Reviews for Conanicut Marina Services
Great Way to Visit Newport, 2017-09-14
Captain: , Madison, CT (90)

I agree with all the other reviews -- great docks, staff, nice little town. But I think what reallly makes this a great destination is the ferry to Newport. It lets you avoid all the craziness and expense of competing with the superyachts in Newport Harbor, but you get the same experience as they do. Our captain took us out of the way to see a half-dozen 12 meters racing, and it was a great sight.

Easy Mooring at Night, 2017-08-02
Captain: , Vienna, VA (32)

We were going to be arriving around 3am in Narragansett Bay from our offshore sail up from Cape May. I reserved a mooring online via Dockwa and then talked to the staff by phone about how to locate the mooring ball at night. They made a special effort to give me a ball right on the channel and added a red pick-up stick so it was easily identifiable. So we were able to get moored without incident at 3:30am - and then woke up in the beautiful Jamestown harbor.

The launch operators were friendly and seemed to be constantly working the field.

Captain: , Mt. Sinai, NY (253)

As always a great stop over! Mooring field can have a bit of a roll during the day, but calms down in the evening.

End of Season, 2016-10-16
Captain: , Old Saybrook (10)

The marina, docks and dock master were great. End of the season so not much going on.

Newport Boat Show, 2016-09-21
Captain: , Cold Spring Harbor, NY (12)

Nice low key marina, in a good location for restaurants and shops etc. We did spend one sleepless night when NE wind blew waves against our stern all night long. Dog loved it too.

2 day stay Newport Boatshow, 2016-09-19
Captain: , Shelter Island, NY 11965 (10)

Nice professional team and great location. Highly recommended. However ending the launch at 9 pm the weekend of the Newport Boat show is a deterrent to future stays. This early time (10 pm would be fine) makes it very difficult to attend the boat show and go for a nice dinner in need to push it to 10 pm on the boat show weekends. Thanks for listening to feedback shared by several other boaters we met.

TomCat at Connaicut Marina, 2016-09-19
Captain: , Fall River (30)

Extermely helpful getting in even with rough weather and sea. The entire staff is genuinely concerned about your enjoying you visit from docking to helping get set up in the slip with power water breast lines etc. We have been there several times and ALWAYS an outstanding expereince in a fabulous location

Recent Stay, 2016-09-06
Captain: , Tiverton, RI (20)

I have used Conanicut moorings twice this summer and cannot say enough regarding how hospitable and professional they are. Everything from their quick communications, to the cleanliness of the facilities and awesome launch service not to mention easy access to fuel docks was top notch. Easy walking access to shore amenities, restaurants and the additional free shuttle service to markets and other parts of the island are a real plus. They receive my highest recommendation.
Do bear in mind that the harbor is busy and fairly well lite from shore lights as opposed to Dutch Harbor on the west side of the island but ready access to sailing in around Newport is a real bonus. We had wanted to stay two nights but tropical storm Hermine cut short those plans. We will be back for sure!

Kat's pause, 2016-08-24
Captain: , Shelter Island (10)

Easy to raise on radio; help w/ docking; good location; decent facilities; would have liked to be able to swim nearby. But very nice for a marina experience which we do not do often.

great get away, 2016-08-23
Captain: , Allen Harbor (10)

Arrived for an overnight get a way which included staying the next day on our mooring. The Harbor Master, and staff were very accomodating. The Launch service ran as advertised with good hours of operation. Very friendly. Resturants, stores etc within walking distance. Highly recommend this Marina for your stay.

mooring with launch service, 2016-08-23
Captain: , Rowayton (10)

easy stay with good launch service, everyone helpful

Mooring field, 2016-08-22
Captain: , Chepachet (10)

Very easy to navigate the mooring field, staff was very friendly. The mooring in open to boat traffic and is subject to constant wave action making it difficult to get a good nights sleep. Don't let this stop you though. Easy shuttle ride to Newport.

Rolling in the Deep Moorings, 2016-08-16
Captain: , Warwick, RI, USA (72)

8/14/16 - 43' trawler, 2 nights on a mooring = $126. We enjoy Conanicut Marina several times a season. PROS: We have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. There is a great dinghy dock right next to for ice cream and Chopmist Charlie's restaurant for dinner. Great grass areas next to dinghy dock for walking your pets. Beautiful views of Newport Pell Bridge. You can call rather than be forced to use the online mooring reservation system. CONS: Parking is limited. Newport Ferry & launch boats move @ wake speed through the mooring field.

A Great Summer Stop Over, 2016-08-15
Captain: , Riverside RI (10)

Every summer my wife and I plan a weekend in Jamestown. We always stay at a slip at Conanicut Marina. Conanicut is located right in the heart of the activity in Jamestown. This past weekend Conanicut was chock-a-block full but they found us a spot at near the fuel dock and extended power over to us. Great customer service! Thanks! See you next summer.

Jamestown , 2016-08-14

Courteous and friendly service. Launch runs till 11 summer weekends. Great restaurants in town

Two days at Conanicut Marina, 2016-08-14
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (10)

Facilities were very good. Dock line handlers at the main dock and the gas dock need more training in how to tie up and control boats that are docking.

A boat vacation, 2016-08-06
Captain: , Striper Marina Barrington (10)

Spent a week in Jamestown including parts of every day on the boat. Making reservations with Dockwa was incredibly easy and the people at Conanicut Marina were awesome - very helpful. Marina was great - easy layout and had all the amenities. Highly recommend Dockwa and Conanicut Marina.

Everything great - except wifi!, 2016-08-06
Captain: , Stamford, CT (10)

Stayed 3 nights. Dock employees are great! Facilities are also very good except new wifi setup is not good at all. Don't have to continually search for an "open" link at any other marina. Signal strength was poor to non-existent once we got on.

excellent service, harbor is a little bumpy, 2016-08-05
Captain: , Chesapeake YC, Shady SIde, MD (101)

Great staff support from the initial confirmaion of my Dockwa reservation to immediate response from my VHF hailing. Happeened to be there on a typically pretty breezy SW 15-20+ evening so there were a lot of opposing winds, current, and reflected wave action. Woke up in the moring to the boat facing north (outgoing tide) but the winds from the back of the boat, not something I see very often in the Chesapeake. One of the more bumpy nights on a mooring but they are more widely spaced than most mooring fields in this area. Very responsive launch drivers, no fender marks on my hull with these guys. I'd return if the wind forecast was below 20 knots.

stay at the marina 2 days, 2016-08-05
Captain: , Newport (10)

Excellent facility and environment.

Very Bumpy , 2016-07-31
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (40)

Staff was professional. Outside floating dock was very bumpy due to high boat traffic. Calmed down at night. Nice town. Eat at Simpatico.

Great marina, 2016-07-30
Captain: , Park City, UT (10)

No complaints. Nice showers, prompt launch. What's not to like

Very convenient to avoid Newport craziness, 2016-07-30
Captain: , Westbrook, CT (40)

Just across from Newport, ( served by a regular ferry service) this marina has highly skilled dock hands and floating docks. Good restaurants in town. This was our second time here and we plan to return.

Perfect stay, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Edgartown, MA (40)

I cannot think of anything that I would change

Excellent marina and staff, 2016-07-27
Captain: , East Hampton, NY (10)

Top notch facility. Showers and bathrooms are clean and comfortable. Staff is friendly and accommodating, providing free shuttle service to nearby services (laundry, grocery store, etc.) and free launch service to moorings. Quiet place, just across the bay from Newport but far enough for peace & quiet.

Docks and facilities first rate., 2016-07-27
Captain: , Norwalk CT (10)

Easy to get to, staff very helpful, great views. Loved Jamestown and the ferry to Newport.

Beautiful setting, so-so marina, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Sands Point, NY (20)

No protection from harbor surge, boats rock and roll at dock. Heads are only fair. Dock boys knew little about how to tie up boat and I had to plug in electric when they couldn't figure it out. But docks are in good shape, space available, reservation well handled by dockwa, and love Jamestown. Bustling marina with ferry to Newport and mooring launches going in and out. Overall, adequate and would definitely return.

Great place, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Warwick, RI (10)

We have grabbed a mooring at Conanicut Marina many times. They are always very helpful and friendly!

Always a pleasant stay!, 2016-07-27
Captain: , Old Lyme (10)

Great place to stay with easy access to Newport.

Lack of responsiveness, 2016-07-26
Captain: , Essex, CT (30)

My wife and I have come Conanicut for many years and have found the Marina and Jamestown to be a delighful place to cruise, with exception of this year. On 25 July 2016 we arrived at Conanicut Marina at 1200 for a mooring we had reserved. We were put on C-1, shut the engine down, had lunch, and were sitting on the back deck. About an hour later a sailboat on the next mooring swung around and hit my dinghy mounted on davits.
I tried to push it away with a docking pole and could not, so I started the engine and was able to just clear the other boat. If I were not on my boat, a considerable amount of damage would have occured. A launch boat was near by and called for help. The marina send out a large rib with a 200 hp motor that was able to pull the sailboat away, we released our morning and after the rib manuvered around the morings, he directed me to another mooring - D3.
Apparently the mooring chains wrap around the cement block and cause the boat to not float free - causing a collision.
I asked the driver to check my dinghy and he said it was scratched. I asked him to send someone out to assess it and "Bill" came out, confirmed the scratch and said it would be best to take the dinghy ashore. He said I would have to arrance the work with the service manager, Kevin Green, as he did not have permission to work without authority.
I called Mr. Green's office and received a recording. I outlined the problem and asked him to return the call. I made multiple calls over the afternoon - no answer, so took the launch in and visited his office. He was not there, but a lady said she would put a note on his desk so he could not miss it. By 5:00PM I had heard nothing, so wrote him an email and called again about 6:30 pm. No response.
26 July
8:30 am called and left another message. 30 minutes later he called and said they could probably take care it that day and that it was estimated to take four hours! This is a small scratch that with a small brush and paint should take 30 minutes, but I told him it was painted Awlcraft Forest Green. He said he would have to order it and do the job in the morning.
I said since it was the marina's mooring problem, I assumed they would be responsible for the charges. He said he had talked with the owner, Mr. Munger, and he recommended I go through my insurance company!! This made no sense for a scratch repair plus the insurance deductable would never cover four hours of work! I asked him to re-check with the owner. He said he would. We hung up at 9:20 am.
Bottom line: The office personal are very nice, the launch driver responsive, and the lady who took the note for Green was very helpful, but the lack of response from Kevin Green says a great deal about the management of the marina from a customer responsiveness. Four stars for the other folks and 1-star for the service management and owner.
I finially called the owner at 1:45 pm. Explained the situation to his wife and she said he would call me. He did later and appologized! Too late - I needed to depart the next moring!

A Professional Outfit, 2016-06-19
Captain: , Wickford, RI (560)

quick to answer the VHF with clear instructions, very clean baths/showers, very good launch service; just a well run outfit. Reviews below about the town and mooring field are spot on.

Slice of Heaven for Breakfast, 2014-09-03
Captain: , Hingham, MA (317)

Well run, efficient launch service. Well maintained pendants on the mooring. Launch runs till 11 p.m. with last call at 10:45. That left enough time to eat at the oyster bar and amble across the street to Narragansett Cafe for live music. Breakfast at Slice of Heaven matches the name - stand in line, make your order, and the food comes out to you. California omelet was spicy with homemade guacamole. Naragansett Cafe puts on a decent omelet as well. Current and wind are often at odds, and there is a fair amount of traffic, but that same traffic comes out to sail in droves, and there is nothing quite like having Newport in your sights. Launch driver suggested nearby Potter's Cove for a respite from the wind and waves. Head north, under Jamestown Newport bridge and drop a hook and go for a swim!

Good night's stay, 2014-09-01
Captain: , Edgewood RI (73)

We stayed overnight on a mooring south of their channel markers. Moorings are well organized and the two launch drivers seemed to cover the large area well.

Like others say, it's rocking here with wakes in the mayhem that is lower Gansett Bay in summer. It was glass by the time we got back from dinner.

Nice dinner in town at Fish, and topped it off with a leisurely ice cream right near the docks. Extra bonus was watching the America's Cup yacht Columbia (US-16) come into dock here.

Nice staff, junk for WiFi.

Great spot in Jamestown (away from Newport), 2014-07-27
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (380)

Conanicut is a gret place to stay if you want to be in Jamestown and not Newport (which defintely is my choice). It's a big marina, lots of moorings, very competent and friendly staff, good showers/restrooms, and very convenient to both downtown Jamestown (which is a delight) and to the Newport ferry when you want to cross.

Laundry is in town, but they have a shuttle. Wifi is added expense and completely dysfunctional . Other than that, no complaints.

More rolly than ancipated, 2013-08-16
Captain: , Red Brook Harbor, Ma. (216)

The marina and mooring situation is great. Staff is very helpful. The launch does its best but has a lot of ground to cover so you may need to be patient.
The previous feedback is all correct on the effect of various wind but this is just adjacent to Newport and a major thoroughfare. The constant wakes make this a much rollier situation that stated. It does calm down quickly around dusk however.

Great spot away from the hustle and bustle of Newport, 2013-08-11
Captain: , Wickford RI (70)

The marina has very nice facilities, a helpful and friendly staff, solid docks, convenient services, and a near perfect location. Others have commented on the rolly mooring field, and can be. I'm usually in a slip, and it's usually manageable. On my most recent visit, though, they put me on the outside of the concrete T dock. Though I was held off the dock by a keep-off mooring and line, it was pretty rocky, even into the wee hours of the morning. I'd avoid the oustide dock if you at all can.

Great Stop!, 2013-08-04
Captain: , Sag Harbor, NY (637)

We stayed here for 2 nights in the end of July, 2013. The docks are older, but in reasonably good shape, the bath and shower facillity at the head of the dock are clean. The lack of any dock hands on arrival proved to be a minor problem, but we were assisted by one of our fellow boaters. Help arrived after we were tied up and did assist with water, electric and a pump out. They were very accomodating in providing us with transportation to golf (nice 9 hole public course about 1 mile away) and laundry. There are several restaurants a short walk from the marina. We had an excellent meal at Fish and found the deli on the corner of Narragansett Ave. to be a good spot for breakfast. The WiFi connection was problematic, but Andrea was very helpful with overcomming the difficulty. The ferry from the marina to Newport is very convenient and provides access to all Newport has to offer.

Beautiful Location, 2013-07-24
Captain: , Boston, Ma (161)

Clean showers and bathrooms at the foot of the dock. Beautiful island mostly populated with vacationers. Laundramat is a good walk, about 0.5 miles, and is right next to the supermarket. This marina is in a great location next to Narragansett Ave which seems to be the center of the island with 4 or 5 restaurants and about as many shops, including a marine supply store. (Although, they did not carry a replacement CO2 cartridge for my West Marine PFD). Bring bikes if you can and take a ride to Beaver Tail to visit the light house museum.

A respite on at the end of a week's vacation, 2013-03-24
Captain: , Barrington, RI (183)

Our mooring experience was fine, conditions were such that we didn't experience the rolling others have reported. Incredible bridge views day and night, great dinner ashore at simpatico's. dock staff had difficulty directing us to the proper mooring, and it took 3 times to answer the radio, but we'll be back for sure on the strength of the overall scenic location.

Spend Time Off the Boat, 2012-08-04
Captain: , Stuart, FL (1019)

Moorings get pretty rolly during the day due to the openness of the mooring field and boat traffic. Looked like a lot of the boats in the marina were rocking too. However, there's lots to do in Jamestown and across the bay in Newport. We took the ferry over and enjoyed a relaxed ride and tour of the incredibly busy harbor.

Conanicut Marine is efficient, clean, and well-managed. Restrooms and showers are nice. The launch service (included in the $54/night fee) is prompt and courteous.

Had a good meal at Trattoria Simpatico. Yoga studio about three blocks away and nice market a few blocks beyond that.

Nice marina, 2012-07-05
Captain: , Hingham, MA (1079)

This marina is very quiet and easy access compared to Newport. Very clean restrooms. Everything is within walking distance. We stayed on a slip early May 2011 when moving our newly purchased boat from Warwick, RI to Hingham, MA. Overall a nice quiet marina.

Great alternative to Newport with easy access, 2012-06-18
Captain: , Macatawa Michigan (1144)

Stayed here because the hectic Newport scene, while fun at times, was not what we were looking for after hours of steep 4-5' seas. Moored on a guest mooring. Pendants are dual and long, made it easy to tie on with our high trawler bow. We did roll even with relatively light SE winds the second day. Launch service was fast and friendly. They helped with our numerous bags of recycling destined for their containers right in the marina parking area. Newer harbor master building with clean and newer bathrooms. We found all the staff to be friendly and welcoming. Summer season busy. Easy walk to town. Great sunny Sunday afternoon meal at Simpaticos. Great outdoor seating. Easy ferry ride to Newport with early morning and late night service. Very good stay.

Great Marina with Great Service, 2012-06-12
Captain: , New Bern, NC (65)

We have stayed here many times and the service has always been great. Very clean restrooms and showers. We have had no problem bringing our dog with us and the launch was very helpfull.
For a $18 fee you can board the Newport ferry which loads at the launch dock and runs late on weekends. We like it because we can leave our boat in an easy in and easy out marina and still enjoy all that Newport has to offer without their very crowded harbor. Went to the Newport Boat show this way.
As has been mentioned the moorings can be a little rolly if wind is from the SE or a passing ship uses the ship channel.

Would give 5 stars if less rolly on mooring, 2012-05-31
Captain: , Warwick, RI (145)

Like others have said the moorings are rolly. We stayed one night. They had very prompt response via channel 71 when we arrived and provided good verbal instructions to find our mooring. The launch service was prompt and the Captain very friendly. The Sunday Brunch at the Bay Voyage Inn is very good, we had a deck table with a nice view toward the water. The Inn is a short walk north along the beach.

Great town, 2012-01-14
Captain: , Narragansett Bay, RI (446)

Very nice spot to stop for a day or two or longer. All of Jamestown is essentially within one block. Several great restraurants. Sympaticos is the best. Ice cream at Spinnakers. Boutique gourmet food shop. They have a ferry to run you across to Newport, so you can have the best of both worlds. The dockmaster isn't very friendly, nor are the dock hands the most helpful, but they are okay. It isn't well run, but you won't feel unwelcome either. The only real downside there is exposure to high winds from the east, which will put some serious fetch into the marina and mooring fields. These are uncommon during the summer, as prevailing is southwest, but can happen during storms.

Nice people good service, 2011-10-17
Captain: , north kingstown (341)

Yeah it can be rolly but the launch will get you back .. even in pea soup fog...Nice clean restrooms... good docks

A great stop in fair weather, 2011-09-11
Captain: , Byram, CT (708)

I would echo all the positives and negatives of other reviewers, but would emphasize the positives. This is a great stop.

As for the people who say it can be rough -- all you need to do is look at the chart to see it is exposed to the east. This is not the place to be in bad weather that has an easterly component to the wind. In that case go to Newport or Dutch Harbor, or any of the smaller town harbors north of this spot in Narragansett Bay (or even Point Judith/Galilee if you'd rather be south).

Pricey but nice, 2011-08-14
Captain: , Stony Point, NY (852)

We have been here a few times on both dock and mooring. Excellent service including the ride to the laundry and supermarket. The dock is very expensive, but the docks are wide and clean, and we have always seen some interesting boats tied up here.

The Bistro up the street has fine dining (this time fresh striped bass) and weekend live music. Several cute shops to browse.

Nice views but rolly, 2011-08-05
Captain: , Milford (530)

the admiral wanted shore power and water after a few days of cruising so we took a slip at over $200. the docks are old but clean and everyone on staff is quite friendly. We did not use the heads or showers but the water and shore power worked fine. Also bought diesel fuel and it was reasonable.

what was obnoxious was the fact that the Jamestown ferry and the launches running to the moorings steamed at 10=12 kts while in the marina and mooring field. It was one of the rolliest places places - yet we weren't anchored!

Jamestown is very cute, but suffers terrible vacancy in the commercial district. We loved walking the town, and the view of the bridge and Newport was breathtaking at all hours. Still, we are not likely to return to a slip or mooring given the horrible rolling from the marina crew boats.

Walk to all services, 2011-08-01
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (1381)

"Slice of Heaven" for breakfast and dinner. Dogs welcome in outdoor, shaded, seating area.

Laundry and well-stocked grocery store within walking distance. Marina van will also drop you off and pick you up.

Well stocked ship's store.

Conanicut is a great way to see Newport if you can't get a mooring or find a anchoring spot on the Newport side of the bay.

Jamestown cruise, 2011-07-14
Captain: , Padanaram,S.Dartmouth,MA (20)

We were on a mooring with 36' sailboat. Uncomfortably rolly at all times. Good launch service and showers. Town is small but couple of good restaurants. Ferry to Newport but pricey at $18/person.

Very Enjoyable, 2011-05-01
Captain: , Deep River, CT (251)

We have stayed in a slip a few times. The facilites have always been clean/excellent. Very nice town to walk around. The locals at the Fire House Museum all seem to have stories to share.

We Like Jamestown, 2009-09-22
Captain: , Greenport, NY (437)

A very welcoming marina with great view of the bridge. The best prat of the marina is the close proximity to town.

Cananicut Marina Mooring field, 2009-07-17
Captain: , marion (112)

Terribly rolly from boat wakes and just about any Wx

Nice Marina, 2008-02-10
Captain: , Mount Sinai, NY (6)

We have stayed at Conanicut Marina on 2 occasions, both times on a mooring. Helpful friendly staff. They have a launch service. Clean bathrooms.

Lots of water depth, you can rock and roll at times when the wind is up.

The marina has a ships store in town on the main street. Store is very well stocked.

Jamestown is nice to walk around, they have some restuarants and bars. They have a well stocked hardware store.
