Reviews for Clayton Municipal Dock
Not the best value, 2016-06-13
Captain: , N. Myrtle Beach (343)

While the dock is substantial, it is exposed to rollers and wakes from the river especially on the river side. They recently upgraded their electrical and if you have an older boat that requires 50 amp service, you will likely not be able to use your 120v side as the ground fault breakers trip immediately on turning on any circuit.

Staff here is most helpful and undertstand the situation. The dockage rates are high for the available service but they seem to be about average for Clayton.

Access to the Antique Boat Musuem is just off the dock. Restaurants in town were numerous and all that we visited were very good.

Friendly atmosphere, 2016-06-08
Captain: , Naples, FL (682)

On balance we enjoyed our visit to Clayton Municipal Dock but it was not comfortable. Wind out of the west whipped up quite a chop so we bounced around all night. Neither side of the pier is preferable from a wake perspective even without a westerly wind becasue the inside of the pier is on the access waterway to the municipal boat ramp while the outside gets the wake from numerous harbor craft. Settle s down at night though.
The pier is in good shape with new power pedestals and plenty of good size cleats. Showeres and laundry are clean and serviceable and easily accesed at the end of the shoreside end of the pier.

Great location, 2016-06-04
Captain: , Westbrook CT (277)

But expensive at $1.75 per foot and $12 for electricity and no wifi.

Many things to do and see including Antique Boat Museum, tour boat to Boldt Castle. We were a week too early for the Great New York Food and Wine Festival.

Canadian dollar at par $1.25/ft, 2015-08-25
Captain: , Gananoque ,Ontario Canada (430)

We were there August 1 2015 The municipal dock hands were exceptional in both line handling and courtesy. The outside wall unfortuantely takes a pounding from the wakes as it is a very busy area (set out more fenders). They take the Canadian dollar at par and $1.25 per foot. Close to all ammentities and the grocery store will come pick you up and return you for provisioning. Bathroom very clean and hydro hook up 30 and 50 amp service same price.

Only negative for us was the wakes, 2015-06-27
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (2870)

It was a great location, the dockmaster/hands were helpful and friendly, the bathrooms/showers were fine. The only negative was the almost continual wakes from the river rocking the boat until after sunset.

The Antique Boat Musum next door is worth every penny to someone who likes to see real boat craftsmanship.

Ok for what it has, 2015-06-17
Captain: , Houston, Texas (970)

Will take credit cards with a surcharge.
Calmer on the inside.
Wifi at the Library (5 blocks).
Good ice cream at the shop next to the hardware store. The Scoop.
A good brochure showing all the town facilities and businesses is available ate the dock office.

Works for us, 2015-06-12
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (80)

We had wind and a bouncy night which doesn't bother us at all being rocked to sleep. We were on the inside and I would not have stayed here on the outside as a boat furtherout from us was takening a pretty good beating IMHO.

Good Stop Close to Town, 2015-06-07
Captain: , Fort Monroe, VA (949)

Dock has been renovated with 50A power pylons in last four spaces and street lights on the dock. Each pylon has only one outlet. Very close to Muesum and easy walking distance to downtown. Grocery store one mile walk. No laundry facilities nearby, dropping this down a star. Can be rough on weekends. This is a no reservation dock, first come first served. Suggest finding a spot on the inside of the pier.

Would be 5 stars, but I couldn't keep the GCFI from tripping., 2015-06-03
Captain: , Bayou Bonfouca, LA- Great Loop Cruiser (708)

This dock is convenient to everything. Downtown is a few block walk. The Boat musuem is a must see for anyone who loves boats.
The staff were more than helpful.

Good stop over, 2015-05-30
Captain: , Huntington Harbour, CA (337)

The municipal dock is ocated between the wooden boat museum and the marina. Helpful staff. Conveniently located. The Boat Museum is a must-see: we spent over 5 hours there. Johnston House restaurant is good. Nice selection of stores in town. Ted even got a hair cut!!

Can be rough - great restaurants/ shopping in town, 2014-07-31
Captain: , Port Credit, Ontario (251)

Have stayed here many times to take advantage of the grocery and liquor stores nearby. Any wind will have you bouncing on the dock, but the staff will assist you getting in and getting you power (sometimes difficult with all the boats). Tight to get on the inside dock for a sailboat. Excellent restaurants and stores along Riverside Drive along with the Customs videophone. Neighbourhood Streets for walking the dogs. The boat museum's grounds always clean and neat. Holidays some people camp out on the docks with chairs making it difficult to manouver. Will need good fenders, but usually dies down at night.

Convenient to Museum, 2014-06-29
Captain: , Little River, SC (476)

Good dock, but you will rock and roll from the shipping traffic. Inside is better if you can get it. Use tour company to see the islands and Boldt Castle. Ladies at the museum will hook you up. Would have never seen the beautiful areas we did on our own boat.

Clayton Village Dock, 2013-10-16
Captain: , Port Huron (423)

Harbormaster Don is very helpful. He did'nt charge us for the first night that we arrived after hours and weren't able to get power and even lent us his car to get to the laundomat. We had a bouncy night with a strong north wind even on the inside. I think I'd go somewhere else if I had to go outside. Ditto on the other reviews about rolling and the Boat Museum. Without the added plusses I'd rate it a 3, but it's a great little town and I'd come here again.

Antique Boat Museum, 2013-09-02
Captain: , Venice, Fl. (949)

Long dock with power as described. $1.25/ft with electric. Bathrooms and shower at the end of the dock. Convenient to the town and especially the museum. Can get rolly.

Docking at Town Dock, 2013-01-10
Captain: , Brockville On (335)

Centrally located for getting supplies, but if the wind blows strong out of the North you want to be dock on the south side of the dock.

A nice marina to stay overnight, 2012-11-09
Captain: , Howe Island, SLS, Ontario, Canada (427)

I spent a couple days in Clayton Village Marina this summer.

The dock is open to the shipping channel. You will feel some wakes during the day but it settles a bit down at night. If possible, get on the inside of the dock. A nice and safe marina to dock.

The staff is easy going and friendly, they make you feel welcome in Clayton. The town offers shopping, food, and some other attractions ... a nice place to stay for a day or two.

Worth the stop because of the Antique Boat Museum, 2012-07-10
Captain: , LeClaire, Iowa (449)

The Antique Boat Museum is a must-see for boaters. The Clayton Municiple Dock is adjacent to it and the main dining area is only a few blocks away. The docks themselves are okay and only cost $1per ft or $1.25 per ft with electricity. The 50 amp power is at the west end. We observed some boats taking two 30 amp pedestals to get their 50 amps, leaving other boats without power. We thought that was rude, but the dock master did not do anything about it. The docks get waked a lot - boaters do not seem to observe "no wake" near docks. We did not even see any "no wake" signs. A reasonably priced dock next to a great museum.

Great Annual Stopping Spot, 2011-08-02
Captain: , Brewerton, NY (489)

Adjacent to the renowned Antique Boat Museum, municipal dock provides clean and secure dockage for 10 to 12 boats with power and water for $1.25 per foot (Daytiime use is free.) Inside tie-up is less rolly, but outside works in a pinch. Restroom and shower at end of dock is available 24 hours. Ten minuute stroll into rivershore village, which offers about six dining locations; along with old-time stadium style benches to watch boats come and go from the islands, view the sunset, and eat ice cream from The Scoop. Lyric Coffee House restaurant on James Street is casual but upscale establishment offering nicely prepared fine dining, wine and full bar, coffee and bake shop desserts. Be sure to check local event schedule, as docks can be full and/or unavailable during Antique Boat Museum events.

Clayton Town Dock (French Bay), 2011-02-22
Captain: , Kingston, ON (455)

The dockmasters are easy going guys who make you feel welcome in Clayton. Its very important to get on the inside of the dock. It would be a rough ride on the outside to lots of traffic.
The slips on the end of the docks have 50 amp service, the rest of the dock has 30 amp service.

POI: Groceries are available at the nearby Big M. This store offers a free shuttle service back to the dock.
Lyric Coffee House has the BEST frozen coffee drinks anywhere. There are a surprising number of restaurants in town.

Clayton Municipal Dock, 2010-10-12
Captain: , Huron Ohio (608)

Stayed 7/22-24/2010. Great location for visit to Antique Boat Museum. Rock & Roll from locals racing around. Showers had no hot water two days in a row.

Nice town ok dock, 2010-08-20
Captain: , Elizabeth City, NC (241)

The dock is fairly open to the shipping channel. You will feel some wakes during the day but it settles down at night. We paid $1.25 per foot including electric and water.

Clayton Municipal Dock, 2009-07-24
