Reviews for East Wall
Not $20 any more , 2017-06-23
Captain: , Wanakena, NY (759)

This wall is north of lock 8 setting you up for a quick exit to Lake Ontario. It is now ran by the Best Western Hotel and not by the town. It is no longer $20 but $1 a foot in which you pay at the front desk of the Best Western Hotel. There are no amenities, such as electric, water, trash disposal. For $5 more you get access to there gym, pool, sauna, whirlpool and shower. For another $5 you can get the buffet breakfast in the AM. The wall is concrete and offers cleats and bollards for tying up. In speaking to other cruisers they thought it was to rough for docking. During our one night stay we did not find this true. Just north of the wall is a floating dock in front of Alex's Restaurant. The fee is $2 a foot with electric, water & wifi. They are both under the same ownership.

Dock is behind Best Western and Quality Inn. Floating dock was secure and quiet. Numerous restaurants, banks, nearby, but no services.

A Reasonable Place to Stage for Crossing the Lake, 2016-06-08

To take advantage of a great weather window to cross the lake, we choose the $20 downside of the lock rather than the free spot above. Good value for us since the reduced lock hours would have made for a late start. Were very comfortable at the floating dock. Saw no characters on shore that made us uncomfortable. The musical entertainment on the outdoor dining area at Alex's was outstanding and stopped about 9:30pm.

Stayed here night of 9-19-15. $20.00 charge, no water, no power. Alex on bay was good restaurant. Water depth is over 10". Good place to tie if waiting to enter canal.

Stayed on the east wall several times. Concrete wall is a bit high. Health club in hotel will let you use facilities for $5. Couple decent bar restaraunts withing walking distance. Now the bad. On our most recent trip we were awakened at 2:30am to a "thump" on the boat. Found 2 drunknen teenagers on the transom trying to untie the dinghy. On a previous trip a cell phone was stolen from a friends boat at night. Always tie lines back to boat, have heard of kids untieing dock lines at night

Quiet and convenient to restaurants and some stores. The $20 charge seems a bit strange, given that so many of the other towns along the canals offer free walls for overnight stays. We wanted to leave early to cross Lake Ontario and couldn't wait for the lock to open, or we probably would have opted for the wall between locks 7 and 8 and saved ourselves the $20. The east wall has significantly less current than the west wall.

This is a pretty good spot, 2014-02-19

On the concrete wall, pick you space carefully. Some spots are a bit rough. It's a big step up to the top. Once there, you will be on a nice walking path with access to the town where everything except groceries is available.

Get what you pay for..., 2012-12-17
Captain: , Port Credit, Ontario (251)

The concrete wall will require a big jump up (and down) to get on land (at least 3 foot climb). Nice walking area along the canal for dogs, and a short walk to restaurants and shopping. Check ahead in case a summer festival in ongoing, or you may get stuck here. Not bad when nothing else available. No facilities unless you sneek in the hotel. $20 on honour system with frequent checks by police for security.
