Reviews for Flo's Conch Bar
good old island bar & restaurant, 2016-04-09
Captain: , Philadelphia (296)

We stopped here just to see this place and have dinner on the way from Great Harbor Marina to Nassau. Chester was at Great Harbor stocking up on supplies. But eventually his boat showed up and he decided to open up for dinner. Actually Lovely did.
Cool little place. More like a food shack then a restaurant but in it's own way attractive. Sitting up on the hill. Bring a fllshlight to return down to the dock. Great sunset. Anchorage is nearby, can be very rocky. Too shallow to get close to the dock.
Conch fritters are really good. Fish fry too.
We will stop again.

It's OK...not that special, 2016-01-09
Captain: , Winter Garden, Fl (2153)

Yes, the food was very good. Yes, it's the only restaurant within several miles/islands...not much competition. And, yes, you are going to pay a premium for the experience.

The night we went, Chester was hung over - badly. He might have said ten words the entire evening - even after six of us had drinks and full dinners. I wasn't expecting a floor show, but a little more pleasant for the amount of money we put down would have been nice.

Conch Fritters are worth the trip, 2015-04-26
Captain: , Dallas, TX (714)

Called on 68 a day ahead and placed our order. Kenneth was very entertaining as we enjoyed the best conch fritters we have experienced. We also tried the pan fried conch and the grouper fingers which were excellent as well. The slaw and peas & rice were also very good. We anchored behind Cabbage Cay and took the tender to Flo's. We went at low tide and the approach to Flo's was very shallow.

A True Bohimian Experience, 2015-04-21
Captain: , Slidell, La. (1055)

A hole in the wall place is usually what has the best food and this is definetely the case with Flo's. We called the day before to arrange a reservation and were told to call back the next day on the radio on channel 68 between 12-3 to confirm. Fortunately we were able to obtain a reservation. There are no real menu selections so you will get whatever they have on special that day. We had grouper and conch and it was delicious along with peas and rice and cole slaw. While we were there we read an old article about the history of Flo's and read that the conch fritters were excellent, but we missed that opportunity to try them. So someone needs to try them and let us know! A bit of an effort to get here if you don't watch the tides so be prepared if you are in anything other than a dinghy. Good food and another great Bohimian experience.

An Exceptional Experience, 2015-04-02
Captain: , Everett WA (413)

As a restaurant this is a 3 or 4 star, but as an experience it is a solid 5 star. You can only get here by small boat and the ride here and the setting is spectacular. Food choices don't exist, you get what is fresh. And the food was good. Drink choices were beer or rum punch.

If you have a chance to come here, don't miss it.

Good food..., 2015-03-17
Captain: , Madisonville (30)

Chester and staff are putting out great food at a reasonable price for being in the middle of nowhere....give him advance notice and you will get a great meal...

Wonderful experience..., 2015-03-17
Captain: , Castine, ME (58070)

I would have normally rated this at 4 stars but some of the previous reviews seem unjustified so I'm giving Flo's an extra star.

We had a wonderful trip to Flo's and their dock. We called ahead to make reservations. The surrounding setting is breathtaking. The facilities are worn but it's amazing that they even exist in what seems like the middle of nowhere.

I can't understand how others didn't find the food exceptional. Everything was fresh, well cooked, and delicious. Don't expect a normal restaurant menu - you'll get whatever is fresh.

The restaurant area was enjoyable for our party of 8. The price seemed in-line and within expectation.

There is no question I'd go back again and I'd actively suggest others to go. And really, that matters more than whatever number of stars I gave the review.

Flo's Gone - Conch Bar might as well be, 2014-10-29
Captain: , Gainesville, Florida (195)

With Flo's passing, this place really has nothing to recommend. entrance channel silted in about 4 years ago, so anchoring and dinghying in is required. Sadly another Bahamian landmark has gone away.

No Flo no conch fritters, 2012-04-11
Captain: , Dinner Key Marina (32)

Stopped by for a visit but found no one to be around. When we radioed in some guy on Mega Yacht said he would make us some food but without Chester around we didn't see the point.

It is still worth a visit if you are in the area to see the mountains of empty conch shells.

Enjoyed the visit, 2011-10-29

Ate here and found it to be unique with cold beer. Food was served family style and was OK.

Maybe just a bad day, 2011-05-18
Captain: , Greenville TX (580)

We were really disappointed here - maybe Chester was just having a bad day -- not friendly at all, famous rum punch was basically hi-C and some rum, food was okay. Nice view from the restaurant area however.
