Reviews for Deep Point Marina
Great experience, 2016-08-04
Captain: , New York City (61)

Would give four stars but for the lack of a lounge area and the distance from town.
That said, what a lovely spot! Wind from the river keeps the bugs away, the pool is great and everyone we met while there was laid-back and helpful. The staff, while only there during business hours, are top-notch. There's a little trail to the shore of the Cape Fear River. On our trip from Marathon to Wilmington this place and Halifax Harbor Marina were the two best facilities at which we stayed. It is just a beautiful spot. We had planned to be here a couple of days but stayed for a month.

Reasonable dockage, 2016-06-07
Captain: , Savannah, GA (320)

Wecame into this marina for the first time due to a recommendation from our cruising friends. We had reservations for two nights, but had to extend our stay for an additional night because of tropical depression Colin. Dockage is a very reasonable $1.20 per foot. Doug Bartenfeld, the Harbor Master and Richard both were on the dock to help with our lines due to the high winds. They even changed our slip location due to the wind and our high freeboard. We came in at low tide and churned mud at the fuel dock and our slip. We draw 4.7 feet under our keel. I think this sliting might be because of the Ferry running from the marina to Bald head Island from 5:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. They have to power in and out of their dock area. The ferry does makes for an efficient alarm clock if you wish to wake up early. Their horn is one short blast as they leave their berth. The pool, restrooms, and free laundry are kept in an orderly fashion. The employees is what makes this marina sucessful.

Lots of Ferry traffic, 2016-05-13
Captain: , Senaca Lake Geneva, N.Y. (220)

Curtis and Doug run between here and Indiago Plantation Marina so the office is often closed. No boaters lounge! Pool is OK. Ferry starts @ 5 am and stops around 11pm, So if you are in slip F 20 you will KNOW the schedual!! Price is right. Wifi good. Free cable TV.

Nice, easy marina, 2016-05-13
Captain: , Buck Hbr, Me (50)

Despite being a little outside the very nice town of Southport, the laid back yet professional attitude of Deep Harbor had us coming back this Spring. We broke down and the staff were extremely accommodating, finding us multiple slips until we could move. Free laundry. Great showers. Local long term boaters are extremely friendly; loaner bicycles and even cars were offered a number of times. Great folks.

Very nice, but a bit shallow, 2016-04-23
Captain: , Eastport, MD (490)

Stopped here for one night after a 2 day passage and found it to be a wonderful place. Friendly live-aboards and very nice facility, though from our slip just inside the entrance it was a 5 min walk. Dockmaster Curtis was quite helpful, even giving us a ride into town on his way home AND recommending a restaurant that was perfect for us (Loco Joe's).

We did have a bit of trouble leaving. We needed near low tide to get under the Snows Cut bridge, so left near the low end of the tide cycle and found our slip to be only 4 1/2 ft (we draw 5 1/2). We were able power out, and even outside the slip was shallow, needed to back over near the fuel dock to get enough depth to leave. Not a big problem once you know.

Good place to spend a bit of time, 2016-02-18
Captain: , Colorado (411)

I have stayed at this marina a few times and this last stop was just like the others. Doug (harbormaster) and his staff are helpful and accommodating and the montly rate is worth it if you are there more than a few days. Well protected floating docks. Ferry runs on the hour and if you are on the closest dock you may notice it's arrival/departure. They are a little out of town, so transportation is needed (Carolina Yacht Care - CYC) does a crew shuttle for a reasonable daily fixed price to get you whereever you need to go. They have a nice pool/patio area and a modest amount of snacks and supplies at the store. Free laundry. Only a single shower in each of the men's/women's bathhouse. Wifi is generally good. Free cable TV at the pedestals along with 30 and 50 amp power.

Deep Point Marina, 2015-11-30
Captain: , Southport, ME, USA (1158)

Great place: friendly helpful people, nice floating docks, free laundry. No issues with the Baldhead Island Ferry. I highly recommend this marina. Back again 23 Nov 2015. Still a great marina!

The Deep Point alternative, 2015-11-19
Captain: , annapolis, MD (120)

The Southport Marina was full with Sail Magazine rally group. We elected the Deep Point Marina and found a very helpful staff and high quality docks with well above average restrooms and free laundry (two washers and two dryers). The ferry to Bald Head Island comes in from 6:00 to 11:00 and is mildly unsetteling but you can get used to it with all the good around you.

Quiet and inexpensive with a great staff and ammenties!, 2015-10-20
Captain: , New York, NY (20)

We ended a long journey delivering our new boat from Marathon Fl to the Wilmington NC area, where we planned to relocate. We stayed at deep point for a month. The marina is very well protected, and has a nearly constant breeze, which keeps things cool and BUG FREE! Excellent salt water pool and free laundry facilities, as well as a cleaned and well maintained bathroom/shower make it as good a marina as we've stayed at. It's small, tucked away and we found the local livaboards to be very friendly and helpful. Staff is excellent and responsive. When the remnants of hurricane Joquin pounded the area with rain, we couldn't get to the boat becaue of road flooding... but we found the boat safe and sound, with a few lines retied because a cleat ripped free. It's a long walk or short bike ride to Shouthport, which has really great restaurants and bars. The only reason we left is because the apartment we rented was well over an hour away. I would strongly recommend this well protected, tucked away spot.

Great Place to Spend some time, 2015-10-18
Captain: , Racine, WI (515)

We were greeted at the dock to secure lines and connect power. After several previous visits looking for a place to stay for a while we decided to spend some time here. Facilities are first rate. The town of South Port is very close. Ferry is not a big deal.

Nice Overnight, 2015-07-21
Captain: , Charleston, SC (40)

Had a very pleasant one night stay. We arrived from sea after 5:00PM and there wasn't anyone to help with docking or give direction. Made ourselves at home and everything worked out perfectly. The facilities are clean and nice and the locals were super friendly. This is the Bald Head ferry terminal so be aware that it will be running during your stay. It was a little noisy but no biggie.

Nice Marina, 2015-07-01
Captain: , Traverse City, Mi (281)

Spent a night here on June 29, 2015. Excellent communication by the dock master and assistance tying up. We came it at low tide and had 6.5 feet at the dock (we draw 6.5 feet), but it was soft mud, so not a problem. Nice pool and a pleasant bike ride into Southport.

C-Soul June 2015, 2015-06-16
Captain: , Dillon (163)

This is a great stop! Got 4 stars only because there are no restaurant/bars nearby. Very economical, great laundry, pool, and showers. Staff great and friendly regulars!

Nice Stop., 2015-06-09
Captain: , Sunbury, Ga (352)

Pool, clean restrooms, free pumpout, free laundry. Plus you get to watch the ferry come and go.

WONDERFULL, 2015-04-08
Captain: , Alabama (172)

Great marina, friendly staff. Walk or bike to town, several shops and restaurants

Nice stopover, 2015-02-20
Captain: , Summerlin, NV (350)

We enjoyed this stopover. Marina was large and clean, and the dockmaster was a joy to deal with. He even loaned us his personal vehicle to make a grocery run. We were going to ride our bikes but he encouraged us to be lazy and take his car - which we gladly did. Nice touch to have the free laundry, and the pool is large and cooling on a hot day. As for the ferry boats, you can feel the surge but we really enjoyed watching them come and go. A gret stay!

Excellent marina, 2014-11-22
Captain: , Bristol, RI (766)

Left the boat here a month. Nice people (both staff and cruisers). You do notice the ferry coming and going but I wasn't bothered by wake. The docks are in great shape and the protection is very good.

See the ActiveCaptain listing for cYc (Carolina Yacht Care). They provide rides as well as watching your boat.

Good stopping point, 2014-11-17
Captain: , Kingston, NY (190)

Staff was on the dock waiting when we arrived. The staff was very pleasant and made us feel welcomed. The marina has good rates and free laundry. The facilities are a little small, but are well kept. The marina is located next to the ferry terminal and the ferry does create some motion for boats docked. There is beach access next to the marina and it is a short distance to town. They have a service that will take you to town for a small fee. Would stop again.

Disappointed, 2014-09-07
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (160)

August 2014 %u2013 We have stayed at Deep Point Marina several months of each year over the last four years. In my opinion, it appears as if Management/Owner(s) do not care about their customers. Deep Point is the Marina where the Bald Head Island Ferry picks up and drops off the people who are going to or coming from Bald Head Island. This last time we were at Deep Point, the rocking from the ferry was the worst. I have captained vessels from 40 feet to 90 feet and I know there is no reason for the person who captains these Ferries to cause the wake they produce every time they come to dock at Deep Point Marina. I cannot call them a Captain. Captains are courteous of other boaters. I along with others have brought this to the attention of management and it seems to fall on deaf ear. If they do talk to the Person who captains the Ferries, it gets even worse. Deep Point Marina was one of the best marinas I had stayed at a few years ago. Nice laundry, pool and clean restrooms. Maybe one day someone will slow down the Ferry captains.

Very nice Marina and a great value., 2014-05-15
Captain: , Miami, Florida (60)

Enclosed basin for protection and great location right off the river. Great service and attention. Transportation can be handled by Carolina Yacht Care at very reasonable rates so the distance to stores is not a problem. Clean, good Wi Fi, pool, nice floating docks.

Almost perfect, 2014-04-09
Captain: , Edmonton (279)

Facilities are new, laundry is free and staff are super. The town is a very easy bike-ride or longish stroll away. The marina is well protected, but the ferries do put up some wake. The only downside is that grocery stores/Walmart are not easily accessible by bike/foot; while they're only 3-4 miles away, the highway out there is busy and has no shoulder.

Glad I stopped here, 2014-01-22
Captain: , New Bern, NC (466)

Decent wide floating docks, Very good staff; they loaned me a car and helped diagnose an engine problem and then arranged for help fixing it. They gave me a break on the sllip fees because of the breakdown. The ferry was polite with the horn, I didn't have a problem with it and the ferry came in slow as to avoid rocking the yachts. It was still bumppy at times as the large ships displace so much water that it sometimes feels like I was out in the channel. Free laundry was nice. WiFi worked pretty good. Showers were clean.

Outstanding Marina, 2014-01-21
Captain: , Earth (232)

New and clean facilities, outstanding and helpful staff. Free laundry and one of the staff took us on a trip around town for shopping and to get lunch at a local Vietnamese restaurant.

We advise that when navigating into the inlet be aware of strong current coming from north or south, it will push you sidewise on the approach. Also be aware of ferry traffic on the hour

Very Nice 8 January 2014, 2014-01-10
Captain: , Green Cove Springs, FL (270)

Hard to add much to the previous reviews. Easy access from the river. Staff very helpful getting us tied up and set for the night. Curtis gave us a ride into town, showed us what was available and dropped us off at Loco Jo's. Highly recommend this small bar and restaurant.

We were prepared to pay for a ride back to the marina but we met a couple that keeps their boat at Deep Point and they offered us a ride.

Will certainly return on our return trip.

Deep Point rina Great Spot, 2014-01-08
Captain: , South River Maryland (10)

Bald head iand ferry runs in here (small wake) and is a little ways from Southport but staff is fantastic and faciities are great. Ferry noie minimal, otherwise quiet. Use the very comfortable ferry waiting room if it is cold. Hank at Carolina Yacht Care (see brochure in marina office) will take you into Southport, give you the tour, take you by hardware, grocery, whatever stores, as wll as restaurants in Southport. Took freinds of ours home for Christmas dinner. Wonderful guy, great service. Do call Hank and do stay st Deep Point even though it's not right in toe\wn. Great place to stage fot the Cape Fear passage.

Friendly Staff, a little rolly, 2014-01-04
Captain: , Stuart FL (805)

14 October 2012
With Friendly staff, free laundry $1.14/ft. w/Boat US discount and $5 50 amp service there is not much to not like about this marina. We were here for just one night so did not try to get to Southport which is not too far away away. The ferrys do come in often and one does get wave action which is noticable but for us it was not enough to keep us from ruling out this marina in the future.

There is a nice pool, which we did not take advantage of and pets are welcome. Also there is a path to the beach for those that want to walk on the sand.

Came in by chance, 2014-01-02
Captain: , Warwick RI (40)

We had intended to go to Southport Marina but they were closed New Years eve and day. We hailed Doug here and are very glad we docked here. Free laundry was a blessing as our on board unit died.

They are at the Bald Head Island ferry terminal but we were not bothered by the hourly ferrys. Southport is a couple mile walk but we enjoy the excercise.

We did go to the convenient a few blocks out of town and were surprised Nona and Bob insisted on giving us a ride back to the marina. The joys of southern small town hospitality : )

Great, but remote, 2013-12-06
Captain: , United States (2355)

We, too, took advantage of the three-nights-for-price-of-two special on top of the MTOA/BoatUS discount. We had planned on two nights, but could not resist "free" even though it meant an extra 45 minutes to the Atlantic over our planned stop at Bald Head.

Marina facilities were modern and well kept and the staff was friendly and helpful. The BHI ferry does make a bit of a swell through the whole basin, but it did not bother us much and it stops at 10pm.

The only thing keeping me from granting the last star is that it is near absolutley nothing, other than the BHI ferry. We have motor scooters aboard and so were able to get around town, but most cruisers will be stuck paying the $12 or so for a ride to town. There is a snack bar in the ferry terminal, but it is seasonal and was closed on our visit.

I did not see any dry-stack operation as referenced by a previous review.

Good Spot to Stop and Rest, 2013-11-26
Captain: , Whitby (370)

We stayed here 3 nights in late November, 2013. They gave us a buy-2-nights and get a third night free discount on top of BoatUS discount.
Contrary to previous reports, depth was not a problem. The lowest I saw was 8 feet at low tide.
The staff were very friendly and most helpful. Town and shopping is some miles distant, but we were loaned a vehicle by a staff member. No charge, but we contributed some gas to the tank.
Town was good. Go to "Locals" for breakfast. Awesome!
Facility clean and well kept. Diesel was a bit expensive.

Deep Point Marina and Yacht Club, 2013-10-23
Captain: , Manalapan, N (107)

Formally known as Pelican Point Marina this is an alternative to Southport Marina. We would stay here again. That having been said, it is in no way a yacht club; it's primarily a marina that stacks boats for daily use. The ferry created a bit of a wake on the face dock and their horn blasts were a bit annoying. Staff were helpful and very friendly. Nothing near by but a taxi will take you the 2 miles into Southport.

cheap dockage, 2013-07-14
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (654)

there was some confusion we had reservation at Indigo when we called Deep Point answered seems one company manages the tree marinas in the area. Deep Point can be noisy and a bit choppy with the ferry coming and goin on the hour but at $1.25 we managed

Great marina!, 2013-06-24
Captain: , Nashville (315)

We decided to stay an extra night in Southport and rather than stay on the dock at Provisions again, we opted for Deep Point so we could do some laundry, plug in, get showers, etc. Unfortunately it was rainy, so we didn't really get to take advantage of the pool, but the marina was immaculate, Gatlin was extremely friendly and welcoming. One of the cleanest marinas I've ever stayed at (if not the cleanest). We met a few liveaboards there and everyone was so nice that we almost contemplated staying there for a month. The only thing that keeps me from giving 5 stars to this marina is the ferry (they run until around 10pm and blow a loud horn when pulling out), but it's really not too bad, and the fact that they didn't have courtesy bicycles to ride into town. We walked to get a few groceries and ended up walking about 8 miles to the nearest market. Other than that, this place was a perfect respite this weekend.

Great stop for us Gatlin & crew very friendly & professional Helped us get fuel filters in town Several liveaboards gave us great info on the area & took us to town for food pickup. Thanks to all.

Great Place, 2013-01-10

'Stardust'was kept at Deep point for six months. We found the marina to be in very good condition.Rob and Jessie were very friendly and helpful. There was a new swimming pool, laundry and shower facility, first class. The marina is very well protected, our boat was in a great place when Sandy came to visit. We would highly recommend this marina. We are planning to be back in June this year 2013.Keep up the good work.Mike and Ety

Water is pretty thin, 2013-01-05
Captain: , Charleston SC (693)

As I write at 20 minutes past low tide We are aground at the gas dock in 5.4 feet of water. I also gounded at the entrance by taking the south jetty a little too close. Advice: approach from the Northeast if possible (the outgoing current can make this hard) and in any case hug the north jetty coming into the channel. The ferrys are not really a problem and the staff is very helpful. We ran iinto old friends here who have been here for several months and they said that they enjoy it very much too.

This is the best!, 2012-12-14
Captain: , Tulsa Oklahoma (22)

First-class marina at bargain rates. New facility with super-clean restrooms and showers (thanks, Richard!), free laundry machines, very nice pool and friendly people. Managers Rob and Jesse go out of their way to make you feel at home and do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable.

Sheltered from Hurricane Sandy, 2012-11-15
Captain: , Portsmouth RI (673)

We stopped in here when it was clear H Sandy was coming up the coast. We were very well sheltered with no surge despite winds in the high 40's. The Marina was very accomodating and a short stop turned into a few weeks. We left Andanzas there while we went back home and everything was well taken care of. The ferry did not bother us despite being on the gas dock right where the ferry comes in.
The only drawback to Deep Point is that there is no provisioning nearby nor restaurants (we walked into Southport - 45 min walk).

Service driven Marina, 2012-10-30
Captain: , New Bern NC (120)

Only planned to do an overnight visit, but it turnrd into a great visit. Rob and Jessee treat you like family. They are there to grab your lines when docking and there again when leaving. The marina community is very friendly...we were invited to caravan out of Cape fear heading South. Deep Point is a "definite visit" on each trip.

Great Staff; well protected; noisy ferry, 2012-07-27
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (231)

We stayed here 6/23/12. The staff was very professional and helpful and the marina is well protected fom wind and wakes. The ferry bothered us. I think it ran until about midnight and started early, around 6AM. The horn blasting was a bit annoying, and the ferry's wake bounced off the dock and slaped along our hull. There are no restaurants nearby although the staff was very kind to offer us a loaner car. If you can handle the ferry noise this is a nice place.

Good Place/Great People, 2012-06-15
Captain: , Somers Point (460)

They gave us a spot on their fuel dock which was a good thing as I needed fuel anyway. Small marina but with very competent and eager dockhands. Pool is nice and their store has limited supplies. The ferry does not make much wake but is rather noisy as it needs to blow its horns all the time including at 6 AM. Very easy in/out with minimal current once you are past the jettys.

Near perfect stop, 2012-06-03
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1081)

Ditto the comments below. Rob and Jesse the dockmasters are great guys, knows their stuff, and could not have been more helpful. The place is spotless with friendly folks. The marina is better protected and easier to get into than the marinas in Southport. The ferry boats cause minimal rocking, almost imperceptible. We came back a few days later and waited out tropical strom Beryl with no problems with good wind protection from the marina. We will be back.

Well protected, 2012-06-01
Captain: , Grand Haven (470)

The winds from the tropical storm had reached 35 MPH and we felt very secure with our four point tie. The staff was helpful, the showers are clean, and the pool was great.
We did have a issue with the taxi from the resturant downtown back to the boat. ( 45 minute wait when they said 10 minutes!! )

Exceptional, 2012-05-30
Captain: , Newport, RI (10)

We stayed here for several months this past winter and spring. Upon arrival our first impression was of an attractive, friendly, well-run and well-maintained marina. Four months later we realized we had been mistaken. This is a truly exceptional marina in absolutely every way. And Rob and Jesse and their staff are the reason.

THIS IS A 10 STAR MARINA, 2012-05-14
Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1523)

The only reason I gave this 5 stars is because that's the limit. Rob, the manager is the most accommodating friendly marina mgr I have ever met. The docks are excellent. The people are very friendly. The rest rooms are spotless. The laundry is not only top shelf, it's FREE! They even have a pool. The only downside is that it is not right downtown, but Rob overcame that for us by loaning us his personal pick up. All that, and the rate is very very reasonable.

Friendliest marina we have ever stayed at, 2012-05-07
Captain: , Winterport, Me. (244)

Rob and Jessie are two of the most accomodating guys you'll ever meet !! They will go out of their way to take care of you. Rob let us use his truck to get a propane refill and go to Walmart. These guys try hard and it showes. The people can make or break a marina, and these guys "make" this one. The live aboard community there will take you right in and make you feel at home. We always stay longer than we plan to. The dockage price is right and so is the fuel. This is real "Southern Hospitality" I can't say enough good about Deep Point Marina and Southport !!

Great Facility and Staff, 2012-03-21
Captain: , Solomons, MD (464)

Happily stayed late so we could fuel and assist with tie up. New clean marina with free laundry. Nice pool although not opened when we came through. If you are an early to bed boater the ferry boats might keep you up, they run till 1130. Didn't notice a wake problem, but they do sound the horn. The captains at least only touch the horn and do not give a full signal. Overall for us a good stop and definately would come back.

the best marina on the east coast, 2012-03-12
Captain: , Flowery Branch, Ga (30)

Clean, and the people are outstanding, and the price was great. We will stay again

Rock and roll, 2012-01-04
Captain: , Wilmington Deleware (330)

Nice facility, but the waking is constant, while they can not controll the pasiing SHIP's wake, Bald Head could controll the VIOLENT wake from the Ferry's entering and leaving the basin but choose not to. We are a top heavy MY hence the title rock and roll.

Deep Point - Safe and Sound, 2011-12-17
Captain: , Gilman, IL (10)

Deep Point Marina, Southport, NC
After pressing south for 3 days through miserable weather off-shore of North Carolina during Mid-August of 2011, we came ashore for food, fuel, and rest. This planned stop was to be for only a couple of days. The first marina we attempted to enter was too shallow; we needed a deep water marina for our 7 foot keel. Upon our arrival to Deep Point Marina, we were met with friendly and courteous staff that answered questions and provided assistance, as needed. After our initial 2-day stay, we discovered a mechanical problem with severe weather bearing down upon us. We stayed. A hurricane developed and then a family emergency occurred that turned the 2-day stop into a 2-month layover.
We cannot express how appreciative we are for the hospitality, kindness, and excellent treatment we received while staying at Deep Point Marina, Southport, NC. The management and staff were always friendly, professional, attentive to our needs, and just plain nice. There really were no strangers in the marina. We were welcomed into the marina %u201Cfamily%u201D by the staff and other boating residents. Long-term-resident slip-holders frequently asked if we wanted a ride to the store, wanted to go out for a meal, or simply wanted to go out to tour the area. During the hurricane, we were taken inland to the home of the harbor master for safe keeping. The list of kind and caring gestures goes on and on. The facilities are excellent, including free laundry, showers, swimming pool, and Wi-Fi. A note here would be the facilities are very new, modern, clean, and everything worked properly.
In short, we were treated professionally, fairly, and with true southern hospitality. We plan to return and we recommend those travelling near Cape Fear and/or the Southport area, seriously consider a visit and stay at Deep Point Marina.

Strong current in but Great Mariina, 2011-11-28
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (86)

We came screaming in at over 9.5 kts SOG had to make a circle and oppose tide to get in entrance. Wonderful Marina. Rob and the gang are very friendly. Showers great. Laundry is a little slow...use the fast cycle.

Nice marina., 2011-11-08

Our second stay. They have pretty much completed everything now. Lovely shower room and bathroom. We were put on the long dock right off the Ferry dock. Very little noise and motion for the size of the ferry. They did not sound the horm before leaving the dock after 7 P.M. Staff is super friendly and helpful.

Happy we stopped., 2011-11-05

We stopped here to visit friends in Southport. The facility is first rate with floating docks, clean showers and restrooms and a free laundry! It's 1.8 miles from town which is esay enough with a bike.

Rob Gandy, the harbormaster and Jesse will make your stay comfortable. Rob even offered to arrange transportation for us (with his truck) if we needed it.

Deep Point Marina - Highly Recommended., 2011-11-02

New, very clean facilities, friendly and helpful staff. Easy to get into and out of. Along the ICW and 20 minutes from offshore. We called them looking for groceries, marine supplies, laundry and showers. They were able to facilitate all of that on very short notice. If you want to go to Bald Head Island, a ferry next door departs on the hour to take you there and there is a grill (Taylor Cuisine) in the ferry house offering light fare (though we didn't get to sample it). I don't think you'll find a more a more accomodating operation.

Great spot, 2011-10-29

Easy access with good depths - 10ft minimum the whole way through. Service was very friendly. Free laundry is great! Clean showers and good wifi signal. Great protection from all winds. Couldn't ask for more.

Deep Point-Easy in/out, 2011-10-28
Captain: , Branford, CT (900)

We stopped on our way south. Very easy in / out. Friendly staff, clean facility. $1.15/foot + $7.50/day for 50 amp. Ferries come and go from 7:00am to midnight, but their wake and noise is not really a bother. As someone else notes, the pic in their ad is the adjacent ferry terminal. They may deserve more stars, but we were only there for 13 hours and didn't get a chance to explore.

What a Gem!, 2011-08-04

What a pleasure to come upon this marina. Rob (Harbormaster) couldn't have been more accomadating and full of pride for the city of Southport. We were only going to stay a day but after listening to Rob explain what was near for us to explore we stayed an extra day to take in the sites of this historic town.
The marina was extremely clean and well managed. No problem getting in off the ICW with a 6' keel. Yes, the Ferry terminal is located next to the marina as someone else mentioned but it didn't bother us in the least. In fact, if you wanted to go over and explore Bald Head Island then I'd say it's a win win!

Great Facilities & Outstanding Hospitality, 2011-06-21
Captain: , Pensacola (429)

We stayed twice as long at Deep Point Marina as we planned and would have stayed longer had our schedule allowed it.

Our initial impression as we docked was very positive and it was maintained throughout our stay. Everyone at the marina was most welcoming and Rob (the dockmaster) especially went out of his way to ensure that all of our needs were met. During the few times that he wasn't there, Jesse was also very accommodating.

The facilities (showers, laundry, pool) are all new and extremely nice. The floating docks have nice long finger piers and there is free cable and wi-fi. The ship store has some basic supplies but is still being stocked.

While the ferry landing is in the same basin, we didn't find it disruptive at all and actually enjoyed watching the arrivals/departures.

It is nice bike ride (with bike lanes) into the historic town of Southport which has a number of shops and restaurants. There is a super walmart a little further through town but there are no bike lanes on that route.

We really enjoyed it at Deep Point Marina and will definitely stay there again.

Be aware - the advertising pictures of this marina are a Ferry Terminal, 2011-05-28
Captain: , Pentwater, MI (415)

1.) Deepwater is not deep. At MLW we bumped and only draw 5'.
2.) Ferry traffic until 11 pm
3.) The advertising photos in the guides are of the Ferry Terminal, NOT the marina.

Won't stay here again.

Great place to stay, 2011-05-09
Captain: , Chicago (270)

We stopped here on our way north and stayed twice as long as we had planned. The facility is new and well cared for, pool is now open, laundry is great, hospitality is warm and welcoming. Dredging was taking place as we were there, we draw 5.5 and had no problems. Internet signal was a little week at the far dock, but good enough for email.

Very nice new marina, 2011-04-22
Captain: , Solomons, MD (1915)

Brand new facilities. Shares basin with ferry to Bald Head Island.
Ships store open; still stocking the shelves. Landscaping added.
Nice long finger piers. Strong NE winds bring a slight swell into basin. Would stop here again.

Deep Point Marina, 2011-04-21

Spent the winter 10/11 at this relatively new marina. Can't say enough good things. Without ground transportation, it is a hike to the town. Dog friendly, courteous staff, all new facilities. Certainly worth a stop!

Best prices and Excellent Service, 2011-04-06
Captain: , Ft. Collins CO (100)

Diesel was $3.39 and slip was $1.13' with Boat US. New marina, beautiful docks, free 24 hour laundry (the BEST) great dock help, and the staff could not be more accomodating. 1 1/2 miles to very quaint town, 2 miles to Walmart with good bike lanes. Rob even loaned us his truck for shopping. Can also walk the outer beach. Strong winds were against the tides making the river ugly, but entering between the breakwaters was easy.

Friendly staff, Great facilities., 2011-03-25

The dredge is in constant operation ans seems like the short wide channel in is being maintained at 10 feet. I came in near low today and had 9 everywhere except where the dredge was reposition to do next. Ships store is now up and riunning and just starting to fill out with supplies.

I sail solo so I end up on t-heads if possible to allow easy exits. Plenty of dock help. Very impressed.
