Reviews for Discovery Harbour Marina
Everything you need is there!, 2016-08-31
Captain: , Ridgway (70)

DHM is an excellent marina. Docks are in good shape, protection is excellent and service is good. If you need answers to questions about the marina or need local knowledge, Mike is the guy to go to - very helpful and all round good guy. Otherwise ask for Dean.

All services are easily accessable - including a huge grocery store, good chandlery, liquor store, restaurants, boat ramp and more. One downside for 'go slow' boats is you have to enter and exit the marina considering the current and wind. Since current can be 8-10 knots out front, you have to wait for slack current and then make sure the wind isn't going to create a rage at Cape Mudge. Currents collide there so caution is needed. We were stuck for 2 days waiting for slack current and acceptable winds.

Poor Customer Service, 2015-08-29
Captain: , Tacoma, WA (205)

Just completed a round trip to Alaska. Discovery Harbour Marina was the most disappointing stop of the entire trip. Comments about the nearby amenities are correct, therfor Campbell River is a great provisioning stop. However, moorage here was the most expensive of all the facilities we visited in WA, BC and AK. On the way north, we called ahead and got a slip assignment because we would be arriving late (not summer hours yet). When we arrived our assigned slip was occupied, and the office was closed. Now what? Fortunately, several other boaters made room for us. The next day when we registered, we purchased WiFi, but the password did not work. (Purchase WiFi? At most marinas it is included free, if they have it. At Discovery, it is $3.00 for day, and if you want to upgrade to "good" WiFi, $5.00 per day.) On our return trip, we were assigned a slip where the dock was lobsided and dangerous. We had to get another assignment. Again, the first WiFi code we purchased did not work. And finally, we arranged moorage for two nights, but when we heard the afternoon weather forecast the first day, we decided it would be safer to leave after one day. But the marina would not back out the cost of our second day's morage. They said the did not give refunds, and they had signs in the office to that effect. They offered a credit, but at this point why would we want to return? I guess the adage "live and learn" applies here, so we will not be back. There are two other marinas close by, and Comox and Port McNeill are also good provisioning stops with marinas whose mzanzgement understands the value of customer service.

A good place to stop, 2015-08-05

Discovery Hbr is the only Campbell river marina with everything you might need. Everything is located within easy walking distance to the marina. The only fuel dock in Campbell River.

Best in Campbell River, 2015-03-19
Captain: , Mercer Island, WA (693)

This is a great marina to stop on your way to Seymour Narrows. There are lots of transient spaces and they will accomodate even very large boats. The fuel dock is easily accessible and has good prices (for Canada). The marina itself is also easy to access with a wide entrance. But it is well protected from the current which can run fast in the strait outside. The marina is run by the first nation people and they are very friendly.

Great stopover northbound or southbound, 2014-09-09
Captain: , Olalla WA (412)

The perfect stop to reprovision as everything you could possibly want is within easy walking distance, groceries, chandlery, pharmacy, clothing. Docks and facilities in good shape, and well-run. No complaints of any kind.

Easy, easy and great service, 2014-06-02
Captain: , Vancouver (30)

Our party of 6 was so happy to be here. Great restaurants close by and all the services. Very clean and great showers. We ended up staying 3 nights instead of 2.

Discovery Harbour Marina Improvements made!, 2014-04-09
Captain: , Campbell River, BC (153)

Apparantly in the past, prior to 2012, this place was not well run. I have been here since the fall of 2012 and in my opinion the management is top rate and facilities are constantly being upgraded. Excellent showers and laundry and nearby all the stores a person could ask for. Improved wifi on the docks - not free anymore. but free wifi is available at the nearby pubs, and the usual places like starbucks, etc. Ocean Pacific store and boatyard is adjacent.

Campbell river Home Port, 2013-02-06
Captain: , campbell river (55)

To enter this port make sure you look at the current tables as flow rate can be greater than 5 kts. When inside the break water and in your slip enjoy the shopping and food.

Great for repairs, 2011-06-30
Captain: , Friday Harbor, WA (490)

Agree with the previous comment, except we did not have any power outages. I need to get a fresh water pump ordered and installed. Lost of options but the Ocean Pacific at the head of the docks is a great help. If you stay try not to stay at the K dock as it is swelly from passing Boats sometimes, but nice and wide docks

Discovery Harbor Marina, 2011-01-26
Captain: , Anacortes, WA (282)

Discovery Harbor Marina is in a great location--next door to a large shopping center with easy walking access. There are several restaurants. The Ocean Pacific marine supply store is excellent. Super well equipped grocery/department store.
The marina itself, however, shows a lack of onging management and maintenence. During our stay (9/2010) there were several electricity "outages" on the docks. The marina staff seemed clueless as to when repairs would be made. Laundry and shower facilities in the marina were dirty. We used alternate facilities in the shopping center. Trash was not being removed. The fuel dock is badly in need of repair or replacement.
With better management and some attention to detail this could be a great marina and destination facility, a potential jewel of a marina and the next logical stop northbound from Sidney and Nanaimo. As it is, Discovery Harbor needs work.

Stop and provision here, 2010-12-24

Nice well run marina with all the ammenities close by. Canada Tire, Groceries, Bank and much more within walking distance of the marina. 6 miles N. to Seymor Narrows.

All amenities and located in the downtown core. If you are visiting Campbell River, stop here first. Campbell River's biggest and best marina.
