Reviews for Columbia Yacht Club
Fantastic friendly club, 2016-08-23

Stayed here 6 days while doing the loop. Tim, the marina manager, took our reservations and was on the dock to greet us and help us tie up. We are not members of a reciprocating yacht club but they allow AGLCA members to dock there. Tim made us feel very welcome as did the members. The first evening, two members happened by and we chatted for a while because they were interested in doing the loop. Well, they invited us to dinner at their expense at the club restaurant- talk about hospitality! We ate several times at the club restaurant and the food was excellent. Tim and the dockhands made a point of checking with us from time to time to see if we needed anything and would greet us by first name. What a contrast with many of the marinas where they don't even help you dock! The location is great for sightseeing. Very secure - to get on the docks, someone has to go through the clubhouse which is an old ship. Docks sturdy and easy approach. Only negative is that it is rolly if a strong south wind. We had plenty of fenders from having been through locks so this was not a major issue.

We just joined the club mainly so we can have another place in the city to dock the boat during the day. The food at the club has exceeded our expectations and the members we have met have been extremely nice and welcoming. Nick is the GA and goes out of his way to try to get to know all the members. It is an active club of sailors and power boaters. Mostly sailors. The history of the ship is fascinating and the staff goes over and beyond to meet your needs. The atmosphere in the club is casual and definitely not stuffy. Very comfortable docking the boat and going inside with shorts and flip flops for a delicious dinner. Location is ideal for watching fireworks, the Tall Ships parade, Venetian night and the recent America's Cup. Join! You'll love it.

Unique experience, 2015-09-29

We loved the Columbia Yacht Club. Spent three nights there. Wind shifted in the middle of the night on 3rd night to SE, so we moved boat around to leeward side of dock at 3am. Better than being bashed. They allow members of AGLCA to stay and use dining room and bar. We had four meals (breakfast, 2 lunch/brunch, and dinner.) The food was Fabulous and very reasonable. Beef Wellington, oysters Rockefeller, eggs Benedict, clam chowder, Parmesan truffle fries,....all wonderful! The location is ideal. Walking distance to Mariano's grocery, architectural river tours, Navy Pier, art museum, etc.... The club house is an old Canadian ferry/ice breaker that carried train cars, automobiles, and people to P.E.I. You will not want to sleep, but spend all day and night looking at Chicago. Yacht club members were very friendly. One couple took my mother to church with them! Loved this place. Unique!

Good food and view, 2015-05-14
Captain: , St Louis (270)

Excellent restaurant and bar, but you must be a member of a reciprocating yacht club to gain entry. The pricing is reasonable, about average for Chicago.
Good place to dock, but watch for southerly winds or you can moor in Monroe and have a tender drop you off at Columbia.
Within walking distance of Navy Pier and a grocery store. Staff is very nice and helpful.

Great place very accomodating

Great location and skyline views, 2012-09-17
Captain: , Spring Lake, MI (379)

We stayed 3 nights on the dock wall and had electric and non-potable water. There are clean restrooms, a bar and restaurant. Easy 1-2 mi walk to most all of central Chicago attractions. The WiFi is secure (advantage) but signals vary around the dock. Views are the best of DuSable or Chicago Yacht Club. Cost was $2.50/ft for AGLCA and you must be a member of a reciprocating yacht club.

Very Dangerous, 2011-09-03
Captain: , Slidell, LA (10)

Docks are very dangerous in SE winds. A Looper sustained damage, losing all of their port side handrail 8.30.2011. Staff is friendly but does not make up for exposure. Check winds before deciding on this marina!

Overnight Stay, 2011-08-25
Captain: , Milwaukee, WI (146)

Fantastic location! Dock staff are the best! Transcient face-dock space is high and exposed to wind/waves from NE thru S. Spent two rough nights banging the dock. Club house (boat) booked for a wedding so bar/restaurant not available to guests.

Location, location, location!!!

Located aboard a floating ex-ice breaker, Columbia has the perfect location to visit all the downtown attractions Chicago has to offer, and then are many. Nice place to tie-up, have lunch, then walk over to Navy Pier for the afternoon. Return for a cocktail in the bar or first-class meal in the dining room. Make sure you get a tour of the bridge, the view is great. My wife and I love to stop here as they recipricate with our yacht club. A+ service, facilities, and staff. And did I mention the view :-)
