Reviews for Cobb's Marina
Still simply outstanding, 2017-08-28
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (1342)

UPDATE August 2017

Another delivery and another stop at Cobbs, this time for a couple of days for some minor mechanical work and to wait out some weather. Frank in the parts departement tracked down some obscure parts for us really fast. The entire team at Cobb's is first rate.

UPDATE July 2017

Once again Cobb's Marina demonstrated that customer service is their priority during a brief visit for inbound C&I and fuel while on delivery. Many thinnks to David Benns for getting us turned around and on our way despite a later than hoped for arrival.

Extract from previous review:

We visited Cobb's in March of 2017. At the end of a difficult delivery that included a failed main halyard, a seized engine, and a tow from the USCG our arrival at Cobb's was welcome. Everyone on staff was helplful and kind. Dockmaster David Benns took care of us. Although we could not reach the fuel dock given our circumstances David made sure we could get diesel on the boat. The docks are nothing short of lovely with sturdy cleats and good bumper strips. Showers and baths are heated and there is plenty of hot water. Walking distance to restaurants and grocery.

CBP clearance was a piece of cake.

I will be back.

Great boatyard, an OK stop for transients, 2017-08-03
Captain: , Seaford, VA (1049)

This is a nice marina that is well run by the Cobb family. Floating docks were not brand new, but it good shape. Power and water were fine. Two travel lifts keep the boat yard busy with work. S&S Marine located right outside the gate.
However, as transient boaters, there was not much to offer. The restrooms and showeres were very basic, and somewhat clean. Not the most ideal neighborhood, but the locked gate did offer security. Walked to a couple of restaruants (nothing on site) and a grocery store was a littler further walk.
I would definiltely return for boat work, but maybe look elsewhere for transient dockage.

A wonderful family run, full service, busy marina, 2017-05-20
Captain: , quissett ma (10)

We stopped here returning to NE after spending the winter in the Caribbean. There was no slip space available, but they referred us to another marina initially. They were able to haul our boat for a badly needed bottom cleaning (at a good rate), then did their best to accommodate us with their busy schedule for 3 more nights while we waited for weather. Nice to be a great working boat yard!

Good rates and nice staff, 2016-12-15
Captain: , Magnolia (130)

We stayed here for two months, dockmaster David is superb and easy going. This is a working marina with two travelifts and a boat yard, so it's not always quiet, but they are OK with you working on your boat too. 15 minute walk to grocery and laundry, 30 mins to library, 20 mins to the beach, 45 mins to hardware store. Neighborhood outside the marina seems a bit sketchy, but never felt unsafe.

Excellent Marina, Wonderful People, A Transients Dream!, 2016-06-01
Captain: , USEastCoast (664)

We have been coming to Cobb%u2019s Marina in Little Creek twice a year for over three years. We stop in on our way north and then again on our way south. Why? Because their rates are good, the marina is in great condition (and getting better!) and well run. Because the lift operations crew are so professional and skilled, this is only one of two yards where I don%u2019t watch every move while being hauled and put on the hard. Once I get the boat into the well, I just go to the office without worry! Their facilities, while not all new and shiny, are clean and comfortable. With BoatUS discounts transient rates are only $1.50/ft./day with weekly and monthly rates as well. Our boat is our home, so obviously we live aboard her. We have never been charged a live aboard fee as a transient vessel, even on the hard, although we have stayed for a month on occasion, making repairs and refitting. All the docks are brand new floating docks with electric and water. We have needed to do numerous repairs and have used their in-house experts as well as nearby contractors with wonderful results. Best of all, they allow you to do your own work if you choose and are considerate of your time and money! Virtually any service you might need is available, carpentry, engine/drivetrain, fiberglass, paint etc. and the equipment, operators and specialists top notch. The ships store, run by Karen, while not huge, is substantial and will order anything you need quickly and at very reasonable prices. While scheduling can be a nightmare, especially when things are busy, they work hard to fit things in while maintaining quality and safety. I%u2019ve even seen them come in late at night to do an emergency haul; the boat was taking on water. While problems and issues arise no matter where you go, at Cobb%u2019s I have never had the rare concern go unheeded or problem not resolved. That is huge in my book! My bottom line is; Cobb%u2019s is one outstanding marina and boatyard and the staff even more so. After a long voyage we look forward to returning to Little Creek and Cobb%u2019s. We will miss them when we leave the east coast.

Next door is S and S Marine. Their metal fabrication is second to none, seriously. I had a custom arch with PV panel frame, several stainless grab rails, a stanchion repair and a custom day tank for my diesel heater built here. The work was flawless and reasonable. They do work for the military and boat manufactures so don't expect immediate response, they are in demand for a good reason! With Cobb's and S and S Marine together, Little Creek is a perfect destination.

Not the best, not the worst, 2016-05-30
Captain: , Dover DE (144)

Working marina. They do not rush to get your work done. We were trapped there for a long period of time due to an accident that occurred after we arrived. Another boat hit our boat in the Pit area while we were away from the marina getting food. The problem was eventually taken care of (after insurance dropped them, refused to assist us, and lawyers became involved).

They did take their sweet time getting to talk to us most of the time, but on the good side, the work they actually performed for us (Linda the Carpenter) was awesome. The outside contractor for the stainless steel work (Howdy Bailey) was outstanding.

If you're going there for work to be done, make arrangements ahead of time. As cruisers, we don't have that luxury sometimes and need things "now" to catch a weather window or move to some other place. Usually, problems we find are "right now" issues.

Note that they have a "live aboard fee" now.

Note that they are now metering their electricity and it will cost you a minimum of $10USD.

Great Service, 2016-04-07
Captain: , Huntington, NY (20)

Had a fresh water system issue when commissioning the system this season and had crew flying in to go north. Called Cobb's this morning in a panic and Frank, although busy, sent Tim right over to help me out. The problem was resolved in less than an hour including a thurough check to verify it would say fixed. Tim is an ex Peugeot mechanic so I suspect he can fix anything. They didn't bust my chops on the billing side either. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Great folks, 2015-11-12
Captain: , Wilmington NC (400)

Was having some alignment issues with my engine that I was unable to resolve. Cobb's got me in their schedule and were able to resolve the issue in an afternoon. Great people. Great friendly professional service. Great value. well stocked ship store.

Great DIY Yard , 2015-06-17
Captain: , Port Ludlow WA (20)

This is a gem of a place for those boaters wishing to do their own work. Rates are reasonable, staff is very accommodating and friendly. The working yard has water and power and the Marina ships store is a great convenience. The new floating docks along with facilities that are gated makes for a safe and secure stay.

Great marina, nice stay overnight there friendly staff, 2014-11-19
Captain: , Ft lauderdale (20)

Friendly staff nice marina, close to whooping center. Cattagirl our cat. Lagoon 44 said she like to stay there again! Now something there are hundreds of seagull there and when they take off run for cover! Lol I highly recommend this marina

Fantastic Stay!, 2014-07-07
Captain: , Fort Myers, FL (117)

Stayed here for a week to avoid Hurricane Arthur and to deal with an electrical problem. Staff was fantastic, Frank the electrician especially so. Got it fixed and enjoyed the marina while waiting for the storm to pass. Safe and secure brand new floating docks. Easy walk to restaurants and shopping. If only they had a laundry, it would be perfect. Can't say enough good things about the staff- a quality working yard.

Mixed feelings..., 2014-06-17
Captain: , Hampton, VA (310)

Our cutlass bearing went out and had to be towed into Cobb's in a nasty storm. Very primitive docking facilities... our boat spent 5 days crippled, tied to the dock, waiting for them to pull our boat out. (At full dock prices.) Then $144 to pull the boat and put it on the dirt. We were also charged $72 for washing the boat, which never happened.

Cobb's allow "do it yourselfers" to work on their own boats. At a loss at how to knock the old bearing out, one of their own mechanics came over and showed us how (no charge! :-). Sadly, the strut was rotted and broke with the first blow. Now we had to order a strut, which took 3 weeks to arrive. All this time racking up storage at half the dock rates.

Meanwhile, the boat behind ours wanted to be launched. WE were charged $144 (a full launch fee) so they could move the other boat. I really thought this unfair and poor business practice!

Finally, the strut arrived. Again, their mechanic gave us help, for free. He even looked over the final job, to see if it was ok.

A few days later, they put our boat back into the water for another $144. Over $1,100 and a over a month from the day we arrived, we finally were able to sail away.

1. I was charged for 5 days in the water when it was for their convenience.
2. I was charged a full haul out so they could move my boat for their convenience.
3. I was charged for a wash that never happened. (They DID remove the bogus washing charge.)

1. The amazing help and kindness shown by the mechanics, TWICE, and at no charge.
2. Allowing D.I.Y.ers to work.
3. They basically gave us the run of the place, even giving us the code to get in after hours.

Can you see why I have mixed feelings about Cobb's Marina?

Quiet, responsive, and complete, 2014-06-02
Captain: , Norfolk, VA (21)

This small marina is probably the best location on the bay for friendly, reasonably priced dockage and services. A DIY friendly yard with capable staff and two travel lifts. One dock is old and in need of repair, which is slowly being addressed, and the other dock is a new floating system in beautiful condition.

Terrific place to service your boat, 2013-10-31
Captain: , Bayfield, WI and the ICW (1390)

A real workplace, with qualified help, decent rates and a spot to work on your boat yourself. No fancy services, but equipped with two big lifts and personnel who know how to do these things if you don't.

Nice, simple marina, 2013-07-23
Captain: , Galesville, MD (1341)

Agree with others regarding very pleasant marina staff. Floating dock is new. Ice and basics in the marina store. Heads and showers are clean and reasonable. Easy walk to restaurants, and a few more blocks to CVS, Food Lion and laundry. Expect a Navy escort coming into the inlet!

Older marina, being improved, 2013-07-02
Captain: , Chesapeake, VA (253)

Cobb's has the best prices in the area, and access in and out is easy, easy, easy. One of the old, dilapidated piers has been replaced with a shiny, new floating dock in 2013, the others will be replaced in the near-ish future. The marina offers cypher-locked heads with showers, a small ship's store and restaurants within walking distance. Salty Dog's consignment store is just over the bridge, a short walk away. The marina is also a full-service boat yard. Lots of perks. The best thing I've found so far, though, is the small, friendly staff that takes care of the marina. Helpful and approachable, you need only ask and it's taken care of. The piers need work, but they're getting it, and the staff makes up easily. 4 stars.

Friendly People, 2012-07-25
Captain: , St Augustine, Fl (480)

You will find the staff friendly and helpful. You will need to wear your shoes on the dock becaice it is serious need of replacing and some of the nails are working their way out. at the very least the nails should be replaced with screws and counter sunk. The rate here is a fair price, and while they have showers they don't have a boaters lounge. wifi did not make it to the end of C dock which was a bit of an inconvenience. But all in all a nice place.

Good Overnight Stop, 2012-05-22
Captain: , Winthrop, MA (896)

We were here getting ready to head outside to go to Atlantic City. Very friendly and helpful people. Can't beat the price. Docks are not in the best shape, but still safe. Bathrooms and showers clean with pleanty of hot water.

Short Haul, 2012-02-08
Captain: , SeaScape Marina (310)

Had 2001, 3672 Cruisers pulled for a short haul, December 2011. Staff were ready and waiting upon arrival. Safety of staff and equipment were evident. Boat was cleaned and placed back in the water in a timely fashion. Would use them again if needed.

A good place to get stuck, 2011-12-13
Captain: , Miami (81)

Cobbs is family run, EVERYBody is knowledgable, friendly and helpful. They have 2 travel lifts, 50 & 75 ton, 21 1/2' beam,12' draft.
The showers are clean, heated and plenty of hot water. The dockage is $1.25/ ft, incl electric but less with BoatUS discount.
My injection pump quit just before Thanksgiving and because of the holiday, I was there for 2 weeks. Food lion, West Marine Express, ATM, laundromat, great public transportation and good restaurants are within easy walking.
Cutty Sark, across harbor but walkable, has good food and drinks at great prices. They hosted a terrific pot luck Thanksgiving dinner.
Action Master Volvo dealer is across the street. They have competent mechanics but be sure you discuss their "Emergency Service" charge and shop rates before you commit to service.
Cobbs and Horizon Marine have excellent mechanics on site and are $25-$30 per hour cheaper.

Saved my trip, 2011-11-28
Captain: , Cape Elizabeth (494)

When no other boat yard was willing to get it done, Cobbs got it done and saved my planned participation in the Caribbean 1500. I cannot say enough about their willingness to serve the customer.

Great people, 2011-10-29
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (215)

Put in here in October for planned maintenance and fiberglass repair. Knowledgable and helpfull staff that worked very hard to meet my departure date. Reasonable prices and good quality work.

Working marina, 2011-10-14
Captain: , Apponaug R.I. (908)

Very pleasent management. This is a real working boatyard. Many, many restorations in progress. The dock are a little rough but perfectly safe. The docks are fixed not floating.

A quality repair marina., 2011-08-09
Captain: , Sue Island, Maryland (131)

From a recent experience, they do quality work, and most importantly stand behind their work.

Great yard for service, 2010-06-14
Captain: , Palm Coast (792)

Stopped here to have shaft seals replaced. Very prompt service as far as pulling boat and ordering parts. Service Manager Frank Harrell gets his hands dirty and makes sure it's done right. Of course service and quality cost.

As a place to stay, it's close to a lot of services but for us they only have one t-dock that can handle our boat. The yard and facilities are well maintained and clean. Staff (lots of family) are very helpful and friendly.

A Place to make landfall, 2010-06-07
Captain: , Hilton Head, SC (1234)

A no frills marina with only one shower on the men's side (presumably same on lady's). We didn't use shore power. But it was a welcome spot to make landfall after 4.5days in the Gulf Stream coming up north from Ft. Lauderdale. Good restaurants in walking distance.

Good Place to leave your boat - do it yourself yard, 2007-04-28
Captain: , Key Biscayne FL (3171)

This is a down to earth slightly scruffy boatyard. We left our boat here for a week to travel home. Best part is it is 3 miles from airport and cheap. Boat US price is $1/ft including elec and $8/ft per month.
