Reviews for Fort Edward (free dock)
Clarification, 2016-08-23
Captain: , Herrington Harbour South, MD (202)

This location on the chart refers to a wooden floating dock located to the north side of Lock 7 on the west bank of the canal. Boats can tie up for free, but there is no water or elecric and it's about a mile walk into town.

Some of the reviews here are referring to the tie-up wall in the Fort Edwards yacht basin, the entrance to which is immediately to the south of Lock 7 on the west side of the canal. The channel to the basin is about 1/2 mile long and marked by navigational aids. There is a separate listing for reviews of the yacht basin.

It would be helpful if the inconsistencies in the "Facility information" section for this floating dock could be corrected to indicate that there is no AC power or water.

What's Not To Like?!, 2016-06-28
Captain: , Lexington, Kentucky (160)

The wall is free as is the power. There is water, too. The town is one block from the wall. We walked two blocks to the Anvil Restaurant and had a great meal.

Very low wood floating dock, 2016-06-07
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (2073)

Good dock for overnight stay. No water, electric, or restrooms. 7 feet of water at middle of dock.

ANOTHER GREAT STOP, 2015-08-06
Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1543)

You can't beat these stops on the Champlain Canal. Free dock, electric, water, and very clean rest rooms. Not much doing in town except for a very interesting museum about a half mile away. Seems Solomon Northrup author of 12 Years A Slave lived here. George Washington also visited during the revolution. If you have the time it a worthwhile stop.

Can't Beat Free, 2014-10-10
Captain: , Doylestown, Pa. 18902 (414)

The wall with the cleats is a little high for smaller boats. Nice location just a mile or so off the entrance to the Champlain canals lock #7. Great place to hang if the canal hours would leave stuck on the canal. The wall had power, water and the bathrooms were open all night and were clean. Showers cost a dollar(4 quarters)This located in a nice park like setting. Italian Restaurant a block away is ok and a Stewart convience store gas station is a block or two to the right at the entrance to the bridge which has ice and usual convience store items. It's about $7.50 one way for a cab ride up to Glen Falls and it's nice town to walk and has great restaurants.

Wrong dock, 2012-07-12
Captain: , Oneida, TN (415)

The two previous reviews (referring to showers) are essentially correct, but refer to the Ft. Edward Yacht Basin around the corner, not THIS free dock. Capt. Sterling's description is accurate.

Women's shower not working as of 5/5/12, 2012-06-05
Captain: , Bainbridge Island, WA (343)

The electric & water are working, and the restrooms are fine, but the women's shower takes your quarters & won't give up any water. Women have been going in & using the men's shower, which provides water without requiring quarters--go figure!

There's a good pizza/sub place about a block away, and the public library is open in the afternoon with free wifi, also about a block away. There's a signboard with maps of the local area that show the stores.

Free Dock with Electric, water, showers., 2011-10-05
Captain: , Wilson NY (66)

Well protected wall with Elect - 30amp, water, and public toilets with $1.00(coins) showers. Couple of Restaurants and convenients stores and hardware in close walking distance.

Free floating dock at small park, 2009-07-02
Captain: , Key Largo (5340)

long side tie to floating docks, no water or electric, 48 hour limit.
