Urbanna, Va. - Two people died and 21 boats were destroyed by a massive fire that broke out at the Dozier Yachting Center in Urbanna early Monday.

Virginia State Police say they are investigating the fire as an arson.

Neat Town to Visit, 2015-08-15
Captain: , Corpus Christi, TX (702)

Quaint town with friendly locals on the dock and intesting shops and food Thursday--Sunday; essentially closed down other days. WiFi signal strong, but evidently little bandwidth as often would not reach internet. Staff friendly, but often not on site. Price was $1.65/ft...no discounts off that. Docks & Power good.

Great Docks/Poor Internet, 2015-07-27
Captain: , Hampton, VA (29)

We love the floating docks close to town. Great lunch & ice cream at Something Different. Cross Street Cafe serves breakfast all day. Strong WiFi signal at docks but stays disconnected from Internet most of day & night. Dockmaster office not manned full time. Nice showers and lounge overlooking harbor.

Nice marina, great setting, 2015-07-18
Captain: , Arizona (216)

This marina is a nice, quiet, friendly marina. Josh was a great help to us. There is a lounge with tv and internet. Several boat owners got together for a happy hour on the dock. There is a trolley at the top of the driveway that will take you on a half-hour tour around town for only 50 cents. Something Special restaurant has great barbeque!

It's quiet and close to town, 2014-07-15
Captain: , Patuxent River, MD (387)

No food onsite. One shower in the clubhouse did not have hot water. Transient slips are nice new floating docks, and the marina is well protected. Good places to eat in town, and a decent grocery store all within easy walking distance.

Very nice floaters, 2014-06-22
Captain: , Beaufort NC (99)

New floaters (as of 6/20/2014) for easy along side docking. The only problem is the shore power is 60amp - you'll need a splitter to get down to30amp.

There is WiFi, 2014-06-20
Captain: , Midlothian, VA (10)

There is WiFi. New contact person is Josh Clark.

What is the previous Post talking about?, 2014-06-15
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

Yes, the town is very small, but why would someone come here if they expect big city life. The charm is just fasinating. We got invited to the local fire dept musical, town farmers market, took trolley to the resort/ice crean place, ate at two fantastic places, marina is first class, including staff......What a great placde to hole uo for a few days if you just want to hang for awhile. Good bike place too. Town is not dying.

Overhyped town and a marina living on it's name., 2014-06-12
Captain: , Houston, Texas (970)

The town of Urbana:
Would not go back. The town is dying. You can walk to see everything in two hours. Overhyped in publications. Nice IGA for reprovisioning.
The marina:
Nothing special. No wifi at the docks. Heads and showers nice and clean. New floating docks only have 50 amp outlets and the marina has only 1 working adapter for 30 amp.
We were the only transient and only the second transient of the year.

A Great Marina in Urbanna, 2013-09-02
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (310)

This was my first visit to Urbanna. The marina has new floating dock which are great. All have just 50 amp service. The marina will provide 30 amp adapters. The showers are clean and the party room is very nice. There are no laundry facilities. The staff is just the best! Be sure to meet Wendy and Nelson. They could not be more accommodating. There is a grocery store just a short walk away. The town is really quaint. Urbanna is must stop if you are in the area.

Nice marina, outstanding restaurant!, 2013-08-20
Captain: , Gulfport, MS (321)

Took a slip at this marina on 13 Aug 13 to have our back AC looked at and to do laundry. The approach from the Rhapannock was no problem - followed the previous posts about favoring the greens on the way in until past the jetty entrance. We had an alongside slip near the marina Travelift and the restaurant. With our 6' draft, we had planned to go in along the port side of their fairway and then turn the boat to starboard to lay along side the dock on our port side. Despite advertised 10' depths, we were aground before getting to the docks. After getting unstuck, we were told to stay to the starboard side for the deeper water, which it was. However, the next morning at low tide we measured the depth, and it is more like 8' at the dock rather than 10'; no big deal, just be aware.

Unfortutely, their AC guy had just retired and the laundry machines had been removed by the new owners (hopefully they will replace when the facility is finished being upgraded). As part of this upgrade, they have an outstanding clubhouse and new floating docks under construction. Once they get power to the docks, this would be my preference for an alongside slip (49' loa, 6' draft).

The really bright spot was the Dockside restaurant located at the marina. We had a 5 star meal (actually 2 - went back the following night because it was so good) at a 3 star price, plus excellent service. Highly recommend the Bayou Classic (crabcake over fried green tomatoes with the Chef's special magnolia sauce). We would definitely go back to Urbanna just to experience the meal. The marina would get a 3 star rating, while the restaurant gets a 5, resulting in my overall rating of 4.

almost ready, 2013-05-17
Captain: , Friday Harbor, WA (490)

Town is nice to see
New floating docks are NOT READY until the first of June

Will be a good stop if you want to see an older town

Hidden Gem, 2012-09-14
Captain: , PooleUK (933)

One of the most welcoming facilities I have yet encountered, we were secured alongside the slip holders lounge at the end of the dock, which was perfect for our needs. WIFI worked well with our Wave Wifi system, 100 Amp power was good and stable, depth was not a problem for us with a 7ft draft.
The town is rather like a time capsule, but well stocked and provisioned and a simple walk to anywhere you want to go.
In all this is one of the nicest locations we have encountered on our voyages.
I hope to return!

Great Town, 2012-06-20
Captain: , North Fort Myers, FL. (268)

Nice marina but I have to say I came for the restaurant at the foot of the pier [ great! ]. The marina is perfect for exploying the town which is full of neat shops and restaurants. If you haven't been to Urbanna you are missing one of the great towns on the bay.

Great Marina - Same folks who do the guides, 2011-11-26
Captain: , Portsmouth RI (275)

Great docks, Was met at the dock for help tying up. Great Lounge. We mentioned at checkin that we had just bought the 2011 ICW guide. They had just come out with the 2012 version and swapped it for free.

Doziers Port, 2011-09-10
Captain: , Charleston (241)

We docked at the face dock and was welcomed by Marie who tends to the office at Doziers. The town wonderfu and the folks who live there are very friendly. I would check-out the Town Marina - both are close to the town. The Saturday outdoor market is worth waiting for.

Not very fancy, 2010-10-01
Captain: , Stuart, Fl (285)

Just a old style marina with great access to town..Make sure to get crabs at Claytons right down the street.

Nice, classic marina!, 2009-10-07
Captain: , Maryland (105)

This is an old-school marina with massive covered slips, a nifty clubhouse overlooking Urbanna creek, and very boat-savvy ownership/clientele. We love the proximity to town, the on-site restaurant, and the overall quaint feel of the place. Everything about it is dated, which adds to the charm. We visit every fall for a few days.
