Reviews for DEC Fisheries Docks

This is a wonderful free facility and a great educational opportunity for boaters calling into Cape Vincent.
The restrooms are awesome and all the stores are close at hand.
One pet peeve...... for years we have seen many boaters failing to take up a proper dock position, i.e. by docking at the end of the dock and tying their dinks up astern, they void anyone else docking in there, when several other boats could fit in.
Please, if you are reading this and are heading into this particular set of docks, please show courtesy to your fellow boaters by moving to the shoreside of the dock, to allow late arriving boats the opportunity to also dock and if you have a dink in tow, please stow it properly so that other boaters can access the docks. Thank you in advance, for all of us!

GREAT STOP, 2015-06-30

We arrived here the weekend of the 1812 War reenactments so the town dock was filled with tall ships. Fortunately, the DEC dock was available. There is room here for roughly 4 cruisers, 2 on each dock. The sign welcomes boaters with a 48 hr. limit. The fixed dock was very secure and there was some minor wake activity, but nonething bothersome. Ther are 2 heads and showers available just past the gzebo. The heads were not spotless but the showers were. No power or water, but for the price it can't be beat.

Great place to dock for free for 48 hrs, showers and bathrooms are usually clean well stocked with tp and soap. There is a great liqour store (Bob) who goes out of his way to accomodate his customers with discounts on booze for boaters. The marina next door sells fuel but not reliable hours. 5 minute walk into town for groceries and entertainment including good places to eat. There is a farmers market every weekend through boating season and a border services building to check in open until 8 pm.

We stayed for two nights and enjoyed this quaint little town. Free dock, showers and bathrooms. The town amenities were only a sort walk away.

Nice free stop, 2013-09-02

We tied up here after trying the city dock but the way the sailboats were spaced out we couldn't get in. This has deep water and room for several boats on either side. There are restaurants, grocery store and liquor store nearby. I had a propane tank refilled at Anchor Marina next door. You do get waked by anyone going by inside the breakwater. Restrooms and showers here during business hours.

Nice dock w/ limitations, 2013-06-25
Captain: , Winter Garden, Fl (2153)

Very secure Free dock in great condition with plenty of water depth. Very nice town w/ grocery, liquor stores and nice restaurants. However, try to get one of the spots on the east side of the docks...we tied up on the west side (only spot left) and were subjected to all waves and wakes from the river. The prevailing winds are in a direct line from the west end - opening - of the breakwater to the west side of this dock.

On of my all time favourite docks. Free washrooms, showers and FREE dockage.

A short walk to Albury's grocery store with its great meat counter, there is also a walkin beer frig, a great spot to hang out on a hot day.

There is a liquour store a short walk away with a great selection of wine.

The town of Cape Vincent has a French Festival in July. Great parades and fireworks at night.

Still the best deal on the river, 2012-07-15
Captain: , Toronto, ON (1729)

This is a town that really welcomes cruisers. Everything is close by, the folks are friendly and the price at the DEC dock can't be beat (FREE). There are better washrooms and showers here than at many marinas charging $1.85 a foot.

Beautiful area, 2011-08-03
Captain: , Galena, MD (1826)

Plenty of dock space but does get crowded quickly on holidays and weekends. Passing commercial vessels can rock you especially if on the west dock. Also, the prevailing west wind can also be bothersome if above 10knts.
Clean restrooms and showers, picnic tables and nice area to spread out a blanket and picnic on the grass. Liquor store and market within a block and nice coffee shop and restaurants nearby.

Like Cape Vincent a lot, 2011-06-09
Captain: , Blighsburgh (205)

Nice character to this village, handy to services from this tieup. This free dock is good UNLESS the wind comes from the North, then if you are on the east side of the dock or even inside on the finger docks you are going to take a pounding. The seawall here does not have ends on it so it can't stop swell from the lake or river and there's enough fetch that it can get mighty uncomfortable if it's blowing over 15 for any length of time.

Great Spot to Tie Up, 2011-02-22
Captain: , Kingston, ON (455)

Dockage is on a first come, first served basis. Week-end are busy, so if possible, get there early Friday or on a week-day. DO NOT tie up on the inside. This space is reserved for the Fisheries vessel. There are clean restrooms and showers on site.
Cape Vincent has retained it's charm. It reminds my of a town that is stuck in the 50's.
All your provisioning needs are within a short walking distance.

secure dockage, 2008-09-13
Captain: , placida,fl (330)

Easy tie up. Huge cleats. be sure to tie up on outside. Large scientific trawler has center dockage. Close to town and grocery shopping.
DEC aquarium on grounds. Very interesting
