Additional info:

Very narrow winding approach. If there is a boat coming toward you it is tight so best to make sure you pass outside the marker poles. Other than that it is clearly marked.

Reviews for Dandy Haven Marina

Our family has been using Dandy Haven services for over 20yrs, you will not find better people than Andy and Leslie. In my opinion, you will not find someone more knowledgeable than Andy when it comes to motors. Extremely helpful and plenty of parts on hand. I highly recommend this business.

Andy and Leslie, the owners are extremely helpful. I have been hauling out my 45 foot Viking Sport Fishing boat here for 12 years. A friend of mine brought his sailboat there to have his mast stepped and boat hauled. They did a great job. I do much of the work myself, however when I have had them do repairs the quality is of the highest quality and the prices are very reasonable. I don't think you could find a more ethical marina anyware.

Great yard for do-it-yourself types, 2016-07-27

We hauled our 42 ft sport fish for spring maintenance & bottom painting. Andy was great with the travel lift and blocking her up. Staff helpful if you have some questions or need to get some items ordered. Will be back next haul out.

Best Mercury/Mercruiser Shop You Can Find, 2016-07-08

Most pleasant, cooperative, knowledgable, capable folks you'll ever find. Extremely competent people who will go out of their way to help you. There's nothing about Mercury products they don't know or can't find out. Lesley and Andy Gurkin are top-notch!

I echo what others have said here in recent posts. For years I hauled at a yard in the Little Creek Inlet in Norfolk and still love the place, but when we moved to Hampton, the drive just got to be too much. On the advice of friends, I brought Magic (Catalina 400) here for the first time. Yes, the channel is a bit tricky, but well marked and an hour before high tide we never saw less than 7 1/2' all the way in. Andy (co-owner) treated my boat during the haul as if it were his own. As a clean marina, they even placed a ground cloth under the boat to catch any paint scrapes, etc. that might fall, but that wasn't really necessary since they provide a really nice vaccum orbital sander for the bottom which made that job almost easy. Beyond that, both the yard and outside contractors in the area were totally accessible for advice and assistance. Oh yea, the price is right as well! They loose one star only because they are sooo far away from, well...everything! Having said that, if you are a transient and need to get groceries, etc., they will gladly loan you a car. Off the beaten path a bit, but well worth it.

Very helpful and excellent service, 2015-05-24

I pulled in the Sat of of Memorial Day weekend (2015) to get a pump out, they did this and helped me clear the vent clog. Extremely helpful, knowledgeable and supportive. The channel is narrow but well-marked, two boats passing should do it before you reach the marker poles as they are narrow. There were several vessels much larger than my 28%u2019 in the marina. I came in at low tide showed 5%u2019-6%u2019 all the way in. I highly recommend them.

Quality staff, great service, 2013-10-29

Very accommodating staff will do as much (or as little) as you need, just tell them. Andy (owner/operator) and PeeWee really know what they're doing. A great DIY yard with travel lift. I'm a return customer.

Basic boat yard, 2013-09-22
Captain: , Seaford, VA (1049)

This is your basic boat yard. You can have them do your work, or do it youself. Hampton Marine Services is also located on site for major work as well. (
As a previous poster said, the entrance channel can be very narrow, especially if you have to pass another boat.

Tight entrance channel, but great place to haul out & DIY maintenance, 2012-06-11
Captain: , Gloucester, Va (222)

We hauled our boat out here from Langley last year. The approach can be diffcult as you sail along a shoal / beach immediately to your port side. The staff were nice enough to have a skiff runout to meet me & guide me into the channel, as the current & tide were strong the day I came in for haulout. Good ship store & professional staff. The Yard lent me their vacuum attached sanding equipment making bottom refinishing cleaner & less of a chore. Bathroom is pretty basic, but haulout facilities really shine. Lots of adjacent repair facilities for sail rigging & engine repair assistance. Dandy Haven seem to specialize in big power boat engine repairs, etc. ps. This marina is on the flight path for Langley AFB, so beware that there is noise overhead on a regular basis (mostly a.m.), but a great place to watch F-22 Raptors take off, etc.

QUITE MARINA, 2011-09-12

Basic Working Marina, 2011-05-04
Captain: , Hampton,VA (22)

Owners and staff are helpful and friendly.Quiet and peaceful. Minimal amenities but s.hower are clean.. Tricky and shallow channel, limits traffic. Great for DIY or get it done for you projects. Now if I could find a woodenboat builder nearby....5 stars for fuel and pump-out, but then it wouldn't be as quiet and peaceful.

DIY repairs, 2011-03-30

9/2010 Hauled out spent 53 days doing my own work. They were very helpful in explaining how to do repairs I had not done before.
Quiet peaceful place to do your own work.

Off the beaten path, but friendly, 2009-09-26
Captain: , Block Island (1679)

Stopped here once for an overnight and emergency supplies. My 40'er was a little bigger than most of the boats in there, but they were very accomodating and loaned me a car to get to town. Call them ahead for advise about the marked entrance channel. We had no problem with a 4.5' draft all the way in.
