Reviews for Falmouth Marina
Unfriendliest Marina ever!, 2016-07-15
Captain: , Maverick too, Hamburg (40)

We have been at sea for almost two weeks and really wanted to have a peaceful nights sleep. The trip across from the azores took longer than expected, so we did not make a reservation at Falmouth Marina. The night when we arrived was pitch dark and in was difficult to find our way up the river, cause the markers were unlit and a lot of mooring-fields along the way. We were really happy to dock at 0.30 am on an empty hammerhead. Finally ashore. We took our papers with us and walked to the office, which was still brightly lit. Inside was the dockmaster, busy with a private conversation on the phone. He took a short break to tell us "we are full" and turn back to the earphone. He just did not care where we came from and what other place we could try to find a place to sleep. We can understand that a place is full %u2013 but he could have least have some nice words and tipps where we could spend the night. But the gentleman just wanted to get rid of us. He did not even try to help and try to accommodate us for a couple of hours until daylight, although we saw at least 20 empty slips on our way to the office. And even if there really was no slip %u2013 there is always some space for a 33-foot-boat in a marina or the possibility to raft up to some other boat. But the dockmaster just did not care. "As I said, we are full" %u2013 "But there are so many empty slips" %u2013 "There are boats coming tonight" %u2013 "So we have to leave?" - "Yes". In all my travels, two atlantic-circuits and a lot of time on the water, working as a sailing-journalist I think it is save to say that I never found a marina with more unfriendlier people. We were very close to setting sail and turning around, heading back across the atlantic... But then we tried Pendennis were welcomed by a very nice staff. So we stayed for a couple of nights and enjoyed the beautiful city. But we really can not recomment Falmouth Marina.

I have been a berth holder since 2009, but first overwintered here 2004/2005. The marina staff are efficient and friendly and all facilities and resources are readily available.

Good berthing facilities and excellant staff. Diesel, fresh water and electricity available. Chandlers and electronic dealers on site, also hire car and hairdressers. Service bus to town centre at Marina entrance.
