Reviews for Fisherman's Resort and Marina
Now John Henry's, 2016-07-31
Captain: , Seattle (344)

We were on the docks that open to Hospital Bay, both coming and going it was very windy, but there was a dock hand to help us. The 30 amp power plug was very loose and I had to use a velcro tie to keep it plugged in. Even then, one of my heaters kept tripping a breaker. The docks need some TLC, but hopefully the new owners will make upgrades. There is a new cafe open now that has a very good menu. Also the store is well stocked. The staff are friendly and helpful and offered me a ride to town for a part I needed, but instead the store dropped it by the marina office. Despite the wind and shore power trouble, we like the marina and we will be back.

Two Night Stay, 2016-07-30
Captain: , Liberty Bay Washington (400)

Stayed here a couple of nights before heading to Desolation. They have a few slips and one long lateral dock. Fishermans Resort and John Henry's Marina have become one. Good docks and freindly people. Small store with some groceries and a small grill but they had no cook. There is a fish and chips place just up the hill but we did not try that. Did walk up along the creek to a pub which had a small but good menu, good beer, fair food and understaffed help. But would probably try again.
Dinghed over to Madeira Park where there is a nice IGA where we bought some groceries. There is also a couple of coffee shops, liquor store and other small stores.

Very friendly place!, 2016-05-05
Captain: , Victoria, BC, Canada (24)

Had a raw water pump go out on me shortly after getting fuel next door. Trina at the resort office went out of her way to help me source a replacement pump. I wasn't even a customer at the marina at the time! Of course I ended up staying while waiting for replacement parts. It was early in the season, very quiet and a lovely stay!

Our new Fav Marina!, 2015-08-02
Captain: , Horseshoe Bay, British Columbia (40)

This is a wonderful, friendly marina. Short walking distance from a store. 15 minute dingy motor to Gov dock (IGA)- Very nice showers. Staff very friendly and accomidating. Nearby PUB was just a 10 min walk- Try the seafood chowder! We felt the place was exellent value.

Great Respite, 2014-09-23
Captain: , Blaine, WA (23)

We recently stopped for the night on the way to PLI. Reading a previous negative review we wondered what might be encountered, but decided to take a chance and were happy to have done so. We found the facilities to be clean and orderly and Dave was a very personable guy. He gave us some excellent suggestions for places to visit on the way back. We have recommended Fisherman's to others and will return when headed North again.

Good stop, friendly, 2014-09-09
Captain: , Olalla WA (412)

We stayed here 8/31/2014 and had a good stay. Very windy day, so they sent two staff to catch our lines as we're a trawler with high windage. Asked our names on arrival and called us by name later. Beautiful grounds, good restaurant nearby, and we have a signal booster so wifi worked fine at the boat. We'll come again.

very welcoming marina, 2014-09-01
Captain: , Anacortes (10)

This is our new home away from home when in Pender. The friendly staff greeted every boat that came in and seemed to know who they were. Obviously lots of returning boaters. Beautiful gardens, lawns, flower pots, decks, etc. There was a small gathering on the lawn having a jam session the afternoon we arrived :)
Easy walk to store, restaurants, pub. Moorage fees are equal or better than many of the nearby marinas. Fisherman's was one our favorite stops this season.

Dont bother, 2014-08-27
Captain: , Blaine WA (101)

We read the reviews before stopping here enroute to Desolation but in our opinion we will never go back. The good - handy to store, fuel and propane. The grounds are well kept. The docks are ok. The owner is indifferent you get the feeling he would prefer to not be disturbed. Anything but friendly.- but his wharfinger was a great guy and helped us a lot. The wifi is virtually useless - they will ask that you sit in a certain chair under a tree to get good service. I guess they see no need to spend a hundred bucks on a booster.
The exceptionally tiny washroom/shower/tolet/urinal combo is very cramped - it, and the whole building, reek of mold and mildew.
Surely there are better options in Pender.

June 2014., 2014-06-19
Captain: , Whidbey Island, WA (191)

Still a good moorage, friendly, clean, inexpensive. laid back, casual but not at all sloppy. Walking distance to good dining/pub. We will definitely stay here when in the area. They could use more bathroom facilities. There was often a line for the single ladies toilet.

Great Jumping Off Location, 2013-09-18
Captain: , Daniel Island, SC (310)

In a 25 day period, we were here 5 times. Great location to jump off to Desolation Sound and Princess Louisa Inlet. Top drawer IGA a dingy ride away, very hospitable, gracious and knowledgabe owners and very well run.

Perfect place to park after Georgia Strait, 2013-08-20
Captain: , Sacramento (173)

We have visited this marina several times, all before or after a Georgia Strait crossing. It is hard to put a finger on why it feels like such a homey place. It is the feng shui, the owners, the layout, the nice walks and the decent eats nearby. It is a terrific marina, well run and welcoming. Not pristine, just perfect.

Inviting people, clean well-kept facilities, & beautiful views, 2013-06-17
Captain: , Anacortes, WA (220)

5 Stars. I called them via cellphone from the public docks at Maderia Bay across the harbor. Jennifer answerd the phone and was very accomodating. Told us to just come over, pick any open slip and Dave would be right down to help us. As we arrived Dave was there and gave us a quick overview of the marina and facilities.

Very nice people. Just a quick 5 minute walk over to the Garden Bay Pub where thay served a fair priced delicious dinner.

Great sunset views from the dock. Beautiful well protected bay.

We will be back.

Top Notch Marina, 2013-01-28
Captain: , Crescent Beach (30)

Well-maintained. Personable helpful staff. Fantastic sunsets from the aft deck. Many of the boaters docked during our stay appeared to be repeat customers and were on a first name basis with the owner.

Great stop north or south, 2011-10-27
Captain: , Seattle, WA (312)

We always stop here whether going north or south. We first stopped here in 2000 and decided it would be a great place to telecommute from - bosses didn't agree. We loved it then and it's only gotten better. The water in the bay is warm enough for swimming, even for adults. Stock up at John Henry's; eat at the pub; good laundry facilities; free wifi.

Nice Place - Amazing Sunset View, 2011-08-17
Captain: , Vancouver (22)

5 stars because they have done a good job spiffing the place up. Washrooms and showers were bristle and the view from our cockpit at sunset was amazing.

5 minute walk to Garden bay Hotel and Pub. Food was great and live music every night in August (and perhaps other summer months).

I'm going to give them 5 stars even though i considered less because of the very strange attitude the owner Dave took when we contacted them by cell phone and not my VHF. He felt the need to provide some strange lecture and walk off in a huff. A bit bizaar but I say go visit him if your in the area. Perhaps your visit will be the one that allows him to take the vacation he apparently needs.

Great Place, 2011-06-20
Captain: , Friday Harbor, WA (490)

We have not stayed here for several years and we find this to be
A great stop.
Free wifi too !!

A great place in Pender Harbour, 2011-02-13
Captain: , Powell River (89)

Owners are very helpful and greet every boat coming in. Close to food and store. A bit off a hike to the local freshwater swimming hole. Kids liked to be able to dinghy down to John Henry's for ice cream every night. Great place to see Bill Thompson's N3N yellow float plane take off and land during his evening flights. Not sure about the big boat statement as there was a 100+ foot yacht there once.

Time after time..., 2011-01-10
Captain: , Sequim, WA (676)

We always head here when in the area. Dave is so nice and runs a great operation. Very accomodating and helpful.

Little Piece of Paradise, 2010-07-21
Captain: , Vancouver (19)

Lush gardens and green lawns, exemplary service, caring owners who remember your name from year to year--90% of boat owners come here year after year. A wonderful place to stop for a week or longer on your way up and down the coast. The washrooms are the cleanest on the coast. The staff are always very helpful and help boats in every time. Lots of room for large craft.

Wonderful Spot, 2010-07-17
Captain: , Bellingham, WA (54)

We are posting this on the Marina's free WiFi. We love it here! Very clean and tidy, but still a fun relaxed attitude. Good docks. Delightful grounds. Very helpful staff. Dave and crew have done a super job with this place. Some of the old negative reviews are definitely no longer applicable in our opinion.

PS Ice Cream and small store nearby!

Absolutely the nicest, 2010-06-28
Captain: , St. George Island, FL (102)

Dave Pritchard is as nice as can be; the marina is spotless, and everything works. Docks are soliid, and Dave is available for advice, a ferry across the harbor, or whatever else is needed. One of our favorite stops, good to and from Desolation Sound or Chatterbox Falls

Ok for the night, 2007-09-16
Captain: , Olympia (1435)

Not too bad of a place to stop for the night after crossing the strait. The docks are a bit worn, but the place is very nice.
