Reviews for Dog River Marina
As a transient marina, it is pretty lacking, 2016-10-26
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2486)

The good parts are nice people, a courtesy car, and one-night free dockage for Loopers who fill up with fuel. The not so good parts are wi-fi that is so sporadic as to be useless, docks that are fixed with many warped boards (watch every step as you walk), no cleats, barely adequate bathrooms, and only one shower for the entire marina. I don't know if there are better choices around here.

better than nothing!!!, 2016-08-21
Captain: , Alabama (172)

there are no cleats to tie onto, be prepared to tie onto a pole. not much in the marina, slips only

Great fuel stop, 2016-08-08
Captain: , New Port Richey (310)

Came over from my last review that ran out of gas and filled bright and early and underway. Thanks

If you need work, this is the place, 2016-07-15
Captain: , Guntersville, AL (54)

If you need work done, this is the place. After bumping the bottom on the Tenn-Tom, we limped in late on Saturday night. Monday morning, they pulled the boat right after starting work for the day, removed props and sent them to be fixed. After inspection we learned that we had broken a coupling and had to order it. Sonny Middleton and his crew was most accommodating to us and kept us hooked up to power for A/C and refrigeration. They worked hard to get us fixed and back underway at what I felt was a very reasonable cost. I'll come back for scheduled work when I'm in the area.

Absolutely great people and the best place in the area for repairs, 2016-05-01
Captain: , Corpus Christi (40)

I would absolutely stay here again. We cruised by on the way to delivering a 90' Skipperliner and they were more than accomodating. Just one shower and the docks arent perfect, but there are far too many great things about this place to lose a star. Courtesy car, expert mechanics, friendly people, and nearby restaurants to keep us occupied for a couple of nights.

Good Christmas stop, 2015-12-17
Captain: , Absarokee Mt (1228)

The docks are showing their age, but I notied someone regularly checking the boards. We had a headliner replaced, pulled the boat and cleaned the bottom and stayed 10 days. The work done well and resulted in no dock charges.

We particapated in the 2015 Christmas parade, lit the boat up and had a ball.

Great Stop, 2015-11-22
Captain: , Paducah KY (183)

The dockmaster here is great. He will give you all the information you need to get in the channel as well as help you tie and hook up. He has a wealth of local information for resturants and shoppping. They have an excellent repair shop and even a small West Marine on site.

A busy yard, but with some marina amenities, 2015-11-18
Captain: , Iuka, MS (1120)

Were here for a 2-night stay in early November. Filled to capacity with Loopers and others headed south for the seasonal migration. Showers and laundry are basic. Courtesy van stays fully booked. Restaurant across the river will pick you up in their pontoon boat. Very fair pricing on fuel and transient rates.

Nice place to get work done, 2015-11-16
Captain: , Essex, CT (1675)

These folks were terrific. We and our traveling partner both wanted to have work done aboard and they were incredibly accomodating. Ray, the mechanic who worked on our boat was as good as we've ever had work on our boat. He was incredibly thorough and walked me through everything he was doing and gave me some wonderful tips. The docks were ok and the bathrooms sub-par which is why I can't give it 5 stars. The West Marine on site was also a big plus and they guys there terrific in getting me what I needed within 24 hours. And make sure you call Grand Mariner for dinner. They pick you up at the dock and shuttle you across in their little pontoon boat. Well worth the trip.

Great stop, 2015-11-16
Captain: , Little River, SC (1967)

We left our boat here a little over week while we went to visit New Orleans via rental car. I asked them to look for an oil leak under my engine which has been plaguing me for several weeks and asked them to change the fuel filters. When we came back the filters had been changed several oil leaks fixed but the mechanic had just found outthat the oi pressure sensor was leaking. We stayed an extra day while they ordered the part and installed it. The Service Manager, Mike was extremely courteous and rsponsive to my inquiries while we were gone. The repairs were done expertly and when I went to pay the dockage bill, they told me there was no charge. Class act. The fact that there was only one showere and 2 restrooms did not really affect us. Whenever we needed to use the facilities, they were available. This is a working marina, not many frills, but very effective. Highly recommend it.

Top Notch Marina; for Paddlers too., 2015-09-07
Captain: , Edmonds. WA (10)

In August, 2015 I arrived at Dog River Marina having kayaked from the Pacific Ocean in Oregon. I was offered all the help I needed in unloading, cleaning and storing my kayak and getting to a motel with the marina's courtesy car. Everyone I met including Ricky, Paul, Linda, Bob and Sonny, the owner, demonstrated the hospitality the south is known for. Thank you.

The only reason I am not rating 5 stars is the lack (to my knowledge) of a shower and laundry.

Management response:
Thank you for your review.

We are sorry that you did not know about our showers and laundry. They are located at the fuel dock in the building with the restrooms.

We hope you have a great trip home and we look forward to seeing you upon your return to continue your trip kayaking to Florida

good place friendly, 2015-08-13
Captain: , Port Arthur, Tx (476)

stopped here to leave boat for a couple of weeks while returned home to take care of some business. staff called us while we were away to let us know storm could have affected power. they checked out boat seveal time letting us know boat was fine. can't say how much this gives piece of mind. when we returned I needed to fix ac they were more than helpful selling us needed freon to charge unit at fair price. we will return here again if we pass this way. thanks to fuel dock staff great people

Excellent stop, 2015-06-06
Captain: , Mobile, AL (41)

Easy fuel dock, help full attendants. Fair price on gas, quick access from the bay and back again.

Great People, 2015-05-19
Captain: , Prattville, AL (280)

We spent a few nights here as we readied ourselves to head up the Mobile River. The staff -- especially Ricky and Michael -- were fabulous. Helpful in every way and generous with their time, Ricky and Michael grabbed lines, helped us take on fuel and take off (well, you know), shared local information, and treated our young granddaughter like she was one of their own.

This is a top-notch marina that would be perfect if it were to have restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities.

Long Stay, 2015-05-19
Captain: , santa barbara (696)

Left the boat in covered slip from October to May - well taken care of, knowledgeable and accomodating staff. Work done on the boat primarily (bottom paint) took some time due to weather conditions and work loads, but professionally done; some last minute items before we left were made a priority and well done. Everyone one staff were a pleaseure to work with. Will return

Great Place, 2015-03-24
Captain: , USA,USA (51)

Small store at the fuel dock and a lot of nice people. Courtsey car, pumpout. TOPS!

Best stopover spot in the area, 2015-03-10

Spent a few days here last summer. Good facilities, knowledgeable and helpful staff. I would definitely return.

Dog River Marina / Middleton Marine, 2015-01-30
Captain: , Minneapolis (20)

For Cruiser's like myself coming down the Tennessee/Tombigee waterway I highly recommend Sonny Middleton's "Dog River Marina". I found several highly knowledgeble professionals in the marine service business working here. There was no service they were not capable of providing with exceptional graciousness and hospitality. They all made me feel quite welcome there. Having a West Marine Express store on site and exceptional meals just across the street at the Mobile Yacht Club was simply outstanding. What I also found upstanding was the plithera of rescue dogs and cats sheltering by my good host Sonny Middleton's Dog River Marina.

Great place to have work done, 2015-01-21
Captain: , Kelso, Wa. (834)

Left the boat here while we went home for the hollidays, also needed to have some work done on the boat while we were away. Glen kept us up to date on repairs and looked out after our intrests. He made sure that all was done to our satisfaction and was invaluable in managing the craftsmen doing the repairs and modifications. Also like to thank the rest ot the employees who went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We can't thank them enough.

always a great stop, 2015-01-04
Captain: , Corpus Christi,Tx (1569)

We have stopped here many times and have not been disappointed Ricky the Dockmadter answered the VHF promptly and assisted us upon arrival. Didn't need work but we have had work done here before and totally satisfied Since the shop was closed Ricky loaned us a battery tester from the shop. Nice courtesy car. We will return.

Wonder how marinas get 1st choice rated, 2014-12-24
Captain: , Grand Haven, MI (674)

First I did not stay at Dog River, Here is why Owner Sonny was on his golf cart and verbally abused our mechanic. Finally our mechanic had words with him and came back to our boat and appologised that we had to see or be there for that. If you don't know Dog River and Turner are right next to each other. We were at Turner when this happened. History is Turners Diesel Mechanic used to work at Dog River and now is on his own but works exclusively with Turner Marine.
Next when went to fuel and pump out at Dog River the attendant on duty that day, could be because of a Sunday, didn't help tie up. We were helped by a security guard passing by. The attendant was slow and spilled offal on the boat and would not clean up.
No recomendations here.

Management response:
Thank you for visiting Dog River Marina. We are disappointed to hear about your recent stay as this is not typical for the marina. Our management team would like to learn more about your stay and may be reached at or by calling 251-471-5449. Thank you again for your review.

Great place to stop or have work done, 2014-12-16
Captain: , Discovery Bay, CA (162)

We had our boat transported from California to Dog River. Linda and Rudy made the trip and scheduling easy. Once in the marina, Glen and his team really went our of their way to service Penny Pinchin.
With the normal amount of hiccups, these people made me appreciate the amount of effort to help us start our Great Loop adventure. We really reccommend this marina!
Please visit the Mobile Yacht club accross the street. They also made us feel warmly welcome.

Great Spot, 2014-12-02
Captain: , Belleville, Ontario (400)

Stayed for the month of November very reasonable - had a few repairs and they were extremely quick and professional - stayed at the end of the transient dock which felt like being out on anchor - washrooms are clean, staff friendly and courteous. Took a side trip to Ocean Springs near Biloxi for a fantastic breakfast at nice little town.

Another great stay at Dog River, 2014-11-26
Captain: , Snead Island, FL (40)

We only stayed a few days this time, but the facility, service, and people were all five star again. Of special interest to other cruisers was the outward desire to help by all the staff at Dog River Marina.

Still the best, 2014-11-21
Captain: , Mobile, AL. (151)

We spent a solid month here getting a list of items repaired/added and at least once each day the owner, Sonny would take time to ask how things were progressing for us. We had occasion to deal with each of the three departments, Middleton Marine for the mechanicals was first class all the way, the department that dealt with getting a new mattress was great, and finally the department dealing with everything else did a first rate job installing an inverter and making several other repairs, some minor and some not so minor. Sonny is very much on top of everything at the complex. Tom Elliot oversees Middleton Marine and has a top rated mechanic by the name of Ray that took care of us. Bryson and his assistant Robert are invaluable to the operation of this facility and both worked tirelessly.

Great Stop and Fuel Price, 2014-11-15
Captain: , Little River, SC (476)

You really can't find any better folks at a marina. Sonny and staff made us feel like they really appreciated us stopping there and got a free night with the fill-up. Doesn't get much better than that.

Right at home, 2014-11-10
Captain: , Stuart (80)

Stopped for fuel, stayed several nights getting various issues handled. Sonny and his team made us feel right at home.

Too many first class individuals to mention, except one,,, Diesel kept me entertained , be sure to meet him.

Friendly Marina, 2014-11-05
Captain: , Tarpon Springs (983)

Radio answered immediately, free pump out, electricity included, free night with fuel and AGLCA, excellent fuel price, courtesy car, friendly staff and help with the lines. Loved it. We came in at dead low water (neaps) after three days of northerly and had only 4'9" in some spots.

Have Made Dog River Marina a Destination TWICE and Will Again..., 2014-10-23
Captain: , Lake Erie (148)

Ocean Breeze has been well taken care of at Dog River from the moment of arrival to departure. Fuel prices can't be beat, the fuel dock staff helps with tie up and any problems encountered on the docks. Birds happen and we are in their environment! It is a saltwater marina and the likes of what most will see as they cross the GIWW. The fixed wood docks and pilings are in good repair and sturdy. We had OB's alternators rebuilt at DRM and can't say enough good things about their maintenance department. They are professional, very thorough and careful, expedite their repairs for Loopers to minimize delays and extremely fair on the cost of their services and repairs. I would never hesitate to stay at Dog River Marina.

Most Experienced & Skilled Service Team on the Entire Great Loop, 2014-10-22
Captain: , Alexandria, Virginia (40)

Captain Glenn, a real professional, hauled our boat for 30 days to coordinate and complete multiple repairs and maintenance while we were on vacation. Our repairs involved the electrical, engine, fiberglass and carpentry departments - all of which had the most highly skilled staff we have encountered in all our boating years. All repairs were done on time and below their estimate. They are generous with their courtesy car, which we very much appreciated, and they drove us to and from the airport at no charge! Dog River Marina made us feel like we were their only customer and we only wish they were located closer to where we live.

Dog Island Marina, 2014-10-21
Captain: , Cape Coral, Fl (838)

Definitely not a destination marina. Docks aren't great and bird poop everywhere. No effort to clean it up. No wifi except at the office. We used open wifi from Marina across the river. They do have a nice courtesy car.

Management response:
Thank you for your comments. The docks and their cleanliness are being address. The WIFI sometimes get bogged down due to guests streaming large content that is why it is hard to connect to it.
We don't claim be a destination marina but have reasonable fuel prices and have a great service oriented marina.

We hope to see you again to earn your business.

Great place for a rest or repair work, 2014-09-20
Captain: , Scottsboro, Al (10)

Enjoyed our four day stop over, they appreciate your business. Excellent courtesy van, close Walmart, West Marine store on site. We had some head problems, the mechanic worked saturday to complete the job. Sonny Middleton and his crew will insure your satisfaction.

OUTSTANDING, 2014-09-11
Captain: , Charleston, SC (60)

Wish they took live aboards. Each time we have visited this facility they have gone above and beyond to show us what they can do with absolute honesty, which even meant a loss of business for them. Very professional and very willing to help. Would highly recommend.

No hanky panky in this yard!!. Quality work at a fair price., 2014-09-05
Captain: , Charleston SC (805)

We initially went to Dog River to purchase fuel at the most competitive price of $3.75 per gal. Valvtech and took advantage of a nights free dockage which is offered to fuel dock / AGLCA customers.
We had been experiencing air conditioning problems which another yard had been unable to solve. Shawn, the electrician at Dog River was able to identify and solve the problem with two visits each of 30 minutes duration. We took the opportunity to purchase new house batteries from West Marine conveniently located on the premises. Shawn with a young and eager helper was able to install the 6 batteries within 30 minutes!.
When handed our bill we were extremely pleased at how fairly we had been treated.
We would have no reservation in returning to Dog River or reccomending most highly to fellow cruisers.
Friendly, helpful, quality work at a fair price cannot ask for more.
Thank you, Dog River Marina and Boatyard.

Great boatyard, 2014-07-20
Captain: , Atlanta (770)

We purchased out boat from A&M Yacht Sales at Dog River Marina and had some maintenance/retrofit work done before taking off north up the Mobile River. All parties involved - A&M, Dog River Marina and Middleton Marine - were great. They were a little slow getting underway with the work, but they got us out before scheduled lock closures on the Tombigbee and actually came in under budget. Special kudos to Charlie at A&M, Glenn at Dog River, and Ray at Middleton - who even showed up when we called at 10 pm to temporarily stop a gushing leak from the propeller shaft seal (it was then re-packed the next day). I cannot recommend these guys enough.

Definitely not a destination marina, but a great place to refuel, replinish and best of all to have most any kind of yardwork done by honest, competent people.

Friendly Marina, 2014-05-24
Captain: , Long Beach, CA (10)

We arrived after dark, were welcomed by night watchman, very friendly to transients, glad to have a place to call home after a long day. Clean laundry and bathrooms, fuel dock, and courtesy car.

Great service, low prices, 2014-05-23
Captain: , Burnt Store, FL (489)

One of the friendliest and most service oriented marinas also has the best fuel and dockage prices. Win, win.

A Wonderful Place, 2014-04-04
Captain: , Jamaica Beach, TX (180)

Can't say enough nice things about Sonny Middleton, the owner and the dockmaster Rick Johnson. They run a great marina, have reasonable prices and a nice facility complete with showers, restrooms, laundry and a courtesy car for running into town for dinner or supplies.

If you need it and can't find it - just ask Sonny. Few people know but he is a true American hero - Semper Fi you old Marine.

One of our favorite stops on the way South, 2014-03-11
Captain: , Marco Island, Florida (190)

We just wrapped up a two month sojourn at Dog River Marina. We always stop here on our way South, because this is one of the friendliest and most helpful marinas around. It is a great place to work on your boat. You can do it yourself, or use any of the experienced mechanics at the marina, who have many years of experience. There is West Marine store on site, which is very convenient. There is a courtesy car available for errands and shopping. There is a bathhouse with a shower and a washer and dryer. Wifi is available, and the fuel prices are the least expensive around. The only downside, is there is very little within walking distance. You can walk to the Mobile Yacht Club, which is open on the weekends, or take your dinghy across the river to the Grand Mariner Restaurant. The owner Sonny Middleton, always makes you feel welcome no matter how small your boat is, and this attitude carrys over to his employees, some of whom have worked for Dog River for over 40 years. It's always nice to see familiar faces when we return each year. We always recommend Dog River Marina to boaters heading South, and will continue to do so.

Honest and Helpful, 2014-02-23
Captain: , Hamilton, ON (10)

All of the staff were great, from the girls in the office to Sonney. Captin Glen and staff took care of our boat and made necessary repairs to our windless while we were there. We were glad to be able to use the loaner vehicle when nessessary.
We will stop there when we are in that area. We would highly recommend it.

Tip Top Professional Service, 2014-01-14
Captain: , Bluffton, South Carolina (327)

Echoing the last reviewer, we were thoroughly pleased with the attention and professionalism of the Dog Rive and Middleton Marine staff. Our 45' Sea Ray was at Dog River for about 8 weeks, due to some serious issues with our pod drives. Mike Myles and his staff were superb in handling our various issues, and coordination with pod specialists that had to be called in from Pensacola. We were on and off the boat during the holiday season and never had any concerns about the care and attention we were receiving even when we were not in the area. Ricky and the Dog River dock staff were always attentive as well. Highly recommended!

Very Good Experience, 2014-01-11
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (161)

Dog River is a complete and very competent yard on the Gulf Coast. It is a working yard and not a glitzy marina, but everyone is made to feel welcome by owner Sonny Middleton and his pleasant staff. Left my Mainship Trawler here from Mid November to January 10 for maintenance and repairs. Sonny Middleton was very involved in the process and always took an interest in how I was feeling about the work progress. He was very quick to jump into issues that arose and get them resolved. Rudy Ganas, likewise was very helpful. He assigned Capt. Glen Warwick as my contact while away from the boat, and Glen was wonderful in communicating with me and handling things that came up with work arounds and extra work. Mike Myles, at Middleton Marine managed the engine and generator work on my boat. Middleton is part of Dog River Marine. Mike also communicated with me and kept me informed on engine and generator issues which were discovered during maintenance work. This included emailing me photos and then calling to discuss. His experience and professionalism is impressive. I was very satisfied with my experience at Dog River Marine. Thanks to all for a great job!

best boat yard I have ever encountered in my 14 years of boating, 2013-12-06
Captain: , fairhope, al (42)

I have never felt more welcome, appreciated, or helped in any boat yard I have been in. The entire staff checked on me many times during the day to make sure I had all I needed for repairs or bottom job. The advice and help given was first rate and because it was always offered I never felt intimidated asking for either. I will only use Dog River for future planned outhauls no matter how difficult to get to them. The invoice was less than quoted, always a feel good.

Good but remote, 2013-12-02
Captain: , Patrick AFB Florida (1254)

Stayed here for four days (departed Thanksgiving Day) due to high winds. Fuel price was the best we'd seen in 1,000 miles of the inland rivers; docking price was good ($1/foot with first night free with fuel fill). Courteous and helpful staff, but they abandoned the VHF after we initially contacted them to get approach info and we had to yell at them standing on the dock to get the info to make a safe approach. Heads/shower are OK only. Small West Marine on the premises. Understand that the workmanship in the adjoining yard is outstanding and they were working on some big yachts. There was a welder building a boarding ladder for one of the boats on the dock who was doing a great job and had his own full shop in a large trailer that he brought to the site.

Only down side is that the location is very remote. The nearest good supermarket (Publix) is eight miles away (some el cheapo grocery stores are closer but beyond walking distance); the closest restaurant (other than a yacht club) is across the bridge and about four miles distance. The marina does have a courtesy van to help ameliorate the remoteness. Good WiFi signal, Verizon and AT&T.

Outstanding Southern Hospitality, 2013-11-30
Captain: , Stillwater, MN (20)

We've been stopping at Dog River at least once a year for almost 25 years. Sonny and his Crew always set the bar for quality of service and hospitality. There's always a smile and happy greeting, and you'll know that the entire staff will do what it takes to get the job done and make you feel like you're the only customer. Great job!!

Captain: , Chicago, IL (958)

Be aware that you may not get a response if you call on Channel 16 when you turn into the channel, you may need to call the landline so they can let the fuel dock know someone is on the way. We had the boat hauled and had the bottom done while here, excellent work. The day we planned on leaving we developed a battery/battery charger problem, they were quick to respond. Sonny, Middleton Marine and their crews go above and beyond basic service to make sure you are totally satisfied with the work and your stay.

They earn it every day..., 2013-11-23
Captain: , Castine, Maine (2964)

Our intended few days at Dog River Marina turned into two weeks due to high winds, a battery problem, and a trip to the vet. During that time we met all the staff and numerous boaters. The staff is courteous, professional, and always cheerful and helpful. The attitude is what can we do to help? But it wasn't just our experience, it was the experience of every boater we met whether they were transients just passing through, local boaters, or long time customers who made a point of coming to Dog River year after year.

We had an emergency problem with a battery bank on a weekend and they were there to help. Our puppy needed an unanticipated trip to the vet due to an ear infection and they made it happen. It was that old-fashion customer service that seems harder and harder to find. But when you meet owner Sonny Middleton you will understand. He's fond of saying, "We have to earn it every day." At Dog River it's not just words, it's how they do things.

Stopped to top off tanks was not impressed that after spending over a $1000 on fuel that when I tried to use the pump out I was told that it doesnt work that well. It didnt suck a drop.

Entry channel is tricky, especially after a blow from the north that can empty the bay however watrch your tides if you carry a deep draft as we do.

friendly marina, 2013-11-11

Outstanding customer service!!!!, 2013-11-08
Captain: , St. Petersburg (749)

During the week I was here to get engine & boat work done, Sonny Middleton stayed personally involved in the progress of the work being performed to make sure that, when I left, he & his staff had done everything they could to get the work completed on time and to my satisfaction, both in terms of quality and cost.

Excellent Service, 2013-11-07
Captain: , Belle Maer Harbor (70)

I was very happy with the service that both Middleton Marine and Dogriver Marina provided. They did both engine and generator maintenance and replaced an anchor light that had been giving me trouble for several months. They completed the work in a timely fashion that allowed us to catch a weather window. a plus was that because of the having my work done there there was no dockage fee.

A liitle rough around the edges but a great place to stop, 2013-11-05
Captain: , Montgomery Alabama (1102)

We always make a point of stopping here . The marina is a little rustic but its clean and friendly . The staff is very helpful , especially Rick , the dockmaster .
They are one of the few places left that has a loaner car , as well as a West Marine store on site .

A very service oriented marina, 2013-10-29
Captain: , Minneapolis, Minnesota (50)

We have always stopped at Dog River the 4 times we have been through Mobil Bay. The service people are all long term employees and very compitant and service oriented. We had an incident this time where a marina dog injured our puppy. Sonny Middleton personally took us to the vet and paid for the visit; then, had her picked up the next day to go for a bath and grooming and brought her back to us. Many from the marina stopped by our boat to make sure she was Ok. They are good people. I had two 8D batteries installed by them, and was able to shop at the West Marine on the premises.

Shipwright, Boat Sales, Fuel & Transient Services, 2013-09-28
Captain: , Pinnacle, NC, USA (1340)

Rustic but clean & well maintained bath, shower, laundry under tight supervision 24 & 7. Focus is in the work yard & boat sales. Handy having West Marine Expresson on premises. On-river transient T/A docks are fixed wood. OK with only 2' tide and minor river traffic.

Great Service Facility and Great People, 2013-02-26
Captain: , Colorado Springs CO (180)

We left our 48' trawler here for three months during which time we had several projects done promptly and professionally. I could not have been happier with the attention the staff paid to me and our boat. The Yacht Club (walking distance) was open to us, and the food was surprisingly good, and the people very friendly. They truly reflect "Southern Hospitality."

Captain: , Miami (71)

Great stop to take a break and catch up on maintenance. Free night of dockage with fill-up and good diesel price. I got great service and prices from Middleton Marine from Ray & Bill. Also received quick service from Bill's Canvas. I would recommend this stop to everyone. Met many other Loopers here partaking of this stop for various repairs also.

Good Working Marina / Great People, 2012-11-18
Captain: , Pensacola (429)

We stayed here for several months and everyone at the fuel dock and in the office were wonderful. There are just basic amenities, but they are kept clean, thanks largely to Ricky's efforts. It was nice to be able to walk across the street to the yacht club for dinner (Thur-Sun) and the Mariner is a short dinghy ride across the river. We appreciate Sonny, Rudy & Ricky's efforts to ensure our needs were met during our stay.

Good Fuel Price, 2012-11-17
Captain: , Aquia Harbour, VA (1177)

Older marina. Very much a working yard. Rick and Michael the dockhands very very efficient and helpful. Couresy car when we were there. Yacht Club is open for dinner Thur - Sat nights. No problem walking over for dinner on those nights. No other restaurants within walking distance. Good fuel prices and a free night for Loopers with a fill up. Had work done. Prices very fair.

Nice Marina with Great Deals, 2012-11-16
Captain: , Detroit (647)

Always stop here for the free nights dockage with a fill-up of diesel. Diesel has a great price. Had some work done on the boat and the staff was very efficient and professional. Sonny runs a great spot. Loaner car is available.

Good stop for repairs, 2012-10-31
Captain: , Cape Coral FL (4176)

Good boat yard for repairs. They do everything here. Loopers get a free night transient dockage when you fill up. Nothing here but the boat yard so you need to borrow the courtesy car to go shopping or restaurants. Super Walmart is 7 miles away. There is a West Marine Store here on the marina premises.

Just a great workiing marina with wonderful people., 2012-10-29

Superior Service and Value, 2012-07-21
Captain: , Chattanooga (327)

We are here having some minor engine work done this week on our way back to Tennessee. We had the bottom done here this past January and a Northern Lights generator superbly installed by Ray in '09 as we began the Loop.
Rudy and his staff also have taken care of numerous other items efficiently and reasonably.
It is our most trusted yard to have any work done. In addition, the attention you receive at Dog River is remarkable. From Sonny, the owner, to Rick, the dockmaster, you could not ask for more consideration and concern about your service. When we left to cross Mississippi Sound to New Orleans, Bryson sat down with us and went over the charts and then called to inquire about our crossing after we arrived. He has been our trusted counsel on crusing and repairs.
The fuel prices are always more than competitive and the courtesy car is a classic. Dog River doesn't pretend to be a resort destination but it is surely a primary destination to have your boat serviced. We have been very comfortable here for weeks at a time and will not hesitate to return to have any major work done or just to spend a day or two.

Rustic but good services, 2012-05-06
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

Best fuel price around mobile and panhandle. bathrooms and shower are simple but clean. Washer and dryer are new and very clean $1.50 to wash and dry (each). Protected however a distance off the ICW. Fuel price worth it. They no longer offer Loopers a free night with fill up.

free dockage with fill up, 2012-04-02
Captain: , Key Largo (5304)

Free dockage with fill up 11/13/07, for loopers. also a west marine, . laundry, loaner car
Take the car to Wintzells for oysters @ happy hour for $1,50 a dozen and $2 well drinks

A Great Place!, 2012-03-02
Captain: , Chicago, Il (11)

Stopped for 2 Mos; stayed for 14 (on the hard, at dock & in slip). Lived aboard. Very reasonable, friendly and knowledgeable.

Nice people - below average facilities, 2012-01-20
Captain: , Chattanooga (220)

Dockmaster was very nice. Amenities are non-existant. They put us on the fuel dock as transients.

Great Service at a Great Price, 2012-01-18
Captain: , Memphis TN (977)

High wooden piers. Free one night stay with fuel fill. Absolutely great service department. I stayed there in Jan
12. Nov '11, Nov 09, and April '08 Sonny (owner) is a man of his word. Highly recommend this facility. Great on service of any kind. Had electrical, eletronic, stabilizer, haul outs. Capt Bryson can solve any problem. Randy at the dock knows the local waters.

Excellent yard to have work done, 2011-12-25
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (822)

We had five or six jobs done with Sonny and his guys, the work was done on time, even though we added jobs. The price was fair to all. we had some minor damage on haulout, it was fixed without question. Excellent work.

Nice stopping point, 2011-11-06
Captain: , Brookings (308)

Enjoyed our stop there. Harbor guests can go over to the Mobile Yacht Club - oldest on the Gulf Coast & 2nd oldest in the nation.

Gateway to the TennTom, 2011-11-04
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, FL (603)

We stay at Dog River on our way up or down the TennTom. It is probably the last stop until Bobby's Fish Camp. Not fancy but good and capable with usually good prices for Diesel.

Great folks, nice stay, 2011-07-07
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (362)

We recently stayed almost 2 months and had an overall good experience. As noted by a previous poster, this is a working marina, not a resort. It is a great place to have work done by top notch mechanics at reasonable prices. Slips are not in great shape and we ended up sitting on the bottom with our 6' draft and a seasonally low tide. We were moved to the transient dock the next day since we were ready to leave; plenty of water there. Staff was very accommodating. Very few grassy areas for a dog, but the marina is very dog friendly.

Not a resort, 2011-01-27
Captain: , Cincinnati (1800)

We stayed here twice in the last year. Folks here a very helpful and friendly. The first time, we stayed for work to be done on boat. Prices were a bit high but the work was very well done. The second time we stopped for a few days and stayed on the transient dock. Everyone was helpful and the coutesy car was generally available and when not - Sonny offered his.

It is a working boat yard and not a resort but it is interesting to walk the yard and see the work going on. Coast Guard was rehabbing one of thiers while we were there.

Loopers get a night free when filling with fuel and West Marine is located on the property.

Very Honest - True to Quote, 2010-12-21
Captain: , Cleveland (2062)

We left our boat here for a month and had bottom paint redone along with a few other minor repairs. The actual bill was LESS than what they had quotes us due to looper discounts. I would definitely come an stay here again. If you are looking for a fancy marina with lots of amenities - this isn't your place. If you are looking for an honest place with which to deal - this is it.

Well integrated amenities, 2010-11-21
Captain: , Nashville (260)

Nice docks, helpful personnel, great boatyard, WM on premises.
Definitely a working boatyard, but clean and comfortable.
Bend over backwards to accomodate transients, incl courtesy car.
A regular stop - even tho' dog walking area limited.
Note that best nearby restaurant is across river at Grand Mariner

A little disappointed, 2010-10-25
Captain: , Stuart, Fl (435)

I have read about this place for years, and it seems that I am the only one who was disappointed. It is a working boat yard and it feels like it. Absolultely no where to walk a dog, and the place has trash everywhere. The docks were fixed with short fingers, so it was a chore to tie up for the night. The quote I got for fiberglass was 5 times what I was qouted in Michigan from two different fascilities!!!! Not just a little higher!
All that being said, they are nice folks and they have a West Marine right there. Also a nice yacht club accross the street on the bay, which you can use.

Great Facility, 2009-12-11

Great people, great service, 2009-01-18
Captain: , Yucaipa, CA (146)

Having a choise of hundreds of marinas, we elected to leave our boat at DRM while we returned to California for an extended period. It was a wise choise as they have taken very good care of our boat.

This is my second time in the area but the first time at Dog River, 2007-07-25
Captain: , Chicago (18)

This is a full service marina/boat yard. The transient docks are lay along docks connected to the fuel dock. The people running the fuel dock are friendly and helpfull. The repair facilities are top notch and can handle about any type of repair although they are not cheep.

Great Service, 2007-02-22
Captain: , Snellville, GA (162)
