Reviews for Essex Shipyard
No service to transients anymore..., 2016-08-04
Captain: , North Hero, Vt (31)

We called them over the phone in mid july 2016 and we were told to call Essex Marina instead. So that's where we went!

No longer open to public, 2016-08-02
Captain: , Colchester, Vt (10)

We contacted Essex Shipyard for a dock today and were told they are now a private facility and no longer serves the public for dockage. Referred us to Essex Marina.

Used to be a nice place with pleasant staff, 2015-09-01
Captain: , North Hero (303)

I wanted to stop for a while but the staff was not friendly and not serviceable. They do not care about who you are. We went for Point Bay Matina instead, what a difference. for me Essex and the Shipyard are not a place to stop

Open Marina, 2015-08-28
Captain: , Lewes, DE (2517)

Upon further review and inspection found that this marina still accepts transients, but requires telephonic contact prior to docking.

small but good, 2013-09-13
Captain: , Louisville, KY (347)

Small, basic, not very well protected from North winds, but very helpful staff, and clean restrooms/showers. NIce stop after several days of being beaten up by the lake. On-site restaurant is the best I've expereinced on the lake.

A bit nervewracking to get into the first time, 2011-09-07
Captain: , Bainbridge Island, WA (343)

The restaurant was still excellent as of 2011. There's not a lot of maneuvering space inside the breakwater, so it helps to have a clear idea of where you're headed once inside. When I stayed here in 2010, late in the season, the owner gave me general instructions on where to put my boat. I headed in and found the slip where I thought I was supposed to go with a line from an adjoining boat blocking it. The owner, who had said he would be there, wasn't. I got things sorted out eventually, & had a great stay.

Very friendly and worth a stop, 2011-03-01
Captain: , Stony Point, NY (852)

Definitely not fancy, but we enjoyed the marina personel and the location. The restaurant on the grounds was excellent (2008). We also enjoyed walking around town and all the old homes. Beautiful quiet spot to sit and admire the Vermont Mountains. Don't confuse it with the northern marina in the same breakwater. (They do have a fuel dock) Very different management style.
