Reviews for Scotia Municipal Docks @ Freedom Park
One of the nicest stops., 2017-08-07
Captain: , Swifts Neck Wareham, MA (472)

It features newish docks with water and electric. We were all alone the whole 3 days we stayed. Awesome live big band music in the park, and a water skiing show! Easy walking distance to IGA, and other stores, Restaurants too. Honor system payment envelopes provided. 30 dollars a night. Well worth it.

Great Stop, 2017-07-20
Captain: , Pearl Harbor, HI (703)

Belated post; we were here from July 2 til the 5th while the canal folks cleared locks and dams of flood debris due to recent thunderstorms that dumped "tons" of water upstream uprooting a large amount of trees. Groceries are at an IGA store about 3/4 miles away; easy walk or bike with no hills. Park folks came by one to see how things were going.

Recent Docks Nice!, 2017-06-15
Captain: , Campbell Creek, NC (564)

6/14/17: Village of Scotia town docks ... like new docks, great shape. Four "big boat" slips with electric and water. Four slips without electric/water. Finger piers are wide and about 36-40' long.
Very good wifi. Antenna is by the dock and code is on the city pamphlet of businesses within walking distance.
Wednesday nights, starting next week with Taylor Hicks, there is a free concert weekly at small grass amphitheater in the park right by the docks.
US Ski Show Team supposed to practice there on tues and thurs ... should be a good show.
Great for walking the dog.
There is a large lake on the other side of the park where dogs could swim. We didn't have time to try that.
Short Walk to ice cream shop. We did try that!
Free to stop during the day.
Overnight is $20 plus $10 of you use electric. Total $30 per night for us.
Cash only! Park worker comes by at 7am, 3pm and 8pm to collect OR, there is a honor system ... slip form to fill out and envelopes to drop your payment into a locked box.

Great overnight spot, 2017-06-13
Captain: , Portsmouth, NH (471)

Docks are in great new shape. There are 4 40ft finger slips and 6 32ft slips plus a face dock about 70ft long. Depths at dock are 8-10 ft. Power for 4 boats. Water. Pay at the Dropbox. $20/night plus $10 for power. Close to lots of restaurants and playing fields, picnic tables and barbecues. Try Mohawk taproom, lots of good beers. The comment on being a private dock might be referring to the us water ski show team dock, which is further up the channel near jumping jack. Great to watch them practice. We saw depths of min 8.5 ft on the approach, if you stay in the center of the channel.

Great to explore Schenectady and Scotia at reasonable price, 2016-09-14
Captain: , Willsboro Bay Marina (2471)

We were helped by Jim who is the dock attendant for the Town of Scotia. Very friendly. Free wifi at the Green shack North-East of the Freedom Park. Very quiet and pleasant surrounding. We had drinks and appetizer at Angelo's Tavolo in the basement of the Glen Saunders Mansion. The Ducth Stockade in Schenectady is quite beautiful architecture.

hidden jewel, 2016-08-07
Captain: , mobile, al (171)

Stayed here for two days while lock 11 was being repaired. We draw 4.5 and another boat traveling with us drew 5. No problems getting in. Town couldn't have been more welcoming, even had a free concert Sat. night at the park (Salsa).

Favorite Erie canal stop, 2016-08-01
Captain: , Newburgh,NY (110)

We stopped here on a hot July 24 Sunday. Dock was $20 plus $10 for power. Very nice park setting, short walk to Jumpin Jacks was a great summer meal. It seemed like the whole town was there, but did not feel crowded. Free concert at Freedom Park was a joy. This was our favorite stop along the Erie.

Don't Miss jumpin Jacks, 2016-07-26
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (420)

My navionics chart shows deeper water near Isle of Cayoga. Not so, follow Navigation instructions which say to stay in center. Also the number provided no longer gets you to city clerk. Call 518 374 3195. They will send someone from the park service to assist. We were treated to a water ski show while there. Very pleasant stay at a bargain price.

nice docks , quiet location, 2016-06-20
Captain: , Sodus Bay, New York (250)

easy entry staying well off mark 100. 8' all the way in. docks with power come first and have sturdy 40' finger piers. good soft serve at jumpin jacks, little league ballgame across the street. 15 minute walk to food store for a few fresh supplies. everything easy to find. $30 slip with power was a bargain for us on 95 degree day.

Great rates on a basic dockage, 2016-06-15
Captain: , Austin, TX (32)

For $30 you get a secure tie up with 50 amp power and water. Approach had over 7' all the way in. Town of Scotia is like something out of the 50's. Walked to a small family owned movie theatre, then got a banana split and chocolate malt at Jumpin' Jack's Drive Inn. Wholesome Americana.

Nice over night stop with some stores nearby, 2016-06-14
Captain: , Greenport, NY (437)

On June 14 we found the docks in great shape. We called ahead using the number provided and the call was answered on the City Clerk's office. They were knowledgeable about the docks and they called the Parks department to help us dock. The Parks department came over with no fewer than 5 guys.

We had 10.6 feet of water at the dock and the minimum that we saw in the Chanel was 6.9.

We docked at the longer dock that is parallel with the shore. The electric peristalsis are on the opposite end so we ran 75 ft of 30 amp cord down the dock.

We enjoyed the peaceful setting of Freedom Park and an afternoon meal at Jumpin Jacks. We were the only over night boat on the docks.

From the posted schedule, it appears that most park activities are Friday, Saturday, and Wednesday.

Caution when counting staying here!, 2016-05-17
Captain: , Erie, PA (67)

Docks might be great, but as of May 17 the docks aren't in yet. Bypassed Schenectady Yacht Club to find no docks in unmarked, skinny water. Published phone number was for a pager. Not many opportunities to stop elsewhere after this point, so we had to backtrack to SYC, which is a great member-run club. Would have saved us a lot of time if the phone # went to a recording or a person.

New docks since Irene in 2011., 2015-08-19
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7375)

Pleasant stop, docks in great condition. Only 2 power pedestals, normally 4 boats can hook up. One of few spots on the Erie without either train or I-90 traffic noise, very quiet night. Very popular park with locals, lots of people walking, playing in ball park. Music events and water skiing near the docks.

Good place for a stop over., 2015-07-15
Captain: , Vaudreuil-sur-le-lac (145)

The docks managed by parks crew and they are in a very good condition. Very friendly and helpful staff, they respond to our call within 20 minutes. Lots of facilities within a walking distance. Drive-In and ice cream shop (Jumpin' Jacks) a block away, restaurants, shops, wine & Spiits, public library, post office in town.

Great Little Village, 2015-06-18
Captain: , San Francisco (130)

Docks managed by parks crew, their workshop is just across the road. Very friendly, helpful staff. Call number posted & enter your phone # for call-back. Classic Drive-In and ice cream shop (Jumpin' Jacks) a block away, restaurants, shops, public library, post office in town a short walk.
Park has tennis courts, is well maintained and used a lot by community. Walk (or bike) south over bridge to Scenectady and you are in the Historic District with some great pubs and restaurants.

clarification on transient dockage, 2015-06-14
Captain: , Portsmouth,OH (50)

Yes, there is a private dock clearly marked here. Collins park / Scotia Landing has more slips than the private area next door. Nice area and walking distance for food and supplies. $20 a night (plus $10 for electricity) if the attendant comes to collect. So far they didn't respond to our calls meaning no electricity was turned on. Not a problem for us as we have a generator. Overall nice stop.

Scotia Town Dock, 2014-07-01
Captain: , Massapequa,NY (1176)

New floating docks right next to a park. Free stay during the day. $20 for overnight, $10 for electric, 30 & 50 amp available. Town & restaurants are close by. They have concerts in the park & a water ski show along the canal. Perfect stop.

Now private dock, 2014-05-22
Captain: , Roswell, GA (467)

Went to this location hoping to overnight but it is now well marked as a private dock.

Good Overnight stop, 2013-08-10
Captain: , North Port, Florida (20)

Spent two nights tied up here attending to family matters and I must say Scotia has done a good job providing a decent facility. The on duty dockmaster worked very hard to insure we had electrical service (they were hit with very hight water just days before). There is an air conditioned head available, but it is closed after hours and there are no other creature comforts available. However; there is a two meal snack bar within a very shrt walking distance and on most weekends in the summer, there is a show of some sorts at the park. All in all, not bad.
