Reviews for East Tawas State Dock

One of our favorite places to tie up. Unfortunately, the dredge was quite noisy last week. Hopefully that will be over soon and they will get started on new docks.

There is no wifi available, contrary to the MI Harbor guide publication. There is a service called NorthNet with good signal strength. For a fee it can be activated by phone if you need wifi.

Staff are excellent and helpful. Distances to the shore and bathrooms require that you have a bicycle or leave yourself lots of time to get to shore, its a long way.

If every dock, marina and staff were as in as good a shape as this one, as knowledgeable, helpful & friendly ... we would need to come up with a different rating system, maybe going to 100 and this one would be in the upper 10% quartile!

An interesting holiday town with large trailer park adjacent to the dock and beach.
Friendly and helpful staff. Diesel was $4.20/ gallon on 7/18/13.
Floating and fixed docks.

Sheltered from wave action although in 35 knot winds the short fetch in the harbor produced waves.
Tourist shopping base but market food store with excellent local produce.
Would definitely stop there again. It was very busy in part due to weather but is a popular club cruise destination.

Update: 8/2015; was a little less impressed. It seems the regulars are less socially responsible than in the past. A number of different dock groups felt it was OK to set up chairs and BbQ on the walkway making access on and off the docks difficult and somewhat confrontational. One boat allowed their dog to walk unleashed and that in itself led to other issues. Will not be in such a hurry to return.

Pull in at the fuel dock for a slip assignment. Far walk to facilities - which are very nice. But no wifi at all. Walk to town and visit Klenow's market to reprovision - esp. Jerky

great town and nice marina, 2013-02-06

A Long walk form the docks to the showers and restrooms. The town is very nice. Spent four days here during a storm and we were glad the town had as much happening as it did. The docks can get some wind and when blowing right. Make sure youre tied correctly.

Dock employees great; garbage pickup at your boat every morning; clear water; nice beach; great town for shopping, eating; Klenow's market has ample supplies; Nieman's grocery ia a good walk or bike ride and is awesome; can't beat the bay for boating, jet skiing, kayaking, sand bar anchorage, beautiful sunsets...heavenly!

Okay facility with a nice beach for wading. In town so lots of restaurants close by. A community that was at its peak in the 50's and Michigan's economy has challenged it.

Very Nice facilities, 2007-01-26

We come over to East Tawas a few times a summer from Caseville. The water is very clean, you can jump off of your boat into the water. You can also see the hull of your boat, the outdrives, props, and anything else under the water line clearly.

There is a beautiful beach and playground for the children at the beginning of the dock (to the south of the pier). There is also a pavillion with picnic tables for cooking your meals. You can cook, and watch you children play at the same time.

The only negative is that everything is a long walk. The restrooms are quite a hike from the slips (so plan your business well!). There used to be an IGA just north of the Holiday Inn, but Walmart put them out of business. It is about a mile walk to walmart. There is a small grocery store about three blocks from the marina entrance (mostly a meat market with some grocery items).

All in all, our family really enjoys the times we go to East Tawas. You can come for the day, or the weekend. We will 'beach' the boat close to the Holiday Inn and get a cheeseburger at Bikini's on the Beach.
