Reviews for Coinjock Marina
To much hype, there is better., 2017-08-31
Captain: , St Croix usvi (61)

Unfortuntly this was a highly inticapated first stop among 6 differnt marinas for us, and due to all of our friends that raved about the prime rib, we were totaly looking forward to this first stop. Note the prime rib was amazing and is the only reason for 3 stars... The dock master wasn't the most friendly and not very helpful when we told him that we could not dock because of a bow rider and with only 20' of space for a 43' SV it just wasnt possible. We made space behind a big trawler and was told that was for a mega yacht that was expected to come in later that night. Well I had reservations to, so we stayed there and he had to move the bow rider him self, which later that night the mega yacht did arrive and the bow rider was gone, no problems docking for them at all. The mosquitoes were horible and the worst I had ever seen, way worst then the Florida Keys. Our kids were tore up. The service wait staff both in the resturant and later that night in the bar were some of the most unfriendly people we had meet on our passage south. A total buzz kill that night at the bar. The showers were nice, but not the best path way and for the price being charged the place has a lot of improvments that need to be made. Unfortuntly due to its location unless you choose to anchor, its the only real option. The place could be a lot better, and because of its famous prime rib which was good, they dont care, its either them or go anchor. Which if there is a next time I will pass this place and choose to anchor.

Absolutetly Here to Please the Boater, 2017-08-23
Captain: , Oriental, NC (190)

05/17/17 Great dock hands. Dock in great condition. Restaurant is first class. North Landing Bridge broke down again and boats had to return all the the way to Coinjock. Although they were already almost filled they did their absolute best to accomodate everyone. Now the weather is going to turn nasty and it looks like this will be home for several days. Great place to be if you have to be somewhere. Highly recommend scheduling a stop even if you can make Norfolk. Update: Stayed here again 08/15 while delivring boat to Portsmouth. Great place to sit in the restaurant during thunderstorm enjoying prime rib!

wonderful people. !, 2017-08-21
Captain: , Whitesboro tx. (90)

I can't say enough about Coinjock, and I've never met them.
July 5th we were crossing Albermarle sound N/B. A few miles into the ICW on the north side of the sound I had a major heart attack. My wife Prudi, got on the radio and asked for help. Coinjock responded. Prudi told them she was not good at docking the boat, and That I was conscious but incoherent .Coinjock said no worries, and immediately sent a boat out to meet us. One man jumped aboard and took us into the dock where an ambulance was already waiting. They were so helpful to Prudi while I was in the hospital in Norfolk recuperating from my 5 bypasses. I hope to thank them in person soon.
Thanks to all at Coinjock who assisted us!

Convenient stop after crossing the Albemarle sound., 2017-07-02
Captain: , Little River SC (586)

Easy dockage on long facedock and good fuel prices. The prime rib was ok, I've had better.

Great ICW Stop, 2017-06-11
Captain: , Georgetown, MD (372)

A great stop right on the ICW, very accomodating staff, nice store, and the prime rib is a must do! Make sure you make reservations for the prime rib dinner as they could run out.

Great Stop, 2017-06-11
Captain: , Hull, MA (580)

Elan, Cohasset, MA
Nice long dock with plenty of experienced, friendly, dock hands. Great restaurant -- prime rib a must! Clean rest rooms. Didn't get fuel.

Convenient Stop, 2017-06-03
Captain: , San Diego (300)

Not a lot here. 3 dockhands tied us up quickly. No smiles. No welcome. Just business. When I gave one of them a tip all of a sudden he became friendlier. Made reservation on Dockwa so didn't have to pay but stopped into the office to check in anyway. All the office guy said was, "you already paid you're all set." I asked if there was wifi or bathrooms. He told me the wifi code and said bathrooms are always open. We discovered the laundry room on our own. Dock is one long face dock where boats are lined up pretty tightly to one another. At least we didn't have to raft like we were told we might have to do. Ate at the restaurant and the food was good not great. We didn't have the prime rib since we don't eat meat but the homemade potato chips were good and a nice touch. We left early the next morning before dockhands had arrived for the day. Mileage wise this was a good stop just not a lot there.

As advertised , 2017-06-03
Captain: , Ft Lauderdale (221)

Great stopover point running north or south. Easy face dock / good dock staff and excellent prime rib as noted by most every review. Going north calc your timing for Great Bridge opening which is on the top of hour only. We found about 2 hours 50 minutes to first bridge at +\- 9 kts which gets you staged to run without much waiting through Great Bridge bridge and lock

Best marina in the world, maybe the universe, 2017-06-02
Captain: , East Coast, USA (310)

Expert and friendly dockhands (JD, JW and Louis), fun bar with homemade chips, great restaurant with fresh fish and prime rib (1 or 2 lb), and a well stocked store. Get a Coinjock tee shirt.

Comfortable Marina overnight, 2017-06-02
Captain: , Oriental, NC (110)

What a dependable marina. We always enjoy staying here. The dock crew helps in the tie up so that they can get as many boats tied side to as possible. The restuarant is very popular. If you want to sit outside at this time of year you need a reservation. Fuel is Valvtech and easily loaded onto boats anywhere along the long dock.

Great Marina, 2017-05-29
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (160)

Stopped overnight from trip to Pamiclo and Albemarle Sounds. Two helpful dockhands, nice marina store, clean baths and laundry. Great restaurant- be sure to make reservations as soon as you can, especially on weekends. Great prime rib- about the best you can get.

Glad we stopped here, 2017-05-26
Captain: , Campbell Creek, NC (564)

4/20/17 Reviews and reputation are spot on. Easy to walk the dog. Excellent dock hands who do it all for you. Prime Rib great, but the Homemade Potato Chips are excellent!

A Family Run Must Stop, 2017-05-22
Captain: , Bristol, RI (350)

Who doesn't love Coinjock? We always make sure to call a few days ahead. We don't want to miss this fun stop. The office staff is very professional and will accommodate you with anything you need. When we were there, boats needed to raft to fit everyone in. Dockstaff were available for every boat to assure safe landings and no damaging of boats. The way they bring so many boats in is amazing. Lots of practice. The restrooms and showers are clean. The little convenience store has most items you may be out of. The restaurant staff is efficient and cordial. Our waitress, Crystal, was very attentive. I told her I could tell she really enjoyed her job. We enjoy meeting and greeting people in Coinjock. It really is a happy place.

Great stop over, 2017-05-20
Captain: , Grass Valley, CA (320)

May 16, 2017 - Wecome stop after leaving Belhaven.. And yes the prime rib is worth it. Fuel was $2.04 for 456 gallons.

We stayed on the overflow dock, and added fuel in the morning after everyone had pulled out. For north bound travellers get your timing right to hit the first bridge on the hour, if you can do 9-10kts or better you will make the half hour opening on the next bridge.

And keep an eye out for tugs and barges, they are wide and not a lot of room on the sides. At the railroad bridge and big bridge we met two of them.

Really pleasant stop, great dock staff, 2017-05-12
Captain: , Dunedin, FL (7375)

Review from May 2014: everything below still applies

Review from October 2015: Lots of help coming in, follow dock hands instructions. They try to squeeze in as many boats as possible into shortest distance. Fuel available in most spots. Docks & pilings in good condition. Good restaurant on site, but no breakfast. Lots of area to walk your dog.

Good Stop after a hard day!, 2017-05-05
Captain: , Punta Gorda, Fl (960)

After crossing Albemarle Sound, Coinjock is a welcome sight! There is one very long fixed dock for side tie. The wind driven current can be very strong. The marina folks are very knowledgable about docking, helpful and friendly. Fuel is at your slip. Bathrooms are adequate. Restaurant on sight and very good. A good stop!
April 2017--another positive stop for us. Bath very nice and new.
restaurant on sight always good. great music on patio

Nice Stopover, 2017-05-05
Captain: , Boston (227)

We stopped here 5/3/17. Docking staff was awesome. Almost like a production line. Starting from the north, boats are docked close bow to stern. As boats arrive 2 deck hands handle lines and bring you forward so there's no wasted space. After tying and setting fenders they asked if we needed fuel. The whole dock is really one big fuel dock with pumps and hoses every 50-100'. While we are fueling the next boat came in and the process repeats it's self. Very efficient. Restaurant just ok, but other choices are none. Nice marine store and staff. Nice Stopover

a must stop, 2017-04-28
Captain: , Somers Point, NJ (230)

Everyone says you need to stop here and I have to agree. Easy access, lots of good help, clean facilities, nice fuel price break if you buy +100 gallons. Go to the restaurant and have the prime ribs - best ever
Stopped again on our way back north and they didn't disappoint. They were completely full but handled everyone promptly and professionally. They have this down pat.

Great Prime Rib, 2017-04-24

Stayed one night. Nice facility, great people. Good dock and WiFi, but the 32oz prime rib was the deal maker

3/16/2017 Stayed here for a couple days wiating out the WX. Great Food and and friendly folks. And Of course the FLYSWATTER!

Fabulous place to stop at!, 2017-02-15
Captain: , Fair Haven, NY (100)

This was our first stop on our way South. Norman was there waiting to help us dock and get us situated. Great provisions store. Hot nice showers and a great restaurant to relax at. Will definitely stay there again.

Nice facility but high grocery prices, 2016-12-15
Captain: , Magnolia (130)

We stayed here for a night on the way south. Staff was friendly, but grocery prices are high, we paid $60 for two bags of groceries. No other grocery stores around, though, make sure you are stocked up before you get there.

Prime Rib Stop Over, 2016-12-11
Captain: , Miami Beach, FL (210)

Friendly and helpful staff with a small store with some local items. Don't miss the restaurant! We stopped in the off season and there was plenty of room on the dock for everyone without rafting... although it was a weekday and cold and raining.

Mixed feelings, 2016-11-27
Captain: , Port Colborne (70)

Many have told us to stop here so we planned it. Easy to get in, plenty of water and as others have said the dock hands know what they are doing. Other than the restaurant there is not much around. I felt everything was a little overpriced. We paid 12$ for a half gallon of milk and a loaf of bread and they charge 11$ for a pump out and 1.75$ a foot I find a little steep for this kind of stop. we didn't go to the restaurant so I can't comment on it.

Overflow dock, 2016-11-13
Captain: , Annapolis,MD (90)

We were put on the overflow dock due to numerous reservation, however received the same treatment as though we were right out front. JB and Norman were big help and my steak was cooked perfectly.

Great marina & restaurant , 2016-11-11
Captain: , Massapequa,NY (1176)

Great marina & the dock hands really know how to tie up a boat intelligently & quickly. Awesome prime rib in the restaurant.

Captain: , Colonial Beach, VA (650)

Best of the best. Good service, facilites and a nice restaurant with great food. We stayed two nights enjoying every minute. The are boaters who helped with plans for moving along the waterway also.

Great Attention, 2016-11-06
Captain: , Seabrook, TX (286)

Moving boat south, very good stop for restaurant. You must call ahead to make reservations if you want prime rib. Entire face dock was full with boats ratted to others, two deep. Not much else in the area, only good for one night stop. Showers, bathrooms and laundry were. all clean

Oasis at just the right spot, 2016-10-31
Captain: , Cape Canaveral (1191)

We always look forward to stopping here. The dock hands are the best ever, know their business, and are very quick and helpful. The restuarant has great prime rib and good drinks. Quiet night tied up and easy out in the morning north or southbound.

Well deserved good reputation!, 2016-10-23
Captain: , North Palm Beach, FL (490)

Came by here Mothers Day, 5/8/2016, and we had a great night. I had flowers sent ahead and the staff took good care of them. Prime Rib better than ever. Our whole experience gets better every time we stop.

easy stop for singlehander, 2016-10-14
Captain: , Westport CT (554)

First time stopping here and the previous reviews are all spot on...very easy in&out with good dock hands....fuel at any spot and at a good price.

Had the famous prime rib and it lived up to its reputation.

Will stop here again.

Laughter on 08/28/16, 2016-08-29
Captain: , Burns Harbor Indiana (881)

We had hoped to anchor before reaching Coinjock Marina but the anchorages were filled with crab pots and really lumpy with the NNE winds. Our first stay at Coinjock and enjoyed it. With the long dock it's easy on and easy off. JD was super friendly and helpful. We did not eat at the restaurant but menu looked good and reasonable. Also did not use showers and toilets so cannot comment on them. Marina store has good selection of items. The only reason I would give it a 4 and not 5 is that I strongly feel it is more expensive than it should be.

Fuel cost quote over phone., 2016-08-29
Captain: , ruskin (10)

Caution, dockmaster office quoting diesel fuel price before taxes. Still a 5 because of the prime rib however.

WOW! Best Prime Rib in a long time, 2016-08-15
Captain: , Forest Lake, MN (80)

Our first stop here. Easy to dock, very helpful staff, restaurant was great - many items to chose from. Definitely plan to come back.

Great stop easy access, 2016-07-31
Captain: , Sanford, Fl. (887)

This is a really great marina. Easy docking at well maintained docks. Excellent restaurant with a very good menu. Friendly helpful staff. This is our first time stopping here but we will be back! We deicded to stay here a week and rent a car. Rentals come from Elizabeth City and pick you up. That allowed us to see all of the Outer Banks including all 4 Lighthouses. With trips to Manteo and Okracoke. Free Ferry to Okracoke! Recommend that you call ahead for rental reservations. It took 2 days for a car to be available.

Back and forth = Back and forth, 2016-07-07
Captain: , Savannah, GA (330)

This marina is always on our agenda when we run the ditch. I've been stopping here for years as a yacht delivery captain and now as a full time motoryacht cruiser. The dockhands are always available and all dockage is side tie. This marina ALWAYS for years had the best diesel prices in N.C. but not anymore. On the other hand, the restaurant located here is still one of the best places for the yachtsman and family to "Fill up". Strongly suggest you check the "fuel list" on Active Captain if you need to take on large quanities of fuel.

Great Stop, 2016-07-05
Captain: , Dauphin Island, AL (162)

Great place to stop and refuel.. Dockside crews most helpful and Competent . Resturant outstanding..... Enjoyed the visit guys.

Good jumping off or coming in spot for the NC sounds, 2016-06-06
Captain: , Ft. Lauderdale (1244)

June 2016. A welcome stop after an unpleasant day on the Sounds. Restaurant is always good.

October 2015. Still the same convenient place to stop. Helpful folks and always busy during migration season. Be sure to call ahead for reservations. Likewise if you want roast beef at the restaurant.

Jume 2015
A welcome sight for northbounders after a long day in the NC Sounds. Be sure to reserve your slab of roast beef upon arrival. Docks full most nights during the fall and spring migrations, so best to call ahead.

NC tax laws must have eliminated the price advantage Coinjock had on fuel. It is now less expensive in VA. Still the mairina is an excellent place to stop. The long face dock makes docking and undocking easy even with the current. Restaurant's famous roast beef is a good as ever. Friendly, competent staff make it a pleasure to visit.

Must Stop Here for a great experience, 2016-05-26
Captain: , Racine Wisconsin (161)

We heard about COINJOCK all the way back in our home port on Lake Michigan and then from many folks along the way. " You have to go to COINJOCK for the prime rib. We pulled in and were welcomed by the owner. They fueled us right there with Valvetec treated diesel at a great price. It's a fun place to be because all of the boats are occupied with cruisers unlike many marinas.

We went into the restaurant to enjoy the world famous prime rib.
We ordered a bottle of the house cab to go with our meal.

We sat at the bar and enjoyed meeting many other cruisers.
We Stayed well past closing time.

Update 5/16 - Not so "Prime" this time, 2016-05-19
Captain: , Longboat Key, FL (1089)

Update 5/16 - As far as the dockage, facilities and professional staff go, nothing much has changed since my previosu reviews. This is a well run and well managed facility. However .... the restaurant fare needs some attention. I wouldn't normally be critical of the food, but since they are "known" for their prime rib, you would expect it to be really good -- and this time, it wasn't. In fact, it was not "prime" by any standard. Overcooked (i ordered it medium), a lot of grizzle and fat, and very dry. Time to step it up Coinjock and get back to being "known" for good quality steaks and seafood.

Update 5/13 - OK, so there's not much to do here except dock for the night, get fuel, pump out, grab some provisions at the well stocked ship's store, and of course, order their famous (and huge) prime rib for dinner. And the staff is competent, friendly and helpful.

Oct 2011 - It's been a couple of years since I have stopped here running the ICW, but once again, Coinjock proves a great place to stop. Easy fueling and pump out at dock, a ships store that has just about anything you might need, and a restaurant that is tops along the waterway. While know for their prime rib (which is excellent), my favorite is the homemade "crab chips". Does anything taste better with an ice cold beer?

Good Marina/Dissappointing restaurant, 2016-05-16
Captain: , East Falmouth, MA (1643)

I wouldn't normally write a restaurant review on AC but since all the other reviews mentioned it I think its appropiate. First, let me say the marina is good. The dock hands are courteous and very helpful, the rest rooms are clean and the docks are well maintained. The restaurant was clean and the service was good, BUT, the prime rib which I was looking forward to was terrible. The 32 ozs. consisted of about 16 ozs. of fat and grizzell. I should have sent it back when I saw it but I didn't realize how bad it was until I saw 2 other diners with the most beautiful pices of prime rib which looked lean and perfectly roasted compared to the piece I had. $50.00 plus sides, what a waste of money. When I pointed the waste that was left on my plate to the waitress she acted surprised, but offered us a free dessert. My friends and I are very dissappointed. After contacting the owner he apologised for the poor quality and offered to make it right. I retrospect, I should have contacted him first and given him the opportunity to make it right befre I wrote this review.

Nice surprise, 2016-05-12
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (31)

Our first great surprise was that, after not being able to get a pump out in Oriental, our next hope was Coinjock. They told us their pump was out of order! We were almost there, and tired, so we just stopped. !st thing, they told us they were working on the pump problem ( guess it was really the hose). They fashioned a different hose from who knows what, but who cares, and gave us a pump out the minute we arrived! Great, friendly and resourceful!!
2nd surprise was the restaurant. We've been by this way several times, but never ate at the restuaruant thinkning it probably wasn't that good. Ha! It was great ( no pirme rib for us though, we are lighter eaters)! We vowed to eat there more!

You have to love this place, 2016-05-07
Captain: , Annapolis MD (476)

Arrived expecting nothing more than a dock, left thinking this was just a wonderful place. Terrific dockhands, fun store with lots of branded and humorous merchandise plus convenience store staples, and best of all a restaurant that puts out surprisingly good food when they don't really need to given the captive audience. Fresh, home-made potato chips, good drinks, quality seafood and desserts and, yes, the famous and huge prime rib. Very good effort from a place that otherwise has a monopoly and doesn't need to be as good as it is.

Restaurant has very good service and food., 2016-04-22
Captain: , Chicago, Racine, Fish Creek,Wi (3189)

Dockage was $1.75' on April 9,2015. Friendly staff and small store on site. Five of us went to the restaurant on site which had a good selection of food choises and good dessert selection. Food was excellent. Fixed docks but water level does not change to much. Easy docking on long dock parallel to channel.
4 21 2016 strong current but docking assistance was excellent. Lots of nice friendly people here.

Maximizes what it has, 2016-04-18
Captain: , King George (107)

Dock hands and marina staff are great. They helped us with everything we needed. The reasturant food was very good and service was on par.

Great dock hands, 2016-04-13
Captain: , Oxford, MD (810)

For many of us, Coinjock is an annual ritual transiting the ICW. In season, as mentioned, they do fill up and the dock hands do an amazing job getting everyone lined up cheek to jowl without drama or mishap. The entire staff (including the restaurant) are friendly and helpful. The docks are in great condition and there is good WiFI. We will keep coming!

Update: on my wish list: Privacy when dressing. When entering the head, there is a window to the outside and the door opens directly to a view of the dressing area outside the shower stalls. There is no privacy outside of the actual shower stall.

Nothing Fancy Here, 2015-12-16
Captain: , Hampton, Virginia (289)

Stayed overnight on our way south on December 6th. As others have said there isn't much to the place, but it gets the job done. Helpful staff, good restaurant, and easy access for a stop between Beaufort and Norfolk.

very professional, 2015-11-19
Captain: , annapolis, MD (120)

The Coinjock Marina is well kown and the somewhat captive choice of many ICW travelers. The marina staff are friendly and skilled. What is not to like?

Authentic!, 2015-11-19
Captain: , Hobe Sound, Florida (480)

If this marina weren't in North Carolina, it would be advertised as "Old Florida" but it's not. What it is, is proof of the adage: "Location, Location and Location" because it's in the middle of nowhere half way to anywhere. But theses folks have it down - 1200 feet of linear dockage, pump out and fuel at your boat and a busy restaurant and bar serving "reserve early" prime rib every night. Can't imagine passing it by without stopping.

October 22,2015

As always a grea tstop. W earrived early so got a choice spot at the southern end of thedock. Easy in -easy out. Our cat loved the quiet. Restaurant was very good.

October 21, 2014

Excellent excellent stop. Great dock staff - very experienced. We arrived early afternoon and were put at the north end of the dock with our stern hanging over by about 10 feet. Louis gave us a stern line tied to a tree. We were early enough to watch the other boats dock and how they pack them in real tight. Because we wer last we had an easy out in the morning. Restaurant excellent also = as always.

May 8, 2014

Arrived 4-5 PM due to strong winds and current against us all day. Several boats arriving very close together. The dock staff dealt with everybody very calmly and got all the boats secured fairly quickly. Ate in restaurant - very good as always. Easy out in morning since boatsbehind us moved out earlier. Good stop on the ICW. Store has interesting t-shirts. Buy new ones nearly every visit.

October 21, 2013 - Another great experience. Easy docking and easy out in the morning. Restaurant still very good. Friendly and experienced dock staff. People who stop there all know the ropes and help eah other off in the morning. Starting to see boats we have met before. Also fun to see how things are going with other boaters.

May 11, 2013 -Another excellent experience. Easy docking and undocking even though the docks were full. Dockstaff is very experienced and friendly. Restaurant is excellent- great food and great service even though very busy.

October 2012 another excellent experience. Easy docking at the north end of the dock made for an easy early morning departure. The food at the restarurant was excellent. They are known for their prime rib but the shrimp is also verygood.

May 2012 - another experience delivered as expected. Easy docking with good staff. A good meal at the restaurant. Neighborly boaters helped us off the dock since we were packed so tight (inches apart) and they were not leaving until later.

We were at Coinjock Marina on 10/19/2011. As always they are very efficient in docking boats. They pack them in and waste no space on their dock. There restaturant is excellent - specialty is prime rib. They had to send boats to Midway marina they were at capacity but Midway has not restaurant. So the owner went over in his boat to ferry people to his restauant and back to their boats. Very good business.

Great folks and easy access, 2015-11-09

We stopped on the way south to Brunswick, GA. We arrived a little after dark and the staff was on the dock helping everyone get tied up. Easy dockside fuel and pumpout. We'll stop here agian.

They Pack Em In, 2015-11-02
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (1234)

Helpful and proficient dockhands get you onto the face dock w/no drama - but they do indeed pack them in.

Showers and facilities are clean.

The restaurant and prime rib were great - make sure to make reservations ahead of time.

One improvement would be establishing a pet litter pickup policy - we have a dog and always pickup. Was not pleasant to find 3 "land mines" in one day.

10-30-2015 Great dock staff fit you right in along their one very long dock. Laundry is clean and fast. Convenience-looking store carries a little bit of everything you might need from the usual "Coinjock T-shirts to rum pecans, wine and beer, convenience items.

Stopped again in October 2015. It's just about the perfect place to get across the Albermarle and through the entire Alligator River. We actually got to the bottom at 2 pm so we continued on and made it through the Pungo-Alligator Canal.

Coinjock continues to be comfortable and friendly. You just can't skip the restaurant right there too.

Previous review:
Back again in October 2014. The dock was quite filled - glad we had a reservation although they are allowing rafting. Nice bar and restaurant. It's always a great place to stop.

Previous review:
Another spring, another stop at Coinjock. It's just all so easy - they're pro's that way - they make it a great experience.

One thing that's new is that there are dockhands present in the mornings to help depart. That's really nice when things are tight - and they were 100% filled the night we were there (make sure to start marking reservations here). That's a great example of how management here listens to the boaters coming through.

We'll be back...

Previous review:
Well known Coinjock Marina is the place to be. The facilities are great. The dockhands are experts. The restaurant is as good as ever.

In past years, we stopped coming to Coinjock. The attention was all on megayachts and huge sportfish boats taking truckloads of fuel. When we came here for the first time in 2003, there were even two sets of docks - one for the high end boats and one where we got tied up. Skip forward 9 years and things have changed. Now the entire huge facedock is the same. Every spot can get fuel (good fuel too - they pump so much that they buy it every day to refill the marina tanks). But most noticeably, it's the attitude. All boats are treated the same and it shows.

So if you were turned off years ago, give Coinjock another shot. We saw more sailboats at the dock this year than we can remember - always a good sign.

Go for the prime rib, 2015-10-22
Captain: , Long Island, NY (204)

There are only two choices in this area. Decent restaurant for prime rib, which they are known for. Well kept dock, very helpful dockhands. Very competitive fuel prices. $2 per foot, $7 for electric for transients. A bit steep in my opinion. Small store on premises, not much else in walking distance. Docking along face wall, fills up in season with some boats rafted out.

Great stop, 2015-10-10
Captain: , Castalia NC (110)

We were only able to stop for a few minutes, but got refreshments and supplies. Limited store, but heard the resturant was great. Lots of people stop and is a must go!

Nice place to stop - nice restaurant - easy side tie, 2015-08-08
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (201)

1000' feet of dockage. Very friendly staff. Good restaurant (order the prime rib and make sure to reserve it when you get there). Paper towels in the men's room would be nice (there aren't any). There isn't much to do beyond what's at the marina. Spacers in the docking to allow electrical cords and hoses to lie flat with the dock surface are a smart idea.

Great Stop & Experience, 2015-06-02

May 21,2015
After getting beat up by Ablemarle Sound, we were real happy to reach Coinjock. We've heard about their prime rib dinner since south Carolina. Dock hands were on their game and got us tied up and settled in quickly. Staff was very knowledgable of the local waters and weather conditions and provided good advice for our next days travel.

Will stop again.

These people understand customer service. Promptly answered radio even though two boats were in line ahead of me. They called me back once the others were safely docked, and then expertly got me in, fueled, connected electric, and secured to the dock. Went to their restaurant for dinner and found it to be excellent as well. Outstanding service at every level. Clean restrooms with lots of hot water.

We stayed here on May 17 & 18, 2015 and found the staff very helpful and friendly. Their Wifi was great until they moved us to the south end of the dock. The restaurant has great food and service was excellent. Only suggestion is to clean the laundry room more often and spray for mosquitos. The washroom/showers are well maintained and clean.

Captain: , New York (262)

I was told to make sure I stop here on my trip north and I'm glad I did
Staff was the most professional I saw in the entire 1300 mile trip up north. Got in early and the place looked empty. By the time we went to dinner the place was packed.
The prime rib lived up to the hype but make sure you call ahead and reserve one. My wife and I couldn't finish the 32oz we shared.

only stop and worth it, 2015-04-01
Captain: , South Portland, Maine (847)

this marina has fixed docks so set your fenders accordingly. The restaurant on site serves great food and the staff at the dock is more than helpful. Showers are hot and clean. This will always be a great stop for us going north or south. Approaching from Albemarle it is imperative to watch your course and STAY IN THE CHANNEL. There are numerous areas of shoaling on the bends, do not cut the corners.

The best (and only viable stop between Albemarle Sound and top of Curituck Sound, 2015-03-25
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (666)

Viable does not do justice. This is our second stop. Dock staff are very good. Fueling is easy as is pumpout. Showers are large and modern. Boats transiting this area honor the no-wake signs.

The Restaurant is excellent, one of the best we have encountered. In spite of the fact that their location makes them a near must stop for fuel or to rest, they do not take advantage of the fact. Good facility, good folks, great restaurant.

Not just prime rib!, 2014-11-14
Captain: , Solomons Island Md (417)

We took advantage of the great fuel prices. It%u2019s such an easy place to fuel. The set up allows you to fuel at almost all dock locations. The big surprise was the meal at the restaurant. We heard about the Prime Rib but that wasn%u2019t for us that night. We had the fried seafood platter and the fried chicken. What a surprise! Both meals were excellent, one of the better fried platters we have had.

Coinjock Restaurant, 2014-11-11
Captain: , Marblehead (162)

Sorry to be the fly in the ointment. We heard great stories about Coinjock and the Prime Rib. We stopped there, and the reality was somewhat less than the pent-up expectations. yes, the dockhands were professional and curteous, but... The spring water bought in the store was over $7 for a gallon, the peanuts in shells were a little stale, and the prime rib was luke warm. Granted, it was mid day, and we did get a discount because of the less than perfect prime rib. So that's it.

Good ole reliable Coinjock, 2014-11-05
Captain: , Roseland, NJ (332)

Our sixth year of cruising and here we are again at Coinjock Marina. After the bridge hassles of the day it's always great to pull over, plug in and chill out at Coinjock. We had called ahead to see about getting a repair on our new bilge pump and our dock hand said he called Ken as we were approaching the dock to tell him we were here. As arranged, Ken from Yacht Doc showed up near 5:00 pm (really) and quickly diagnosed the problem. Reasonable charge accompanied by a good sense of humor., out of Manteo.

Something of a tradition, and tradition deserves five stars, 2014-10-19
Captain: , Essex (140)

We were on the early part of the southbound post boatshow armada, which was great since we did not have to fight over the last piece of roast beef. This place clearly has earned its reputation as a funky place to stop well placed before you enter the Currituck Sound. The dock services are excellent with dock hands at the ready, fuel offered on tie-up and the restaurant and facilities only steps away. It is a little like going back in time....when your parents used to drive up to a small diner with outdoor picnic tables and the kids (you) would run around without a care. Once everyone is tied up, say 5:30 - 6:-00 it time to gather in the restaurant. Two rooms, a bar with tables and an expansive dining room banquettes and all. They have a welll designed menu but clearly the rumor is you have the roast beef. Two plate sizes...large 16ozs and really large 32ozs. with various sides. I tell you the rumors are true have the RB. Plus you will have great sandwichs the next day for lunch.
Nothing much more one can say here. Other than it is probably the first place you start to see the same boat names and crew and you need to be polite on the water from here on because you will see them again.

Only North Bound Vessel, 2014-10-03

Stopped for the night as we did th North Carolina loop. Wanted to try the Prime Rib friends said notto miss.
We were one of only two north bound boats on the bulkhead and at 40 ft about the smalllest boat there.
Folks were great and extremely helpful docking. They did just about everything for us.
Only complaint is a lot of insects! They about covered the isenglass in the morning.
Good stopping place and definately good prime rib.

Ultimate in convenience, 2014-09-19
Captain: , Beaufort, NC (290)

this marina is almost a must stop because of the location 50 miles from Norfolk. The marina is actually part of the ICW and the boat traffic will respectfully glide by just feet from your boat. The marina has a reasonable store with simple groceries and marine supplies. Fuel is convenient anywhere along the dock. The shower and laundry facilities are average. The folks who run the marina are wonderful.

Stop for the Food!, 2014-09-17
Captain: , Block Island, RI (984)

We did not stay overnight, but just stopped for the food. My crew had the prime rib and raved just as everyone does. I had the tuna steak special, and it was outstanding. In four months traveling from Long Island Sound to St. Mary's, Georgia, this was one of the best meals of the trip. And it was that much more welcome after a long day coming down from Norfolk. Oh yeah, the beer is great too with a few craft selections on draft. Do not miss this place.

Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (1522)

July 24, 2014. Back again, different yacht. Dock staff, store are the best. Docks great shape. If you are tall, they have steps that you can move to the boat so you don't have to haul out yours. Great thing. Food in restaurant seems to be heading in the wrong direction. This time was not as good as the previous time.

May 13, 2014. This place is like an addiction. Once you start you can't stop. You come back again and again. For newbies heading north... Watch you bridge schedules. The ships store has a great stock of supplies... And the dogs aren't bad either.

Stopped here again on Feb 4,2012. Only 3 boats at the dock, cold, rainy yet the staff was as friendly as if it was boat movement season. Great Food. Prices great. Great Staff. Did I mention the Prime Rib??

Great Prime Rib, 2014-07-06
Captain: , Booth Bay Harbor Maine (424)

6/10/14 Great as always, prime rib fantastic but when ordering I forgot to ask for a center cut. We where served the end cut which I deem inferior. Dockage: 30amp power outlet hanging on by it%u2019s wires so we didn%u2019t use it, saved $7. Water: had a storm blow thru over night and they lost power, the water is from their well, no electric no well pump, no water. No back up power so we left with no water fill up. I should have filled up the tanks the night before but I was more interested in prime rib.

Stayed the night of 5-15-14. The dockhands are knowledgeable here. Put you in within a yard or so of your neighbors, no muss, no fuss. Current strong this day, so they were instructing the Northbound traffic to u-turn for easier docking. Ate at restaurant, good as ever. On departure had an unanticipated man overboard drill when a crew member slipped getting on vessel. Dockhands were there almost before he surfaced, and hoisted him out. No muss, no fuss. As above: real pro's.

Prime Rib WAY overrated, 2013-11-28
Captain: , Iqaluit, NU (10)

The marina facilities are quite acceptable BUT on three seperate occasions I ordered the prime rib (PR) which I dearly enjoy. Tough pieces of meat all. On the last occasion I ordered the Captain's Cut thinking the leftovers would be a good lunch the next day. WRONG! $44 for a piece of meat that was, without exageration, 1/3 fat. Now I fully realise PR should have a goodly amount of fat for flavouring but all of it in one chunk? I don't think so. Marina's fine the PR isn't.

Captain: , Quoset Daviseville Naval Yacht Club (250)

Never changes, good fuel stop, 3.99 for diesel with discount for large quantities.

One long dock and we had to raft up, still charged everyone 2.00 foot even when rafted - does not seem appropriate.

Famous for prime rib, still excellent, reserve you rib in advance during and dock space. One marina on opposite side and they appeared to be rebuilding docks so at some time they could be an alternative.

Decent store with some provisions, docks in good condition, staff very helpful and very skillful in rafting up boats.

Excellent stop at just the right location on the ICW!, 2013-10-21

We always stop here. The docks are easy on and off, the fuel prices competitive and available at each slip, the dock hands professional and helpful, the ship's store good and the outside bar fun in the sun. We had a bad experience at the restaurant in the spring and haven't been back, but maybe we'll give it another chance next year.

There aren't many choices in this stretch of the ICW but the marina is a positive choice not a default option. The facilities are good enough for most folks, probably, passing through and staying only one night. The restaurant seems to be a major plus, having very good food.

The dockhands know their job, but must have all worked on the subway somewhere as they pack them in. (You pay for every foot of space you use from bow pulpit to swim platform) Low fuel prices and a resturant that was second to none. Well stocked ships store. Had taken the Dismal Swamp route going north, but this was faster and easier with a place to relax along the way.

Revisited 4/30/13 and the previous review, below, still holds true. We love this place!

We've stayed at Coinjock Marina on many occasions, and the first thing I always do once tied up is go to the restaurant and order homemade potato chips. Don't miss them!

Management at the marina is great....friendly and helpful and always available. Very responsive on the radio, and always there when you arrive ready to handle your lines. Yes, they do pack you in closely, but it has never been a problem. No current and little wind make it pretty easy to get out even without help.

Showers and laundry are satisfactory. Ships store is well stocked with the necessities. We find the restaurant to be very good....don't miss the chips!

Great place to wait for better weather, watch the current, 2013-04-29
Captain: , Houston TX (349)

Spent a few days at Coinjock last week while the weather was less than desirable. The Alligator Bridge was closed for three of those days due to high north wind which kept the number of boats way down. When the wind turned to the south, the current in the ICW at Coinjock was around 3 knots running north, which made docking for some quite interesting. One 60' power boat tried to use power instead of finesse to get up to the dock and got sideways to the wind and current. Hit the dock so hard it broke the hull to deck joint and did real damage to the boat, the dock was fine. Be sure and call the marina on the radio prior to tying up, they will clue you in on any current and wind issues. Otherwise, food at the restaurant was great and the staff is top notch. Will certainly stop again in the fall.

Captain: , Stafford, VA (1079)

This isn't the best looking place you'll come to, but the staff is very friendly and helpful, they have everything you might need to stock up on, and the restaurant is awesome. Captain: , Charleston SC (743)

Great Prime Rib~, 2012-12-06
Captain: , Hilton Head Island (86)

We were staying across river at the other marina but heard so much about Coinjock Marina Restaurant's prime rib that we just had to try it ourselves. We thought that we would be able to take a long walk over but found out that it was a 3.5 mile walk and at dark on unknown busy roads so we called the restaurant to see if someone could come get us and bring us back. I had called ahead as recommended to reserve the 32 ounce prime rib and I was not disappointed. The first item brought out along with our drinks was a basket of home made chips which was a nice change from a basket of bread. The salad was fresh with homemeade dressing. When the prime rib came out it was on a platter, It was cooked perfectly to a medium rare and was served with au jus and horseradish. We opted to share the meal for a small up charge and received 2 salads and 2 sides, we still have enough left for dinner tonight. We rarely have room for dessert when eating out but after this great meal my wife couldn't pass up the homemade desserts so ordered a slice of black and white cake to take home for breakfast. It was as good as the prime rib! Their house wine was not vey good, I would consider taking a good bottle and paying the corkage fee next time.

Overnight Stop, 2012-11-27
Captain: , Pensacola, FL (695)

Great place for an overnight stop if too late to get through Norfolk Bridges. Nice people and a great restaurant. The prime rib is great but you have to get in a little early or call ahead to let them know you want Prime Rib or they may not have enough. Get the 32 OZ size and you have enough for lunch or dinner the next day. Bath hous eis reason for the 3 stars. Not bad but not the best and only one toilet in male head so have to wait sometime. Very easy to get into and out of. Consist of a single long dock right on the edge of the AICW.

We spent one night here on our way south. We happened to get in early so took advantage of their laundry (two washers, two dryers, $2/load). Nice little convenience store on site with some food products as well as boating products - bought the best praline pecans! My husband wasn't feeling well, so we ordered our prime rib dinner as take-out and ate on the boat - great meal that lived up to its reputation. Friendly folks, convenient stop.

Very nice small marina with fuel and pumpout. Stopped for fuel on the way to New Bern, N.Carolina from Long Island N.Y. Very friendly and good food.

Diesel mechanic to help, 2012-09-28
Captain: , Sydney (313)

When I was pulling out of Coinjock the engine did something naughty and I spent 3 hours doing the electrical connections before I gave in. Rang Ken from MarinePro at midday Saturday and he said no problem to come out on a weekend! Took 1.5 hours at $90 per hour to isolate and fix the problem and there is no way I could have found it.
It really is wonderful to have such a great mechanic where you think you may be stuck for a week.
Kens number is 757 412 7511 and he really did come out on a Saturday afternoon!

Fantastic, 2012-08-07
Captain: , Sarnia (60)

Stayed here on way up north on aug /6/2012. Dockhand JD was fantastic, tying up our boat, pumping us out while we refueled, hooking up electric water and cable.

Ship's store is extemely well stocked for a small marina. I was looking for the Cruising Guide to the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays. They were out of stock, but called ahead to Tidewater Marina in Portsmouth to verify they had one and had them hold it for us. We were out of milk, they had none in the ship's store, but magically 2 quarts arrived from the Restaurant.

The restaurant was also fantastic, Susie our waitress was outstandingly friendly and accomodating. The prime rib as advertised was out of this word.

Highly recommend this, 'where is Coinjock anyways' stop to anyone.

The stop to make the bridges, 2012-07-30
Captain: , Mystic, Ct (279)

We enjoyed Coinjock Marina. The staff was very helpfull on our trip south (7/23/12) and our return trip today. They helped us determine what tlime to leave and beable to make the bridges to Portsmouth.

A classic ICW experience, 2012-07-27
Captain: , Cape Coral, FL (231)

We stayed here on our way up and on our way down the ICW (6/27/12 and 7/26/12). The prime rib is as excellent as advertised. Diesel price is good, and discounted for volume and cash/check. They sell a lot of diesel and have a high volume hose (be careful). The staff is friendly and very helpful, and you can't beat the name (I was told it's an Indian word for mulberry bush). Coinjock is a natural stop for northbound and southbounders. I'd give it a 5-star rating if it wasn't so far out in the boonies. Of course, that's also part of the charm.

Now I know what a Sardine feels like!!, 2012-07-25
Captain: , St Augustine, Fl (480)

This is a nice locatation with friendly staff. my only suggestion would be don't tie everyone up so close. Motor yacht behind me had there bow anchor 1 ft from my dingy and the boat in from was about two feet. We had no problem getting out but a novice could have some anxiety and could cause some damage. the strange part is they had plenty of room down the dock!! If not for the close quarters I would have given them 5 stars.

Great stop!, 2012-07-02
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (200)

This one is all about the easy access.

Excellent Marina and Restaurant, 2012-06-24
Captain: , Norfolk Virginia (481)

Perfect destination or stop for the evening on ICW. Restaurant is superb (reservations recommended in season). Have daily specials but will also advise seafood right off the boat. Had perfectly done fresh scollops. Party of nine, all had something different and each remarked how much they enjoyed. Dock hands attentive, helpful. Yes, this is location where you can purchase the truly famous "Bone Sucking Sauce" line of products (anyone can do Old Bay but the best galleys don't get underway without).

Moored Too Close, 2012-06-19
Captain: , Palm Coast, FL (10)

We advised we wanted to leave at six in the morning and were corcerned we had heard that boats were moored very tightly. No problem were were told. My Wife insisted on ten foot separation at the bow. Later they moored a boat two feet from our swim step, making leaving very awkward. Will not stay here again.

Well run marina, 2012-06-17
Captain: , Marco Island, FL (1145)

This place is amazing - they have boats from stern to bow the entire length of the dock. They bring the fuel and pump out to your boat. Great prices on fuel with discounts for gallons and cash. The restaurant is also fun - live music on Fridays.

Poor reception, 2012-06-13
Captain: , Grand Haven (470)

I had hoped to relax and watch a little TV, However the reception was very poor and fuzzy--sometimes even the color would go south.
I did enjoy a very tasty steak dinner and a nice warm shower.

Packed In at Coinjock, 2012-06-11
Captain: , punta gorda, fl (1448)

We used to stop here routinely. Good docks, a strategic location, and a very nice restaurant. However, the last time we stopped they packed us in like sardines despite our objections. The boat docked behind us had its bow pulpit and anchor over our stern. And, the much larger (and beamier) boat docked in front of us had its bow overlapping our bow by four or five feet. In effect, the marina was charging several boats for part of the same dock space. We had wanted to depart early the following morning but were delayed three hours until the boat in front of us left. Since that time, we have bypassed Coinjock marina.

Enjoyed the stay, 2012-05-21
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2870)

At 5 kts, there is not much between Alligator River marina and Portsmouth, VA so it is good that Coinjock is a nice place to stop.

You pay for the dock space you take up (they count your anchor and davits, etc.) because they will pack you tight if they need to.

Thae restaurant came highly recommended and most of the food was quite good, with a few misses on some dishes in our party.

Good Place to Stop, 2012-05-13
Captain: , Gulf Shores, AL (30)

I'd affirm all the other positive comments about this marina. Very helpful and knowledgeable dockhands. Excellent restaurant, clean facilities, good store. Very good overnight transient dockage.

Cool Place, Great Marina, 2012-05-05
Captain: , St. Louis, MO (1850)

Really long face dock with plenty of dock hands to get you tied up. They do pack boats in close to each other. When we came in we were the fourth of seven boats coming in. No problem. They respond to radio hails very well. Promptly with thorough information. You don't always get that.

Very good restaurant. Yes the prime rib is terrific.

Not My Favorite Place, 2012-05-04
Captain: , Harrisburg, PA (71)

We end up staying here becuase of the location. Not crazy about the restaurant even though many folks seem to love it. I would rate the staff as OK.

A must stay if traveling the ICW, 2012-05-02
Captain: , Southport NC (50)

Probably the best dock staff of any marina on the ICW. They pack the boats in though. All side ties on a long dock with inches between boats. But you realluy don't want to miss the experience and the Prime Rib.

A great stay on the way....., 2012-04-28
Captain: , Seaford, VA (1049)

Easy access along the eastern ICW through NC to VA. Great prime rib or seafood platter dinner at the restaurant.
Wish there was a pool or something else to make this a longer stay---- as it is it is a great one night stand.

Captain: , Annapolis, MD (343)

Coinjock is one of those "must stay" places on the ICW when heading in either direction. Not the most inexpensive marina, but it's gets you ready for the prices on the Chesapeake Bay. It is a welcome sight heading north if you had to fight the Albermerle Sound all day. We had seafood last night and it was very, very good (The Prime Rib is still the attraction). Ship store is OK. No courtesy cat, but one of the staff let us use his truck. Unfortunately, the nearest grocery is about 10 miles away.

Easy stopover, 2012-04-10
Captain: , Everett, WA (939)

We stayed here a night while waiting for winds to calm down before heading into Albemarle Sound. Side tie the whole way, very easy. Prime rib was massive and totally rocked. Not much around. Pumpout was 11 bucks. Would I stop again? If I wanted prime rib I would!

Great Marina in the Middle of Nowhere, 2012-04-06
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (329)

We typically take the VA cut and stop at Coinjock quite often. The currents are wind driven so an easy tie up might be a little tricky if the current are on your stern when you leave. The currents can be very strong but we have never had a problem. There is not much in the area but there is a great restaurant right there and famous for their home made chips and prime rib.

great place, 2012-03-24
Captain: , Little Heaven (40)

WX forced me here but next yr we'll plan on a stop here! Great place, clean, nice people and excellent food. Sadly, I didn't order the hot item - the Prime Rib.

Look forward to this stop, 2012-03-16
Captain: , NY, NY (115)

This is the only real stop south from Norfolk/Portsmouth. All side ties and they really stack close in the busy season. Excellent staff, clean restrooms/showers, ships store, nice bar and restaurant.
Don't miss the prime rib!! Call ahead and reserve your hunk o meat as they sometimes sell out in the busy season.

Great Staff, 2012-03-02
Captain: , Oriental, NC (40)

Stopped here on our way south to top off gas. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Best prime rib ever!, 2012-01-17
Captain: , florida (230)

We stopped for just an overnight. The dock staff was friendly and efficient in helping us dock. The best part of this stop, though, is the marina restaurant. Their prime rib is outstanding!

Perfect for food and fuel, 2011-12-30
Captain: , San Francisco CA (1301)

This is a regular stop on the ICW for fuel and excellent steak dinners at the restaurant. Easy in and out side tie. Nice little shop at the marina for essentials.

Nice place, friendly service., 2011-11-24
Captain: , Chester, CT (50)

Spent two nights 11/23-24/11(Thanksgiving). Nice country atmosphere, little traffic noise, quiet at night. Restaurant good, facility clean and in good repair. Would stop again.

Easy in, easy out, 2011-11-08
Captain: , Reedville, VA (689)

Stopped for night and fuel. Great service. Dock master made reservations for dinner which was excellent. Although boats rafted up, easy out in morning.

Nice little stop., 2011-11-07
Captain: , Ophelia, VA (849)

We have stopped at Coinjock several times and the service is consistently helpful and courteous. We decided to try seafood dishes at dinner and wished we had stuck with the prime rib.

Docked very close together, 2011-10-17
Captain: , Mattituck, NY. (391)

Very much improved since last time we were here.Have not been here in many years. Restaurant was good, very varied menu. Bathrooms clean and new. Dock hands were very helpful and friendly. Pump out VERY expensive. Will be back.

Packed in at Coinjock, 2011-10-15
Captain: , Branford, CT (1003)

Our stern is 18" from the boat behind us. Our bow overhangs the swim platform of the boat in front of us. When I asked the dock hand "How do I get out of here?" (Yes, I know....springline) he said "I have no idea". There is 400' or more of empty dock ahead of us. Good Prime rib. Free wifi was so slow it would not load my home page. Nevertheless, a good place to stop.

Ever been to Coinjock?, 2011-09-09
Captain: , Oriental, NC (65)

Where is what I said. Great place to stop on the ICW with great food. I was told the food was great but was not sold on the advice. Very impressed with the food and the friendliness of all there.

Excellent stop,Helpful staff, 2011-08-24
Captain: , Oriental NC (239)

Not a lot of traffic in mid August, but fully stocked and well cared for. Bath house clean and modern, supplies a bit short there. helped us mail an emergency package. good dockside fuel, pump out.

Great stay at a great place, 2011-07-18
Captain: , Palmetto Fl (545)

Easy in, easy out. Gas and pumpout at every space on the tie along dock. JW, the dockmaster, was friendly and helpful. The restaurant lived up to its reputation with good food and service. Best prime rib we had in years. Cooked to perfection.

Great spot to stop, 2011-07-06
Captain: , Kingston, Ontario (1970)

Not a lot outside the marina, but inside a great restaurant (wonderful prime rib), nice facilities including laundry, marine store and friendly staff. Docking is along a wall so they do charge the actual length of the boat including bowsprits and davits.

Geat place to stop overnight, 2011-07-04
Captain: , Beach haven NJ (510)

This marina is one of my favorite stops when heading south on the ICW. It has a great bar, restaurant and ships store. Nice facilities and the restaurant is known for their steaks.

A "must stop", 2011-06-19
Captain: , Annapolis (95)

Voted (by my wife and I) as the best meal since we left Hilton Head Island SC. JW takes great care of you on the dock and the restaurant is very good. Good fuel, food and people. What more could you ask...

Good marina and helpful staff, 2011-06-05
Captain: , Pentwater, MI (415)

How many marinas along the waterway do you have dockhands ask if you would like to make dinner reservations and at what time. Then they ask if you want to reserve a 32 oz. or 16 oz. prime rib!

One of several reasons I enjoy this place. The food in the restaurant is very good at very reasonable prices.

The marina store is better than most with basic groceries, wine, beer and basic marine supplies (not parts).

Good fuel stop, 2011-05-22
Captain: , Bagdad, Florida (286)

Great stop for fuel and ice. Restaurant serves up a generous portion of prime rib. All docking is parallel and the marina was quite full n our visit. Would stop here again.

great stop, 2011-05-17
Captain: , Westport,Ma (710)

great dock to meet and mingle with other boaters. Nice resturant and they have a ships store with galley basics, beer wine, boat maintence fuel filters etc.

One of our favorites, 2011-05-09
Captain: , Kings Creek Marina (766)

We always stop here. It%u2019s the half way point from Alligator River to Great Bridge. If you call 24 hours in advance, the kitchen at the restaurant will make Crawdad Cakes (better than crab cakes) with a New Orleans sauce that will keep you coming back. Easy tie up. Good price on fuel. Great food.

Cheap diesel, great restaurant, 2011-05-09
Captain: , Baltimore, MD (386)

The diesel was the cheapest we paid anywhere from Beaufort, SC to Coinjock, NC. Terrific prime rib, filet, and broiled fish/shrimp/scallops at the restaurant.

Great stop, 2011-05-05
Captain: , Mullica Hill, NJ (688)

This is a must stop if you like Prime Rib. I have stopped here numerous times in the last 25 years and the quality of the food has remained excellent! the docking staff is very helpful and know what they are doing. The pumpout was quick. showers could use an upgrade otherwise this is a first class stop.

Great Dinner!, 2011-04-27
Captain: , Fishing Bay VA (335)

After a full day of slogging through the rivers and sounds heading North from Beaufort to Coinjock, though a little late, we arrived to a welcome stop. The marinia even called to confirm we were OK and still arriving that evening. Great crew, very helpful, showers were hot but could use a little TLC to keep em cleaner, Valvtec fuel and one of the best Prime Rib dinners I have ever had.. A Must stop in my opinion! 4 stars until the showers get a little cleaner then its 5!

Great stop when running the ditch, 2011-04-12
Captain: , Waretown, NJ (354)

Had to pull out off the outside due to rough seas and after a looooong day in the ditch this place was a welcome surprise. Fantastic help at the dock, good food and drinks. As mentioned im previous reviews there is no town so dont plan on leaving the dock.

Easy in and out stop, 2011-03-18
Captain: , East Greenwich, RI (222)

Easy side tie on one long face dock. We were early in the season and so weren't too surprised to find out that the pump out was not available yet. Nice restaurant is right by the boat so we feasted on pork chops and prime rib. Nice ships store and heads were spotless.

Overnight 2-5-11, 2011-02-15
Captain: , Tybee Island, GA (90)

Stop over on the way south. Off season and no problems. After checking in and refueling, motored across canal to great resturant.

a must stop, 2011-02-07
Captain: , millsboro DE (300)

I have stayed here on numerous occasions and found the marina and staff 1st rate but that is not the reason to stay the fried chicken in the restruant is to die for.

Coinjock Marina, 2011-02-06
Captain: , Gloucester, VA (514)

Overall a very good experience. Pleasent, perfessional staff from Dockmaster down to dockhands. Good restaraunt nearby. The only negative is that the canal can get busy and eventhough it's a no wake zone you can be disturbed in the early morning by the early risers heading out for a day of fishing.

Pleasant Night Stay, 2011-02-02
Captain: , Palm CIty Florida (48)

A nice marina located in a great stopping point. Staff is friendly and easy to work with. Dock space can be tight depending on the number of boats in for the night. Would like to have stayed longer.

Very good marina easy in and out., 2011-01-31
Captain: , Jacksonville, FL (822)

Great rest. try the Prime Rib, Good for deisel

Very Close Quarter Docking, 2010-11-08
Captain: , Cleveland, Ohio (50)

Although the facility is nice and you can read in other reviews about the restaurant, etc., we were very unhappy wiith the way we were packed in on the docks. We were placed with our anchor 1 ft from the boat ahead (not an exageration) and the boat behind us was maybe 18 inches away. In fact the dock hands wanted us even closer, but I refused. This is just too close, let alone in waters with that kind of current. In order to leave in the morning, you need to coordinate/get help from the boat on either side. We saw no staff to help when folks wanted to leave at daylight. All the various owners got together to help/fend off each others's boats. Everyone got off ok, but it was very tense and I suspect only done so they could cram one more boat in for the night. For reference, we have been full time cruising for 18 months and have never experienced this degree of close docking. We will not go back there again.

stop made in may 2010, 2010-08-10
Captain: , Dallas, TX (726)

Stopped for fuel and was supprised at all the discounts we got to take advantage of. We were ahead of the upcoming bridge schedule and decided to hang around for an hour or so for lunch and some shopping in the store, They do have great pickeled eggs at Coinjock if you havent tried them you are really missing out. I cant wait to stop and replenish the stock on the way back south.

Great Place to eat, 2010-08-03
Captain: , Coinjock (20)

The food is great, and the service is great as well. I am local and have been going here for along time. You won't regret it.

Coinjock a stop if necessary no discounts, 2010-07-07
Captain: , Gulf Breeze, Fl (6909)

First time thru Virginia Cut always used Dismal Swamp before but bridge was broken in Elizabeth City. Coinjock has no discounts and a premium pricing. Pump out $11
$5 plus $6 disposal fee. I'll try Midway next time.

Very convienent, 2010-07-06
Captain: , Jupiter, FL (1306)

Nice folks and well managed. Restaurant is good... got soft shell crabs instead of steak and they were great.
The dog loved the place. Perfectly placed for a slow boat running from Belhaven.

32oz prime rib, 2010-02-16
Captain: , Colington Harbour OuterBanks NC (155)

Great staff and nothing beats a 32oz prime rib after a day on the water

Nice stop, 2009-07-28
Captain: , Marathon, FL (1264)

Docks are in excellent condition, well thought-out. Good service from dockhands. Prime rib at restaurant was very good - $20 for 16 oz cut. Great stop for dogs - lots of room to walk them.

Stop over, 2009-06-21
Captain: , Ophelia, VA (44)

Great stop over. We had a sick dog and they were more then willing to do whatever we needed for help. Even stopped by the boat just before bed to make sure we were OK. June 16,2009

Still a Great Place to Stop, 2009-06-06
Captain: , New Rochelle, NY (1000)

I've stopped here at least 5 times and have always experienced helpful and friendly staff, a fun bar and great prime rib.

Good dinner, 2009-05-25
Captain: , Sarasota, FL - Newport, RI (435)

We spent the night in Coinjock again and, since the only attraction is the food, I wanted to update the reviews... at least in May 2009 my 32oz prime rib was delicious -- small bone and perfectly prepared and plenty left over for another dinner so I divided the $35 cost by 2! Don't miss the hot chips with your drinks!

Good stop -- If you're big, 2008-08-02
Captain: , Fort Lauderdale (103)

I'll agree w/the reviewer's comment on big boat treatment. I came in, was told to tie Starboard to and that they'd help w/lines (I was singlehanding). Arrived to find following current and no help. I should have turned around but managed to get tied in. After I got my last line on the cleat the guy came out.
On a positive note, they've just expanded and opened the new bar -- well stocked!

Being honest, 2008-03-09
Captain: , Atlantic City, NJ (76)

This was a good stop over, we were sucked in by the 32oz prime rib offer but mine seemed a bit under proportioned. We got caught in a Nor-Easter here and had to stay 3 nights. Very accomodating folks but strickly a pass through stop over. No town, No activities only option is R&R on the boat.

Restaurant Slipping, 2007-10-20
Captain: , Ft. Myers (406)

The prime rib is now "market" price. I had the big one (32 bucks) thinking I would have a piece left over. Wrong. The large one has a bone in it and not much meat. My partner had the Wahoo which was not fresh. We have eaten here for years. I guess good things don't last forever.

Great Stop!, 2007-08-25
Captain: , Oriental, NC (258)

We stayed there twice in 2006, coming and going to the Chesapeak. Easy tie up to a long face dock, easy access to fuel and a great resturant. Best prime rib I have eaten in years! Friendly and helpful staff.

It,s All About the Food, 2007-07-09
