Enter Duncan Bay from the Cheboygan ship channel. From the R2 take a magnetic heading of approximately 125. Note the shallows along the south shore and off the north point. The entrance channel is buoyed. Entry is well marked with buoys, markers, flashing red and green at night, and white markers near hazards.

It was reported August 2013, that there is a submerged boat near the entry to the marina which has a very bright night illuminated green buoy which may confuse you thinking it's related to the entry to the DB Boat Club.

Reviews for Duncan Bay Boat Club
Nice . . . But, 2016-08-17
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4015)

This place made us long for the Killarney Mountain Lodge docks where enthusiastic staff cleans every power pedestal every day. To access the electrical recepticals in our pedestal at Duncan, a hand full of spider webs had to be removed. Once plugged in, we killed 14 spiders, just on the pedistal - only to learn later that those were just the ones that did not know how to hide. There was a nail sticking out on the side of the dock where the fenders lay. A number of nail heads stood proud on the dock decking, ready to cut a bare foot or trip a shoed walker.

Before washing the boat, we had to hammer the nails, knock down spider webs, kill spiders, and clean the very dirty dock.

When we went to the second story office, like an airport tower giving good views of the bay approach, 3 staff members were busy on their phones and other activities, none looking at the surroundings. Which explains why they were not in the marina basin to guide us to the dock, even though they were called on VHF when we were in the bay, in sight of the office.

One aspect on which marinas are rated is the avilable of services in nearby areas. Restaurants and retailers are a distance away from Duncan, and frustratingly, the staff has no information, maps, handouts, decent explanations of what and where services are.

There is no recycling, even though a sign on the trash dumpster fence states that recycling is offered.

Yes, the showers are probably the nicest in all of the USA. But, they were over a 1/4 mile away from our slip, and we have shower facilities on the boat - so they were no benefit to us. The pumpout driven right to your slip was a great benefit. And, the picnic areas are beautiful.

There are plans for new docks. But, that is no excuse for allowing the docks to become filthy and dangerous for paying customers. Rating this marina only on the docks would be one star.

Excellent Short or Long Term Stop, 2015-09-08
Captain: , Fort Monroe, VA (732)

We looked for a marina to leave our boat for an extended period and Duncan Bay Boat Club more than fit the need. Although this is a private club and not a commercial marina, they arranged for a long term slip at a great rate ($1 per foot with 50 amp power). Alan and his staff went out of their way to help us secure a rental car and watch after our boat. The amenities of Duncan Bay are superb. Well maintained club house with excellent showers. Swimming pool large enough for lap swimming. Bar-b-cue grills at the end of each dock. Four washers and dryers ($2.50 per load) eased catching up on laundry. Pumpout at your slip for $5. WIFI was good on the dock and signal from TMobile was good. Top off fuel tanks at Cheboygan County dock for reasonably priced fuel before heading down the channel to Duncan Bay. If you need to get supplies, Alan will find a way to get you to the Walmart about three miles away. We will stop here again.

Michigan's Best Marina, 2015-09-03
Captain: , Duncan Bay, MI (10)

Duncan Bay Boat Club is a hidden gem of a marina. Transient slips are priced right and the facilities are the best we have experienced on the Michigan peninsula. There is a pool, suite bath/showers, at the dock pump out. The people are friendly and helpful.

About as good as it gets, 2014-09-13
Captain: , Sandusky Oh (615)

This club would be a top facility wherever it was.
A little remote if it is a city full of restaurants and night life maybe, but the facility and staff are really top notch.
Hey how many marinas have a working wood burning fire place in the lounge, with wood ready to fire up.
Books to read, puzzles to puzzle and a great view of the lake.

Best of all marinas!, 2013-07-26
Captain: , Cheboygan (426)

The area is beautiful, the clubhouse is very nice, comfortable and well maintained. There is a pool, several picnic areas with gas grills, pet areas, friendly staff, bikes available. Lots of sailing dogs without any problems. Many large dock carts to move things back and forth to the boat/vehichle.

Wonderful marina, 2012-03-01
Captain: , Olcott, NY (2536)

In 40+ years of voyaging Duncan bay has the best showers of them all.
Staff is awesome. Place is very clean and well run. Pumpout comes to the boat. They go out of their way to help you.

Hidden Treasure in Straits of Mackinac Area, 2010-07-11
Captain: , Cheboygan, MI (80)

This is a must stop if you are anywhere in the Straits of Mackinac area.

The marina is sheltered, clean, and quiet. There are 40 and 60 foot slips on floating docks. There is a heated swimming pool and they even provide cloth bath mats in the private showers rooms. In the many picnic areas propane gas grills are available. Dock-side pump-out is also available for only $5.00.

The staff is friendly and competent.

Many of the restaurants in the area provide pick-up and drop-off and Glen%u2019s Supper Market delivers.

Rates are very competitive

Very nice club, 2009-06-26
Captain: , Port Ontario, Lake Ontario (410)

Nice marina, well protected from waves but does catch the North wind. Very nice clubhouse.
It is a long trip to town and further to a grocery store. You would need to be a proficient bicycler or rent a car for that.

Boat Club, 2007-11-24
Captain: , Cheboygan, MI (239)

An excellent marina, totally protected, with excellent facilities. For transients, the shortcoming is that a car or taxi (or bicycle or loong walk) is needed for groceries, restaurants, and other services in Cheboygan.
