Reviews for Eagle Cove Marina - Destroyed
Good but gone, 2011-05-05

Eagle Cove Marina is completely destroyed by the EF4 tornado that passed over Tuscaloosa, AL April 27, 2011. I have been there several days working with the marina management, boat owners, good neighbors and emergency officials trying to make some sense of what had happened. Of the 81 boats in the marina, and numerous others in dry storage, all, ALL, were damaged. Most were destroyed. The marina is a complete loss. For anyone who loves boats and boating, this is a sad site to see. The good news is that there were no lives lost in the marina, a miracle in itself when you see the pictures.

Pictures of the "before" marine can be seen at www.eaglecovemarina.com

All boaters are urged to stay away from the marina area due to dangers including sunken boats, pier wreckage, power lines, debree from destroyed houseboats and other objects.

If there is anything to take away from seeing the devistation of the storm, it is summarized in a quote I heard from someone yesterday: "you see the best of people, and you see the worst of people" I have been so very impressed with the neighborly acts of kindness of people helping other people. A local steel company yesterday sent out a crew of workers and two pieces of heavy equipment to help with the cleanup. Many other individuals have helped save boats from sinking or helped raise sunken boats for people they didn't know. The Corps of Engineers sent a crew and equipment to help free up access to the boat ramp. Search and rescue teams with dogs have walked the storm path looking for human victims. So many have lost their homes as well as their boats. Some have lost their business. Some lost their lives.

If you are travelling the Warrior River north of the Holt Lock and Dam, the Hidden Harbor Marina has fuel and supplies, but they do not have transient space due to taking in surviving boats from Eagle Cove. Any boater should be on lookout for dangerous debree in the waterways.

Nicest transient marina ( and only one ) from Demopolis ( Tenn Tom mile 216) past Tuscaloosa. Gas and diesel available with notice, call marina, ask for Quinn.
Great location to cruise down to U of Alabama football games.
