Reviews for Dowry Creek Marina
Attentive Staff & Nice Facility, 2016-10-24
Captain: , Arlington, VA (30)

Stayed one night. Staff very helpful tying up, fueling, and pumping out. Showers clean. Pool looked nice though we did not swim. Please note the marina is a 15 minute drive from Belhaven, but the marina does have a free loaner car. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the loaner car needs some mechanical work and TLC.

Nice Stopover, 2016-10-17
Captain: , Edgartown, MA (50)

Nice little spot. Overnighted here on our way down to Morehead City. The people who met us at the dock helped us tie up and were very friendly. Decent facilities with a clubhouse and pool. Easy ICW in and out. $1.40/ft.

fully operational as of 10/10/16. , 2016-10-17

One of my Favorites, 2016-10-17
Captain: , Colorado (411)

I've stayed at this marina several times, from an overnight to a month. It isn't a flashy place, but genuinely nice people. They have a BYOB/snacks happy hour just about daily around 5pm. Clubhouse with satellite TV and pool. Bath houses are decent and clean. The marina is pretty well protected. The docks are older and fixed, but with virtually no tide, it works fine. They are a bit out of town, but have a courtesy car so you can grab a bite to eat or reprovision. And did I mention the folks there are friendly and helpful?
Only negatives are that the water is well water and is a bit high in iron content and that the current owner is ready to retire and the marina is up for sale. Hope any new owners will keep the tradition going. Always enjoy stopping here.

Good for a quick stop, 2016-10-14
Captain: , Westport CT (170)

Stayed here for the first time on trip south...very nice people. Breeze made for tricky docking and docks are old school. Far from Belhaven but had no problem and was able to use courtesy car to go to dinner.

home style marina, 2016-08-14
Captain: , Lighthouse Point, FL (70)

wanting to feel welcome. pulling in here you are greeted by the friendliest people. they also know how to get you tied and powered up. everything you need for a great stay is available . The courtesy car makes up for the lack of restaurant. Happy hour at 5:30 all gather in captains lounge. Nick is in better health everything is more upbeat. A great stop

Convenient place, 2016-06-23
Captain: , Oriental, NC (110)

6-22-16 BJMcL Nice facilities overall but the docks are showing age. Odd angle for most slips, but the power is good. Didn't need water or fuel. The other facilities are good. Enjoyed the pool, club house, and clean restrooms. Very nice and helpful people.

Very Conveinent and Nice Folks, 2016-05-12
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

We stop here all the time and love the place and the people. The only reason not to give it five stars is that the finger piers are not the easist to use, but they are not bad either. Love the courtesy car and the clubhouse and the pool. Scenery is fantastic and good protection form wakes and winds

Very pleased here, but understand you are far from town, 2016-05-07
Captain: , Annapolis MD (170)

Really enjoyed our stay here, nice price for good and sheltered facilities, owner-operator lives on site, very nice people in the slips and working at the marina. We just stayed for one night so didn't need services, provisioning, etc., but keep in mind you are in a residential area away from town that offers great walking but no stores or services. Really beautiful creek and easy access to the ICW made this a winner in our book. Marina is for sale, hope someone equally as nice buys it and keep it open.

Super nice spot, 2016-04-27
Captain: , Strafford, NH (448)

We needed a quick stop for shopping and rest from being offshore 3 of 5 days. The courtesy car made it easy to get to town and free laundry to get the clothes done. Good place to make the next trip north through the Alligator River and Albemarle Sound. We draft 7 and had no problems.

Just a fuel stop for me, 2016-01-03
Captain: , Eastport, MD (140)

Popped in here under a lively 20 mph N wind to get diesel before continuing south. They answered the radio (+), accurately described to me where I would find the fuel dock and on which side I would tie off (+), and offered to meet me at the dock as I am singlehanding (+).

Staff was friendly as could be and the diesel was at the low-end of the prices I've encountered ($2.15 December 2015). The potable water came out of my filter clear but went in a tad off color.

They talked with me about my anchoring plans for the day, gave some good local knowledge to spots I had earmarked, and helped me off the fuel dock which would have been ugly without. I could not have been happier.

Super nice owner, 2015-12-06

Never Disappoints, 2015-11-07
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (602)

Dowry Creek Marina is still one of my favorites.
The good: Fuel, Power, Water, WIFI, Friendly, helpful people, sheltered from most wind directions, happy hour in the lounge, CLEAN showers and restrooms, pool. very little tide.
The bad: Away from town, shopping, restaurants, etc., fixed docks.
Final grade 5 stars from me.

Good amenties, but pricey for location, 2015-10-22
Captain: , Bay City, MI (609)

Great people and getting on the dock was a breeze. Bathrooms including showers are nice and well-maintained. We did not have time to use the courtesy car, as the marina is not within walking distance to any restaurants or grocery. Small finger docks, but they put us on the fuel dock, which was much more convenient.

We are at Oriental Marina tonight for about the same price and we are in the center of town with shops and restaurants. We thought $1.90 was pricey at Oriental, but they did not charge for electricity so we came out to about the same price as Dowry Creek with nothing around.

Easy access off ICW, 2015-10-10
Captain: , Hull, MA (700)

Marina has easy access off of the ICW. A good spot for a stopover for one night. The owners/operators are great! Very helpful! In addition to the slips they have a very good mooring field that is stump free

Easy Access to ICW, 2015-10-10
Captain: , Racine, WI (515)

Stopped here for the night and filled up with fuel. Easy asscess to the fuel dock and two guys there to help. Then moved to a dock and again both there to help with lines and connection of electricty. No water because of recent flooding. Good marking to get there from ICW.

Marina is for sale, 2015-10-09
Captain: , Patrick AFB Florida (1254)

We first stopped here in 2002 and stayed for several days during stormy weather. Have been back a number of times for fuel but no overnight as there are so many great anchorages in the area. Have always been greeted by a courteous, knowledgeable, and friendly staff. Fuel prices have been competitive.

Now the docks need some maintenance and TLC. Still helpful staff and cheapest diesel price we've seen in years (even a few cents less than the commercial barge in Gloucester Massachusetts.

Nice place to stay, 2015-08-10
Captain: , Mystic, CT (112)

We stayed here one night on our way to GA. Nice facility with friendly staff. Clean restrooms. Complimentary shuttle car for use into town (definately not within walking distance).

Would definately stay here again.

Great People, 2015-06-30

We stop at Dowry Creek Marina with six sailboats. Very friendly and helpful people. Great facilities.

Friendly and great food at Spoon River, 2015-06-19
Captain: , Ensign Harbor Marina (195)

We stayed here two nights to escape the heat in the pool and boater's lounge. Very friendly people with lots of available space for transients. Ate at Spoon River. It is among the best restaurants on the ICW, in our opinion. Great service. Great wine selection. Great food and excellent setting.

A great find, 2015-05-13
Captain: , New York (241)

Got lucky with this one on my trip north
Not fancy by any means but safe, protected slips. Friendly staff, fair fuel prices, loaner car and a terrific resturant nearby in Belhaven.
Stay here and have a great meal at Spoon River!

2015 4 May Stop, 2015-05-05
Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (590)

Stopped as usual. Boating is about meeting boaters, relaxing and being on the water. We can do it here. It is a community atmosphere with great facilities at a reasonable price. There is nothing they would not do for you. Every night is a happy hour were the locals gather and invite the boaters passing thru. This "we want you as boating neighbors" can't be beat and is not available at so many marinas. It is 5 stars to us.

interesting beautiful spot, isolated, 2015-04-29
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1663)

Loaner car available , tie along side dockage, small tide, amount of protection on dock from wind depends on wind speed and direction. Very helpful owner and staff, Mary was gone when we visited.Good fuel price. Outstanding walking and bike riding in adjacent community otherwise nothing around. Did not use loaner car, very peaceful spot. Depth 6+ ft.

A great go back to marina, 2015-02-20
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (745)

Very friendly and helpful. The owner/dockmaster tucked us around back which was a test of my docking skills. No problem. Quite helpful and well protected. At the happy hour we met several folks traveling south as we were.

Very nice Owner and Staff, 2015-01-15

Awesome place, 2014-11-26
Captain: , Portland, Maine (845)

Very nice and helpful folks here. We tied up at qthe fuel dock for the night. 5:30 happy hour in the clubhouse. It was fun the chat with Mary and Nick and some of the LAs. Docks are nice as is the entire facility. We used the courtesy car to run to the food lion. Clean showers and a nice laundry room.

Stayed here Nov 18/19, 2014-11-21
Captain: , Rock Hall (60)

Very friendly and helpful. Facilities were good.

Easy access off ICW, 2014-11-14
Captain: , Solomons Island Md (397)

Very nice facility. The staff was great and the price is right. It would be a nice spot to hang for a few days if the weather had been warmer.

One of the best marinas along the ICW, 2014-11-12
Captain: , Annapolis (2677)

Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice clean facilities. Loaner vehicle to go to town. Food Lion and Auto Parts store are about 10 minutes. Mary and Nick go the extra mile to help you in any way possible.

Messed up reservation, bad internet, poor customer service, 2014-11-07
Captain: , Wickford, RI (937)

This is an update to a previous review. I had sent a thoughtful letter to Mary detailing our poor experience, and she did not even have the courtesy to reply or acknowledge my letter. This marina clearly does not care about customers.
Original review: We made a reservation and asked Nick for a face dock. When we arrived, Nick didn't remember we had called twice to confirm a face dock and although there WAS room on the face dock, he was saving it for boats "with reservations" (those boats later confirmed to me that they did not request a face dock). When I told dockhands that I was not happy where they put us because I could not get off our boat, their reply was, "You can leave and go somewhere else."!!! Their "slips" have very narrow, short docks on one side. I would have been much happier at anchor had I known that they don't keep track of reservations. And there is no cell service here and their internet doesn't work. Horrible experience. We will NOT be back!! You are much better off going to River Dunes which is very nice, and they have always honored our reservations and our requests.

They So Get It, 2014-11-02
Captain: , Castine, Maine (2964)

Still one of our favorite stops. Love getting to meet the other boaters at the lounge every evening. The courtesy car lets us top off the galley pantry. Warm, welcoming, and always fun.

April 2013:
We were fortunate to be able to stop into Dowry Creek Marina again as we move north. It is still one of our favorite stops!!! If only every marina knew how to give this kind of customer service!

Previous Review:

They don't have concrete Bellingham docks. There's not a spa where you can have a massage and facial. There's not even a restaurant, let alone a five star one. So why does Dowry Creek Marina consistently receive the highest ratings?

Well now we know. Mary and her crew totally and completely understand boaters, what they need and what they want. It begins the moment you hail them on the radio. All of Mary's dockhands are seasoned boaters who instill confidence even if you're arriving in adverse conditions. They offer good advice and direction and know how to handle your lines making the whole docking experience a positive one. One blustery afternoon we listened to the radio as they talked in boaters escaping the weather. It was an auditory ballet with everyone arriving safely with no drama.

The docks are wooden, fixed in good repair, power works exactly as it should, and the water pressure is great. The grounds are wild and lovely. There's a pool and boaters lounge and clean heads and showers. Don't expect a late night at the disco but there is a courtesy car you can sign up for to go to the grocery, a restaurant, or other places in Belhaven. It has just what a transient boater needs for a great stay.

But the real charm is when you meet Mary, attend the happy hour or boater's potluck in the evening, and get to know the terrific people that are drawn to Dowry Creek Marina. We have never been anywhere that had a better sense of community or where we felt more welcome.

If you have never been to Dowry Creek it should be on your must go list, you will be back again and again. If you have been, well, then you know what I'm talking about.

Pump out is fixed. Friendly and professional service.

Holding tank Pump-out is broken, 2014-10-27
Captain: , Groton, CT (91)

Bought fuel and got water, docks great, docking help great, but pump-out was broken. We left with full holding tanks. We went into Bellhaven, where the marina we contacted, directed us to the Town of Bellhaven pump-out.

Couldn't Be Nicer, 2014-10-22
Captain: , Auburn, Maine (396)

Stayed on way North on 5-14-14. As usual, great availability of help docking, very friendly folk, and always a good time talking to owner and fellow boaters at happy hour. A stop the crew looks forward to. And Mary, as noted, is just a great person to know.
10-20-14 Another great visit to the friendliest place on the ICW. Nick as helpful as ever, remembered us, and our slight mishap of two years ago, and cocktail hour well-attended and interesting. Added treat, Jeff and Karen Siegel were there, and very interesting to talk to. Had 7-8 feet at North end of dock, inside, so no depth problems. Wi-fi a little spotty on outer section of dock, but decent Verizon signal. Just a very welcoming place.

Easy stop, Mary & staff very cordial, 2014-10-04
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1866)

Stayed night of 10-1-14, easy in & out 12-13 feet of water at dock and on approach, price was fair (1.58 foot including electric) loaner car to restaurant & grocery store. Spponers Creek Restaurant in downtown Bellhaven was good and owner Thersa certainly wants the customer to be happy. Good wine selection.

Charming Marina, 2014-09-19
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (280)

We were traveling the ICW and stayed an extra few days because of weather. This is a small marina in a well protected creek which is convenient to the ICW. The marina is located in a very quiet rural setting with great views. The folks managing the marina and local liveaboards are some of the nicest people you could hope to meet. the marina has a nice club house, pool, and tennis courts. A courtesy car is provided for the 10 minute drive to Belhaven.

Captain: , Hampton, VA (291)

Stayed here while doing a delivery last spring on the recommendation of a friend. Glad he did! Not a fancy place at all, but the place is well maintained if a bit dated. Extremely helpful staff, easy in/out, decent fuel prices and strategic location mid way between Coinjock and Beaufort make this an ideal overnight stop. Only reason it gets 4 vs 5 stars is that the showers were a bit "stuffy" with no/poor a/c. Know I'll be back on my next delivery!

Things that make you smile, 2014-09-16
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (185)

Nice docks, great people. Nice shore side facilities. Loaner car if you need to get into town. Has a BYOB happy hour in the captain's lounge every afternoon. There are several liveaboards in the marina who are the "core welcomers" and make the transients feel like part of the marina. Great place; worthy of a longer stay

Captain: , Cuba Landing Marina, Waverly, TN, Nashville, TN (184)

Met all expectations except the heads/showers had no air conditioning. Enjoyed the daily 5:30 get together in the boater's lounge.

Very friendly place, 2014-09-01
Captain: , Oriental,NC (327)

Staff and people here are extremely friendly. Stayed for a night but was invited to a marina potluck dinner. Amenities are very nice as well.

Really Great Marina, 2014-08-27
Captain: , Sanford, Fl. (887)

We have been here several times and each time is a treat! Nothing like cooling off in the pool on the hot days. 5:30 pm Happy hour is a real treat. The loaner car to go shopping or out for dinner is a really great benefit. You won't find nicer people than Mary and Nick any where on the the water way. Stop in and enjoy!!

If you want to find out about Southern Hospitality stop here! Nice facility, nice people and reasonably priced. If you want a really great place for food, take the loaner car to town and go the Spoon River. Great food and decor also very reasonably priced. Stayed 2 nights and will be back again!

stay here, there is no better place around, 2014-08-16
Captain: , Cape Coral (221)

We had a beautiful stop here. Very nice peopel with a lot of service. Tennis Court, pool, courtesy car, great happy hour with all boaters in the club house - they have all.

A lovely place, great people, 2014-08-10
Captain: , Hartfield, VA (140)

Mary always makes us feel welcome. We often stay an extra day because it is such a clean, laid-back place. And loaner car is available for grocery trips into Belhaven.

A nice find!, 2014-07-27
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (70)

Very friendly and reasonable. And the happy hour is a nice touch to get to know the other folks visiting. Will visit agai soon!

Love this Marina !!, 2014-07-14
Captain: , Bethlehem, PA (696)

Easy on and off fuel and pump out dock. Very helpful staff. Happy Hour every day! Air-conditioned cruisers lounge. Air-conditioned, clean and big bath/shower facilities. Nice pool too. Emailed Mary and she promptly replied to my questions. Courtesy car to go grocery shopping.

3 Day respit from "the waterways", 2014-06-04
Captain: , Boston, Ma (60)

Once again, Capt Annie & I enjoyed visiting Dowry Creek Marina for 3 days. Mary & Nick made us feel like we were long lost relatives that they wanted to see. The pool was exceptionally clear along with the clean rest rooms and grounds.
I told Nick that the next time we visit will be in our Airstream trailer.
A must stop when transitting the Pungo Creek river canal heading north or south on the ICW. Loaner car is a big enticement also!

Enjoyed Happy Hour, 2014-05-31
Captain: , Stuart, FL (16)

Stopped for the first time at this marina and was very happy we did. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. The marina has a happy hour at 5:30 that everyone is invited to (a BYOB). It was great to talk with the other boaters and share our experiences. Would definitely recommend.

Great Place, 2014-05-21
Captain: , Englewood, FL (905)

We've been traveling for 7 months now & so far, this is my favorite marina. It's in a quiet creek away from current & tide, has helpful, friendly people & great amenities. The setting is beautiful - surrounded by woods & marsh. There's a swimming pool, a large captain's lounge, rocking chairs on the second level with great views, and they lend you a car for errands in Belhaven.

Clean and friendly, 2014-05-16
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (10)

Stopped here during a heavy blow from the south, we anchor out most of the time. We called from a few miles away just before 5:00 PM and were assured someone would be there to help us in. We were warmly greeted and had all the help we needed docking. Mary, the owner, lives on the grounds above the office. The showers were clean, roomy and well taken care of. The pool looked inviting but we didn't go in. It's am upbeat marina with plenty of friendly people. We were made to feel welcome from the start. We will definately be stopping here again.

Dowry Creeks Rocks!!!, 2014-05-05
Captain: , Cape Coral, Fl (838)

A great marina, wonderful facilities, and an on-site owner who cares. We were there for several days during a blow and everyone could not be more friendly. We used the loaner car to provision, enjoyed happy hour and potlucks. The docks were a little short but ok for us and larger boats. I would definitely recommend a visit to Mary, the owner and crew at Dowry Creek Marina.

Very friendly, 2014-05-04
Captain: , Herrington Harbour, MD (680)

Went here as Belhaven marine's were all full. Very nice people,
lots of help. Thec we were put at had extra poles off the wooden fixed dock that made it almost impossilbe to get off and on. Very exposed to South wind. Nice pool and club house. Will stop again.

Beautiful spot on the ICW, 2014-05-02
Captain: , Pensacola, Fl (70)

This is one of the nicest marinas we have found. Mary, the owner, was so welcoming and there was a family atmosphere with frequent social gatherings including a potluck dinner. The facilties were very clean and staff was professional The courtesy car was very convenient as the marina is located 7 miles from town of Belhaven but the gorgeous location of the marina was worth the short trip to town.

Great place to stay a couple of days.., 2014-05-02
Captain: , Little River, SC (476)

Frendly, helpful staff and owner. All of the folks here are a welcoming group of folks you want to be around. The marina is extra clean and neat, great happy hours in the clubhouse. Cudos to Nick and Dan for getting us tied up in a 38mph wind.

Don't miss Dowry Creek Marina!

Chose to anchor out in the creek., 2014-04-22
Captain: , Phoenix (580)

This place is not worth the money. Really short, flimsy, old, yucky docks. The docks are only about 12' long. Way too short for a 40' boat. We chose to anchor in Upper Dowry Creek. Anchor caught on the first tug.

Very nice spot just off the ICW, 2014-04-12
Captain: , Houston, TX (523)

All the previous reviews are correct; nothing I can add here about the help and the welcome. We took the courtesy car into Belhaven and found a lovely restaurant - Spoon River Antiques and Cafe - that is a destination in it's own right. What a great find in this small town. We'll be back.

A special place, 2014-03-31
Captain: , Oxford, MD (610)

all the other comments that have been made are true. Lovely, peaceful location, help getting into the dock in a blow, clean restrooms, poool, boaters lounge and friendly staff. I would add that this is more a family than a marina. We came in rain and a blow and other boaters participated in securing our boat, fending us off the dock while we deployed larger (loaned) fenders. We intended to stay the night and stayed two. We were invited to join a going away pot luck dinner and are glad we did. Everyone made us feel as though we were members of the family. People are not just friendly but also interesting. Mary and Nick could not be more helpful and kind. Great experienc. Hardly noticed the weather was ugly.

Excellent stop along the ICW, 2014-02-26
Captain: , Edmonton (279)

Very nice facilities, easy approach, friendly and helpful staff. Bit distant from town, but there's a courtesy car. Too cold to check out the pool, but there was a very nice lounge.

Had not stayed here for a few years. Staff very good at helping with docking. Docks are a bit short but adequate. Loaner car for going to town if needed. Laundry on site. Just "good people" run this marina and very helpful. Little current going in marina or at docks.

We will be returning, 2014-01-02
Captain: , Warwick RI (40)

We stopped here late in the summer and enjoyed Mary and her crew's hospitality so much we stayed for an extended term. I'm very shocked to read the 2 previous reviews as everyone there were great to be around and there is no current whatsoever there. We have a large MY with significant sail area so on occassion a SE wind can be uncomfortable.

As others have said, the happy hour and frequent pot lucks are a delight: good food (usually) and good company (always). We will be returning next summer for an extnded stay.

Captain: , Wiscasset, Maine (280)

We'd heard lovely things about this marina and we're very disappointed with our experience. Maybe everyone was having a bad day, but the two people there to help us back into our slip were giving conflicting instructions to my wife who was at the helm. We finally insisted on tying alongside the dock rather than having to back into strong opposing current, at dusk into a slip that required an extreme starboard approach with our boat which has a right hand prop. One of the dock hands continued to make fun of our lack of skill in this maneuver well until we managed to escape into the office to register. We wonder if this is normal for this marina, and if so, why would anyone risk staying there? Mary was warm with her welcome. We wonder if she's aware of how her guests are being welcomed to her marina?

Stuck in the mud, 2013-11-15
Captain: , Hayes va (163)

The people are friendly but the dock master doesn't know his depths. We told him we were 5' draft and we were put at the fuel dock and then pulled forward. In the morning we found we were stuck in the mud. After 30 minutes of work and tricks with a spring line we worked ourselves free. You should be able to trust the dock masters knowledge.

Very positive attitude towards transient boaters, 2013-11-07
Captain: , algoma, WI (140)

What a pleasure to return to this facility after 10 years and find that the attitude towards transient boaters had not changed. Helpful and courteous staff; courtesy car; gathering room. A very pleasant stay once again

Just perfect!, 2013-11-03
Captain: , Charleston, SC (40)

Clean, comfortable, and friendly. No current, amazingly clean, great showers, and huge lounge. We would definitely stay here again!

Another Great Visit, 2013-10-29
Captain: , Branford, CT (900)

Easy in / out. Great staff. Happy hour at 5:30 in the club house. Bring a munchie to share and meet your fellow cruisers.

best marina so far, 2013-10-28
Captain: , Marathon, FL (120)

When I had read the reviews, I thought no marina could be that nice. I was so wrong. All marinas should be like this... The diagonal dockage was much easier, I had not even heard of diagonal dockage. The club house was warm and friendly. At 5:30 they gathered for refreshments while the Redskins battled the Broncos on cable. The showers had bath mats. It was more like staying overnight at a favorite relatives house. We will be back in the Spring...

Good stopping place, 2013-10-24
Captain: , New Hamburg, NY (140)

Very nice place, spotless facilties, good docks, friendly people. The price is right. There was some confusion regarding slip assignment, even thouogh we had a reservation with the boats dimensions. Changed slip assignment when they realized we were a motor yacht, even though that info was given when they took the reservation. We were told it was going to be a port tie up and when approaching reallized that it was a starboard tie up.

Everything we needed., 2013-10-06
Captain: , Houston, Texas (970)

We needed showers, wifi, pumpout, and gas. The place is immaculate, Mary and Cliff we so helpful with docking. The price is right for such a nice place. Happy hour was great.

Dowry Creek Marina, 2013-07-29
Captain: , Oriental, NC (220)

Knowledgeable folks helped us moor when a string wind was blowing us away from the dock; it was done well. The marina is nor large, but has good facilities, eg a pool, clean showers, etc. The approach is well marked with good enough water depth to proceed with comfort. The only possible negative is that it is an isolated location, accessibel to nothing without a car.

An easy choice for a slow boat, 2013-07-22
Captain: , Jupiter, FL (1236)

Nice folks working here. Quiet. Clean. All good.
Easy approach.
Location is good for a stop between Morehead City and Alligator River Marina or CoinJock.
WiFi is good with a powered antenna. Didn't try without.
AT&T service is non-existant
Verizon is good.

Swimming Pool, 2013-06-30
Captain: , Beaufort, S.C. (570)

This marina has a nice swimming pool and clubhouse for gatherings. The slips are narrow with short finger piers. We stayed on the face dock where due to strong wind the water was shallow leaving us less than a foot under our boat (we draw 4 feet). There is a long grassy road with little traffic for easy dog walking.

Good stopping point, 2013-06-25
Captain: , Southport, NC (706)

Stopped in after a week long anchoring session. Pulled in bow first to fuel dock. Strong ESE winds made white caps that came right into the marina. Boats were rocking all eveing (no protection). Waves were banging our swim platform most of the night. Just dont bow in first at the fuel dock over night. Bathrooms clean. Laundry room clean. Family run, so they are involved with operations.

Just like home, 2013-06-21
Captain: , Perry, Kansas (317)

great stopping point. Great pool/laundry/restrooms, and boaters lounge. Mary (Owner) is very gracious and hospitable. water depth on the inside gets skinny but is doable. All live-aboards we met here were very wonderful.

Great Stop, 2013-06-19
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach (251)

The staff was helpful and friendly as well as the other transients. Nice lounge and pool: the restroom facilities are clean. Easy access to fuel dock. The fixed docks are beginning to show some age. Cross winds can be challenging when docking.

Great Marina!, 2013-05-30
Captain: , Merry Point, VA (26)

Agree with everything "Uncle Dom" said below, but wanted to add a caution about water depths for the inside transient docks. Was there on 2013-05-16 and briefly saw 5 feet of water depth on the inside fairway approaching slip 39.

Dowry Creek Marina, 2013-05-23
Captain: , Southport NC (71)

Nice Marina, Fuel, Pool, Clean Restrooms and great people and help on the dock.

Clean and friendly!, 2013-05-23
Captain: , Lewes, DE (165)

Docking can be a bit daunting depending on the wind but there is help at the ready. That being said, the marina, staff and owner are awesome. Clean rest rooms are our biggest peeve and there was no problem here. Wish these bathrooms were the standard minimum to which all others were made! The laundry room wasn't perfect but it did allow us to wash and dry our clothes with only one round of quarters each. You need to get your quarters from Mary who is the owner, change dispencer and so very hospitable. There was a beautiful pool that we, unfortunately, were not able to take advantage of due to time constraints. The lounge, next to the pool, was very comfortable and well equipt for relaxing. TV, card tables, stocked mini fridge, eating tables, and couches makes this a spot to spend time with friends both old and new. A perfect place to finish a bottle to leave on the tree. Stop'll get it.

EXPOSED..., 2013-05-07
Captain: , Friday Harbor, WA (490)

In all the reviews not one word about the exposed to SW winds! We have white caps rolling in pushing us around

Yes the help is gret and happy hour, but this is isolated!

Still wonderful, 2013-05-06
Captain: , Hartfield (281)

We haven't been here in a long time, since we've been out of the country. The marina is as well run now as then and the warmth just as genuine. Mary enjoys her guests and having her guests enjoy themselves.

Great Stop, 2013-05-04
Captain: , St. Clair, Michigan (456)

Stayed here for two nights, 5/1 and 5/2/13. Fixed docks in decent condition and no real tides in this area. Mary and her people are very freindly and go out of their way to make your stay pleasant.
Showers and restrooms are well kept and in very good condition. Really like the club house. It had pretty much everything you could want including a good size book library. We had cocktails with the other boaters both nights (BYOB). Excellent way to get to know some of the other boaters who you might otherwise only hear on the radio. Courtesy car is available for getting into Belhave for groceries or whatever.

I would not hesitate to stop here again.

More Bugs, 2013-05-01
Captain: , Port Royal, SC (231)

Stayed for one night and found the folks to be very friendly and accomodating as well as discounted dockage. Happy hour (BYOB) at 5:30 in the boaters lounge and a nice facility overall. Fixed docks, but little tidal influence That said, last night the bugs came and I have to say I have never seen it so bad.

A Must Stop!, 2013-05-01
Captain: , Topsail Beach, NC (480)

We've stayed at Dowry Creek on every trip up and down for many years. The people are fantastic. The docks are so-so. The facilities (showers, club house, pool) are first class. They have docktails nearly every night, certainly in season. Full club house with kitchen, TV, nice lounge chairs....very comfortable, open 24 hours. Courtesy car to get to the grocery or restaurants in Belhaven.

I give them 4 stars only because the docks aren't floating and they do not offer recycling. All else is wonderful.

Called Dowry Creek at the last minuteof business hours. Mary and crew stayed late and waited for us to come in. How awesome is that. You just can't get that everywhere !!! Would recommend to everyone.

Back Again !, 2013-04-18
Captain: , Collingwood (20)

This is the second visit for The Puddle Duck (Ranger Tug 29 ),this time on our way North from Stuart Florida to Toronto Ontario . As on our first visit Mary and her crew were just great right from their outer buoy to the dock .Facilities clean and comfortable showers clean and water hot .There is a new Restaurent in Belvhaven called Spoon River Antiques and Market - from farm to table (252 945 3899) Use the Marinas courtesy car to drive into town .The food is great and the owners really make you feel at home .
This is yet another reason for a return visit to Dowery Creek.

Peaceful and charming, 2013-03-13
Captain: , St. Thomas, USVI (624)

We visited on our way down south on 1/1/13. This was a great overnight stop where we would definitely like to return to. The staff were very accommodating and the area felt remote and peaceful but still near town. We%u2019ll be back.

Extremely accommdating, 2012-12-21
Captain: , Ithaca, NY (70)

I stayed here during Sandy. Mary and Nick are extremely accommodating and welcoming. The courtesy car makes resupply easy. Potlucks, happy hours, yoga! I won't pass by without staying here again. Warning to Mary and Nick: I'll be coming again...

Pretty, excellent facilities, but variable hospitality for anchored cruisers, 2012-12-20
Captain: , Brooklin, ME (1081)

We came here for diesel and to anchor in the creek for the night. We were received by two helping hands at the dock and greeted nicely. Upon going to pay for the diesel, I inquired about the possibility of purchasing shower access from the marina. I was informed that there was no standard policy and that he would have to call Mary down to decide on the matter. As we waited for her, we were given a lecture on their view of marina economics that made it clear they felt put upon by our request. Mary came down and expressed the same sentiment and begrudgingly offered us showers for $5 a pop. We took the offer, but felt very unwelcome. Personally, I don't care whether a marina decides to offer a la carte services to anchored cruisers, but I don't think its good hospitality to make customers feel they are imposing upon you by asking. A clear and consistent policy wouldn't hurt either. In the end, we spent $124 but felt unwelcome, so we probably won't return. The facilities looked excellent and the location is quite pretty, though.

Wonderful Place, 2012-12-19
Captain: , Freeport (37)

Facilities are neat and clean, the staff are helpful and friendly, a courtesy car for shoping is available and protection is good from the north and northwest. 6 feet or more at the dock, a very pleasent stay.

Hard to Beat, 2012-12-05
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (250)

Obviously, this marina gets high marks here and deservedly so. Mary is a great hostess, but more than that, the facility is first rate. We were there last week, it was cold, they had space heaters in the bathrooms! The separate Rec room was so comfortable. Super clean. We'll be back!

Wonderful and friendly, 2012-11-15
Captain: , Stony Point, NY (852)

Stayed here on ourway south, and were greeted by the great staff who helped us tie up to the fixed docks. They know how to get you in right. For us that was bow in and able to step off onto the high, short finger from our pilothouse.

They invited us to their bring your own and something to share happy hour in thier club house. Great to meet other boaters and the owner. I will stop again on the way back.

Comfortable, 2012-11-15

What a nice place. The only downside is the distance to a town. Great marina, clean, modern and offered more than most. Don't bypass this.

Great stop on the ICW, 2012-11-09
Captain: , Ophelia, VA (849)

This was our first time to stop at this marina in 11 trips up and down the ICW. Sorry we have not stopped here before. Facilities are great, staff is super and the evening happy hour in the club house was fun! Will stop again. Thanks!

Great stop! Glad we stayed!, 2012-11-06
Captain: , Oriental (270)

We stayed with Mary and her gang mid October. It was a great place to relax. The clubhouse is wonderful. We watched the second pres debate there. We even borrowed the courtesy car and drove to Belhaven for dinner. Really glad we stayed out with Mary!

Nice clean bathrooms, individual rooms open to the outside (at least three, maybe four (?). Wish it had been warmer b/c the pool is gorgeous and the whole area is picturesque.

Great water depths and well marked channel for newbys like us.

Dowry Creek Marina, 2012-11-04
Captain: , Kinsale, VA (91)

Our favorite marina on the ICW from the Chesapeake to West Palm. A 'Must Stay' Place! Great 'Happy Hours' place to meet and greet cruisers, and renew acquaintences. Our last stop was 18-19 October, 2012.

Great in a Hurricane, 2012-11-01
Captain: , Reedville, VA (50)

We spent a great week ducking Hurricane Sandy here from 10/25 to 11/1/12. The hospitality was very good. Updates on some of the listed costs: diesel $3.89 and pumpout was $10. Laundry facilities were good at $1.50/load to wash and$1.25/load to dry. Load actually got dry in one cycle.

Best Marina ever!, 2012-11-01
Captain: , Roseville MN (398)

We were holed up for a week here during Hurricane Sandy. Mary, the harbormistress, did a fantastic job taking care of everybody. We had informal discussions on all aspects of cruising, and potlucks or cocktail parties every night. Free car to go to town. I would ALWAYS stop here again while cruising the ICW. Love the place. Protected on all sides except south, so perfect for Sandy.

The perfect place to stop, 2012-10-30
Captain: , New Bern, NC (140)

We transported a Nordic Tug down the ICW and several boats we passed (or were passed by) mentioned they were stopping here, so we did...It was beautiful, and Mary, the owner went out of her way to accommodate us...The facilities are kept up well, a happy hour is held every day at 5:30, and she has a loaner car to hit Belhaven...Couldn't ask for more...

Great Place to stay hurricane or not, 2012-10-28
Captain: , Bristol, RI (240)

We planed on staying at Dowry a few days which turned into 4+ due to Sandy. We could not have been more pleased. The staff is extremely accommodating and helpful! The facilities are clean. The guests became instant friends offering assistance, exchanging knowledge, and sharing delicious meals with yoga as a bonus! Hope to return on the way home in the spring! Tomfoolery

About 20 boats, mostly sailboats, are spider-webbed into the pilings and docks. Her staff have been wonderful accomodating all of us. Had a cocktail party last night and potluck is tonight. The courtesy car has been great for restocking. Mark and Diana Doyle have organized seminars/discussionos. This morning was the Bahamas. This afternoon is yoga. Electronics and communication is tomorrow's am. Very interesting community here.

One of the nices marinas, 2012-10-21
Captain: , Cambridge, MD (170)

We always stop here on our way north or south. Mary and her staff are great. The boaters "happy hour" is a great place to meet fellow boaters and share sea tales. Yes, the docks are a little rustic, but the warmth of the hospitality is outstanding.

Old Friends, 2012-10-19
Captain: , Springfield, VA (130)

It only took one visit to Dowry Creek to count Mary and the entire staff as treasured friends. Eighteen visits later we still look forward to our semi-annual "reunion" and a chance to catch up over drinks and appetizers in the pool house. Mary, Brett, Brad, Nick and John provide not only the most competent assistance to arriving boaters they provide a warm and welcoming opportunity to make new friends within the boating community at the much anticipated nightly gatherings in the wonderful poolside boater's lounge. We love to pass along our best experiences and a stay at Dowry Creek is at the very top of our list!

Love this Marina, 2012-10-17
Captain: , Rock Hall, Md (230)

What makes this marina so special were the people. We had great help when we arrived. This marina has all the amenities we needed. Mary, the owner, gave us a courtesy car to go food shopping. Every night she hosts a gathering for all the boaters to meet. Serene, beautiful setting. We look forward to returning here on our return trip.

Super Friendly People, 2012-10-08
Captain: , Hollywood, MD (271)

This is our third stop at Dowry Creek Marina and we'll keep coming back as long as the service and facilities are in the hands of these fine people. They keep the place in tip top shape, offer a free loaner car, organize potluck dinners with the boaters, and can tie up a boat in the strongest of winds. It's a fun place to stop and about halfway between the Albemarle and Beaufort.

Great Place, 2012-09-23
Captain: , Bluffton, South Carolina (327)

8/14-15/2012 This was a great two-night stop. Quiet off-ICW location with quality dock and knowledgable and friendly staff. Mary and her team made us feel right at home, with nightly '''cocktail and snacks" event to get to know other visitors. Provided courtesy car to Belhaven locations for groceries and other shopping. No restaurant facilities on site, but other than that Dowry Creek was a gem. We will definitely stop there again.

Great group retreat, 2012-09-03

My power squadron group spend a weekend here with six boats and crews. WE brought in our own food and fixins to prepar on site. this is a fantastic place for a group get away. Mary was wonderful and can handle docking several boats at once. Great place.

A friendly place, 2012-09-01
Captain: , Amelia Island, FL (507)

This has to be the friendliest marina at which we have stayed since leaving Rhode Island. Not only does this small marina provide a courtesy car, it has a pool, captain's lounge, clean heads and showers and they have an impromptu bring your own happy hour every day...transients welcome. The docks are in great shape ands the owner, staff and permanent slip holders made us feel that we were part of the family.

Nice Marina, very cozy, 2012-07-27
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (231)

We stayed here 6/25/12 and would stay again if we needed a stop in the area. The staff is very friendly and the pool/captains lounge is quite nice. There is good little book exchange as well. Forget about walking to any restaurants or stores as there aren't any nearby. They do have a loaner car that we gladly made use of for a grocery run. This is a nice place, and has a bit of a Bed & Breakfast feel to it.

The best of the best!, 2012-06-23
Captain: , baltimore md (634)

We arrived 6/13/12 and left 6 days later. Dowry Creek Marina has to be one of our best stops. A stiff Northern breeze accompanied our arrival but not to worry with John and Brad handling the lines, both very experienced boaters. Along with the expert docking help came an invitation to a Pot luck dinner that evening. We had a great time meeting Mary and her daughter, Brandy, along with John's wife, Linda and Joyce, Brad's wife. It was good to meet some of the other North bound boaters that we had been " running" with, as well. Dowry Creek has all the amenities that we look for; diesel fuel, a pool, clean restrooms with showers, ice, courtesy car, good electric, water dockside and washers/dryers. Now the main ingredient..SOCIAL. Dowry Creek could be a model for the perfect neighborhood. Don't "Miss The Boat" Stop here.

A must return place, 2012-06-23

Captain: , Dunedin, FL (6425)

Well marked channel coming in, lots of help docking. Side boards between the pilings if tying up to face dock. Finger piers are short if you pull into slip. Nighly happy hour in the boaters' lounge next to the pool. Marina even has tennis courts if you are interested. Lots of grass to walk your dog. Mary was very helpful as were all the other boaters at Dowry Creek. Courtesy car if you need groceries from Bellhaven (not close) Last marina before Pungo-Alligator canal if heading north.

A GOOD PLACE TO STOP, 2012-05-19
Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1523)

After River Dunes we have been spoiled. This marina is more like what we expect. Very helpful staff, courtesy car, help tying up in a big blow, clean rest rooms, boaters lounge and loaner car. I would give it 5 stars if the docks were a little better, but the staff makes up for it.

This is our 2nd time here. We came here on our way down and returned because of how these incredible people are and how they treat us.
To really appreciate Dowry Creek, Mary, the Owner; John & Linda, Brad & Joyce, the Dockhands and their wives; you have to come here. No one can say it better than what Karen Siegel wrote on May 9, 2012.
We will visit here every time we are in the area.

Bellhaven's best stopover, 2012-05-09
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (639)

This is one of out favorite stopovers on the ICW. Mary is very welcoming and the docking staff is very helpful. We fueled at our side-tie dock. The restrooms and showers were excellent as was the pool and boaters lounge. We used the courtesy car to go to dinner in town at the Fish restaurant - very good with a very local flavor. Easy on and off the ICW.

Great stop, 2012-05-05
Captain: , Mystic, CT (150)

We visited on our way South and had a great time with the afternoon cocktail get together with fellow boaters and Mary, the owner. On this stop going North, it was more of the same. Great dock help getting in, fueled up and into the slip. The bathrooms are very clean and facilities well kept. The location may be away from the downtown area but with the courtesey car makes up for it. A must stop if your in the area.

12-4-2011, third stop. Still great service. No WiFi this time. Diesel $3.89.

03/22/2012 Diesel still $3.89. WiFi working great. It's Mary and Dowry Creek, why go anywhere else.

outstanding marina, 2012-03-10

Stayed 03/09/12 for three days waiting for the Albemarle to quiet down. Don't understand the fuel price complaints. Considering price increase everywhere they were competetive. You won't find a friendlier, family type atmosphere in any other marina. You will feel very welcome from the time you first tie up.

Captain: , Downingtown, Pa (111)

This is our 4th stay and wouldn't consider passing them by; we feel like family. Mary and her live-aboard help are the best.

Excellent, clean facilities, loaner car to visit near-by Belhaven, laundry, swimming pool and free WiFi. It's an easy, well marked, in and out, just off the ICW, diesel and non-ethanol gas always available.

All that and a nightly happy hour/meet-and-great in the club house. We've been up and down the east coast and the Bahamas and this really is the best.

We stayed here on the way north and made a point to stop back on the way south. This is a wonderful, friendly marina as other reviews have stated. The clubhouse is very nice and there was a pot-luck dinner hosted by Mary. Restroom/showers are A+++. Easy in, easy out. Courtesy car, swimming pool (not that it was warm enough!). Perfect.

5 " Golden" Stars, Dowry Creek deserves nothing less!!., 2011-11-02
Captain: , Charleston SC (805)

This is our final night of a 3 week stay at Dowry Creek Marina waiting on Nov. 1st. for insurance clearance to head south. We could not have found a better marina or a more delightful atmosphere to spend our insurance induced lay over.
Our reception was totally proffessional, prompt response to our VHF call, patient and knowledgeable assistance in docking even to the point of connecting shore power and briefing on the services provided at the Marina. The two Dock Masters who are residents of the marina can be likened to "air traffic controllers" as they carefully shepherd each yacht to its assigned slip.No hurry, no fuss. no bother!.
The social highlight is each evennings BYOB gatherings at the Club House. Boats may, and do if they wish, bring a covered dish or just a bag of chips what ever the galley provides.
In 3 weeks we have never gone away hungry and always delighted by the opportunity to meet the crews of other boats to exchange information and sea storys.
Dowry Creek is conveniently situated at MM132 on the AICW, easy access down a clearly visable and charted marked channel close to G"15" on the Pungo River.
Fuel, pump out, swimming pool, tennis courts, internet connection,TV in club House, pet friendly, courtesy car for trips to Food Lion in Belhaven, barbeque for cook outs. All offered at Dowry Creek at most reasonable dockage rates. But paramount are the friendly knowledgeable staff led by the marina owner Mary who sets a new standard of hospitality for the mariner in transit.

Our luck! We got potluck!, 2011-10-29
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (386)

We arrived on a cold, rainy and blustery afternoon, the kind of day you just want to "hunker down" in your cabin with warm food. But Mary told us she was hosting a potluck dinner that night and we were so glad we went. The delicious food, cozy room, spirited conversation made us glad that we stopped for the night. Mary has potlucks every so often but has happy hour every night. This is a special place.

Easy navigation, 2011-10-28
Captain: , Rock Hall, Maryland (119)

Call them and they will give you the course in from the ICW. They put private aids to navigation that make it easy but stay within the marked channel. Made it in with sailboat with 5.5 ft draft, no problem. Staff friendly and helpful.

What can be said after everyone has already sung the praises of Dowry Creek Marina? Only that this is the nicest facility we have ever been to. This isn%u2019t just a bunch of cruisers. It%u2019s family. Every evening you miss the ones that sailed on, and welcome the ones that just came in. You search the room for familiar faces, and always smile when you see Mary.

Glad we stopped here. Maryis great - lent us a car to get propane and groceries - kids swam in pool - showers clean.

Had a potluck dinner in the "clubhouse" with other cruisers. Great place. Highly reccomend.

Marina Back in Action, 2011-09-10

Mary and crew got the marina back in action after Irene. As always, wonderful people and place. Well worth the stay! And, a marina car for groceries.

Nice Place, 2011-09-09
Captain: , Oriental, NC (65)

They were hit pretty hard by the hurricane but remain open. Mary was very nice. Clean bath house and theybdid a good job of cleaning up after the hurricane. You can see they were hit hard by the damage off the grounds and in town.

Great Little Marina, 2011-08-21
Captain: , Dataw Island, SC (290)

After cruising through the channel at Belhaven and looking at the marinas, we turned north and went another few miles to Dowry Creek Marina and were glad we did. Mary is the owner and offers excellent service and amenities. Liveaboards are very friendly and help with docking. Fuel and pump out right on dock. Nice cruiser's lounge with 1730 daily get togethers. We would certainly stay here again.

Nice stop near Belhaven, 2011-07-22
Captain: , Palmetto Fl (545)

We had anchored in Pungo Creek and checked out Belhaven and this was a better stop. Winds out of the SW will blow right into the marina and make for a bouncy night. Nice bathrooms and showers. Great pool and clubhouse. There wasn't any beer can chicken or boaters happy hour when we were there. Two liveaboard dockhands gave us great directions to get into the marina and helped us tie up. We were there on a Wednesday and it was quiet. The slips are narrow and could use some work. Ask to be at the tie-along dock. Mosquitoes came out in droves at night from the marsh nearby. Dog friendly.

Feels like coming home, 2011-06-21
Captain: , New bedford (122)

Mary and the gang at Dowry Creek provide a warm, safe, and well-priced stopover in a beautiful little corner just north of Belhaven. This was our second stop here, and it is one of the highlights of the ICW.

I want to go back..., 2011-06-19
Captain: , Annapolis (95)

We feel like...nevermind, we know that we have friends in Belhaven. One night wasn't enough to truly appreciate the kindness and hospitality that Mary and her crew showed us, but it was enough to let us know that we would be back. A great reason to travel the ICW.

Excellent stop, 2011-06-07
Captain: , Warsaw, Ky (875)

Stopped here based on recommendation from other Active Captain users. We were very pleased with our decision. The marina is a family run operation. The folks there are helpful getting you setted in, knowledgeable of the area and very friendly.

Once we got tied up we were invited to a pot luck "beer can chicken" dinner. It was wonderful.

I would recommend this marina as a stop to anyone for a day or a week or more.

We were offed the use of their courtesy car, something we have seldom seen on the east coast.

Very friendly, helpful stop, 2011-06-06
Captain: , Madison, Ohio (400)

Stoped here because of all the good comments from other cruisers we met in the Bahamas. They were right, wonderful stop, loaner car, all the help you could want, even got invited to the beer can chicken potluck they were having that night. Will stop again.

Absolutely Must Stay, 2011-06-03
Captain: , Palm Beach County (30)

After a 16 hour day trucking North, found this little out of the way place past Belhaven and could not have found a nicer, friendlier, 'welcome home' type atmosphere anywhere. Arrived around 6pm to find a few 'dock hands' who keep their boats here on hand to help dock. They mentioned not to be late for dinner, which was about to be served, which I laughingly thought was just politness, but went to the Clubhouse and, wow! Tilapia, Softshell Crab, Zucchini souffle', peas n rice, carrots, salad, dessert; everyone there was have a potluck and this tired, hungry traveler wholeheartedly donated $10.00 to the cause for an outstanding home cooked meal on the Porch. Mary was friendly, attentive, and even snagged me the last piece of cake! Excellent wi-fi, protected dockage, this is a 'don't miss' stop!

Southern Charm, 2011-05-30
Captain: , York River Yacht Basin (30)

We'd echo all the comments about the great staff and truly appreciated the help docking in a strong wind. There's no ATT wireless coverage in this area so Chn 16 is the best way to let them know you're arriving. Free wireless so Skype is an easy way to make calls.

Home away from home!, 2011-05-11
Captain: , Camp Lejeune (61)

Simple, Dowry Creek Marina is a great marina with an OUTSTANDING owner and help who invented the phrase "make you feel at home". One must be careful though, our two night stay ended up being more than a week. We lovingly call it "Hotel California". Get the picture?

This marina is the best of the best, 2011-05-11
Captain: , Marathon, FL (458)

Don't miss a visit to Dowry Creek Marina. Mary is a wonderful hostess and, if you are there on the right night, you will be fed a sumptious meal of beer can chicken. Bring a side dish to share and swap stories with the other cruisers. It is a distance from town, but they have a courtesy car for you to use.

Friendly Staff, 2011-05-11
Captain: , Caseville, MI (341)

Dowry Creek Marina is always a great stop. Mary and her staff go out of their way to make you feel at home. The day we stopped they just happened to be having their beer can chicken and everyone brought a dish to pass. We appreciate the laundry facilities on site and use of the courtesy car. Verizon air card varied between 1-2 bars.

Captain: , Westport,Ma (700)

after hearing how cruiser friendly this marina is we thought we woud give it a try. The docks are not is the best of shape but they will hold your boat.
However everything else about this marina is great, they have a pool and club house and coctails everynight BYOB great friendly people. The night we were here there was a chicken dinner free of charge bring a dish to share. the grounds are very well done and the view is beautiful. Very removed from town but they have a courtesy car as well. Price was good. We most definetly will return.

Captain: , East Greenwich, RI (212)

We were impressed with Doiwry Creek Marina when we stopped on our southward journey in the fall. So, when it was time to turn the bow north and head for home Dowry was at the top of our list. We enjoyed cocktails and snacks in the clubhouse and thouroughly enjoyed sharing stories with Mary and her staff (friends).

Nice Stop on the ICW, 2010-11-05
Captain: , Baltimore (317)

We stopped here for the 2nd year in a row on 10/31/2010. It is a nice place. They have a courtesy car that you can use to go to the local Food Lion (which is not that great). If anybody wants to buy a marina, this place is for sale. I think that is what they told me last year as well. It's a very long day for us to get here from Coinjock at 6 knots.

Gotta love rural marinas, 2010-10-25

Tired of busy marinas located next to large towns. You have to try Dowry Creek Marina. A special thanks to Mary for her hospitality.

A hidden Jewel.., 2010-07-22
Captain: , Kingtston Ontario (273)

Stopped here last November during a storm heading down south, stayed a week. We decided to stop here for the summer on our way back north. Mary is fantastic and will go out of her way to make sure you have a wonderful stay. There is a large clean pool. A car to use to go into Belhaven, not to be used to go to Washington! Tennis courts. They are very pet friendly. There is a happy hour every night at the clubhouse by the pool and often a pot luck get together. Very reasonable rates especially long term.

Nice marina with a large pool and a courtesy car available. They offer a Marina Life discount .15/ft. They have Wifi but you will have to ask for the password, not provided at check in. No At&t IPhone service. Not sure about Verizon cell service but had Verizon broadband service.

We arrived on a 95+ degree day. The entrance channel is well marked and getting into the slip was easy with the two dockhands available to take lines. Boater's potluck at 5:30.

The only downside: the tap water was not pleasant to drink.

Comfortable & Friendly, 2007-08-28

Dowry Creek continues to set the standard for transient accomodations in the area. An easy approach, the marina provides protection from most directions. A clean well apointed boaters lounge includes cable TV and a decent library. On the right night, the owner may offer "beer can chicken" with boaters contributing pot luck and beverages.

Being hung up here due to weather is not a bad thing at all!
