Reviews for Dockside Marina
Just a t-head at a restaurant, but it worked perfectly, 2017-02-21
Captain: , Edgewater,MD (121)

We called around 6 pm looking for a place to stay near the bridge after a really long day that included being grounded for half of it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The "dockmaster" IS a bartender, but that didn't matter much. They had a server come out and assist us with dock lines, and he was very helpful. A couple of their power pedastals were not working, but they got us hooked up to one 50a outlet. Call to be sure there's power. No pumpout, showers, etc. Again, it's not so much a "marina" as a dock at the restaurant/bar. The food and service in the restaurant were excellent and the food and drinks were really affordable. They had maybe 50+ beers and microbrews available. Very short walk to West Marine, grocery store, etc. Plenty of clear water under our 6' draft. The water was clear enough to see our prop was fouled 4' under water. Highly recommend.

Restaurant with overnight dockage, 2016-11-18
Captain: , Alameda (667)

Very easy access just south of the wrightsville beach swing bridge. There are several slips but we tied to the main dock which has space for 3-4 cruising boats. Lots of cleats make it easy to tie up. There will be no shore help. Electrical hookups 30/50 and water are available. Restrooms on shore but no showers or other facilities. The fee is now a flat $2.00/ft, regardless of season or meal purchases. The "dockmaster" was the bartender.

Some wakes since the dock is directly along the ICW channel, but people were quite respectful and going slow so there were no obnoxious wakes.

Dock had 8 ft of water at MLW, tides are fairly significant at 5' but not an issue with the floating docks. Just beware of potential currents.

Walking distance (0.6 mi) to grocery, hardware and West Marine.

Captain: , Portsmouth, UK (141)

High season rates now all year.

Hardly a marina, 2016-08-23
Captain: , Tracys Landing, MD (266)

Stopped here for the night after a long trip down the ICW. Great restaurant and food, but the marina amenities were lacking. No shower, no fuel, no pumpout. Since it is right on the ICW just south of the bridge, it can get very busy. Other than that, not a bad place to spend a night.

Nice place at a fair price, 2016-05-19
Captain: , Racine Wisconsin (161)

Right on the ICW just at the bridge which opens on the hour. Nice restaurant and bar. Walking distance to town and west marine.

Well priced and you get what you pay for, 2016-05-07
Captain: , Annapolis MD (390)

We were very happy here after looking at the prices of the other marinas in the area, just needed a place to stay for the night, get a drink and find a decent restaurant to walk to. This was an excellent choice. Had help at the dock, very friendly people all around, lots of dining options on this side of the ICW. Highly recommend Ceviche for excellent and genuine Panamanian food and drink, about 15 minutes away on foot.

A Restaurant With Docks ..., 2016-04-28
Captain: , Hobe Sound, Florida (480)

... not a marina with a restaurant. Adequate for an overnight stop, but short on facilities and conveniences.

Surprisingly Adequate, 2016-04-12
Captain: , South Freeport (750)

Reading previous reviews we did not expect a fancy marina.
Satisfied to have a safe dock. Maybe a bit much with no showers.
The dock was on ICW just before bridge with few inexpensive options beyond, northbound.

Docking, we just pulled up and tied off. Easy off in morning for bridge opening on the hour.
Easy walk to Grocery and West Marine (.5 mile). Early evening lightly amplified music from restaurant.
Good menu. Plan to stop on return next fall. Pleasant.

Easy approach, power and water..., 2015-11-29
Captain: , NYC - Liberty Landing (236)

...but that is about it. No fuel, no dockhands, etc. All were fine for us, just making a stop on a run south. This was a surprisingly easy duck into the IC; but definitiely do in through Shinn Creek; much easier. We are a 48' sailboat with a 6' draft and never saw less than 10' on the whole ride into the marina. Dock isn't the best, the power outlet stands wobble a bit, but produce the right voltage, so was all we needed.

Ate at the restaurant, which was very reasonably priced. Had the Tuna fish tacos...quite good.

Get fuel across the ICW...was $2.399 when we went.

Made a space for us, 2015-10-30
Captain: , Baltimore (529)

We were transiting the area when our starboard shaft coupling failed. All local marinas were full, it was 5pm in the evening. Ryan #2 (from Annapolis) moved other boats in the marina to find a place for us to dock with only one engine in a strong tide change. We stayed two nights and had a mechanic repair our shaft coupling.

The docks are floating. They had 50amp power for us.

minimal facility, 2015-10-27
Captain: , miami (120)

The good news is that they did respond on the radio and phone, the docks were in good condition, with water and electricity. Restaurant/bar on site. However, minimal services, no fuel, no showers, no laundry, etc. Fine as long as you know what you are getting.

Between Best and Worst, 2015-08-21
Captain: , Oriental, NC (40)

The reviews vary from one to five stars. We think this fits in the middle. The floating docks are elderly but safe. Docking can be a challenge because of the current and on weekends there are a lot of boats vying for space. But the dockhand (Canton) was helpful. Some electric outlets do not work, but most of them do. The dockside restaurant ambiance is pleasant. The service is efficient. The food is just average for a place on the waterway. The fish tacos had reasonably good ingredients but the preparation was sub-par. They would do better to have a good draft beer selection. The conclusion: this is a nice stop, convenient to many facilities, and worth a try. (A couple of years ago, we stopped here in December and found that the combination of floating docks and good food was just what we needed after a day on the water.)

Falling apart, 2015-06-06
Captain: , New Bern, NC (486)

Transiet dock is falling apart and in very poor shape. No electoric, no fuel, just water. Dock can only handle 3-4 boats.
Restaurant is nice but have to deal with the noise and lookie looues. Wake is a problem from the fishing boats that don't know what no wake zone means.

Only game in town, 2015-05-26
Captain: , New Bern, NC. (903)

For quick stop with floating dock and food it's good. The fuel dock was closed at the time of our stop, not sure why. The service was ok and food was ok.

Vaughan E. Taylor, 2014-12-27
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (451)

Great restaurant with outstanding menu and very friendly service. The tuna nachos are to die for, with large pieces of perfectly seared tuna! We had a lot of different things, and everything was absolutely great. This is a really happening place, with a quiet elevated restaurant, and an active bar scene that is enclosed, or you can eat on their two levels of deck, all overlooking the waterfront. The docks are floating and easy to use! This is the place to stop in Wrightsville Beach!

Good choice for an unpanned stop, 2014-12-23
Captain: , Iotta Louisiana (404)

Heavy fog for several days with associated late starts changed plans requiring a stop in Wrightsville. Choice of three places to stop, chose Dockside. No showers but close to stores. Very friendly staff, and reduced rates in off season. Stuck through Christmas Eve,, gave me the last night for free. See the bartender to negoiate dock fees. Leaving the marina walking toward the bridge take the first left through a residential area. Pavement ends, then restarts and leads straight to Harris Teeter WM etc. ABC store about 3 tenths of a mile to the left

great stop if you like independant docking, 2014-11-08
Captain: , South Portland, Maine (847)

noone answered on the radio , finally got through to the bar by phone. The young fellow who arrived to help with lines was not really aware of boat dockage routine and left after tying one line. That being said, noone was around to assist with paying for dockage either so we stayed two days and left without any dockage fee. Quess it all evened out. you get what you pay for.

Docks are floating but a bit old and rickety, power and water is available. We ate with 7 at the restaurant so didn't feel bad about not having dock charges. Harris Teeter an easy walk for provisioning and a West Marine and fine little bakery, Sweet and Savory, at the Lumina Mall.

I added a star for the free dockage.

Dockside was not in the plan, oh well., 2014-08-24
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (532)

Arrived 7/10/2014, only because an unexpected storm overtook us earlier than predicted. $2/ft is accurate, even if we ate there, too expensive for the offerings. One good thing was Rich, the dock hand, very proffessional and skilled at helping to dock one's boat. Tie along is fine if other boaters respect the "No-wake" zones. Found no respect here, even late into the night and then early morning sport fishing boats heading out resulting a sleepless night in Wrightsville. Caution to dog owners, poison ivy surrounds the weedy areas alongside the gravel parking lots. Dog was fine, I broke out with rash the next day, even after taking precautions once realizing what he was trouncing through. Bathroom facilty was in the restuarant, closed after hours, no showers, laundry, supplies, but this wasn't our first choice, just a place to get out of the rain.

Great place. Convenient to everything. Good customer service, 2014-07-29
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (20)

Great location. Great dockside bar and restaurant. Highly recommended.

4 Star for Entertainment Value, 2014-05-08
Captain: , Silverthorne, CO (419)

The docks at the restaurant were fine We had help tying up. There are some wakes but it's all part of the entertainment, watching boats line up to wait for the bridge. An easy 10 minute walk through a gated community (narrow streets, trees) to West Marine, Harris Teeter, and a great hardware store. When we called we were told $2/ft, but we asked when we got there what it would be if we had dinner. It turned out to be free dockage with dinner (and otherwise would have been 1.25)

Easy in - easy out, 2014-04-22
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, Fl (440)

Floating docks in a no-wake zone. Great help docking. First time staying here & would do it again. Right on the ICW south of the bridge.

Good stop right on waterway, 2014-01-27
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (235)

Good service, lots of help docking. Dockage was free with dinner. Lots of convenient stores & Post Office just across bridge. Nice loop to run or walk just over bridge.

excellent marina. , 2013-12-06
Captain: , Wilmington, DE (216)

Friendly staff willing to help any way needed. Great restaurant with all you can eat oysters on Wednesday nights in season. Good water both sides of the face dock with only moderate current. Rates are modest. $1.25/ft with a discount to $1.00 for second night.

Convenient location on waterway, 2013-11-27
Captain: , cushing, maine (482)

Face dock is right on waterway and in the center of action in Wrightsville Beach. Fuel but no pump-out. Restaurant and bar right there. Can walk to grocery store. Beach is a longer walk but worth it. A very friendly place with lots of activiety. Wilmington is nearby but a cab ride.

Best Service, 2013-10-07
Captain: , Galesville, MD (481)

10/13- stopped here too wait out rain from TS Karen. Great place as usual. If you want fancy, go across the ICW and pay $2.50 per ft. If you want good value and fun, stay here.

We pulled in and three people helped us tie up. They are basically a bar with a marina. Bathrooms were clean. The staff drove us to the store and the hardware store. Ice was free. The cost was great! Will stay there again.

Very Disappointing, 2013-05-30
Captain: , Port Royal, SC (231)

Hardly a "marina." Descent resturant and active bar, but most boats are small and stopping for dinner or a drink. Only good thing is it was on the right side of the bridge in terms of the direction I was headed. Price included electricity, but they have nothing else to offer. No laundry and bathrooms are same as the bar - very DIRTY and stink.

Good Place to Stop, 2013-04-03
Captain: , Annapolis (434)

Based on Active Captain comments we tried here and were very satisfied. Good docks, easy tie up. Bar within 50 feet was a plus. 15 minute walk to Harris Teeter's, West Marine and liquor store. When we called they said that the rate was now $1.50/ft but when I said we were bringing four people to dinner at the restaurant they dropped the price to $1/ft. Not a lot of amenities at the marina but the restaurant was good. Did I mention the bar was close? We'll be back.

Good find in Wrightsville, 2013-03-28
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (701)

Stayed here on 3/28/13. Enjoyed it a lot. Very active bar scene, but no associated noise. Area outside marina very nice, with pretty homes. Grocery, West Marine, and hardware about 3/4 mile away. No showers, but for $1.25 a foot, I can live with that. Will stay here next time through. Wakes no problem.

Nice marina, though not ideal for transients, 2012-12-15
Captain: , New Bern (318)

Was here in early December. Nice area, about a mile from WM, grocery and hardware. Solid floating docks without much wake from passing boaters as almost all respect the No Wake zone coming into Wrightsville Beach.

The marina itself has a nice bar and restaurant and is reasonably priced. Not a lot of amenities for cruisers--no laundry, no showers, and the marina bathroom closes with the bar each night.

location,location, 2012-11-18
Captain: , Annapolis,Maryland (40)

We had spent the first night on the hook (off Wrightsville) but seeing a long period of bad weather, we called around and found this facility (really a restaurant).Beautiful homes line the street and it's a safe place to walk even at night. Dockside is just south of the ICW bridge and across from the cut to Wrightsville (entertaining to watch boats being swept sidways as they attempt to make the turn into the Wrightsville cut). There are potentially strong currents but the staff coaches you in.
OK... this is not really a marina but The Harris Teeter, West marine and one of the best equiped hardware stores on the coast is just behind the grocery store (a 15 min. walk). They will even cut cut you exact pieces of starboard on their table saw!
You can pick up the buss to Wimington right in front of the shopping ctr. They even have bike racks so you can enjoy a day sight seeing around this scenic city. Don't miss "Front Street Brewery" for great micro brew and good food.

Great stopover, 2012-11-08
Captain: , Richardson, TX (552)

We came in for 1 night and ended up staying 4 because we had some business to take care of. Everything is within walking distance unless you just don't like walking. Harris Teeter & West marine are a 15 min walk; another big shopping center (with a Food Lion) on down a couple more lights on Eastwood Rd (74) at Military Cutoff. Plenty of banks, a post office across the bridge by the Causeway Cafe which was great for breakfast. We even walked to the beach only 35 mins away. The marina staff are very friendly, offering to help with anything we need. We're on the inside of the face dock so no wakes, floating docks are in good shape. True there are no showers or a laundry but we don't need either one, but that's the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. The marina rest rooms are open from about 7.30 am to 11 pm which is fine, we don't need them outside of those hours! All in all a great stop and we'll be back and we've been to 2 other marinas here. Price is right in the off season too!

Very convenient!, 2012-08-04
Captain: , Va Beach, VA (151)

Right on the ICW, and very accommodating staff.
Resturant was acceptable, but not memorable.
Face dock was easy for a side tie.
Would stay again for the convenience. Diesel fuel was $0.90 above other opportunities at $4.25/gallon!

Price is Right - Nice Dock, 2012-06-17
Captain: , Cleveland (2083)

Update: We stayed 6/11/12 for one night again and discovered a Harris Teeter and West Marine about a 10 minute bike ride away. Given our experience with the current last year, we called ahead and requested a spot on the face dock. The dockmaster was wonderful - even moving a boat to make additional room for us to manuever into the dock. They really DO want transients! The waves were not bothersome to us at all - being fairly close to the bridge and another large marina across the way seemed to slow most boats down. This was also the perfect place for the hourly bridge opening - no floating around - just untie and off to the bridge!

Original post 11/2011: For just an overnight stop, this 'marina' is fine. It's more a restaurant than marina but worked for us. As stated previously, there are no showers but the restrooms are fine. The current can be wicked through this area. Suggest you dock on the face dock ONLY. We were put on the inside due to larger boats coming in (we are 36') and had a difficult time with the tight spaces inside (with only a slight current).

There is a great breakfast place (Causeway Cafe) a short walk across the bridge.

Captain: , Annapolis, MD (343)

Hard to say this is a marina. You can tie up and stay overnight with electrical power, but that is about it. Resturant is good. It's a local hangout so be prepared for lots of noise on Friday and Saturday night. Boats passing on the ICW may or may not slow down. Amenities ? There are none.

Stayed 5 days, 2012-04-05
Captain: , Shinnecock Bay, NY (610)

I stayed 5 days, but only because the price and location were right. As noted, no showers, or laundry, and the restrooms are closed when the restaurant closes. I didn't mind the rocking since it did quiet down in time for bed. The restaurant is very good, try the "Fish & Chips" Ahai Tuna, Pico de Gallo and black Tortilla chips, unique. The dockage was 1.25 for 1st night then $.25 less each night until it was $.25 a foot.

Dockside dining, 2012-02-08
Captain: , SeaScape Marina (310)

Great atmosphere for dining, large menu. Variety of meals reasonably priced. Have eaten there several time. Always try to get by there when in the area. Enjoy watching the boats as they come and go. Tides can be difficult for the inexperienced boater.

Excellent Atmosphere, 2012-01-26
Captain: , Wrightsville, NC (270)

Dockside Marina offers a great atmosphere for dockside dining. This is one of our favorite spots to enjoy a meal and watch the ICW traffic. I agree with the last reviewer that tidal currents can be treachorous in this area.

VHF ahead of time, 2012-01-19
Captain: , Southport, NC (916)

Dockside is well worth the trip just to eat at Dockside Restaurant. If you are not an experienced Captn and arrive when the current is rolling, be sure to hail ahead and ask for docking assistance. Tidal current, narrowing dock openings, and ICW boat traffic require some advanced planning when docking.

Menu Upgraded, 2012-01-08
Captain: , Wrightsville beach, NC (424)

Stopped in early January. New chef has upgraded menu; good food even better than before. Steamed local oysters are excellent.

Good stop. Good price. No shower. Free power, 2011-12-19
Captain: , Quebec, Canada (268)

This was a good stop after being in the ICW all day. There is a bar where you can order food or a nice dining room upstair. Food was good and dock price at 1.25 hard to beat.
There is no shower and the restroom is close during the night, so be advise.
Very quiet during the night, slept good. Will come back

Stop on way south, 2011-07-31
Captain: , Palmetto Fl (545)

We spent one night on the facedock of the "marina" in July. Nice restaurant and bar with daily specials. Not really a marina, but more like a restaurant with slips for daily usage. Dockhands were helpful and friendly. NO SHOWERS, but bathrooms are close and ok. Electricity was not easily accessible, but we made it work.

Get hooked up!, 2010-10-27
Captain: , Burlington, VT (141)

Pulled in with 34' sailboat and fueled up. Richard, who is the dockhand and barback landed us served us drinks and apps and drove us to the ABC liquor store and the supermarket. In and out in 45 min.

Good fuel stop, 2010-06-08
Captain: , Wilmington, NC (297)

Stopped to fuel up. Helpful dock staff. Easy docking but can get alittle crowded

Good for a quick overnight stop..., 2010-05-26
Captain: , Miami, fl (3646)

easy in and out, restaurant and bar on site, perfect for a short overnight stop. reasonable rate.

Great Customer Service, 2009-12-22
Captain: , Daytona Beach, FL (273)

We parked for the night at Dockside Marina. Jeb the harbor master and another dock hand helped us park . They didn't leave untill everything was hooked up and we were happy. We needed a ride to the airport and Jeb offered to take us instead of a cab. The 1.25 rate also included electric. The service was great.

Fuel is expensive, 2009-06-16
Captain: , Wrightsville Beach, NC (368)

Small face dock, but nice people. Have the soft shell crab sandwich. Great place to have a drink and watch the boats go by.

Convenient but at a price, 2008-01-21
Captain: , Oriental, NC (231)

If you're just plowing the ditch to get north or south for the season change, this place is OK for an overnight stop. Very noisy with party boats on the water and bar patrons on land. Easy approach even with a tidal current, but don't assume the guy on the dock with a can of beer is there to help you or to offer you a welcoming beverage. The transient rates are pretty stiff, and the bath facilities are what you would expect at a bar.

Drunks on Dock, 2007-08-02
Captain: , Ft. Myers (406)

Last May we experienced drunks walking the dock after bar closed. Very high priced for a crummy facility. Heads also shared with drunks with poor aim.

OK, but not geared to transients, 2007-07-25
Captain: , Lighthouse Point, FL (79)

No one monitoring Ch16. Bartender is dockhand and dockmaster.
Pricey for a basic place to tie up. Geared to dock and dine crowd at their restaurant.

Great Facility, 2007-01-29
Captain: , Stuart,FL Wilmington,NC (53)

We spend lots of time here in the summer. We love the restaurant and staff.
