You can take a somewhat steep hike to the top of the mountain that surrounds Francois. The trails are very well maintained with steps, ramps, boardwalks, and signs. There is also a trail that goes over to the next fjord. There are reported to be lots of blueberries.

Reviews for Francois Bay and Harbor
Charming Outport, 2015-09-11
Captain: , Deer Isle, Maine (514)

A charming and picturesque outport nestled up against the side of the mountains. The floating dock had no electricity and no water that we could find, but seemed quite secure. It is still located at the very head of the harbor. In early July nobody came around to collect any dockage fees. The view from the top of the trail to the reservoir and cemetery is splendid. The locals were very friendly. Provisions at the general store we stopped at were a bit sparse, but then this is not a place to come to stock up.

And a waterfall runs through it - a gem of a village, 2014-08-19

Locals helped us tie up 7/17/2014. Enjoyed meeting many diverse townspeople. Loved walking on the many paths, catwalks over waterfalls and bold brooks, shopped at both gorcery stores and talked to their last lobster fisherman. No cars here. Will definitely return for another visit to this village holding on to their history and community. This is a true outport community in a truly magical spot. Waterfalls along the entrance to the harbour are entrancing, too. Do visit the town museum and leave a donation.

5 Star "Outport", 2014-07-26
Captain: , Sebastian, Florida (387)

One of the few surviving outports as of summer 2014. Beautiful location!! Friendly inhabitants. Long floating dock at head of harbour for transients. For you American folks dockage is only about 38 cents a foot. No electric. Water is available if you have a long hose. Two stores and a liquor store. Several excellent walks in the surrounding hills. Diesel is available. Wifi available at dock as of 2014.

Two floating docks, 2014-07-24

There are two floating docks controlled by the harbour authority. The fee is $1/meter.

Impressive approach to a most friendly town, 2012-07-09
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (578)

Hanging along the rim of what looks like the bottom of a volcano, the town of Francois is very hospitible and beautiful. No good anchoring here but not trouble finding wharf space. The well-maintained trails up at the top afford incredible views. We were furtunate enough to visit during their "Come Home" celebration so the town was especially lively.

a Very well protected harbour., 2012-02-22

A very nice harbour and the scenic trail up into and across the hills around the harbour should not be missed! lots of water filled tubs in the rocks for a bath in sun heated fresh water.

Splendid Isolation, 2010-08-10
Captain: , Barnegat NJ USA (610)

Francois (pronounced "france-ways") is the most distant inhabited village from any major road in Atlantic Canada. It is reachable only by ferry. It is also extremely hospitable and splendidly scenic.
