Reviews for Downtown Hampton Public Piers
weekend escape from bad weather - great Marina Staff!!, 2017-09-06
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (154)

Special thanks to Tom and John for their great support on our late night arrival from a nasty storm that accelerated into the Chesapeake Bay. Tom had our slips assigned to accommodate a 2300 arrival and tie-up under heavy winds, and facilitites keys ready for us for a desperately needed clean-up. To our surprise, he also had a bag of fresh-picked veggies from the marina garden waiting for us. Absolutely first class marina staff that sets the high-bar standard for excellence. Tom and John...thanks.

Captain: , St. Marks fl (40)

First off the dock hand Tom is really into his job and a pleasure to deal with. The marina is very nice.and all the people we met seemed very nice..BUT.. ya would think a place that has been a harbor for 400 years would have a nice is small with lots of crap on the bottom,we caught a pipe and dragged our keel on something all night that sounded like cement.Come on guys lets live up to our sea faring legacy, not just the bucks( you can do both)

Wonderful!, 2017-05-31
Captain: , Phoenix, AZ (484)

Great location - walk to restaurants and other nice things, and the marina loans nice bikes for stuff further away. Four stars because the docks make it tricky for larger boats without a bow thruster, as the fingers are short (18') on the floating docks, and there can be current We got in OK (48' sail), but next time I think we'll opt for the bulkhead.
Staff is VERY friendly and helpful!

Great Marina!, 2017-05-16
Captain: , Chattanooga (70)

This marina is great - friendly, helpful staff. Facilities are clean. Wifi worked well. Enterprise car rental right there and we took advantage of that - drove to Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown. We rode bikes (loaners from marina) to Fort Monroe which was fun. We stayed here in bad winds and never felt the wind at the marina since it is so well protected. We will definitely return here!

Excellent Service, 2017-04-18
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (270)

Nice Facilities, CLEAN bathrooms, very friendly and helpful staff, well done welcome package. Great BoatUS discounted rate. We will be back to visit again. PS: We are here again and came in out of very nasty seas and 25 to 30 knot winds. I left a message that we needed to dock unexpectedly and the dock hand, Tom, called me back right away. He had been scheduled for attending a tour and cancelled in order to help us dock in very high winds. He gave us great directions in and was on the dock to help us tie up with expertise. We really appreciated being snug and safe at the dock in this weather that was not forecast. Thank you, Tom, for your knowledge and prompt response to us and our travelling companion sailboat!

The perfect spot for an overnighter or a week or two!, 2017-03-31
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (30)

A great place to visit with good foods and beverages all about! A brand new craft brewery has just opened facing the docks and you can sip a fleet of brews whist watchihg the quiet marina activity. The Docmaster is always ready to handle your lines on arrival and the dayly slip prices are half the normal rate. THE place to go!

4.5 to 5 Stars, 2017-02-25
Captain: , Curtis Bay, MD (70)

Five stars for convenience to restaurants, bars, and the Virginia Air and Space Center. Grocery stores and marine stores a bit farther away, but they do lend bikes to make it easier. Enterprise is right there and Bull Island Brew Pub is 100 feet away. (Good beer! No food yet, but they say it's coming). The floating docks are nice, and it's very dog friendly.

Chinese food will deliver right to your boat, 2016-12-01
Captain: , Ottawa (113)

Wanted to eat out but not going out.... so we ordered from Golden City. Food was here in less then 15 minutes and, even though a crew member was out to meet the delvery driver, he still call me to know if I wanted the food at the boat.

Great stop, 2016-11-08
Captain: , Massapequa,NY (1176)

Nice marina, close to downtown with several good restaurants. Attentive dockmaster, good wifi, dog friendly.

Great downtown, Nice Marina, 2016-10-23
Captain: , Confetti, Kadey Krogen (1699)

We really love Hampton - a great small town with stores and restaurants in walking distance to the marina. You can also easily bike to Home Depot, Food Lion or West Marine. A great new addition to the water front is the Bull Island Brewing Company. Great staff and a wonderful selection of craft beers. You can bring your own food in and enjoy a beer, looking out over the water.
Marina staff were very friendly and helpful. They have a Boaters Vegetable Garden on the docks which you can pick from at no cost. We picked delicious parsley one night for our dinner.
One downside of the marina is there is only one washer and one dryer so if the marina is crowded you really have to wait awhile to get your turn. Also, the wifi was intermittent - not sure if folks nearby may have been streaming movies or what the reason was for slow and sometimes absent wifi.
All in all, a very nice stay and we will come again!

Great Stop, 2016-10-17
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (310)

Participated in the Hampton Snowbird Rendevouz (which was awesome) and stayed 4 nights. Staff were friendly and accomodating, location is well protected and plenty of attractions within 6 blocks of walking distance. We will stay again on our way back north,

Another Great Stay, 2016-10-16
Captain: , Cambridge, MD (170)

We always try to stay at Hampton Public Piers when we are passing through the Hampton area. This year we decided to "hide out" from Hurricane Matthew as he came up the coast. This is a safe harbor for any major weather you might encounter as you travel the ICW. We had a pleasant surprise as the Hampton Snowbird Rendezvous was taking place this past weekend. We are so glad that we were able to attend as the seminars, speakers, and most of all, fellow boaters made our stay very informative. I would highly recommend you attending next years rendezvous when you make your treck south.
John and Tom were outstanding handling all the snowbird boats. Of course the downtown resturants, Air and Space museum, and the history of this area kept us entertained for our stay.

Good Stop, Particularly If You Like History, 2016-09-30
Captain: , Wrightsville beach, NC (424)

Helpful staff, modern facilities. Bridge at north end a bit noisy if windows open. Short finger piers-12'. Great protection from all wind directions. Several casual restaurants a 3 block walk. Excellent museums: Va Air and Space Museum-1 block, Hampton History Museum-3 blocks, Mariners Museum-20 minutes via Uber-$12 one way.

Excellent place to wait out bad weather, 2016-09-21
Captain: , Buffalo (1154)

Very sheltered from wind, and little current. Excellent concrete floating docks, good wifi, nice bathrooms. And if you are delayed by weather, Enterprise Car rental is on site, and Virginia Air and Space Center is only a block away.

Great dock in downtown Hampton, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Hampton, VA (150)

Great place to tie up for a few hours right in downtown Hampton. Walking distance to some great restaurants & bars as well as the Air & Space Center and IMAX theater. If you're just staying for a few hours it's free as well.

Very nice stop on our way north, 2016-07-18
Captain: , Tampa, FL (35)

Stayed at the city docks to get some work done on the diesel and frige. Dockhand Tom was very patient with us newbies as we backed into the slip (sideways) and he helped us greatly with our lines to straighten our Island Packet backing up. Very nice garden at the office and Tom's generosity with sharing made our salads very fresh and delicious. We will be back on our way south again.

Nice inexpensive place to stay., 2016-07-10
Captain: , North Charleston, SC (752)

First. I'm here on July 10, 2016 and the dockmaster told me they no longer have an agreement with the hotel to use the ammenities. I suppose you can just walk in and see what happens.

Yes, the finger piers are short but they are floating and that makes things much simpler. The dockhand/master was friendly and competent.

You are right in the heart of town with many restaurants and shops. This is our second time here and it's where we stay when we're passing through Hampton.

Nice place to stay a few days, 2016-04-24
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (3189)

Dock staff helpful and friendly. Good amount of resturants nearby. Good washrooms and showers. Laundry available. Floating docks in very good condition. Some current so slack would be helpful for docking. Finger piers are 16' so backing in is the way to go. If you stay more that three days joining patron program would save you money. Discount is good for a year.

Perfect entry point or wait area to exit the bay, 2015-11-23
Captain: , Road Harbour - BVI (789)

We stayed here for three weeks while trouble shooting an engine issue. Once fixed, we waited here for a weather window to exit the bay and head south to the Caribbean. This is a great marina to sit and wait for a good weather window. There are plenty of restaurants in a nice walk friendly historic downtown area.

We rented a car and made several trips to Costco and Wal-Mart to provision. The Enterprise car rental facility is in the parking garage by the marina. Hampton offers all the big box stores as well as club stores.

The City of Hampton has fast and free wi-fi everywhere.

Showers and restrooms are clean and are located in the office building. This can be a bit of a walk if you dock at close to the bridge.

The dock fingers are short. This is a bit of a crazy set up. It requires a stern tie up. Currents in the area can make this a bit of a challenge. It is not hard but be aware of the tide

We highly recommend this marina as a sit and wait point to exit the bay. It has good protection and is an easy in and out.

Good Provisioning Stop, 2015-11-21
Captain: , Philadelphia, Pa. (201)

Easy to get to, dockage is secure (would be even in a blow). Free bikes, laundry was a bit pricey but with the stay 3 nights get fourth free it was worth it. Staff were very nice and helpful rates were good.

Nice town and stay, 2015-11-02
Captain: , Moyock, NC (1084)

Oct 15-19, 2015 we came for the Snowbird Rendezvous. It's amazing how Hampton's marina utilized their space along the water front. Although they do not have typical 5-star emenities, the facilities they have are very nice, new, clean, and more than ample for a brief stay. The town has a lot to offer and it is a beautiful nastolgic waterfront especially with the wonderful enclosed and operating carousal next door, museums within 1-2 blocks, restaurants, and shops.

Location, location , 2015-10-24
Captain: , Fells Point, MD (98)

In addition to great location, a three block walk will get you to the bus station. A single bus (102) will take you to West Marine, BJs, and a large shopping center with all the major stores. The all day bus pass is $4 pp, $2 pp for seniors. Very convenient!

Great municipal marina, 2015-10-18
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1342)

Good facilities. Outstanding staff. Nice town. Must have ground transportation for grocery or West Marine. WiFi is nearly useless. Good cell signals for AT&T and Verizon.

Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1643)

Stayed here for 4 days during the Snowbird Rendezvous. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Rendezvous hosts could not be better. Close to town and lots of restaurants.

Inexpensive, excellent downtown locaition, 2015-10-06
Captain: , Poughkeepsie, NY (6077)

They have excellent, floating concrete docks for transients but the fingers are only 1/2 boat length long so back in unless you can get off the front of your boat. It is more difficult to dock here than it appears. Take note of the current before docking, it runs at a right angle to the docks and will push you sideways more than you expect. Have a line ready to catch a piling.

The Virginia Air and Space museum is a block away with an I-MAX, excellent exhibits - they have a moon rock on display! The best place to eat for us was The Taphouse, basically a bar with 36 types of beers on tap but the food was very good. It's two blocks away.

An area to walk the dog was nearby but with Joaquin, the hurricane, it was underwater at times. The water rose but there was never any danger of the docks floating off the pilings, they have plenty of height. You have good protection from the north with the six story parking garage in front of the docks.

If you come over a weekend, you can rent a car Friday and return it Monday for only $35 from the Enterprise office only 200 feet from the marina. There's a Walmart, Westmarine and Home Depot in the area as well as lots of things to see.

If you join their boating club, it's only $0.75/ft with the fourth night free.

Right downtown, 2015-09-04
Captain: , Honolulu (712)

Modern facilities right next to the bridge downtown. Convenient to restaurants/shopping. $1.50 per foot. Stayed 9/18/15

Fun area with a lot of activities close, 2015-07-30
Captain: , Grand Haven, MI (684)

Stayed the weekend third week in July. Two to Three foot tied was not a problem on the face dock. We walked the block to restaurants and a block party on Saturday. Crown Plaza hotel had music both Friday and Saturday nights. But not loud enough to bother when inside the boat. Enterprise car rental 100' away and coffee shop next door.
Bathrooms clean and a separate shower area. Only one of the showers in the Mens was working. We were given a key to the rest rooms, however mens was never locked. Not a problem.
All in all had a great stay, loved interacting with people heading out on the fishing excursion boat right across the dock. Some may not like the activity at 6:oo AM but for the most part quiet and, again, not a problem.

Top drawer marina, 2015-07-13
Captain: , Knoxville, Tennessee (230)

We've stopped at this marina twice and stayed for several days each time. Tom and Jake couldn't have been nicer. We have a 43' Ocean Alexander which is on the large size for their transient slips, but they have a face dock right in front which can accommodate a couple 50 footers. On the same dock is a charter fishing boat that goes out 3 times a day so plenty of activity. You're right downtown with access to several good restaurants, the VA Air and Space Museum, and an Enterprise car rental. Nice restroom facilities with a front loading washer and dryer at $2 per load.

hidden jewel, 2015-06-11
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (1522)

Back Again, 6/2/15 for a week. Docked with 48ft Sea Ray at the docks next to the Carosel. The area was being Dredged last time i was here. We were the closest bulkhead to the Fishery so it did tend to be a little noisey and bright but was able to park a rental car fairly close Had fun at the restaurants near by. did not eat in the hotel restaurants. Staff was very helpful and made sure we were docked in before they left.
Will always come back here rather then going to Norfolk when traveling North.

2nd time here in a year. At 60ft they docked us in front of the office which was perfect. The area by the air and space center was being dredged and will be a great dockage when done.
The staff is super friendly and helpful as are the ladies working the information desk and little gift shop.
Just a couple of blocks and you are in the restaurant area. Try Marker 20 for great food. We'll continue to return to this jewel of a stop.

enjoyable spot try it out, 2015-05-05
Captain: , Ft Myers, Florida (1804)

Different than Norfolk, the admiral like Hampton better and I like Norfolk.
Helpful staff, clean rest rooms did not check out the showers. Excellent ATT signal. Methodist Church one block, Sunday 830 and 11 service.
Virginia Air and Space Museum two blocks away. Liked the IMAX movies, museum small but good if u like air and spacecraft, which I do. Museum free with IMAX ticket.
Main Street has several good restaurants/bars. Saturday night they shut down the street and have a free live-concert/dance, was excellent . Good safe area around the marina, several beautiful walks including walking through the beautiful Black University, Hampton U.

Great spot for a weekend trip, 2015-04-12
Captain: , Seaford, VA (1049)

Update 4/12/2015 All still the same and generally quiet. As noted elsewhere, finger piers are short, and with no piling between the double wide slips, it is tricky to tie up securely---back in and have your fenders positioned low and aft.

Update: 9/13/2014 Floating docks still look new and are easy as long as the current isn't running too strongly. It was the weekend after Bay Days, so it was pretty quiet. We were at the end closest to the bridge but there was little traffic noise to contend with. Wi-fi still does not work at the end of the docks.
It's a nice spot to take pictures of your boat from above, either from the bridge of the parking garage just behind the docks.

9/2012 Our four boats came for the weekend and had a great time. Chase the dockmaster was very professional and helpful, even locating a local bike shop for one of us in our group. Finger piers are short, but easy to get into the slips, very protected with little wind and only a slight current. Lots to see and do in downtown Hampton. Wi-fi was a little weak, but no else seems to have complained so maybe it was just me. Overall we had a great time and will be back.

Good value, great staff, 2014-10-26
Captain: , Annapolis (3379)

The staff is friendly and competent. Quick to answer the telephone or the radio. They are great ambassadors for Hampton. The docks and dock power are all in good shape. Facilities are clean. Several good restaurants close by. Food Lion is 1.5 miles and the marina does have bikes.

Clean & Convenient, 2014-10-22
Captain: , Stuart FL (778)

As noted below, staff is helpful and professional; pier is solid and well-maintained; handy location with most facilities / services within 3/4 mile (West Marine, of course, is 3.5 miles inland!). Taphouse Grill is 3 blocks away with extensive selection of regional beers and tasty food at reasonable prices.

Nice Docks, 2014-10-12
Captain: , Aquia Harbour, VA (1177)

We try to dock here at slack or near slack current. With the very short finger piers, we must back in which can be difficult with current running . The slips are appoximately 45 feet long. Slips 18/19 are closest to the bridge and at an angle. Restrooms are clean. Staff are helpful and friendly. The marina is well lighted at night.

Good value/Great location, 2014-09-26
Captain: , Arnold, MD (263)

We agree with most of the other positive reviews. The price, location, and staff are all five-star. The floating docks are a plus, but the short finger piers make tying off in a blow pretty challenging. When you back in (as you pretty much must do) there is no pier cleat to tie off the bow. A far-out piling is all you have to work with. Overall though, we will definitely be back.

Worth The Stop, 2014-09-25
Captain: , Hampton, VA (314)

Hampton makes a very nice stop. There are many restaurants, museums, and marine services. The Virginia Air and Space museum is especially worthy of your time. Weekends generally have a community event taking place.

The public piers are very nice docks with restrooms, showers, and laundry. They are conveniently located near all downtown facilities. The staff is very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful.

Graet time, 2014-09-03
Captain: , Philadelphia, PA (40)

Great location and FANTASTIC staff! Docks appear new, bathrooms spotless. Good restaurants nearby but found a fantastic Tapas one in Phoebus about a 35- 40 minute walk past the university!

Looking a little long in the tooth, 2014-09-01
Captain: , Annapolis MD (191)

Nice location to resturants, etc. Didn't feel comfortable with docking arrangements. Downsides are short fingers, cleats either broken or wrong place and only one mooring piling. Staff very friendly.

always a good time, 2014-08-29
Captain: , Portsmouth Virginia (208)

Stayed at the Hampton Public Piers again last week. We arrived in time for the monthly Hampton block party and then had a few drinks at Marker 20. On Sunday we borrowed the free bikes and rode around town for a while before we shoved off. the dock master was very friendly and informative. We noticed that they had a very nice herb garden free to boaters. I will warn that when we were here last year we had the west most slip. the current was coming in and there was a strong East wind. We had to plan carefully so that we could get our 43' sailboat safety out of the slip and turned outbound before we got too close to the fixed bridge. They had free Wi-Fi also.

Excellent. Highly recommend it, 2014-08-29
Captain: , North Myrtle Beach, SC (3210)

At $1.25/ft (with MTOA membership), nice facilities, location, safe, quiet, minimal waking, staff very helpful, this is the place to stay here. Finger piers are short, and this is why not rated higher. If I had to pay retial, then maybe three stars. I think they take BoatUS too. We will be back here again.

Nice public facility, 2014-07-14
Captain: , Bethlehem, PA (736)

Helpful staff, must be able to lasso a high piling on pier. Shower and laundry facilities nice and grocery (Food Lion) within walking distance.

Excellent stop heading north or south, 2014-06-19
Captain: , Englewood, Fl (351)

We were here on May 28 & 29, 2014, everything was excellent. Took advantage of the facilties at the Crown Plaza using the swimming pool and a free newspaper each morning.

Nice stop and great location, 2014-06-19
Captain: , Fernandina, FL (448)

Great location. Enterprise car rental at manrina for run to stores. Walmart, Target, West Marine (small) and Town Center-lots of shops and restaurants, grocery, seafood market all within 15 minute drive. Good staff and price. Very short finger piers so I will back in next time. Museums and galleries so lots to do. Laundry is stacked and no place to put anything down. Need bench or something to set stuff down.

Great Location and Destination, 2014-06-15
Captain: , Solomons, Md (40)

Our experience from beginning to end very positive. Dock Master, Jake, and his entire support staff very helpful and professional. Good clean facilities. Great access to local restaurants and events such as the weekend "block party" with live entertainment on Saturdays during the summer. Rental car (Enterprise) right next to marina for hourly or daily use. IMAX theater in the air and space museum shows current movies. Great dog friendly town. Herb garden at the dock for use by guests

Lovely clean town, 2014-05-18
Captain: , Palm Beach Gardens, FL (1997)

Enjoyed our stop here. The town was very clean and there is plenty to keep you busy with museums and the I-max theater.
Crowne Plaza useage is also a good perc.
Only thing I would do different next time is back into the slip as we have a 10' bow and with only 15' finger piers you gave to be a athletic monkey to get up and down.

Great Stop!, 2014-05-06
Captain: , Kinsale, VA (91)

Service is great as usual - we stopped for 2 nites to wait out weather (5-6 May 2014 - Weather didn't amount to much). Facilities are neat and clean. The Dockmasters (Jake and Ashley) are very friendly and helpful. Found a great (pub) place for lunch nearby, about a 2 minute walk away from the marina, called GOODY's (11 Queens Way, Hampton, VA). Also toured the Virginia Air & Space Center which is also located next door to the Marina. Spent several hours looking at the Aerospace Exhibits , and they also have an IMAX theater- time well spent.

Secure Harbour with attractions, 2014-04-23

This is a very secure harbour to hide from weather and have much to do while waiting it out. When headed North a great spot to jump into the bay headed north when a weather window opens. Bathrooms are good but overtasked between house keeping from the tour and charter customers. and had trash on the floor and stall were dirty. The handicap shower was not clean. Overflow wall is on the other side of the Custom House Marina on the bulkhead nearest the Carousal. Current;y there was a dredge docked there but not sure if dredging is taking place. Water depth there at low tide is 6' true depth reportedly dredged? Sept. 2013. Power is commercial 208volt 120 degree sine wave if you have chargers or motors object. The perferred patron plan is a ggod deal if you plan to come back or stay. < 40' for $50 fee gets membership that drops dockage to $.75 a foot with 5th night free. Membership is good for 365 days and the fifth night does not need be consecutive. Enterprise is 2 blocks and thus this becomes a great spot to tour the nearby icon parks e.g. Williamsburg, Yorktown, Jamestown...etc. I still consider this marina and it's wonderful staff and location which would merit 5 stars if the bathroom showers were clean. Hopefully that was an oversight .

Great stop for Tidewater area, 2014-04-17
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (380)

Stayed here both southbound in November and again in April northbound. Great experience both times. Staff is very Friendly and helpful, restaurants in the area are walkable and nice, facilities are good, price is reasonable, shelter is excellent. Only thing to watch for is an unexpected amount of current when it's running. I prefer this hands-down over Waterside in Norfolk.

Absolutely great service!, 2014-03-17
Captain: , Coconut Grove (166)

I came by last fall and was very impressed by the operation. Everyone working there was top notch and genuinely helpful. Kate in the gift shop was so sweet to loan me her truck for a grocery run. I never had it so good! And, only a dollar for showers all day if you are anchored out! This will be a regular stop for me now.

Great Town Facility, 2013-12-16
Captain: , Crockett (610)

We stayed twice and really enjoyed ourselves.

The docks are well maintained and the staff are very helpful in getting you secure in your slip. We spent a week here the first time renting a car doing all the tourist/history stuff the area has to offer.

We came back later in the season just to relax before we began our prep to head to the Caribbean.

Great place, 2013-11-20
Captain: , Hurricane, WV (252)

Great place to stop for a night or for several days. We were pleased to see their very clean neat well maintained facility in this lovely town. There is a very nice city park with a good steel fence just a few steps North of the facilty for the dogs to enjoy, (and romp around after dark). Good places to eat....I was there on 11/1/13 and again on 11/9/13 and I will make a point of stopping again.

Good stopover with sights to see, 2013-10-23
Captain: , Charlestown (946)

Good place to stop and take in some history. A self-guided tour at the old Fort at Fort Monroe has a lot to offer. The Air and Space Museum was a bit of a disappointment. They do have an IMAX theater that shows current movies. The facilities are nice and clean and the staff very helpful. The laundry has only one washer and dryer, so get on line early. There is a Laundromat over the bridge on the right hand side perhaps a mile. Groceries are at Food Lion or Fresh Farms each about 1.5 miles in either direction of the marina. Restaurants are a short walk to Queens Way. We enjoyed Conch and Bucket, good food and reasonable prices.

Wonderful stop, 2013-09-06
Captain: , Port Everglades (595)

Good facilities, pleasant staff and very competitive price. Lots to see in the Air and Space Museum, and lots of places to eat and drink. Good bicycles available and Food Lion is only a couple of miles.

Not as nice as expected, 2013-08-30
Captain: , Austin, TX (346)

The location in Hampton appears to be the best of all the marinas. However, it is still a pretty good hike to a grocery store if you want to do substantial provisioning. Also no nearby marine supply store. A number of restaurants nearby. The transcient docks near the harbormasters office were in excellent condition but short floating fingers left much to be desired. We went in bow first because of a dinghy on davits. There is a piling at the end of the short finger and another outboard of the finger, but no pilings berween adjacent boats in the double slips. Our boat (30 ft) is too short for the outboard piling to catch our hull. Even with a line to this piling the boat is primarily secured only by the front half of the boat. We had no actual problems but I would not feel secure in a real blow. On the positive side the dockmaster crew was very friendly and helpful. And the prices are unbeatable. We were there for four nights and cetarinly enjoyed the free 4th night. We had a couple of good meals at the nearby Regatta Grill. As some others have reported the cleaning crew was slacking off in care of the showers and restroom.

The Jewel of Hampton, 2013-08-29
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (745)

Our first time here. But, not last. Great well protected spot. Easy walk to museums and restaurants. The dockmaster was very helpful. If the party group from Seaford, VA is here when you are prepare to have a great time. Floating piers very nice for easy access to your boat. Nice safe location in a big city. Plenty of boat help in the area if you need it.

On our second stop here our original review still stands. The facility is very convienent to dowtown Hampton. The dockmaster, Jake, is a pleasure to deal with. He could not be more helpful or friendly. This is a must stop in Hampton.

GREAT SPOT, 2013-08-23
Captain: , Vancouver, Canada (487)

The marina staff are very friendly. New rules..stay 3 nights and get the 4th night free. So plan ahead. CVS and Walgrens both within a 10 min walk. Enterprise rental is right next door to the marina. The bar called Latitudes 37 has a great Happy Hour and on Wed eve has live jazz music. The bar serves up all three restaurant menus.. Crab Dip ..Crab Bisque are both awesome and the Fish and Chips only $10.

Some Deficiencies Corrected, 2013-08-05
Captain: , Norfolk Virginia (481)

Spent Saturday evening at the piers with decision to go after reading. Heads and showers were quite clean and neat. We were down on the finger piers (short and somewhat awkard for longer boat but very doable) and all was well maintained. Dock master and assistant we both helpful and professional.

Enjoyed short walk to E. Queen Street with restaurants. Lots to see and do.

Only "distractor" was noice from the parking garage with cars entering and leaving but that died down at a reasonable hour.

Nice stop and will return.

Other LandTrips From Hampton Public Piers-NOTE ADDENDUM AT END, 2013-08-04
Captain: , annapolis (391)

Revise ratings down to 3 star because of of poor condition of wooden docks especially those adjacent to Air and Space Museum. Deck boards curled and standing proud of adjacent boards making walking on dock hazardous especially after dark. Free WiFi (unsecure)only has reliable signal at dockmaster office or immediate area; not at docks adjcent to Air and Space Museum. Compensations are helpful dockhands, location near 2 museums, 1.6 mile walk to Food Lion, 3/4 mile walk to library with large selection of books for sale. If walking to Food Lion or library stroll down Victoria Street with lovely old homes and plantings. There is also an art gallery adjacent to the library. Can walk over footbridge to campus of Hampton University (formerly Hampton Institute.) Wonderful art museum ( phone for open hours)and interesting campus. Walk into the new cafeteria building; a striking building adjacent to Hampton River with large glass overlook of river. Public bus terminal about 20 minutes walk away from Public Piers. at which you can get detailed instructions for public transportation to downtown Norfolk, shopping mall, Chrysler Art Museum (now closed for repairs.) Also Enterprise car rental within 1 block of piers.ADDENDUM 8-4-13. DOCKMASTER ADVISES THAT HE HAS REPAIRED LOOSE BOARDS AND HE HAS ISSUED REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL FOR REPLACEMENT OF DOCK BOARDS ENTIRELY.

Not as great as expected, 2013-07-26
Captain: , San Francisco, CA (312)

We expected much more of this facility, based on the reviews and rating. The people are nice and helpful. The location is great. We rented a car from the onsite Enterprise Car Rental and visited Williamsburg and the Mariners' Museum. The docks are in good shape, although tricky for someone with short legs. Even though they are floating the fingers are short and very low. The biggest disappointment was the shower facility. The cleaning crew is not doing their job! I did not want to walk in the shower even with my flip flops on. There was a piece of trash on the floor for 6 days even though a sign says they sanitize the place daily. If the city will get after their cleaning crew this place will again deserve a 5 rating for price and location!

Fun Place to stop, 2013-07-25
Captain: , Abilene, TX (210)

Stayed on a Saturday night and really enjoyed the street dance. Facilities are adequate but the staff was very attentive. Didn't use anything but electric and water which was fine. Would come back anytime but the weekend town event w/ streets blocked off was a blast

Think Mini-Annapolis (without a naval academy), 2013-07-02
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

We really enjoyed our stay here. Spent first night at main wall, second at large slip with larger ship coming in. Lots of room for maneuvering. The town is pleasant.
Huge props to Jake. What a great kid that is really into doing a great job! Very energetic and helpul. The only, and I mean only downside is that the wifi is spotty. Sometimes works GREAT, other times not so much. Great place to set up for going up the bay.
Very nice stay. Will be back.

Very nice folks, 2013-06-28
Captain: , Bowleys Quarters, MD (160)

Stayed here for two nights recently. Great location and very nice folks to deal with. Within easy walking distance to the VA Air and Space Museum and downtown pubs, restaurants and the notable L. Cooper chandlery. The only issue was that we had to pumpout at Blue Water Marina, located just down the creek, as there was a 40ft catamaran occupying the pump out area which would be there for ten days. No need for grocery shopping so I cannot rate that aspect.

Very nice people!, 2013-05-19
Captain: , redondo Beach, CA (272)

Had a lovely stay after anchoring and dealing with a wicked tidal swing that left our stern on the rocks. The marina was awesome.

Has it all, 2013-05-12
Captain: , Cape Coral FL (4188)

Now this place gets 5 stars, even though the notable deficiency is no grocery store nearby. However, lots of other good stuff here. Next to VA Air and Space Museum, restaurants nearby, place to walk the dog on grass, good staff, good transient rate, strong WiFi signal and good Verizon 4G signal. Deep water at the docks.

All Around Good Place, 2013-04-30
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4307)

Nice new docks, helpful dockhands, very protected from winds, many services available on site or nearby makes the Hampton Public Docks a good stop. We chose to visit due to the positive reviews and for the fact that we wanted to hide from the windy, choppy conditions. This is a great spot to wait for good weather. It can be reached traveling north through Norfolk by crossing only a small section of exposed waters. Once here, you can enter the Chesapeake on the calm day of your choice. Our only disappointment was that for a historic town, there is not much preserved in the downtown area. It is mostly new construction. But, that might be becauseof our expectations - our homeport is St. Augustine, where much has been preserved.

It's all true..., 2013-04-25
Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

It's still true! This time we made an unexpected stop due to snotty weather on the Chesapeake. Ended up spending 5 days. Jake and Maxwell couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating.

We happen to be there when the monthly SSCA get-together was held at La Bodega and got to attend - fun. The SSCA port captians, Kate and Joan, really go the extra mile to help boaters. Be sure to look them up if you need anything.

Fall 2012
Downtown Hampton Public Piers is one of those stops we kept hearing about but never made it to. So this trip we made it a priority and are glad we did. Everything we heard about it is true. Hampton is a lovely little town with numerous restaurants just a block from the marina. There's the Virginia Air and Space Center right next door with an Imax theater and a carousel in between. When was the last time you walked off your boat to a carousel? There's the History Museum and Art Center. Or you can just walk the charming streets. It's a good place to spend a few days relaxing.

The marina is nice and Jake is terrific - friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. It's a transient only marina so you will meet lots of kindred souls here.

We had a great meal at the Conch n Bucket. Do not miss an ice cream at the Old Hampton Ice Cream Parlor. The cappuccino flavor is wonderful. They even have frozen "pups" so Dyna and Dylan got a treat also. One night SSCA hosted a wine tasting with La Bodega, a wine, beer, cheese, and gourmet shop. Dozens of boaters attended. The whole crew enjoyed themselves and we will most definitely be back.

What a Find!, 2012-11-14
Captain: , Pilots Point (466)

Stopped here in Oct 2011 on a boat delivery from Balt to Ft. Lauderdale, waiting for weather window to pass Hatteras safely. Costs for 3 days docking were so much less than my Northeast- expectations that I thought I was being toyed with. Plus docking came with free health club, bicycles, even car-loaner. Thought I died and was in marina heaven.

Took the short walk to the local Air and Space Museum and was blown away. Every small town should have one! Pleasant bar at the Crowne Plaza filled with nautical photography. Really can't say enough about this place. Stop for a visit.

Excellent stop!, 2012-11-07
Captain: , Wiscasset ME (1435)

Hampton Public Piers is a class act at a great price. Excellent dock hands. Pay two nights get the third free. Very sheltered. Laundry and showers. You can even leave your old oil by the recycle bins. Finger piers are short so back in or be prepared to jump off your bow. There is a Food Lion grocery store about a mile and a half or Super Walmart about three miles away. Super Walmart is about a $9.00 cab ride one way. Propane refill at the U Haul right by Walmart. Walgreens, Rite Aid, 7-11 just up the road, 10 minute walk. Very nice place here, glad we stopped and we will be back!

huricaine wait out, 2012-11-05
Captain: , Lewis Creek, Md (1304)

Great stay waiting out Sandy. We were at the wall. they lets us string lines accross the fairway. They also have an arrangement to be able to rent a car for 1 or 3 hours

What a find!, 2012-10-28
Captain: , Bristol, RI (350)

I was in desperate need of a fitness center! We called DHPP and Jake took our reservation! It was apparent that he was a one man show and does it well! In addition to Jake being so helpful so was everyone in town. Friends we had met were here and without hesitation he put us in the neighboring slip. Hampton people make everyone feel like they are old friends. Community spirit is alive and vibrant here ! The Crown Plaza opened its doors to marina guests who could use hotel facilities. The historical sites in Hampton were outstanding, especially the space and historical museums. The St. George brewery tour was excellent! Our only regret was that we could not stay longer! Here we were introduced to SSCA at a cocktail party. Again, everyone was so helpful with information.

Hampton is a friendly town to visit., 2012-10-17
Captain: , Roseville, MN (372)

Three nights for $65 due to US Boat membership and coupon from the boat show. Jake is very helpful on so many levels. Solid floating docks. Other sailors very friendly. Had a perm and haircut at Barry's on Wine Street. Vickie Barger did a great job of asking questions, listening carefully and then doing a superb job. Tap Room is a great place of draft beers. The only negative is the generator over at the university across the river which runs for hours. Luckily it was cool so could keep the wlndows and doors shut.

Kate (Lawrence) is now working at the Miss Hampton Tours inside the maritime center. She is also a Seven Seas Cruising Host. You can reach her at And she is still as warm and friendly and helpful in her new position.

Terrific Choice, 2012-10-14
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (907)

Based on two nights here mid-October, I agree with the general accolades in previous reviews. Just a note: the free shuttle bus is available on Fridays and Saturdays, from noon to midnight, this season from April 22 to October 15. May be different or gone next year. Yellow Cab to the local giant Walmart or the Coliseum Central (large shopping mall) runs $9 to $13.
Brent's, restaurant a few blocks from the docks, is a great choice for breakfast.

Great Service, 2012-10-13
Captain: , Rock Hall, Md (230)

Jake, the dock master was great; a one man show. Extremely helpful and very professional. Cost very inexpensive, including one night free with Boat show coupon! Marina is in walking distance from excellent restaurants and the Air & Space museum. Food shopping was not in walking distance. They do have bikes to lend out. Laundry on premise. The only thing that kept me from giving it a five, was the cleanliness of the shower area.

Close to everything, 2012-10-06
Captain: , Kent Narrows, MD (200)

This facility is close to restaurants, museums, not so much for shopping, Food Lion is about two miles away, but cabs are available and inexpensive. The floating docks are in great shape and the heads/showers are very good and clean. We stayed two nights and walked the town, did the museums, etc. and would come back again. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Extra bonus, 2012-10-03
Captain: , Jacksonville Fl (1550)

We planned to stay at least a week. Were told of their prefered member program. Join for 35 bucks, dockage fee is then 75 cents/ft and the 5th night is free, What a deal, we stayed 9 days. Of note also, they have a bicycle lending option and a free bus to the shopping ctr on Fri and Sat. Great place, guys very helpful.

Nicest marina around., 2012-09-19
Captain: , N Fort Myers, Florida (516)

This is a great marina. It has great showers, electric, water, good fixed docks, and is located downtown with lots of shopping, restaurants, etc. The dockmaster, Kate, does everything in her power to accomodate you. This is a definite must stop if you are in the area.
Update: Kate is gone, and the great service with her. On a Sunday, there was no one in the office, no way to get to the dock carts, meaning many trips from the car to the boat with provisions. They will miss Kate more than they know.
Another update: We went back there this fall, and while the new staff doesn't have the boating knowledge Kate and Woody had, they did their best to take care of us. They are certainly tryiing to maintain the best traditions of the marina.

September 2012, 2012-09-19
Captain: , Stafford, VA (148)

Asst Dock Master just turned 22! Very knowledgeable and helpful. Was standing on dock waiting for us and help us tie up. Offered his assistance with anything else we might need. Close to downtown Hampton, within walking distance to several eatiers and museums. Only downfall for some could be no fuel at this location.

Service above and beyond, 2012-09-18
Captain: , Apollo Beach, FL (30)

Had an engine issue. Chase, the dockmaster, went out of his way to help us get a mech. Superior cust. svc, Fair pricing, great nearby restaurants, and extremely clean faciity

Outstanding dockmaster service., 2012-09-16
Captain: , Yamba Australia (262)

We are an Australian cruising boat, and are currently travelling the East Coast of USA, awaiting the storm season to close so we can travel south, then through the Panama to Australia.
Our experience in Hampton has been outstanding. The Dockmasters at Hampton are the most most helpful, friendly and curtious we have met. They have pushbikes to use, a laundry and very clean restrooms.
We have been able to have items shipped here, all services are convienant. It is a very easy place to reprovision out boat.
The anchourage opposite the docks is also easily accessable to the docks.

Chase the Dockmaster needs a Raise, 2012-09-15
Captain: , Great Wicomco (10)

Chase is a great dockmaster and very kind, he also has alot of information, if he doesn't know will find out. He help us alot, and he was always kind. He was very on the spot and was always around and walking the docks to see if anyone needed anything. We also saw first handed how some boater had a bad day at sea and tried to take it out on him. He was very kind, ( I would not have been so kind). He does his job very well, probably needs a raise, he worked long hours. So please keep him and reward him for his services.

A great bargain, 2012-09-12
Captain: , Red Lion, DE (712)

2012-09-12 You really can't beat this marina for low price and conveience. As most of the previous reviews have expressed, it is a really good deal. Glad that the marina we usually stay at was full and therefor we found this one. We had almost zero wakes while here. There is some traffic noise from the bridge but not much after midnight (weeknights). We highly recommend this marina.

Hampton Public Marina, 2012-08-16
Captain: , Stingray Harbour (386)

Nice marina, floating docks. Jake is quite helpful, met us at the slip and helped tie up. Clean restrooms, good wifi, walking distance to several good Restaurants, shops, galleries and the air and space museum.

In the heart of beautiful downtown. Nice piers, and nice folks.

Great stop, 2012-06-27
Captain: , Lake Ariel, PA (184)

Spent six nights waiting out the weather. We couldn't have asked for a better dock master or dockage. Kate hosted a wine get together for the boaters and a good time was had by all. Kate and Woody couldn't have been more welcoming or informative. At $1.25 ft (boat us 3rd night free) the best stop we've had. Very convenient to Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. Walk to Air Museum, good restaurants (sushi or SF Chicken) and great coffee shop. They will see us again.
UPDATE: Sadly, Kate and Woody are no longer at Hampton Piers. They will be missed, but hopefully the new staff will provide the great experience they did.

Friendly Staff, great location, 2012-06-07
Captain: , Middle River, MD (354)

This was my first time in Hampton. I anchored off the Piers and dinghied in to check things out. The staff was very helpful. They don't have many slips. I believe they had 6 that were located in the marina next door (to the SW). They have several between the main office and the bridge but these seemed better suited to power vessels (shorter in length). Used their dinghy dock during and after hours. Just don't park your dinghy where the tour boat comes in just to the north of the office.

Super spot, 2012-05-30
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (121)

We came in during high wnds and heavy current, and the dock staff made it possbile. Very accommodating! Nice town to explore, and a great location to do it from!

Hampton Public Piers, 2012-05-16
Captain: , Baltimore, Maryland (330)

Greatplace to see Hampton. Free Bus. Free Bikes. Just need to make more time to sightsee when I am there. The only thing tricky to this marina is the way you tie up to the shore piers. Great staff, too.

Best Choice in Hampton, 2012-05-14
Captain: , Beverly, MA (30)

A short hike up the river, but well worthwhile. Couldn't ask for friendlier, more professional service from Kate Lawrence and staff. Conveniently located, within (free!) bicycle distance from restaurants and stores. Loved the "help yourself" herb garden. Well-maintained marina. Top notch medical facility nearby at CarePlex.

Kate is not here anymore, 2012-05-10
Captain: , Cincinnati (1810)

Still a great marina but the new staff has a lot to learn. They are very nice but inexperienced and need to learn about marina service such as assist in tie up and how to use marina facilities. New staff is friendly and eager and I am sure they will be able to maintain Marina reputation. We have been here for 12 days for a quick trip home and weather. Enterprise Car Rental is on the property as is a good coffee shop. There are two decent restuarants in the hotel and hotel staff is very friendly also. Kate will be missed but it appears that after training woo's, they will be fine.

Great stop but Kate is gone, 2012-05-07
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (386)

We stopped based on multiple recommendations and were probably one of the last transcient boats that dockmaster Kate brought in before she resigned. Nice facility, clean bathrooms, 1 washer/dryer. Close to restaurants, coffee shop, Walgreens. We had a discount coupon for 1 free nite with 2 nite stay. I hope the city finds a dockmaster who loved the place as much as Kate did.

New dockmaster, 2012-05-04
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (134)

We stopped in here based on all the great reviews, only to find the the former dockmaster, Kate has just resigned, along with assistant dockmaster, Woody.

The temporary staff were very friendly and the town is a great stop.

We had a delicious dinner at Brent's.

The reason for the four stars, is the layout of the docks leave a lot to be desired, very hard to tie up to.

Would definitely come back.

Very Pleasant Surprise, 2012-05-04
Captain: , Harrisburg, PA (71)

Had a freebie for the Public Piers so we gave it a try. We will be back as it is a great staging point for a trip up the Chesapeake (or down from, for that matter). The tempoary staff was just great and the town is very nice with plenty to see and do. Tied up in the cove next to the merry-go-round which was easy and very pleasant.

Great Stop, 2012-04-23
Captain: , New York (483)

Great place to stop on your way north or south. The floating finger slips are short but that seems like the only problem. Kate, the dockmaster does a great job helping us in. Restaurants, and a great museum, are within walking distance. They also sponsored a great boaters wine social at La Bodega, nice!

Short finger piers, 2012-04-05
Captain: , Rock Hall MD (91)

Kate, the dock master deserves five stars, the designers of the docks deserve no stars, the location and facilities are great. The docks have floating finger piers that are maybe ten feet long which make it impossible to tie the boat down properly. When bow in Kate provides steps to able to get on and of your boat.

Stellar Customer Service & Facilities, 2012-04-04
Captain: , Washington DC (10)

We spent lovely 6 days at the Hampton Public Piers aboard our 40' yacht with our children aged 4, 6, and 8. This pier should be noted for the following services:

- Child friendly (plenty of museums within walking distance & complimentary bicycles)
- Very clean facilities (bathroom, showers, laudry, etc. all appear nearly new and well maintained)
- Free use of life jackets for all ages while staying at the pier which is great for guests
- 24 hour service
- Excellent customer service and staff
- Reasonable rates...why bother anchoring!

Cheers, Forrest

great place.. new favorite, 2011-12-15
Captain: , Port Charlotte, FL (10)

I am a life long pro sailor and have "been around" as they say. I found Hampton Public piers sailing into Hampton Rhodes without power due to a faulty oil pressure switch. A new thing for the parts bag. Locals suggested it and I am very appreciative. Knowledge and friendly staff, close to waterfront restuarants, great attitudes and a fun stop. Highly recommended

Good marina before hitting the Atlantic heading South, 2011-12-07
Captain: , Portsmouth, UK (70)

I agree, Kate is a brilliant Harbourmaster, 2 nights for the price of 3. Everyone was very helpful. Also have bikes to lend out. Try the Thai restaurant in town. Very good stop over.

And now they have Laundry!, 2011-12-05
Captain: , Dorset, VT (357)

Well, this is one of our favorite spots. Kate the harbormaster is incredibly helpful and the town is very nice. And now they have brand new Commercial Laundry machines. $2 each for washer and dryer. We will stop every time we go through the area.

"KISS ME KATE", 2011-11-28
Captain: , Nyack, NY (646)

Our third visit to the Hampton Public Piers could not have been better. As last year, we were preparing for our passage to the Bahamas from Hampton with the Caribbean 1500. Kate Lawrence, Dockmaster was there to greet usand tie is up as she did last year when she took over the operation of this municipal facility. We had been slow making reservations, but Kate found a slot for us on Bentaņa. When frost covered the first class floating concrete docks, she offered us a portable heater. With her great crew, they have added laundry facilities, waste oil collection and cruisers get togethers at local venues. This in addition to loaner bikes, a basket of apples on the counter, first class rest rooms and showers, ice, water, electric hook-ups. All at reasonable rates, with free days given at the Boat Show, and free days earned during your stay, good on a return visit
If this marina was not reason enough to visit Hampton Virginia, the area is full of history, from the first settlers encounters with the native-americans, through the encounters with Blackbeard, The Monitor and Merrimac, The Hampton Institute and up through the the current day and into the future with NASA's Virginia Air and Space Museum.
It would be hard to miss with a visit to the Downtown Hampton Public Piers. The city leaders and the cruising community are both winners with this facility. Kiss me Kate!!

Great marina facility in a seaminded town, 2011-11-16
Captain: , Gulf Shores Alabama (748)

Very nice marina. We came here on recommendations we read on Active Captain and we were not disappointed. Stayed 3 nights (buy 2, get 1 free) and we enjoyed the history, restaurants and friendly people. My son had to fly back to Denver from the Newport News Airport, and the captain of one of the charter boats offered to drive him there on his way home that afternoon. Worked out perfect and showed us how friendly the locals are. Great town with lots of history. Very nice dock facilities with concrete floating docks. The marina furnished a dock ladder to make it easier to board the boat from the low floating docks.

Great location and Great staff, 2011-11-04

Good floating and face dock. Very nice, really helpful staff. Easy walk to downtown Hampton and the beauitful Hampton University Campus with it's execellent free museum.

Lots of near-by restaurants and gift shops but for anything else you'll need a lift. Air and Space museum and IMAX just next door to the docks local history just a short walk.

They have a pay for two nights and get the third night free deal.

Well protected, easy access to Enterprise Rental Car, excellent dining in walking distance. They have free bikes you can use to get to the grocery store.

They also have a special discount for Seven Seas Cruising Association members that is better than the BoatUS discount. Don't forget to fly your burgee!

And they just added a washing machine and dryer ($2 each per load) to their facility making it even better.

This marina is now on our must-do list. Other reviews have said it all. Kate, the dock master, is very helpful and accommodating. The only (slight) negative is the short finger piers make docking a 55' boat a bit tricky. Good restaurants in the area. Nice shops. Very convenient to rent a car for a few hours to do provisioning at Walmart and many other big box stores on Mercury Blvd.

Docked here during hurricane Irene. Kate and staff are extremely accommodating. Not enough superlatives for them. Floating dock well protected on N and W by parking garage, also by nearby bridge. As noted by previous raters, excellent restaurants nearby. Large shopping center (Peninsula) accessible by bus, free on weekends.

Very friendly Marina, 2011-08-01

We stayed here only one night. The marina was easy to find, easy to dock. Nice floating piers. The restrooms were clean and secure. Our only problem was not with the marina but with our timing. We were in Hampton on a Monday and all the shops were closed. The place was a ghost town.

Stayed here again this time for four nights. Kate - the Harbor Master is most helpful as is Steve. Restrooms are clean and there is access to the Crowe Plaza pool. Close to shops, restaurants and the Virginia Air & Space Museum. We will be back!

It was a 93 Deg day when we stopped and the IMAX theater next door was showing The Pirates of the Carribbean movie so we enjoyed that and then a dinner about 1 block away downtown. The staff and everyone on the dock was friendly and helpful. Will stay here again! Just found the FREE BID Bus that takes you to the Peninsula Town Center shopping area with Target, Macys, Penneys, Barnes & Noble, and many other stores and resturants. It also stops at other hotels and the convention center. Also Java Junkies just steps from the docks with breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and great coffee! This is a 6 star stop.

It is well woth the detour and Kate Lawrence and her super staff will do their utmost to please everyone. The downtown is realy nice and surprisingly a quiet marina. The facilities are well kept and clean. A very nice place to spend the weekend to stay away from the busy boating trafic. There is public transportion to get access to grorceries store and also a super Walmart. There are many restaurants within walking distance. Call or e-mail Kate ahead to reserve.

What a great friendly dock to stay at! Spent the long weekend here with some folks from my marina. We had a great time; dock master is friendly and excellent! They make you feel very welcome. Docks are clean, bathrooms are clean and they give you a great information packet on arrival. Supplies are not within walking distance; thought a 7/11 is about 6 blocks away for simple things. Air museum is great kids had a blast and downtown Hampton has bands and street fairs all summer long on Sat. evenings. I would definitely stay again.

We have stayed here both on our way up and down the Atlantic Coast. The price is very reasonable, and the dockmaster is the best! There is grocery and laundry close to the marina, but we have found that this a good place to rent a car and get to West Marine, BJ's, Costco, etc. as well as visit the the Marineršs Museum at Newport News. Biking to Fort Monroe is also a worthwhile activity.

Can't say enough about the helpful and friendly staff. Kate, Steve, Woody and Mike were very helpful. Stayed here for six nights and really enjoyed the visit. Had some canvas work done at nearby North Sails (two day turnaround). Queen street restaurants were nearby and very good. Hampton has a "Block Party" every Saturday night during the season with great bands and lots of friendly folks. Would stay here anytime I'm in the area.

We stayed on the face dock (fixed pier) next to the party fishing boat in front of the office. Other then the early morning noise from the fishing boat, it was quiet and convienent to the bathroom and showers. Kate (dockmaster) was excellent as always. Used the free bikes to ride to Fort Monroe. Rented a car at Enterprise right at the marina for two days to go to Langley air show and Jamestown. Cheapest car rental I've ever seen. Stay two nights and the third is free.

Great staff! Clean facility. Good restaurants in walking distance. Free bicycles, but you have to get a ride or rent a car to get to a good grocery store or West Marine Grocery stores in walking distance are more limited.

Short finger piers. Nice and clean floating docks. For wide or larger vessels must go on face dock which is a fixed dock. Good places to walk dogs. Convenient to bus, food, coffee and Internet. Very helpful staff. We stayed two nights and received third free. Can take tender to Food Lion. Bus free to West Marine on Friday and Saturday, within walking to hardware store and pharmacy and 7 Eleven.

Stayed over night and met some friends for dinner at Marker 21 just a couple of blocks inland. Just wish I had had an opportunity to visit this place when the Cousteau Society was based here! Just remember, ya gotta back into these slips unless you can disembark from the bow!

Everything good mentioned by the other raters is certainly true. This is a great spot to stop, run by great folks. Also, make a point to check out the deals that they have for frequent visitors. We have joined their "Preferred Guest" club with reduced rates and free nights for the frequent stayer. It has already paid for itself.

This place is run by some great folks. Woody, the dockmaster, a retired Senior Chief Petty Officer, even lent us his car so that my wife could go to the doctor to get some ear meds. And Kate is full of very helpful advice and could not be more attentive. Very nice folks.

Great place, super helpfull and friendly staff. Nice clean restrooms and showers, readily accessable even for those on the hook. No charge for tieing up dingy. Small Grocery store west 2 blocks to Lincoln St and then south 3 blocks in small plaza just past St Johns Cemetary. Also great cajun restaurant there. Tap Room three blocks from marina another great place for drinks and eats.

We throughly enjoyed the hospitality and great service for the 4 days we stayed from Dock Master Gregory Harrison and his staff. Facilities very comfortable and clean. Every thing close by. Air & Space Mueeum and History Museum right close. Sorry we missed the Bay Days Festival held annually and this years 400th Anniversay of Hampton, VA. This is a stop we will definitely come back to. Dockage $1.25 Ft and $6.00 for 50 Amp. Free Bikes Stay two days and get 3rd day Free. Cannot beat that!

Ducked in here waiting for the seas to calm on the Bay before heading north. Nice docks. Floating. Good walking for dogs and a park nearby. Very pleasant dockmaster. Didn't eat out but there are some restaurants in the vicinity. Didn't see a grocery store.
