return it to Belfast where it was effortlessly pulled in the new 150 ton travelift. J.B. Turner's crew quickly assessed the (to us massive)damage and reaassured us they could handle it quickly (Summer doesn't last long in Maine). That same Friday I recieved a call that all work was completed, the boat was back on her mooring and the cost was less than anticipated. These guys were great!

A mega-yacht facility opening in Belfast, 2011-07-04
Captain: , Castine, Maine (110)

I recently attended an open house for the new Front Street Marina in Belfast, with deep, accessible water, a major (160ton, I think) mobile lift and new storage facilities. This is going to be an impressive operation, and is run by folks who really know boatbuilding, yacht design, yacht management, repair and maintenance. It is a huge new facility, and will change boating in Maine for the better.
