Reviews for Dolphin Marina and Restaurant
Great spot, 2016-09-19
Captain: , Freeport Maine (10)

My first trip tot he Dolphin was fantastic. The marina staff did everything they could to make it nice. The coffee and muffin delivery on the rainy morning was especially great.

As advertised, 2016-09-15
Captain: , NEWTON (10)

I echo all the positive comments made. Highlight was watching the sunset from the restaurant. Also, enjoyed the stroll down the road to stretch our legs and check out the views. Chris made it easy.

Wonderful Experience, 2016-09-11
Captain: , Northport, NY (20)

We visited this Marina in July 2016. We were 3 boats and they put us together on a floating dock making it easy to socialize. The dockhands were so professional. We took advantage of the complimentary bikes and so enjoyed riding all around the point - just lovely! We wish we had more time to also enjoy the complimantary kayaks - next time. The meal that evening in the Dolphin Marina Restaurant was one of the best we had in Maine. As if this wasn't enough, the next morning the launch came and delivered fresh, homemade blueberry muffins and hot coffee. We will definitely return on our next trip to Maine!!

From the attentive dock staff to the beautiful restaurant, we will continue to go to the Dolphin Marine for years to come. At the Dolphin you get more than what you pay for. Thanks again.

Dolphin stays are always exceptional. Even when busy, the dock and restaurant staffs are very attentive. Super food and the complementary morning muffins are the best.

Excellent stay at Dolphin Marina , 2016-09-03
Captain: , Bristol Harbor (170)

We enjoyed two excellent nights with Dolphin Marina. Coffee and muffins were brought out to our boat each morning. A very nice way to start the day.

The facilities are great, the food and bar very good, and the harbor is very calm and scenic.

Highly recommended place to pull in.

Great service from Chris and staff.Good fuel prices. Muffins and coffee delivered in the morning even on the moorings. Go to the restaurant it is excellent. Heads and showers are a shock. One shower no curtain and it located in the very small laundry room. !!! Also YOU WILL ROCK on the moorings especially in the morning.

Captain: , Eliot, ME (115)

Easy access. Good moorings. A little busy in the evening because of the restaurant. AND, the restaurant is really good. Good selection of food and drinks.
Bikes and courtesy car available.
They bring out blueberry muffins and coffee in the morning to the boats on dock and moorings.
Friendly family owned marina.

Amazing place to stay!, 2016-08-30
Captain: , Boston (15)

We stayed on a mooring at Dolphin for one night in August. It was a wonderful experience in an amazing location and we will definitely be back next year. The staff were friendly and helpful, the mooring solid, the laundry free (!), and the views classic. Wish we'd had time to borrow the marina's kayaks and explore the surrounding area. The mooring field was quite well protected from the fairly large swell just on the other side of the islands; once the boat traffic from people having dinner at the restaurant died down around 8 pm, it was quiet and comfortable.

All the positive reviews are TRUE, 2016-08-29
Captain: , Panama City, FL (574)

It is hard to exaggerate about the welcome received here. They are indeed here to serve and do an excellent job. The blueberry muffins and coffee are just icing on the cake of wonderful. Don't miss a dink ride to Eagle Island.

Must Stop if in area!, 2016-08-24
Captain: , Northort, NY (20)

Very courteous and professional from the first phone call to reserve moorings. Followed up with an email. We were a group of 3 boats so they put us on a float so we could be together. When we arrived, they immediately came out and helped us get set up. They offer free bikes and kayaks for use. Nice area to bike and explore. Had dinner at the restaurant and it was excellent. The best part is the free coffee and delicious blueberry muffin delivered to boat in morning. Will definiltey return!!

Had a nice, quiet, relaxing stay., 2016-08-22
Captain: , South Portland Maine (10)

Very happy with our stay at Dolphin Marina. We arrived earlier than expected but were accommodated immediately even though it was a busy lunch hour. Dock staff were outstanding and attentive. Docks were in excellent shape with the 30 amp service we require.
We had lunch and dinner at the restaurant and as with the dock staff, service and food were both excellent. Outstanding views from the restaurant.
We will be back for sure.

Another enjoyable stay, 2016-08-21

Mmmm Good!, 2016-08-21
Captain: , Kennebunk (10)

This is a beautiful place to moor. Its easy to find, they offer a launch service and bring around coffee and blueberry muffins in the morning. Can it get better than this? Yes, they run a great restaurant just up the hill. But beware, the marina was full the night we were there - make a reservation!

You've gotta visit this amazing marina!!!, 2016-08-19
Captain: , Annapolis (10)

Incredible commitment to the customer by this third generation, 40 plus year family run operation! We just concluded our first visit to this well run marina/restaurant and will definitely be back. Access to the harbor and marina is very straight forward. The entrance is deep, and the current/tide was not an issue. There was a 20-25k wind on our port beam as we entered the harbor, however, it disappeared once we got near the marina. Our first radio call was answered by the dock staff and we were led to our mooring by their launch. They even handed us the mooring line. Completely unnecessary, with there being zero wind or current, but one of the many little things this family does so well. Depth at the mooring was 15 feet (low tide) and the moorings were spaced adequately for our 55' heavy trawler.

With a predicted SW blow approaching, I got a little worried that we might stretch our mooring and swing close to a nearby sailboat. Apparently a dock hand noticed me surveying the situation and then shortening our mooring line. He came to the boat and volunteered to have us move to the fuel dock during the blow. This was completely unsolicited and we gladly accepted. We also watched the launch check each boat in the mooring field to be sure it was secured safely for the storm. The storm came from the marina's only 'exposed' side, yet it's 35k gusts produced only a slight chop in the harbor. At the fuel dock, we had no less than 10' at low tide, good power and nearby water.

The on-site restaurant is second to none, not just for a marina setting, but for a restaurant anywhere! The views are amazing and the food is fantastic. Top this off with the launch bringing fresh made blueberry muffins and coffee to each boat in the marina/mooring field every morning (at no charge); and kayaks and bikes for Marina use, and you have one of the best run marina / restaurant experiences we have had.

We're already making plans for a return visit this season. Thanks Mimi, Chris, Mya, Billy and your amazing team for a wonderful stay. See you again soon.

A truly exceptional experience, 2016-08-19
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (20)

In our 10 yrs of trawler cruising, we have rarely encountered as outstanding a
combination of customer service and gracious hospitality as we found at the
Dolphin Marina. The owner and Marina manager, Chris Saxton, was omnipresent, e-mailing us approach and docking instructions, greeting us at
the dock upon arrival, outlining a long list of activity opportunities using the
Marina's free bicycles and kayaks, arranging our dinner reservations at the
Marina's superb restaurant, and, unbbbbelievably, arriving at the dock with
hot coffee and fresh blueberry muffins to go just before we departed at 0545
the next morning! All this at a fraction of the cost of dockage at any of the other marinas we visited during our 6 week summer cruise to Maine. DO NOT
MISS THIS PLACE if you are in the Portland area.

Our stay with you was wonderful. The dock hands were so accommodating and personable. We loved the muffins and coffee delivered by Caroline. What a treat. We had an extra night there due to bad weather and enjoyed dinner each night at the restaurant. Loved it all. Thanks for such a pleasant stay.

Exceptional Customer Service, 2016-08-12
Captain: , Manchester NH. (245)

On Saturday 08/06/16 I called the marina just before their closing time to see if they had room on the front dock due to the needs of an elderly passenger. Chase asked that I give them a few minutes while they moved a few boats to make room for us. Staying late Chase and Owen helped us dock and then offered to bring transportation to the head of the gangway so we could get up to the restaurant. Due to the low tide and steepness of the gangway I told the guys that we would order our meals to go. Being a busy Saturday night I was very impressed when the hostess offered to bring our meals to the boat when they where ready. Sunday morning Chase was back on duty and bringing the coffee and Blueberry Muffins that the marina is famous for. The owner Chris stopped by to make sure our stay was OK. Chris and his family and the marina staff continues to show why this marina is one of the best on the Maine coast.

Captain: , Newburyport (10)

What an unexpected delight. I was looking for an alternative to Portland north of Cape Ann, and this had everything I wanted - knowledgable and friendly dock help (especially Greg), lots of activity to watch on the outside dock from the boaters stopping for dinner at the restaurant, which is wonderful. The Dolphin Restaurant had some of the best food I had on a 10 day cruise to Southwest Harbor. I recommend their pan seared scallops; best I've had! Another cool thing to do there is to walk down the huge lawn in front of the restaurant to view beautiful sunsets over Casco Bay.

Ben & Caroline were so knowledgeabe and friendly, you couldn't ask for better dock hands. Restaurant was awesome from food to service. Well kept, well run marina.

Precision Execution and Disney World Hospitality, 2016-08-09
Captain: , Daniel Island, SC (310)

Equal parts of disciplined execution and Disney World hospitality. A rermarkably well run marina and restaurant. Constantly tweaking to make both even better. A template-like culture extending from ownership to employee. So very well done and most deserving of every 5 star review.
Without peer.

Great stopping point between downeast Maine and Buzzards Bay, 2016-07-31
Captain: , Fairhaven,Ma. (10)

Our second visit in two years. Easy to get to. Stayed on dock last year for mooring price because mooring not available and on float this year. Staff very helpful and friendly. Excellent meals at Dolphin restaurant. Will see them again next year.

Glad we altered our route, 2016-07-31
Captain: , Hingham, MA (10)

The onset of foul weather forced us to ater our plans and Chris Saxton & the folks at Dolphin made room for us at their dock. The Dolphin exceeded our expectations on every level. Dockside service was great including tie-up, fueling and every morning they delivered fresh baked blueberry muffins and coffee. The entire staff was professional and super friendly. The Dolphin restaurant was Painkiller this side of the BVIs and we debated which was better, the fish or lobster stew! Lunch at Erica's Lobster is everything you'd want in a rustic seaside lobster shack. Our stopover at the Dolphin Marina turned out to be an enexpected treat. You won't find a marina with better service. When getting ready to leave, I encountered a 'singing prop' and Billy Saxton immediately volunteered to 'take a look over the side' to see where the noise was coming from. The Dolphin' is definately going to be a stop on our next trip to Maine.

Absolutely best customer service anywhere in 12 years of cruising!!

a Diamond in the Rough, 2016-07-23
Captain: , Stuart, Florida (539)

Dolphin Marina was found by word of mouth from other cruisers. Met by Chris (owner) and two of his great dock attendants, Walt and Chelsea. Excellent service from bringing you the registration form to the boat, to paying your slip fee with your dinner tab. Dinner there was great witnessed by the large amount of local folks who come there. And yes, try the Fish Chowder. A cup won't be enough but then again you have a meal to get through.
Blueberry muffins and coffee are brought to your boat in the AM. Loads of berries in those muffins. Don't leave without them.
All in all, a super stop. One very small nit and that was water pressure/volume at the end of the dock was slow but got the job done. Didn't use the shower facilities.
Would I go back? In a heartbeat. Thanks Chris and staff.
Update 7-22-16
It has been two years since I was here and Chris recalled the last time we came through. Since I was going to be at the end slip, bow in (and Krogen's don't back to port) and single handled, Chris had a couple of his folks led by Chase to jump on and help getting to the dock in the 20k beam wind. Made it look like a piece of cake.
Still an unbeatable deal for dockage. The restaurant just won a major award and yes Mom is still welcoming guests in the restaurant.
Chris and family get it. Even the WIFI worked. One small nit is a repeat. Water at that end of the dock is pretty marginal if you needed to fill your tanks. Minor nit however as I'll be back in a month.

The Full Experience, 2016-07-22
Captain: , Greenland (10)

We spent 2 nights at the Dolphn marina and we were very pleased with the helpfulness and professional staff on the docks and in the restaurant. The food is superb! Best Bloody Mary too at Sunday brunch! Batbrooms and Showers are very clean and new. The grounds are clean and have nice flower displays. The staff brought us coffee and muffins every morning at 8:0-0 AM such great service!!! Our only iussues were the ice machine was empty when we arrived and had to get ice from the restaurant kitchen for $2.00 a lg zip lock baggie, and they ran out of fuel on the day we needed to leave so it was a little stressful getting back on the fuel we had. One suggestion woudl be to install a cleaner path (asphalt, or wooded) from the bathroom/showers so that when your feet are wet from the nice clean shower, dirt won't stick to your feet and kick up on your legs.;)

its all true, 2016-07-21

Great anchorage. Well protected. Chris and his staff and family reinvented the concept of service and hospitality. Moorings excellent. Restaurant excellent. They added an outdoor lobster shack which captures the spirit and feeling of Maine. They actually send a thank you email after you leave.

Awesome Customer Service!, 2016-07-15
Captain: , Colington Harbour, NC (41)

The incredible customer service began with a thank you email acknowledging our reservation. The day of our arrival we received an email with arrival information. We were secured and welcomed by the most agreeable and helpful dockhands and the owner, Chris. Our meals at the restaurant were fabulous and the Maine blueberry muffins delivered to our boat with coffee each morning will ensure our return!

Treat yourself to a stay at Dolphin Marina

What, no turn down service?, 2016-07-08
Captain: , Wickford, RI (411)

Turn down service is about the only thing NOT offered at Dolphin Marina!
Docks: Excellent floating docks with rub rails, water/electric, and hefty cleats.
No additional charge for use of kayaks, bikes, car, laundry, wifi, electric.
Staff: Hard working dock and restaurant people. Chris, the dockmaster and all around good guy, takes time to make sure you're taken care of and happy.
Scenery that's all Maine. Access to harbor is easy by following charts.
Erica's seafood andTake-Out has wonderful seafood rolls, baskets, and plates to eat at picnic tables harbor side. Dolphin Restaurant is indoor, upscale restaurant that is one of our favorites anywhere. Very popular with locals and boaters. As a Marina guest you can arrange Priority Seating.
And...drum and blueberry muffins delivered to your boat at dock or mooring in the morning!

Be sure to add this to your Maine cruise itinerary, 2016-07-05
Captain: , Boston (610)

The glowing reviews below cover it, so I'll just add a few additional points. When you arrive at your moorring and the launch driver comes right up to the mooring as you approach, it's because they are offering to hand you the line. The Marina now has *complimentary* bikes and kayaks for visiting boaters to borrow. They have high speed internet/wifi throughout the mooring field. If you sit at the bar, be sure to ask Shane the bartender for some directions or how to pronounce Harpswell. He's a school teacher from Ohio originally but does a hillarious downeast/north woods Mainer impersonation. And have him make you a 3-2-1 margarita.

Pleasantly surprised during our last stay, 2016-07-05
Captain: , Freeport (40)

When we first started boating 20+ years ago, this was a mainstay. The restaurant was a quaint little hole in the wall that served chowder and muffins that were to die for. But the anchorage was rolly, and the lobstermen get under way before the crack of dawn. After a while we stopped coming.

Fast forward to this year, after the new restaurant and expanded marina had been in operation for a while. Our regatta finished here, so we reserved one of the floats in the mooring field iwth our friends, who would dock on the other side.

The service we got from the dock crew was nothing short of incredible. From my first call on Ch. 09 to the muffins and coffee delivered in the morning, it was top notch. And no rolling on the harbor float closest to the dock (yeah it was a quiet night).

The restaurant, while not cheap, has good food and there's not a bad seat in the place.

Best Meal of the Week, 2016-02-18
Captain: , Eliot, ME (10)

We cruised the coast of southern Maine for about 10 days last summer (2015); we stayed at many fine places and had lots of good food. Our stay at the Dolphin stands out. Great setting; great facility; great staff; the meal we had in the restaurant was the best of the week.

We will be back in 2016.

A Great Place, 2016-02-06
Captain: , Noank, CT (30)

Friendly, helpful, and professional staff made staying here a pleasure. Manager came over first morning to see how we were doing and if we needed anything. Also told us about area things to see. Facilities were great especially the floating docks and very clean rest rooms and showers. Laundry facility was new and no additional charge. Also liked when they delivered free muffins to the dock side boat on the first morning. Great restaurant on location along with a great lobster shack where we had very good fried oysters. Will definately come back.

Good food, friendly staff, 2015-09-22

We did not dock here, but we anchored nearby and tendered in for dinner. Great selection of local beers on tap, friendly staff, and good food made for an excellent stop.

A great lunch stop!, 2015-09-08
Captain: , Avondale, PA (448)

We stopped for lunch one rainy Sunday late in August. The dockmaster was very helpful in directing us to the pier and handling our lines.

The restaurant is really good. The calamari and lobster stew were outstanding and the service was fast and attentive.

If I have a chance to come back and spend the night, I will. I'm looking forward to more of that stew!

Very happy friendly spot, 2015-09-06
Captain: , Marblehead, MA (50)

We picked The Dolphin as our first stop on a Maine cruise (36' sailboat) coming up from Marblehead. After a very long day on the water it is was a refreshing place to stop. Very friendly staff suggested slip orientation for best view of Potts Harbor and gave us a nice hand with dock lines. The restaurant is great, faciilities are clean and the blueberry muffins and coffee in the morning was a great sendoff on our trip downeast. The slip rate makes this place a bargain in Casco Bay. We will definitely be coming back through.

almost too friendly, 2015-08-31
Captain: , Salem Ma (430)

They were almost too friendly. The mooring itself was "normal" and came with lanch service.

The resturant was good. But if you want lower key there is a lobster type shack on the other side of the parking lot and a place go get get fresh lobster.

The showers and head seemed new and were clean, and there was washer/dryers there (but they are inside the shower room which is kind of werid)

In the morning the launch came around with coffee and blueberry muffin (get the muffins for later).

The fuel dock was easy to get to and they were helpful with the docking.

probably the overall most froendly marina I have ever been to.

9/13 update - today I got a hand written tank you note, when was the last time a company did that? And all I did was stay 1 night on a mooring!

8/25/15 - Stopped by again. Everything was just kind fine, but I can not the feeling that it just didn'tfeel as friendy as last year.

Back again, 2015-08-30
Captain: , Maine (41)

Just dined and stayed for the fourth time this year. Crew and staff are always spot on. We tested the chef this time with a guest who has onion/garlic etc allergies, and is also a challenging person to please when eating out. The guest was extremely pleased with the entree - way to go chef! The Key Lime pie is among the best we've ever had. Should be since it comes via someone from the Keys.

It's the morning coffee and blueberry muffins, 2015-08-29
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (189)

What a great experience. Knock, Knock, "I have coffee and fresh blueberry muffins" And, this is out on the mooring! Lunch at the Dolphin was terrific - Service, tops. Nice walk on shore down a country road. There is one shower on shore. Easy access to Eagle Island via your boat or a launch from the Dolphin Marina.

Dolphin Marina - great stay, 2015-08-24
Captain: , Kittery Point, ME (101)

I recently spent a night on a mooring at Dolphin. The service was great from guiding us in to mooring to offering coffee and pastries the next morning to a follow-up thank you letter a week later (nice touch). We also ate at the restaurant and while it was very busy the service and the food was excellent. A great experience, I will return.

I hate to tell you this..., 2015-08-17
Captain: , Key West, FL (748)

.... Because I know it will make it even harder to get a reservation in this outstanding facility. But I will, because the Saxton family deserves all of the praise that they get here and in TripAdvisor. The food is really outstanding and the service and friendliness of the entire staff is unequalled. The marina could be bigger, and had they predicted their own success I suspect it would have been. But they still handle the transient and dinner boating crowd with courtesy and professionalism. This will be a mandatory destination in our summer trips up from Key West.

Great plaace to stop, 2015-08-14
Captain: , Lewes, DE (424)

We were heading south and planned to stop in Harpswell but really had no idea where to stop. Some friends of ours who live in Harpswell suggested we stay here and they would meet us for drinks. So at the last minute I called te marina and was able to reserve a mooring. The approaches look confusing but really aren't. We got on our mooring and Chelsea the dockmaster came out and made sure we were all set and offered lots of helpful advice. She offered to make dinner reservations for us but we hadn't confirmed times wit our friends. In retrospect we should have made reservations. The restaurant was packed on a Wednesday night. Food was great. Scenery was great. In the morning Chelsea came by with really outstanding blueberry muffins. This is service the way it should be.

Very Hospitable & Great Food!, 2015-08-11
Captain: , Boothbay Harbor (10)

The marina and restaurant staff were all very friendly, efficient, and accommodating. The service and the food were excellent. The morning muffin and coffee service is a nice touch. We will definitely be back! Special thanks to the dockmaster, Chelsea, and our waitress,Taylor. We were part of a large group. Chelsea did a great job getting us all settled into our boat slips and Taylor did a great job serving us in the restaurant.

We stayed overnight Aug 1St, the crew and the facililities wer fantastic. We had dinner at the restaurant, which was a party of 18, and our server, Tayler, was exceptional. We waited for nothing and our meals were fantastic. Definately a do over.

Great Find, 2015-08-03

Our first trip to the marina and restaurant in years - we didn't realize what we were missing! The fish chowder is the best we've had, and both restaurant and marina service were outstanding. Highly recommended.

unbelievably good service, 2015-08-01

we stopped here a few weeks ago after not having visited in several years. what an amazing improvement in the facilities and staff! never have we had such attentive service from all whom we met. and the muffins delivered to the boat in the morning -wow!!

Unsurpassed Service, 2015-07-28
Captain: , Oriental, N.C. (352)

We came here for a good seafood dinner at the restaurant and the blueberry muffins. They were as good as everyone has said. Also picked-up some clam chowder to go from Erica's lobster shack at the other end of the parking lot. Outstanding chowda!
But all that said about the food, we've not encountered such able, friendly and efficent dock personnel as we met at Dolphin Marina.

Wow Service and food, 2015-07-15

My wife Kathy and stayed here on our way to Portland during the week after the 4th and i can honestly say we have NEVER had a more attentive marina experience! They even brought fresh out of the oven muffins and hot coffee to the boat in the morning . This is a MUST stop if you are cruising the Maine coast. Thanks again Todd and Kathy Farrin

Outstanding marina, staff and restuarant, 2015-07-08
Captain: , Constitution Marina, Boston (80)

The harbor is a very nice location and the marina is a gem. When we arrived the staff were very helpful and wanted to ensure that we were settled and had all of the information we needed. Being a little isolated from a town the only choice is to go to the tavern or restaurant of the marina. What a find. ALL of the staff are friendly courtious and helpful and the food was fantastic. In the morning free blueberry muffins and coffee was distributed around the boats at the marina. In addition to the quality, the price is excellent. Its the best rate we have found in our travels.

Everyone on my crew loved this stop. The launch drivers were ultra friendly and helpful. The restaurant impressed everyone with delicious seafood, BBQ, and views to die for. Topping it all off, the blueberry muffins delivered to the boat for breakfast was a great touch!

My crew mate suggested the Dolphin Marina because he knew the restaurant was good from many years of summering on Orr's Island. we weren't disappointed. we also got blueberry muffins and coffee for breakfast gratis. thought we were special but see that is what they do for all their guests. Restaurant food and view were great: had clam chowder and braised scallops which I recommend. mechanic came on next am and fixed a loose throttle cable housing clamp. $55.00 for an hours work. I will return if the opportunity arises.

First stop at Dolphin, but definitely not our last. We were there only one night on our way south, but will make a point of scheduling a couple days next time. Chris, Maya and the staff made us feel welcome - Chris even brought us coffee and muffins as we were leaving. The restaurant is new and has great food

We took a slip for the night in transit along the coast and was excellent! Great staff, beautiful view and a great spot for a crew dinner. All the usual amenities but the best was the blueberry muffins in the morning. It is a quiet spot with not too much traffic.

The Best in Maine!, 2014-09-09
Captain: , Tipers Creek, VA (20)

We stopped here abput 2 weeks ago, pickedup a mooring and went ashore to make a reservation for dinner and take a walk. This is definitely the most friendly and welcoming marina/restaurant we have been to in our two summers in Maine. The clubhouse is brand new (only half finished, in fact), but the laundry is free and the shower and heads are pristine. The restaurant is justly famous for its blueberry muffins, one to each diner, and there is not a seat in the dining room without a view of the harbor. The service and food were excellent. The next morning, the launch came by and gave us two more blueberry muffinns and cofffee, free. They don't do this every morning but it was kind of gloomy and they wanted to cheer us up, which of course they did. One final note - when we returned home to the Great Wicomico River, in the Chesapeake Bay, there was a hand-written post card from the young lady who operated the launch, thanking us for our visit. In all of our experience cruising the east coast, the Florida Keys, the west coast of Florida and the Bahamas we have never had as warm and pleasant a stop as the Dolphin and we plan to return every time we visit Casco Bay.

One of the best!, 2014-09-08

We ducked in here due to storms forecasted. What a delightful surprise. ...even knowing its 5 star rating. VERY helpful and friendly staff--Chelsea was everywhere and Chris kept checking to be sure all was OK. Facilities are exceptionally clean. Shower and laundry are in same room but laundry is free so no complaints! Even the "Marina Dogs" are welcoming. The Dolphin Restaurant is a must--delicious Fish Chowder and the Lobster Tortellini were melt in your mouth. A truck was available for a run into Bunswick. If all that wasn't enough, each morning hot homemade Blueberry muffins and coffee were personally delivered to our slip!

A Rare Gem, 2014-08-27
Captain: , Rockland Maine (10)

Dolphin Marina and Restaurant is a welcoming, friendly family owned facility with a professional approach to the quality and detail of service. Experienced family members staff the key positions and work arm-in-arm with a young but carefully chosen and trained staff. The result is one of the best run marinas on the Maine coast.

All facilities have been completely renovated in the last couple years and well maintained. The marina has transient dock space and moorings. Launch service is provided to the moorings. A loaner car, kayaks and mountain bicycles are made available. The fuel dock has both gas and diesel. Located at Basin Point in Potts Harbor near South Harpswell, the marina is a convenient stop; and the view is spectacular.

It is the level of service and attention to detail that really sets this facility apart from others. Upon entering the harbor we called for our mooring assignment. The launch came out and met us, guided us to the mooring and even picked up the mooring line and handed it to my wife. The next morning the launch came out with hot coffee and the Dolphin%u2019s incredible blueberry muffins %u2013 I think that is a practice for first time visitors and only if time allows. The dock hands were unbelievably helpful, friendly and efficient.

The flagship of the operation is the restaurant. The building commands Basin Point and is designed to take full advantage of the incredible view. We spent three nights at the marina eating three dinners and a lunch in the restaurant and got a good sampling of a range of dishes. The menu hits all the Maine fare without leaving its comfort zone covering sandwiches to fried plates to specialty dinners. Our picks ranged from a swordfish dinner with a diced plum topping, yams and broccoli to a fried shrimp platter with sweet potato fries to a fried haddock sandwich. Our add-ons included house salads (with cucumbers and tomatoes that must have been just picked in a nearby garden), salmon cakes with a cucumber sauce and haddock chowder. Desserts are homemade. We never got beyond the berry crisp; it was just too good; we just kept having it. Dinners start with a blue berry muffin %u2013 even a bowl of chowder includes the muffin.

What amazes is the quality of even the simplest items. We were constantly exchanging samples of our selections with comments like %u201Cyou have to taste these yams%u201D (or green beans or French fries or salmon cakes, or fried haddock sandwich or %u2026). No rush to the trendy complex and bizarre sauces here but rather the highest quality ingredients consistently cooked perfectly. Several %u201Cbests%u201D here: best fried haddock sandwich of the season; best swordfish of the season; best garden salad of the season; best fried shrimp basket of the season %u2026. maybe ever (although it is hard to compare over 35+ years of Maine fare); and, without question, the best blueberry muffin ever. You get the idea %u2026. we really liked the food and the service staff mirrored the dock staff with helpful, friendly and efficient service.

No reservations taken for parties under six which is a plus as the bar waiting area has lots of seating and an incredible view. After the first night we actually waited for the dinner rush, added our name to the cue, ordered a bottle of wine and watched the rays of the setting sun light up the harbor. People are happy here and why not: great Maine food at moderate prices with service by people who care.

Anything we had regrets about? Sure. Why did it take us so long to find this place?

A Hidden Gem!, 2014-08-23
Captain: , Breckinridge, CO (30)

We had not read Active Captain before choosing Dolphin Marina. We picked this spot by chance as we were headed south for the season and we were so glad we did. Upon entering we were met by Walt at our mooring ball so you dont have to search for it. Once settled Walt and Chelsea came back out to give us all the information we needed.

They have a launch service which is nice if you don't want to hassle with your dinghy for a single night stay.

We did not go ashore to use any of the facilities or the restaurant so we can't comment on that. We did notice that the resaurant was very busy and wished we had gone in. Next time for sure!

To top the visit off Chelsea and Emma greeted us in the mroning with Blueberry muffins and hot coffee! What a treat!

Everyone we encountered was so friendly and helpful. This will be a definate stop as we head north and south every year!

A great stop is now even better. A bath house has been added: showers, bathroom, laundry all clean as expected. Loaner car available for groceries, and kayaks for harbor tours. Slips are two dollars a foot, moorings twenty five, Dock space free if eating lunch/ dinner.

And if all that was not enough, Chelsea greeted us in the morning with warm blueberry muffins and hot coffee.

What a great place, looking forward to our next visit

We have visited Potts Harbor many times over the years. It is refreshing to see a marina putting resources into facilities that cruising boaters appreciate, such as laundry, showers, attentive dock people....the muffin and coffee delivery put them over the top! Thank you, Dolphin Marina! You are a fun place to go, even if only for a quick getaway for a night.

the new bathrroms, shower, laundry are up and great. it's a sign of quality all around when the bathrooms and showers are so clean. the attention detail is present from the launch welcoming cruisers to moorings and the incredible food in the restaurant. great bar, drinks, and the family out does themselves with the creativity in the kitchen all the way to dessert. views are amazing.

We stopped here on our way to Bar Harbour and loved the treatment we received from the staff and the family owners. We are back again on our way south and are staying for 2 nights. The restaurant is also terrific and has the best fish showder. Moorings are $20 per night. I highly recommend this stop.

I've seen Dolphin Marina evolve from a simple little family run operation into a modern well staffed and professionallyrun operation.
Beautiful restaurant with great food, new docking with 30 and 50 amp capability. Fuel Dock and pumpout float are easy to pull up to.
And a beautiful new lounge and bathrooms, shower and laundry building. The Saxon family does a great job, keep up the good work! This place is a legitimate destination in my opinion, there is plenty to do and see in this area

Captain: , Niantic, CT (564)

Stayed overnight on a mooring two nights on separate occasions during our trip from CT to Penobscot Bay. Both times greeted by the staff in the marina's launch at the mooring ball offering help to get secured. Moorings are well maintained. Given a nice welcome package. Restaurant with a great view and good food. Next door an outdoor/takeout seafood shack with good prices for live or steamed lobster. Courtesy vehicle available if necessary to get into town for reprovisioning. After our second day with an early Sunday morning departure, one of the dock staff smuggled a couple of delicious blueberry muffins that are usually offered to the slip guests first. Beautiful surroundings. Some early morning wakes during the week from the local lobster boats, as expected.

Nice spot, a little rolly, good restaurant, 2014-08-05
Captain: , York, ME (1880)

You may roll some, it seems this harbor magnifies the wakes, but not as bad as some places. The restaurant parking lot was full with lots of local cars when we were there, but we'd already laid in a meal for the grill, so we didn't get to sample it. The free do-it-yourself pumpout float was a nice touch, although I'm not sure I ever did get it working right. The launch operator was prompt and courteous, I only wish they ran a little later than 7 PM, it would making dining in the restaurant easier. There isn't much on shore except the restaurant, but between dock, moorings, dinghy dock, pumpout and launch, and a picturesque harbor, this is still well worth the stop.

Update Aug 2014. There's a new restaurant to replace the old, and a nice new head/shower/laundry facility since my last review. Same great staff, very hospitable. They managed to "borrow" a few peppers from the restaurant so we could complete our kabobs. They also offered the use of the loaner vehicle if we needed anything else. Even the pump-out float looks new.

Not to take away from the great restaurant on site, but if you tire of that there's a take-out next door with typical Maine Coast fare and a lobster retailer who will cook them for you.

Great stop on the way into or out of Casco Bay, we'll be back!

Management response:
Thank you Tom for coming back to the Dolphin Marina & Restaurant and happy you enjoyed the updated amenities. I'm glad to hear our dock staff was able to find supplies for your kabobs! Enjoy the rest of the cruising season and look forward to seeing you again.

Dolphin Marina is a beautiful, calm refuge from the open waters of the gulf of Miane. Located in Potts harbor the anchorage is protected by a ring of sholes and outer islands There have been a number of improvments to the facility over the last few years, The number of moorings ad slips have increased significantly. The resturant is beautiful and serves unique as wellas traditional delishish dishes with a Maine seafood at the heart of the menu. The overnight facilities have also improved significantly with the additional bathrooms ,showers and laundry. Highly recommend stopping here on your way downeast or just for a night and dinner in the restaurant.

We have been cruising the east coast for 18 months and Dolphin Marina is the best marina we've stayed at. The staff is helpful, friendly and knowledgable. The restaurant has good food and a fabulous view. New bathrooms with a washer/dryer plus a loaner vehicle. I needed a dentist and the owner, Chris, helped me get an appointment nearby and I was able to use their vehicle to get to my appointment. The other highlight was that they delivered fresh blueberry muffins & hot coffee each morning! Great experience!

I almost don't want to write a review because if it gets discovered then I won't be able to get a reservation anymore. Nice new docks (photo on this site is old). New clean laundry and shower facilities. Best view on the coast. Most of all, super freindly and helpful dock staff. We stay here for a ight or two geteaway a few times each year. The restuarant is a must visit as well for both the food and the view. If you are looking for a loud social enviornment, this is not the place. If you want quiet, low key, calm, with a starry night, this is the place.

Excellent Restaurant and great views!, 2014-07-10
Captain: , Portland Maine (10)

My wife and I and friends have been boating in Maine for 8 years and have seen The Dolphin Marina and Restaurant evolve to bigger and even better dining experience and have seen very effective investment into the marina. The docks are the best yet plenty of moorings and in the rare day all are full plenty of good shallow anchor options. The old (house) restaurant was torn down recently and a new club house in construction on our visit over July 4th, 2014. Plenty of clean bathrooms and showers and a new washer/dryer. The front side of the clubhouse looks like a small wet bar under construction for hosting group events.

Diesel, Gas, Ice, recycling and the deck hands are as good as the best with desire to please and with pleasant attitudes.

Chowdah and Blueberry muphins are the signature pair but I've never been disappointed in anything sea food especially the maine Fried Clams.

No problem raising the dock hands on Ch 9. Friendly and responsive. The restaurant has good food and one of the best views anywhere. Service in the restaurant quick and very responsive. Free blueberry muffins and coffee brought to the boat on a mooring in the AM. This is a great place to stop when moving up and down the coast since it is well protected and not very far from open water. Reasonable mooring fee ($25).

The brothers who run the place are putting a lot of effort and money into many improvements, a new restaurant for the 2011 season, and a new dock system. If you need hauled out and transported this is who i use. Update for 2014 , a new shower and laundry facility has just been opened in the new building at the top of the dock.

Upgraded facilities, 2014-05-27
Captain: , Yarmouth, ME (192)

They have finally converted the old restaurant into 2 bathrooms and a shower. There's a back room that was locked at the time, so not sure if that will be anything. Make sure to ask for the combination when you dock/moor.

I agree with the previous posters. The dock hand was very nice and responsive once we got there, but it was very difficult to get a hold of them on the way in.

Restaurant very good as always, and not too bad a brew selection on tap.

Management response:
Thank you for your review and thrilled you enjoyed the new bathrooms, shower and laundry. I'm also happy our dock staff took good care of you during your stay and you enjoyed your dinner in the restaurant. Look forward to seeing you in the future.

nice restaurant, mediocre marina services, 2013-09-17
Captain: , Harpswell, ME (15)

A great place to pull in for a meal and a great view from the new, restaurant. But the marina services leaves something to be desired. I am a local and cannot speak to the transient experience, but my multiple attempts to get some local work done has only resulted in unreturned phone calls, unsatisfying conversations with staff, and a general sense that they are not interested in my business. So, I do my hauling and transport and storing elsewhere.

Doleful Dolphin Marina, 2013-09-12
Captain: , Hamble, UK (876)

Sadly despite lots of reports to the contrary, we obviously caught DM on an off day. I had rung ahead to ask if we could come in for fuel and water and when I eventually got to speak to Chris I presume, he had said it would be OK. The marina seems to operate through an answering service which doesn't really explain itself and the fact that they have no answers to any questions! Chris did ring me back though. This seemed strange since the restaurant was overrun with staff (and few guests as it was mid-pm) - perhaps it would be better to ring the restaurant number which is 207 833 6000?

Admittedly it was 10th Sept, but no one was around when we docked and I went to the restaurant to ask if we could take on fuel. Very reluctantly Chris was unearthed from behind the bar as if he hadn't already said it would be OK to come in. We were left to help ourselves to the fuel and after several requests he gave us some water. We felt a bit bad about this as the water available is from his well which was running dry, but we were setting off to Cape Cod with some bad days in between where we would be holed up.

And finally I asked if we could buy 4 of the reportedly excellent blueberry muffins and initially this was met with a positive answer, but no they couldn't spare any!

So I am afraid we were less knocked over by the DM welcome, and as we had entered Potts Harbor from the easterly channel which even at HW was quite an exciting challenge there wasn't much to recommend it on a grey September day.

Although no showers or laundry these guys really make you feel at home. The restaurant is absolutely the best. Fish Chowder, Lobster Chowder and Blueberry muffins are great. Entrees were good also. Chris came over to see how we were doing. This place is great. The next morning the launch operator came by with two freshly baked blueberry muffiuns for breakfast. Highly recommend this marina if only for the restaurant and the people running/working there.
