Reviews for Fishing Bay Marina
Nice marina, but..., 2017-09-07
Captain: , Hampton (41)

Staff is very nice, and the courtesy car most useful for trips to West Marine and/or groceries. if you are counting on a pumpout here, best to call first. The last couple of times we were there it wasn't working.

Love this place, 2017-06-27
Captain: , United kingdom (30)

Small and very friendly, can't do enough for you here. Great swimming pool. Great dock prices. Although the fuel price is a little high. The laundry has only one washer and one dryer, shame as it can be a wait sometimes.

Jon Farinholt and His Awesome Marina, 2017-06-07
Captain: , Middle River, MD (30)

Jon Farinholt, the owner of Fishing Bay Marina is the epitome of a professional, knowledgeable, caring marina owner. A month ago, I was towed into his marina by the USCG after losing my engine and main sail in 5 foot waves out near Tangier Island. We were lucky enough to land in Jon's marina and we could not have been luckier. Being involved with BSA Sea Scouts, Jon extended to us every hospitality imaginable and was patient with us as we worked to continue the boat delivery from Norfolk to Back River. If you are so lucky to meet and talk with Jon at Fishing Bay, you will be talking and dealing with a fine marina owner and a true professional. I just can't say enough about my experiences with his marina and his staff. A beautiful facility and some fine Southern hospitality!!!!!!

Good marina for a stop, 2017-05-28
Captain: , Camden, Maine (100)

Owner very kind and accomadating. Good, but not great facility (getting tired). Very nice, but not too well trained dock hands.

Fishing Bay Marina, 2016-07-14
Captain: , Customs House Marina, Hampton, Virginia (90)

Great marina with friendly staff. Fishing bay is awesome for anchoring, with great holding and protection from all but the south. For 10.00/person, you can anchor out and use all the facilities, including: bicycles, showers, swimming pool, captains lounge, and borrow the marina car for a grocery run.

Good access, facilities and accommodations, not that convenient access to the town, 2016-06-28
Captain: , New castle, DE (553)

This is a good marina to reach, with ample space, well-maintained docks and facilities. There are swimming pool, grilles and captain's lounge there. Bicycles are available on site (must have, as the nearest grocery store is 2 miles away). Staff (when on site and not busy) is friendly and helpful. Transient slip is easy to dock to. Pump-out is free for transient customers.

Super Service, 2016-05-14
Captain: , Southport Queensland (300)

Unloaded our dinghy at their fuel dock for repairs at Chesapeake Boat Works next door. John the new owner was very welcoming and guided us in the rigght direction. Docked again two days later for reloading and no charge either time. Under new ownership the marina is getting well deserved work but an excellent alternative to Deltaville nd you can actually anchor in the bay.

Great People - Very Nice Facility - Good Value, 2015-11-23
Captain: , Road Harbour - BVI (789)

We stayed here for a week ducking out of some weather on the bay. This is by far the easiest marina to enter in the Deltaville area. There is deep water all the way to the docks and a well marked lighted channel from the bay. Other marinas in the Deltaville area require transit of narrow channels often with less than 7%u2019 depth. In cross winds these channels can be treacherous. We later witnessed a boat hard aground trying to enter the notorious channel for Dozier's Regatta Point during 20 knot cross winds.

India, the dock mistress, is very pleasant and professional. She managed to squeeze us in knowing she would have to juggle some boats about to accommodate us. Her efforts were greatly appreciated. We tied to the fuel dock overnight and moved to a more permanent location the next morning.

Outside of the marina is a safe well protected anchorage with excellent holding. Our back up plan was to wait in this area. There is a $5 fee to dock the dinghy if this option is chosen.

The facilities are very nice with a big pool and clean restrooms and showers. They have a very nice grill area with new gas grills.

There is not very much to do in the small town of Deltaville.

Great Marina, 2015-09-25
Captain: , Kilmarnock VA (10)

We spent two nights here recently (September 2015) and found it an extremely pleasant experience. The marina is tucked into Fishing Bay and very well protected from wind and waves. There are fixed docks at one end and the floating docks farther in are new and in great condition. Bathrooms are very clean-there is one just near the floating docks and others by the pool. There is a laundry and a lounge with TV, videos, games and books. The pool looks inviting (we didn't use it this time). India is an extraordinary dockmaster, helpful and pleasant. She was there to help us tie up and had already done research to assist us with an engine problem we had told her about when we booked the slip. Chesapeake Boat Works (next door) sent a mechanic over to change some filters and check things over and all seemed improved with our engines once we departed. A very dog friendly environment with various open areas for walks and play. The marina is in Deltaville, nothing very close by, but a courtesy car is available, as are bicycles. There are a few restaurants, a grocery store and a West Marine all within a couple of miles of the marina.

Great Destination or Stopover, 2015-09-08
Captain: , Yorktown, Virginia (30)

Would be 5 stars with upgraded docks. Although a hike up the hill to restrooms, pool, Captains' Lounge, laundry and outdoor grills it is well worth it to use the top notch facilities. Also loaner bikes and SUV make getting into town for needed supplies easy. The staff, under dockmaster India, are attentive and were on hand for both arrival and departure from the transient slips. Made two trips there this year in June for 3 days and again for the Labor Day weekend (4 days). Under new ownership this year it looks like more improvements may be coming.

Really nice folks and facility, 2015-09-04
Captain: , Honolulu (712)

Complete facility located near Deltaville. Huge pool, captains lounge, clean modern restrooms and showers, laundry. Quiet, peaceful docks. Two courtesy cars. Stayed 9/23-26

A Great Stop, 2015-09-03
Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

The facilities are very nice with sturdy docks and plenty of deep water, an inviting pool, and a great field for the canine crew to romp in. Everything is clean and well maintained. Fishing Bay is a very pretty spot to relax or have some work done at the boat yard. This is a great place for just a couple of nights or an extended stay. And the best bonus is India, the helpful, knowledgable, and very friendly harbormaster. Thank you for your hospitality, India!

Nice place, 2015-07-27
Captain: , Elizabeth City, NC (110)

The staff was friendly and helpful, and the pool was a sweet relief during a heat advisory week. The transient and fuel dock pilings have rubber bumpers on them which is a nice touch. Its the small things that help make people feel welcome. I think they use handheld VHF so wait until you are close to call or use the phone.

Nice convenient stop, 2015-07-13
Captain: , Knoxville, Tennessee (230)

Very easy in and out just off the Chesapeake. Plenty of depth. Transient dock is a face tie up so easy docking. Huge Olympic size pool with a big grassy park behind it.

Great Marina - Helpful Harbormasters, 2015-06-17
Captain: , Sebastian, FL (10)

We just stayed here for two nights, and couldn't be happier with the service we received. John and India (the harbormasters) are both very friendly and engaging. The facilities are quite nice and thoughtfully maintained. I would strongly recommend this marina.

An up and coming marina on a beautiful river!, 2015-04-01
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (666)

We stayed there the day/night of 31st March 2015. We were seeking protected area away from a Chesapeake Bay beset with fronts and accompanying winds.

The new owner is making very strong efforts to impmrove the facility. A new wifi was being installed while we were there. While the rest rooms and showers are a bit of a walk away (we need exercise after sitting on a boat all day!) they are quite nice.

There is a full service boat yard next door (they now own the marina).

The only down side is that the marina is 1.5 miles from Deltaville, the marina does have bicyles.

One very important observation. The manager, India, took a call at home at about 8pm requesting fuell for a disabled sailboat. She was there to assist. About 0100 the USCG brought the disabled sailboat -- torn staysail and inoperable engine into the marina.

Oct 23 to Nov 30, 2014-11-21
Captain: , Rock Hall (60)

We cannot say enough good things about this marina. Had to medivac the mate by dinghy while we were anchored in Fishing Bay. Appendicitis. Used the 3 week delay to have a beautiful enclosure made by Ships Tailor and Chesapeake Boat works replace house batteries and service engine and fix two longstanding engine problems. Very friendly and helpful marina staff. Nice clean facilities.

If you need to get off the bay, 2014-11-17
Captain: , Kingston, NY (190)

After coming off the bay with strong winds and heavy chop, we stopped at this marina. The area offers some protection from heavy winds. As mentioned, the facilities are a bit of a walk, but are clean and maintained. Not much in walking distance.

Nice Marina, 2014-10-02
Captain: , Frog Mortar Creek, MD (180)

Staff were personable and helpful. Long hike to bath facilities and pool was a negative. Bicycles available for 1-2 mile ride to stores for groceries, alcohol, restaurants. Time intensive access from the Ches Bay to and from the marina was a negative. Due to this reason did not stay at this marina on return trip up the Bay.

Very Friendly, 2014-09-21
Captain: , New Smyrna Beach, Fl. (200)

Very nice folks. Waited past closing for me to arrive to buy diesel. Great pool & showers. Free bikes to ride to 7/11 or the market, which are 1 and 2 miles away, respectively. Would stay here again.

Peaceful setting, helpful staff, 2014-07-17
Captain: , Oriental, NC (20)

Enjoyed the setting in a peaceful bay. Staff went out of their way to get us tied up promptly and then helped solve an electrical problem where the A/C would not work. They could not seem to do enough to ensure our stop was enjoyable. Will definitely return. thanks guys.

Comfortable place to return to, 2013-10-22
Captain: , Michigan (583)

After staying here at least 10 times, it's still a comfortable stop for us. I agree it is a hike to the baths, laundry and lounge and the wifi is spotty at best this time but will definitely return in the spring. The women's showers are clean, private, and well lit.

Fishing Bay Harbor Marina, 2013-07-15
Captain: , annapolis (391)

Very handy marina with personnel anxious to please.
Docks old, pilings splintery, wifi uncertain at least at the furthermost transient dock. They will drive you about a mile to West Marine (or get the stuff for you) or to a restaurant. Immense swimming pool which we did not use. Easy to spot when entering for first time since all dock pilings have white caps. Both verizon and ATT signals OK.

Easy stop, 2012 Oct 22bnd, 2012-10-28
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (680)

Our third stop at this easy to reach marina. Great docks and good area. Used their bikes to ride to nearby town for supplies.

Great Stop Heading South, 2012-10-07
Captain: , Hollywood, MD (271)

We have stopped here several times on our way south and find it easy to get in and out of. It is well protected from wind and weather and the staff is most helpful. It is a great value. We will always make this our Deltaville stopover.

Good for Overnight, 2012-03-30
Captain: , Suffolk, VA (171)

Stopped overnight on trip south. Arrived after the staff went home but called ahead and they left paperwork and pump-out token for us. Moored at fuel dock which was conveninent, though unprotected which required care against fixed docks. Staff helpful in the AM with fuel. Long walk to bathrooms/showers which were clean byt with no privacy at all for men's showers!

Great Marina, 2011-06-28
Captain: , Fishing Bay VA (335)

My local marina. Just moved in. Facilities are clean with pool, captains lounge, bathrooms and showers which are well kept and celan. Marina has wireless available for transients. Easy approach and 15' of water all the way to the entrance. Fuel and pump out cant get any easier to reach.

Great place for what you pay, 2011-06-02
Captain: , Portsmouth (163)

The place is showing it's age, but it is kept up nicely (with big plans for the future) and everyone here is friendly and helpful. As of 2011 they charge $1.25 a foot with the US Boat discount and $9.00 a foot for a month stay. Its quiet and has lots of nice places to ride, walk and two West Marine's in town.

Stayed for a few days last year and was impressed enough to come back again.

Friendly Staff, 2011-05-23
Captain: , Caseville, MI (341)

Nice stop for a night, couple of local restaurants will pick you up for dinner, as well as a grocery store. Great Verizon aircard signal.

Fishing Bay harbor Marina, 2011-05-19
Captain: , Grand Haven, Mi (2283)

The folks here are still very helpful and friendly. One washer and dryer on site. The heads and boaters lounge are clean and well kept. A nice stop and we will use it again.

Quiet - easy going - friendly spot, 2009-10-27
Captain: , Mechanicsburg, PA (66)

Docked here in April 2008 during a heavy storm and again Oct 26, 2009. Very friendly and helpful dock hands. Nice little ships store with limited supplies. Good internet service. Secluded - long way from any restaurants or other services.

Good spot for overnight on slip, 2009-05-31
Captain: , Kingsport, TN (470)

Frendly folks and a quiet area for overnight. Deep draft boats on outer slips only. Deltaville is a realativly undeveloped town, just the way I like it. 5-31-09

Awesome, 2008-04-04
Captain: , Belhaven, NC (88)

Beautiful facility.
Helpful folks
Great restaurants nearby
Outstanding overall

Nice Stop - Fishing Bay Harbor Marina, 2007-06-23
Captain: , Mashpee, MA (541)

Stayed over night mid June 2007. Nice location, though isolated from the main part of town and the restaurants. Very nice swimming pool and clean showers, few transients. West Marine is a mile or two away but will deliver to the dock. Some restaurants will pick you up. Ask Marina manager.
