Reviews for City of Fort Myers Yacht Basin
East Basin Live Aboard Side, 2017-08-16
Captain: , Apollo Beach (211)

This marina does have some facility challenges. On my recent month long visit (8/17) we stayed in the East Basin on their face pier for the first time. I believe this is the live-aboard side. The pier has large wooden pilings offering separation from the cement pier. These work well as bumpers but it makes for a LARGE step once the fenders are out. Be careful. Staff are very helpful when docking just call for assistance. The power system is not in the best of repair. I'm told the marina is in the process of updating it. Our pedestal wasn't completely working but after a few days an electrician fixed the problem. Water taste good and has decent pressure and there is a built in pump-out at the slip available every day. They also have a waste oil dump. There was an annoying surge that rolled in from the river during winds above calm from most directions. Seems the entire basin is subject to it. Ft. Myers has spent a lot of effort improving their downtown area. It is clean with many new shops, restaurants and bars both upscale and pedestrian. We walked extensively downtown and only once was approached by a beggar and I did see a homeless person sleeping under the bridge near the marina and some teens harassing female joggers. Cities, go figure. The marina appears to have no issues. There are trolleys and tip only electric cabs. Rent-a-car is close and Ft. Myers Beach is a day trip down the river while Cayo Costa and Franklin Lock are Overnight trips. You will see lots of different staff who are hard working, helpful and friendly doing that little extra thing that makes you smile. The ships store is better than average and there is a Famers Market every Thursday (7am to 1pm) within easy walking distance. It earns only 4 stars due to the surge and fixed docks.

Management response:
Captain Gary,
Thank you for the four stars. We are in the process of updating a facility that was built in 1939. We have definitely come a long way, rebuilding many of the docks, installing a brand new Pumpout station to improve the operation of the marina- wide system, installing new power pedestals and new wiring in much of the marina. Our plan, in the near future, is to build a new floating dock system in our west basin. These plans are in the engineering stages and will take some time before we are able bring this to fruition.
Again, thank you for the kind review and for staying with us. We hope to see you when you are back in the area,

We enjoyed the downtown area.

Location, location, location, 2017-07-04
Captain: , Lighthouse Point, FL (227)

Right in the heart of old Fort Myers. We are here for the 4th and all the activities are just outside the marina including the fireworks.

Decent facility with clean bathrooms, laundry and good ships store. Very pleasant staff. The only drawback is tiny finger piers. If you need a ladder to board ask ahead for an alongside slip. The Admiral is having a heck of a time getting off our boat that is high on the side and with a low swim platform.

Management response:
Captain Michael,
We very much appreciate the nice review and hope you will stay with us again soon. The area you stayed was designed with narrow finger piers but we do have areas in the marina with wide fingers also. Please let us know if you would need a slip with a wide finger pier and we will try to accommodate your request. Thanks again for staying at the Fort Myers Yacht Basin,
Brian R Dodson

a good marina, 2017-06-28
Captain: , Merritt Island, FL (556)

We stayed here April 27, and again on June 25, 2017. The marina is easy to get in and out from the waterway. The transient dock is old but nice. The staff does a good job helping you get tied-up. The downtown area is beautiful, and has plenty places to eat. I would stay here again.

Management response:
Captain Royce,
The staff and I appreciate the kind words and look forward to your return. We are continually making improvements in our facility and strive to make your stay with us a positive and enjoyable experience. Thank you for the nice review,

Stayed a week waiting for Okeechobee water levels to rise . New clean restrooms. Typical marina ships store. Plenty to do in the beautifully restored downtown area. Publix easy walk.

This marina is getting tired!, 2017-05-25
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (118)

This use to be one of our favorite stops because it is just a couple of blocks to downtown restaurants. We stayed there for one night this week and have decided not to return until they spend some money on the place. The staff is nice but the docks lack maintenance. In fact, a number of them were closed with construction tape. Hopefully that means they are being fixed. The face dock lacks cleats. Overall, a sad state of affairs.

Management response:
Captain Alex,
I hope that you will return to enjoy the downtown. This facility was built in 1937 and in the last 10-12 years we have spent over five million dollars in renovations, rebuilding docks, replacing electrical pedestals, installing a brand new Pumpout system and new water lines. The dock that you refer to as having construction tape on 3 slips is unfortunately along the street so it is very visible. This dock has been re-engineered for floating docks and is the last dock in the marina needing to be renovated. We hope to be able to start these repairs by this fall but as you may know, permitting of docks are a lengthy process and could take longer than we would like. Please bear with us as we are continually making improvements to this facility for your enjoyment. I hope we will see you in the near future. Thank you for the review,

Friendly and convenient to downtown Fort Myers!, 2017-04-18
Captain: , Clearwater (104)

Friendly marina with really nice showers! (Love that!!! Whoever is cleaning them does a fantastic job!) Well stocked store for marina supplies and snacks. Downtown Fort Myers is RIGHT THERE! Walk to everything. We walked to Publix and took an Uber back. Went for a massage at the floating "Rumours" salon which was fantastic!!! Thank you!

Management response:
Captain Keith,
Thank you for the great review! Hope to see you at the Yacht Basin again the next time you travel to Fort Myers.

We love Ft. Myers Yacht Basin!, 2017-04-16
Captain: , Baltimore (529)

We stayed last winter there and were impressed. You can walk to town, lots of activity, easy walk to grocery store. Our plans changed several times this year so we only got to FMYB for a few nights. It was great to see the same faces of the boaters and staff. Brian (new dockmaster, who took over when Lief retired) is working to improve the place.
The new wifi was noticed.
It would be great if they had floating docks but the in-slip pump-out is really nice.
This year we found a resturant in town named "The Hideaway" - great specials and easy to get a sandwich and a beer.
We will be back for sure.

Management response:
Good morning Captain,
Thank you for your 5 star review. We have many positive changes planned for the Fort Myers Yacht Basin. Floating docks will be part of these changes. We have plans to replace one of the oldest docks in the marina with floaters. We are proud of our marina wide Pumpout system that has been in place for 14 years and have recently updated the mechanical works of the system with new, state of the art equipment. Have a great summer and hope to see you again soon.

Great place to enjoy a winter month, 2017-04-06
Captain: , Solomons, MD (271)

We recently spent a month at FMYB and enjoyed our time there. We typically spend a month each winter because of the ease of getting into and out of the marina and the many activities Ft. Myers has to offer - not the least of which is the Florida Repitory Theater! Everyone on the staff is very helpful and Amy is always ready to help with parking permits and answering questions about the area.
So why not a five star? We were docked in the east end of the east basin and, as previously mentioned in a review, the dirt is very difficult to deal with. I think it's mostly road dirt from the bridge so during east wind events expect to seek lots of dirt on the boat. Nothing the staff can do about that but we definately prefer being as far from the bridge as possible. Also, lots of lod boats detract from the beauty of the place. Earlier response from Brian on this issue is encouraging. When guests come to visit it's disheartening to walk them past so many eyesores.
For the money this place can't be beat. The City is doing a great job of getting the marina up to ship shape and providing a nice venue for dining and sightseeing.

Management response:
Captain Chenevey,
Sorry it took so long to reply to your review. This has been an exceptional season and we are seeing large numbers of boaters on the move. Thank you for the nice review and we hope you will be back again soon. Enjoy your summer.

Winter in an Historic City, Near the Gulf, Warm Enough, Good Shopping, 2017-03-14
Captain: , Chattanooga, TN (554)

We have just left the Fort Myers Yacht Basin after our first winter there. We had been in the Keys for four years before. Fort Myers is not the Keys; the Keys are not Fort Myers. Both have advantages and disadvantages.

The FMYB staff is very responsive to needs and requests. Brian, the new marina manager, is great to work with. The fuel dock is constantly busy. Make winter reservations early. In particular, Loopers flood the area in late January through February.

Overall, the facilities are very good. The newly redone showers and bathrooms are extremely nice. The docks are fixed concrete. The marina store has more inventory than most that we've come across.

The marina is two blocks away from the historic district of Fort Myers and the great shopping and restaurants there. Cruisers can buy fresh vegetables, honey, mushrooms, breads, handmade goods, and a variety of sandwiches, wraps, and bowls from food trucks at the Thursday Farmers Market at Centennial Park, about two blocks away from the marina. Publix Grocery is a mile away, an easy walk for most. A liquor store is nearby.

The yacht basin is a 30-minute drive from Fort Myers Beach before January 1. It is an hour's drive after New Year's when the snowbirds flood in.

Best of all is the Edison-Ford Winter Home Museum, a little over a mile away from the marina. It is absolutely worth the visit. It provides insight into Thomas Edison's life and his character.

Fort Myers is very spread out. Although it has a small year-round population, its snowbird population draws major stores to the area.

The drawbacks are that the marina allows some liveaboards who bought their boats to be an apartment. They have never had a boat before and don't plan to sail or move their boat. The people we met like that are good people. It's no reflection on them personally. However, they don't know how and often can't maintain their boats adequately.

Management response:
Thank you for your review Kent and Jane,
The Fort Myers Yacht Basin is a great place to be. We have a great staff and a lot of great customers.I have been here myself for 18 years and we do have a big liveaboard population. For that reason, we are in the process of implementing a plan to get these vessels on the move again, even if only to exercise the boats on occasion. This should allow those vessel owners to better maintain their boats. Hope you will come back to see us next season. Safe journeys,
Brian R. Dodson

continually making upgrades, 2017-03-07
Captain: , Spruce Head (582)

It is difficult to write a review of this Marina without considering the City of Fort Myers, which is simply wonderful. The City has a constant series of events and as stated by others, the Marina is just blocks away from everything. This is our second stay at the Yacht Basin in a very short period of time. The first was when we lost our transducer and we were invited into the office to use their resources, even though the marina was full. While there, a slip opened up and we stayed until the part arrived. Brian, Mark, Denise and Amy were very nice, very helpful and responsive both times.

We retuned a short time later for a one month stay. The only issue we had was with the dock hand upon our arrival both times. He just stood there holding the lines as if he didn't know what to do with them. Perhaps he didn't. Although the infrastructure is old, they are gradually making improvements to electric system and they upgraded the self-service pump out to automatically turn on, which is very nice. The new showers were gorgeous. The atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming.

Management response:
Captain Rob, Thank you for staying at the Fort Myers Yacht Basin. We appreciate the kind words and will be continually upgrading our facility as time and money allow.
I apologize for the Dock Attendant and will speak with all of them about your concerns. I hope that you will stop back again soon. Safe travels,

okay marina, 2017-02-26
Captain: , Bay Shore, NY (550)

arrived from the east coast and stayed 1 night; not terribly impressed. Downtown a short walk, but street, bridge, and construction noise annoying. Many nice boats, but quite a few in not so hot condition. Probably safe...but we felt the need to lock up when leaving the boat. Edison Ford much better

Management response:
Captain Jim,
I apologize for the construction noise. Unfortunately, I have little control over this but when the construction is finished, there will be a newly renovated, state of the art complex overlooking the Yacht Basin. We are working to remove a few vessels that the owners have let fall into disrepair but overall the marina is a safe place with few incidents. I hope that you will (maybe after the construction is complete) allow us the opportunity to accommodate your vessel again. Thank you,
Brian R Dodson

Love this place, 2017-02-09
Captain: , Lizella GA (1826)

This is a great place to stay for so many reasons. The town is active with different events going on thqat crusiers can join in on. There is a Palm Tree garden across the street from the marina with hundreds of palms from all over the world. They have a well stocked marine store with some of the best prices I have seen anywhere. I bought new dock lines, chart book, key float and other things becase of the great prices. Once a month they have a burger hotdog burn for everyone. It is a fun get together. I stay here everytime I come through.

Management response:
Thank you Captain Wellman,
All of the staff and myself are very proud of our facility. Our number one concern is customer service and how we can better accommodate our customers. We try to carry everything our boaters need in the Ship Store and offer same day orders if we do not have what you need in stock. Thank you for your review,
Brian R. Dodson

Just say NO to the East Dock wall , 2017-02-06
Captain: , Annapolis (40)

We made our reservation weeks ago but when we arrived we were given the wall slip along the highway next to the Edison Bridge in the East Dock. Not only is there constant traffic noise all day and night, the highway kicks off a lot of dirt and dust into the boat. Across the street is noise and dust from a high rise building under construction AND you are the farthest point away from the showers, laundry and marina office. I would never stay here if the east dock is the only slip available. Also, they advertise free pumpout but we were told that the service is indefinitely unavailable. On a positive note, the showers are clean with plenty of hot water.

Management response:
Captain Lewis,
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you on your first night at the Fort Myers Yacht Basin. We were completely full due to the Art Fest event going on downtown and had nothing else available on your first night. When I was made aware of your concerns, by way of this review, I contacted you to offer a slip that had become available in the west basin and had our dock attendants assist you with your dock lines. I hope your second night was much more enjoyable.
The marina wide Pumpout system had just been replaced the prior week and (as with all new machinery) had a few glitches to be worked out. It was down for the weekend until we could contact the manufacturer on Monday morning. On Monday, our staff assisted in making sure your vessel was pumped out.
I hope that your overall stay with us was enjoyable as we are very customer service oriented and want your stay to be a positive, memorable experience. Thank you,
Brian R. Dodson

Good stop over Christmas holiday season, 2017-01-22
Captain: , Point Edward (459)

Stayed for just over a month Dec 7 to Jan 10. Excellent now with washrooms/showers finished which improved our rating from 4 to 5 over the previous visit last year The dock staff and office staff are very helpful and friendly as always. A special thanks to Denise. Good wifi at the marina, which is important for keeping in touch. We stayed in the west basin this time. The downtown events were fun. Met some great boaters during our stay.

Generally the facilities are in very good condition. Will be great once washroom renovations are completed and no more scheduling times. Customer service /communications about renovations were clear when we reserved a slip. Weekly rate and metered hydro was a real bonus. Proximity to downtown restaurants and trolley were useful.

Management response:
Thank you Ken,

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay with us and we look forward to seeing you again! Yes, we will be oh so glad to have the restroom renovations done!!!

Great people, great location, Not great for a clean boat, 2017-01-11
Captain: , Everett WA (50)

First, let me say that the staff were excellent, and this marina is wonderfully located, right in the heart of downtown Ft Myers. The services and facilities are very nice and well maintained. The marina office is also an excellent chandlery with good prices, a good selection, and they will special order anything you need.

We stayed in the East Basin right next to the Edison Bridge for the entire month of November 2016 -- and that was NOT a good place for us. There are three issues with that location, and only one of them is likely to be resolved anytime soon. [1] DIRT: The highway 50 feet away is noisy and filthy -- black soot needs to be cleaned off daily -- we've stayed in workyards for weeks and had less filth; [2] BUGS: The grass next to the highway is filled with the most agressive ants I've ever seen. We spayed our lines and deck with toxic ant spray daily and we still had ants on the decks. We did keep them out of the boat. On the other hand there was some kind of mayfly that would cover the leeward sides of our dodger and sailcover like a carpet periodically. Keeping them out was another exercise in futiility; [3] MORE DIRT - This one is likely to resolve itself - The highrise building immediatly south of the marina is under construction and spewed dirt, dust, and odd black tarlike flakes that also required daily cleaning.

In short, we like the marina, but will never stay in its east basin under any circumstances, ever again -- especially on the far eastern side. If you are staying only for a couple of days, your experience may be better.

Hello Captain Mark,
Thank you for staying with us and I apologize for the service you received. Usually the crew is right on top of this. I will discuss it with them so that they understand how they let you down.
I know that we can do better.

Comfortable stay in a great location, 2016-11-29
Captain: , Port Aransas, TX (1344)

Stayed 1 week in early November. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Laundry room is great - 4 commercial washers and dryers plus nice folding table. Rest rooms / showers are new and very nice. Loved the floating hair salon (on a houseboat) that also offers spa services (got a great haircut, didn't try spa services). If you rent a car, you will have to pay $5/day for a parking space (if any are available). Our electricity was metered with our weekly rate, but it was very inexpensive. Easy walk to downtown shops and restaurants as well as several waterfront parks. There were downtown events every weekend and a very safe place to walk, even at night. Lots of liveaboards at this marina. Nice ship's store. Only downside was no loaner bikes or cars and the free trolley is seasonal and hadn't started running.

Had a port fuel injector pump that needed to be replaced. Jim Brown with On-Site-Diesel Engine Service was recommended by a local boating enthusiast. Jim was very prompt and worked his schedule around ours. He and his helper changed out the injectors and installed a new fuel pump in under 6 hours at a very reasonable cost. They sourced the pump and injectors and brought them to the boat. The old pump was shipped to Diesel Injection Service of Martin County in Stuart to be rebuilt and installed on the starboard engine at some point. Their rebuild was half the cost of a new pump. Ron at Diesel Injection Service bent over backwards to help and provided a list of mechanics he knew that could do the install.

Always Great, 2016-08-13
Captain: , New Port Richey (310)

Please keep this marina city mantained by city employees. Concern is coming as I stopped and fewer and fewer employees are there. The City needs to hear how important this is to the city. Other marinas are going to management companies and running off paying hard working locals. Locals add a sense of peace to travelers that are coming to visit. Getting worried...

Can't say enough great things about these people!!, 2016-07-10
Captain: , Deerfield Beach, FL (20)

First, the people. Simply - the best. Denise in the office is terrific! Super helpful, and I don't mean just a little... I mean she really wants to see the people that visit her City have a fun and safe stay. If I find myself in the area again, I'm staying at FTYB! Next up, the showers! What's not to love about them? Super clean and private. Very nice. And wait! There's more (LOL). The fuel. Cheapest we've found, and the people at the dock are very patient and helpful!! Brian, Mike, and the rest of the crew... all very helpful. The City is doing it right. Stop by and say hi!!

Always a nice stop, 2016-05-25

convenient to downtown, 2016-04-18
Captain: , Chicago, IL (1056)

Not many amenities, but the marina is within easy walking distance to downtown. Called the marina when we realized we'd be arriving after hours, staff was very helpful providing bathroom codes and instructions where we could tie up, and to call the night watchman on Ch 16 - night watchman never answered. That seemed to upset the Harbor Master when we told him the next morning. Least expensive fuel we've seen from Tampa to Stuart and beyond. If we head West again we'll stay at the yacht basin again.

Management response:
Thank you Folks for staying with us, and the kind words. We will look forward to assisting you in the future and wish you fair winds. It was our mistake that the night man was not notified of your planned arrival. We will try harder next time.

Keep your bicycles ON your boat!, 2016-03-25
Captain: , Fort Worth, TX (450)

We loved our stay here and will return often, but keep your bikes on your boat when you are not using them. Our bikes were stolen steps away from our boat. The heavy duty bike locks were cut. We know of 6 bikes stolen.

Management response:
We are very sorry about your bikes being stolen. Some parents did a lousy job raising their kids and they feel free to take someone else's property. We do look forward to accommodating you again, with much less "trouble" we hope. We are working with FMPD to try to control this kind of thing.

All Marinas should have this attitude, 2016-03-11
Captain: , New Buffalo, Michigan (780)

We stopped here for 3 days and stayed for a week. The marina staff gladly adjusted our slip fees to the weekly stay rate without asking. How cool is that. Every marina in Florida should use this marina as an example of how to do it. The other reviews tell the details accurately. Most of all the staff is priceless. free trolley can be picked up on First Street downtown thru end of April. Worth the tour thru town. Will be back.

Management response:
AWESOME! This is exactly the kind of results we work for. The Yacht Basin crew is frequently reminded that the ONLY reason that we are here is to assist our Customers in enjoying their boating experience while in the Fort Myers area. Also, fair business practices are the best kind of advertising.
A most sincere "Thank you" Captain Tom and we look forward to assisting you in the future,
Leif and the FMYB Crew

great stop, 2016-03-11
Captain: , Alabama (252)

close to town, good rates

Management response:
We are happy to have been a good stop for your boating adventures. The renovated downtown has really blossomed with many good restaurants and fun shops and we are fortunate to be within walking distance of this nice environment.
The rates are kept competitive, but having a full marina proves that they are fair as well.
Thank you and fair winds,
Leif and the FMYB Crew

An Excellent City Owned Facility, 2016-03-11
Captain: , Biloxi MS (100)

Reasonable rates, great diesel prices, friendly staff, clean restrooms & showers, close to downtown and many restaurants. The best stocked marina ships store we've seen in a long time - A mini West Marine, but with better prices. We stayed 03/09 to 03/12 and willl certainly be back next time we're in the area

Management response:
Well, it sounds like we did what we set out to do, provide a great boating experience in Fort Myers, Florida! Thank you for the acknowledgement and patronage of the facility and we look forward to seeing you at the dock again.
Leif and the FMYB Crew

helpful, friendly staff and a clean modern Marina, 2016-02-28
Captain: , Kingston, Ontario (10)

We requested a dock that could allow easy access for a handicapped crew member. This Marina offered us a great spot and had lots of shore crew available to help back our Catamaran in. Super friendly staff. Clean Marina with modern amenities. Good laundry machines, clean, recently renovated showers and a well stocked Marina store. Free coffee, wifi and a business computer/printer available. Easy walk to a historic downtown that had many interesting restaurants with good food. I would recommend this Marina to anyone looking for reasonable rates and great service.

Management response:
Hooray! We did our job well. Thank you for the positive feedback and we wish you more happy boating.

Great location in the center of activity, 2016-02-25
Captain: , Erie, Pa. (1896)

Here night of 2-22-16 on board 56 Carver Barbara Ann. Docked on inside wall with good water depth and good power. All activities very close. Nice marina.

Great stop, close to everything, 2016-01-15
Captain: , Grand Rivers, Ky (2206)

Stayed two nights to visit local attractions. Very nice marina and friendly helpful staff. Pump out at each slip. Our only disappoint was our slip was on the inside of the break wall, a little rocky with 10 mph NE wind.

Management response:
Hello Folks, sorry for the rocky ride, staff should have found a smoother place for you. Next time we will do a better job.
Thank you for staying with us,
Leif and the FMYB Crew

Nice town for a stop, 2016-01-12
Captain: , Sunset Beach, NC (1146)

The town of Fort Myers is a very nice place. Free bus, although we made the nearly 1 mile walk to the Publix. Great restaurants and bars nearby, be sure to visit the Ford Garage for some good food, just a few blocks away. Marina is nice, although I gotta say, newly renovated showers are still not as nice as other places. Very helpful staff and a very well stocked ships store has almost as much stuff as a WestMarine. Will stop again, although then next marina down is closer to the Publix if you want to walk.

Management response:
Thank you for staying with us. I agree about the restrooms not being nicer. They are being renovated for ADA compliance and when the major work is done, we will add some really good final touches which will make them much more appealing and useful. Try the free trolley to Publix and all of downtown from right in front of the marina next time.
Thank you again, Leif and the FMYB Crew

Keeps getting better., 2015-12-26
Captain: , Englewood, FL - Winter, Cape May, NJ -Summer (1076)

Complete renewal of the bathroom/showers in progress. They have a unique solution to the construction congestion that works with little inconvienience. Staff is friendly and helpful. A great example for other municipal marinas with "do not care" attitudes to learn from. One of our favorite stops.

Management response:
Thank you for a valid and honest review. We appreciate the comments and we will continue to try to earn positive feedback.
Leif and the FMYB Crew

Staff is outstanding, 2015-12-12
Captain: , Buffalo (832)

We've stayed at some really nice marinas along the way, but the staff here could never be topped; they will do anything to make your stay comfortable. We stayed for a month because we wanted to leave the boat in a slip while we visited friends on the coast. Everything was fine and we left for a few days to anchor around Sanibel and Captiva Islands, and they helped us tie up easily. Live-aboards are different, though, some of them treat it as their own private club. Never got to use the showers because they odd-even hour sex management to use the one facility is not worth the bother.

Management response:
Thank you for choosing to stay with us and we appreciate your comments. The restroom renovations are indeed troublesome, but should be completed shortly. Customer service is absolutely critical as it is in fact the only reason that we are here!
Leif and the FMYB Crew

Men's restrooms and showers closed since Oct. 15th, 2015-11-07
Captain: , Venice, Fl. (949)

You would think they would tell you when you make a reservation. Both sexes share the women's facilities, men for the odd hour and women for the even hour. 2 porta pottys for your off hour restroom needs.

Management response:
The previously shown response was to a prior review and somehow carried over.
I fully agree with Ken that any important information should be shared at the time a reservation is made, and not have the customer surprised when the arrive. The restroom renovations have been totally complicated by government mismanagement and the overriding federal lawsuit which instigated the renovations.
They will be great when they are done and we will ensure that everyone is kept informed in the future.
Sincerely and with our apologies,

Leif and the FMYB Crew

just stopped here for fuel but staff was very helpful. needed to add some air pressure to my steering and they brought me out a portable tank that did the trick very nicely. they also have a nice ships store with good prices. stocked up on a few spare filters and parts and continued on our way. next time would like to spend a night or two.

Management response:
Thank you for the review. we will continue to try to exceed expectations.

Great Service and attitude, 2015-10-18
Captain: , Charleston SC (10)

I have stayed at Ft. Myers Yacht Basin for several months. They are always helpful and have answered any questions I have asked.

The staff is always pleasant and are top notch.

When my yacht was unattended they kept an eye on it and notified me when there was an issue. I was once taking on water and they got it resolved. Great enough that they noticed, but they actually had somebody rectify the situation.

On top of all that, the location is fantastic and is in walking distance to a fantastic area with restaraunts and bars. It is also very convenient to shopping of all sorts.

The only issue that I have, which they assure me they will take care of is that they had Owl Creek Boat Works on their vendor list. Owl Creek Boat Works is the WORST place I have ever dealt with.

Management response:
Thank you Ron, we appreciate your choosing the Fort Myers Yacht Basin. Two complaints against any vendor and they are removed from our list. We understand the frustration of poor service.
Leif and the FMYB Crew

Outstanding marina and staff!, 2015-07-02
Captain: , Titusville, FL (70)

Got here at about 4:00 PM on July 2, got fuel, pump out and tied into a slip by 4:45 with a crew member at my side the whole time. Exceptional service and a wonderful, downtown, location. We may stay longer than our planned three days.

Management response:
Thank you folks,

Friendliest staff in Florida!, 2015-06-11
Captain: , panama city (10)

My husband and I have been on our trawler for three years now and stopped at the Ft Myers Yacht Basin in downtown Ft Myers to have repair work done. From the moment we rolled in, we were greeted by staff welcoming us and helped us tie lines and hook up electricity. The staff was fantastic and always smiling! They have the friendliest and most accomodating staff in all of Florida! The marine store has everything one needs. The showers are clean. Publix and CVS are within walking distance and I found a great yoga studio within 2 blocks. Lots of things to do in downtown Ft Myers within walking distance. Congratulations to the management and staff at this marina for such a successful operation. It has been a pleasure being here.

Outstanding Service, 2015-04-15
Captain: , St Petersburg, Fl (222)

We stayed here for one overnight on 041315. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. The showers were clean and it is an easy walk to the redeveloped downtown section. Perfect location before going into the Okeechobee Waterway Locks or when you have just exited the lock system. Diesel prices were very good as well. Steve A

Management response:
Hello Steve,
We "shop" the area fuel prices a few times per year and set our prices near the bottom. We are glad that your experience was positive as my mantra is that "the only reason that we are here is to accommodate the boaters", and the crew works well to meet that goal.
Thank you,
Leif and the FMYB Crew

A month in Fort Myers, 2015-04-05
Captain: , charlottetown (10)

We have just spent a month here in the Fort Myers Yacht Basin (mid March to mid-April 2015) and had a wonderful stay. The staff are great and the facility well equipped and maintained. It is very nice being so close to the historic district with restaurants a few minutes away. We look forward to coming back for another stay next winter. The transient rate is very reasonable!

Management response:
Thank you Geoff,
We are very happy to be able to provide the good experience that you had and we look forward to accommodating you again.

Great spot for provisioning and entertainment, 2015-03-20
Captain: , Port Aransas, Texas (222)

Great location right in downtown Fort Myers. Lots of restaurants, bars, culture, and shopping just a few blocks away. Lots of busses go right by and one is free and goes right to Publix. The ships store has a tons of marine stuff and can get you most any thing else in one day from thier catalog. Fided docks, but great protection from wind and wakes. Very safe area.

Management response:
Thank you Cap't, We are glad that you enjoyed your stay in Fort Myers. The downtown has grown into a fun destination with the great shopping and dining. We try to be the best with our ships store as it makes for happy boaters!

Nice Marina Facility, 2015-03-11
Captain: , Palm Coast, Florida (311)

Stayed here January 7,8, 2015 heading westbound and March 1, 2015 heading eastbound. Excellent facility with an extremely friendly and helpful staff. Fueled here going both directions. Competitive diesel prices. Well stocked ships store, Great restrooms showers and laundry. Easy walk to downtown restaurants and shops. Fruit and Vegetable market under the bridge west of the Marina. I stayed here on their mooring field the year before, which is across the river. While the mooring field was very resonable, at the time most of the balls didn't have pennants. It was a challenge to pick up ball. The marina is a better choice than the mooring field, for me anyway.

Management response:
Thank you Kevin,
We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay at the marina and look forward to helping you enjoy your boating again! We always try to keep the fuel prices as competitive as possible, as well as the other charges and fees.
Leif and the FMYB Crew

Wonderful location, fantastic people, 2015-02-18
Captain: , Cocoa FL (670)

We stayed on a mooring for two nights while arranging some HVAC work. Leif and his entire staff that we met (Jill, Rod, Brian) were absolutely outstanding. It was very apparent that the staff here have a lot of pride in their city and their marina and enjoy their work. The great staff, perfect location, and the low diesel price make this a must-stop for us. We will be back

Management response:
Thank you very much for the kind words! We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and plan on returning and we look forward to assisting you again in whatever ways we can.

Pleasant stay, 2015-02-15
Captain: , Norwalk (293)

We kept our boat at the Yacht Basin for nearly two months. The staff are helpful and flexible. The marina could do with a refresh though everything is functional. The main downside is that there are many people coming from downtown on to the basin and have access to marina as there is no gated or fenced off area.

Management response:
Hello Raf, Thank you for staying with us and we hope to see you again. I agree with the appearance improvements needed and while my focus has been on structural integrity, I will direct more funds to freshening up the look of the place as well. I appreciate the comments as they help us find and correct our weak points. While some would prefer the facility be gated, it is a public feature which allows folks access to the riverfront in a beautiful marina setting which makes the downtown even nicer. Perhaps some of the outer docks will be gated in the future.

Great City Marina, 2015-02-13
Captain: , Fernandina, FL (428)

This is a great stop. We came in with short notice on busy Art Festival week and Leif accommodated us. Leif and staff are great help for dcoking, fueling and any needed directions. Pump out at slip is convenient. Can't beat intown location and walk to just about anything.

Management response:
This kind of review is what we work for. Thank you and we hope to see you again.

Lovely downtown!, 2015-02-04
Captain: , Penetanguishene, ON (162)

We stayed here for a month. Great location, a few blocks from a beautiful downtown area with street cafes, galleries and special events every weekend. Well run and clean marina.
Note: we purchased a parking pass from the City of Fort Myers for less than the marina charged for parking and ended up parked right beside our boat instead of in the out-of-the-way Marina lot.

Management response:
Hello Folks, thank you for staying with us and we are glad you enjoyed the renovated/recreated "River District" of downtown. Parking is always an issue in the area and gets even tighter during the winter season. A new nearby garage is in the works and that will at least add to the inventory. We hope to see you again.

The city is well worth the time to explore. It is simply beautiful and well kept. Well stocked ship's store, cleand showers, and free trolly service to the store,

Management response:

Difficult to get rate and then higher than published, 2015-01-22
Captain: , Moyock, NC (1054)

Couldn't accomodate our 40' boat for a month. Offer their monthy rate for 2-wks. $1,040 total to include electricity = $1.85/ft. I don't know if this included USBoat or AGLCA discount.

Across at Cape Coral Municipal they offer their published rate as published $545.90 total, incuding electricity, and could accomodate us for the whole month.

Management response:
My apologies to Captain Kay for the misinformation she received.
It is correct that we could not accommodate her vessel within the marina as requested without temporarily relocating it due to two very large multi-day festivals which have the marina interior booked solid. The current demand for dock space is very strong and at a eight year high for the marina.
Our daily rate is $2.00 per foot with 10% off for SeaTow, BoatUS and AGLCA memberships. The monthly rate is $14.00 per foot which would have been only $560 plus metered electric.
The marina staff will work on better communications with our customers and we hope to be able to meet Captain Kay's needs in the future.

I echo previous reviews. Staff is very friendly and eager to make your stay a happy one. Was informed of some upgrades comming that will make it an even better place to stay.

Captain: , Greenville SC (250)

This is the second year we have stayed for more than a month, and it continues to be our favorite Marina and city on the west coast. All of the marina staff were extremely helpful for each of our needs. The cost is reasonable. The city is one of the best places, with everything you could ask for: a variety of restaurants and bars, nice weekend entertainment, a grocery store within easy walking distance, a modern library close by, and an easy car rental.

Management response:
Thank you Captain David,

Feels Like Home!, 2015-01-04
Captain: , Stuart FL (768)

From the first conversation to make a reservation, everyone at Fort Myers Yacht Basin was pleasant, helpful and professional. Unforeseen circumstances required changing the arrival date a couple of times but Leif, the dockmaster, and others were most accommodating. Even though FMYB was sold-out for New Year's Eve, they found a slip for us. Stayed for the downtown celebration and glad we did! Great fun. Then another couple of days before finally shoving off. Rest rooms are dated, like a typical municipal marina. But nice lounge with TV, coffee and well-stocked store. Weekly / monthly rates very reasonable. Enjoyed it all so much, tough to leave. Will return!

Management response:
Thank you Folks,

Good marina in a good place, 2014-08-11
Captain: , philadelphia (440)

We stayed four days and would definitely stay again. When coming from the east, the entrance comes up fast to port after the second bridge, so be alert. The dockhands were very helpful and the ships store had some things we needed for hull repairs at decent prices. The location's great too, though that does bring some pedestrian lookers-on, they peter out by late afternoon.

Government gone good!, 2014-07-29
Captain: , Salem,AL (120)

I never expect much from government of any kind but this marina stands head and shoulders above most. I always call ahead to be sure of services available. Everything was handled with professionisim. Dock hands were waiting, fuel price was excellent, maintence available(we thought we had a loose prop and had a diver check it). Great ships store. Easy walk to downtown and several resturants. One suggestion.....the city sells their old cars and trucks at auction. Keep one or two at the marina for courtsey cars. Airports do it all the time. That would make this marina a 15 out of a possible 10!

Management response:
Thank you folks! We appreciate your business and helpful words.

One of the best on the Waterway, 2014-06-05
Captain: , Nelson, New Zealand (62)

We have stopped at dozens of marinas over the years, including this one several times in the past. Last time I was here, several years ago, I wasn't impressed, but the improvements in the staff and their attitudes is amazing.

We came here in January planning to stay four days and ended up staying for four months. We were on our way to South America and needed a place to make a few repair and to provision for a month-long trip, and this kproved to be the perfect spot to do it. Everything you need is right here or within a sort bus ride. West Marine, Walmart, Lowes and all the rest make provisioning easy. There is free shuttle service to the grocery store in the winter months, but it is only a mile or so anyway. We usually walked because the waterfront esplanade was so pleasant. The town has restaurants, theaters, and some special event going nearly every weekend. The marina staff is friendly and helpful. Lief, the dockmaster treats your problems as his own and will bend over backwards for any reasonable request and a lot that arent so reasonable. Jill, Denese and Sue run the office and are right there when you need them while the dock crew is also tops.

Management response:
Thank you Jim. We appreciate your business and your helpful comments.

Stayed night of 5-7-14.
Just all around easy. Short way off Okeechobee Waterway route, very well protected. Helpful staff to handle lines and check us in after regular hours. Entertainment complex is only about 3 blocks south and 2-3 west. Just listen for the music. Restaurants and bars, and a really good jazz band the night we were there. Nice vibe.

City of Ft Myers Yacht Basin, 2014-05-17
Captain: , Wickford, RI (1637)

Nice marina very near to downtown. The city has done a great job with making the downtown a great place to spend time.
Concrete fixed docks, a shared finger pier between boats with plastic covered, small diameter pilings. Large pilings beyond end of pier requires lines to hold boat in position. Piers approx 35 ft with outer pilings approx 20 ft further.

A marina that offers all the essential services and facilities for the livaboard and transient cruiser., 2014-05-08
Captain: , Charleston SC (805)

This marina responds immediately to VHF Chanel16. You are greeted upon arrival by a Dockhand who assists in docking including plugging in power cords and secureing docklines in a seamanlike manner!
The wide slips are fixed concrete. The wood pileings appear new and in good condition. In addition to water and electricity each slip has its own pump out facility, most convenient.
In addition to well placed garbage dumpsters the marina has containers for recyclables. Also disposal facilities for hazardous waste, oil, filters batteries and paints etc.
The City Yacht Basin sells marine fuels, has sparkling clean shower rooms, a small marine and convenence store which proudly boast if we do not have it we will get it for you!'. Staff all speak boat and really make you feel welcome to the marina and to the City Of Fort Myers
Fort Myers is a destination, the revitalised downtown is a safe, vibrant area offering, restaurants, interesting shops, threatre and a varied art and music entertainment program.

We arrived here on Jan 30, 2014. It was an unplanned stop since we were on our way to Goodland, FL where we had spent the past two winters. Weahter caugth us so we pulled in for the night. It is now Apr 6 and we are still here. The marina staff are very competent, courteous and friendly. The marina is clean, has great facilities for showers and laundry and boat store. We are also a 5 min walk from downtown Ft Myers which is delightful. There are several 5 star restaurants nearby, thearters with great plays and of course my fav Starbucks. Publix grocery is a 15 min walk away. The marina has Valtech fuel and an oil desposal tank. Since we have been here we have had engine repair, canvas work, and teak work and all the vendors were easy to fund and plentiful in the area. Any time we are in the area we will stop here. A great place.

Last night the marina treated us with their customer-appreciation event: a catered sunset cruise on a local dinner-cruise boat. We always look forward to our annual stop here. Service is exceptional, location is right in the heart of historic downtown Ft Myers, and there's a free trolley that goes, among other places, right to Publix. Wish there were floating docks, but tidal range is low so it's not really a problem. New pricing is $1/foot/week in winter for transients, or $1.95/night.

We came here for St Patrick's Day with the St James City Boat Club. The facility is clean. You are protected from any waves. Downtown Ft Myers is very attractive. We had a great time. the staff here was exceptional.

In the Center of It All, 2014-03-12
Captain: , MV Red Head (3106)

The City of Fort Myers Yacht Basin is located in the center of the Ft Myers historic downtown, close to shops and dining. You are just minutes away from all Ft Myers has to offer. With an affordable dockage rate you can stay long enough to take it all in. The docks are solid and protect you from any wave action. The staff is friendly and helpful. There are lots of choices for walking the dogs. And a Publix is a reasonable walk so you fill in your galley items.

Very Accommodating, 2014-03-09
Captain: , Kent Island, MD (392)

The facility is clean and the staff is knowledgable and friendly. Our previous night's stay was at Franklin Lock so we arrived early-11:30AM- no problem. On Sunday morning I asked what time we should leave and was told to stay as long as we wanted. No extra charge unless we spent the night. It's no wonder this Marina gets such good reviews.

What a great stop, 2014-02-15
Captain: , Southport, NC (716)

Exceptional staff to say the least. We came in the night of the pot luck Valentine party. The marina cooked the hamburgers and hot dogs. We got an package with things to do in the city as well as a free trolly to ride. The location was spot on. Good restuarants within walking distance. Everything was A1 except the docks were a little strange with these little plastic poles to keep the boat off the concrete dock. Dont let that hamper you from visiting here. Next time we are in the area we will come back to this marina. The city should be proud of thier staff.

Ft Myers Yacht Basin would get 5 stars if they had floating docks.
The staff is exceptional! Facilities are clean and nice. 4 washers and 4 dryers in the laundry. Fuel, pumpout at each slip, water, 30 & 50 amp service, great ships store, clean restrooms and showers, protected slips.
No courtesy car, but you don't really need it. You are right in downtown Ft Myers. Publix grocery store is a long hike, but there are numerous restaurants within 5 blocks.
Did I mention the exceptional staff?

Safe moorings, 2014-02-13
Captain: , Newcastle upon Tyne (533)

A safe place to stop but some way from the dinghy dock across the ICW. Traffic noise from the bridges not good. Shore facilities and staff good though. Reasonably priced moorings.

Simply outstanding, 2014-01-28
Captain: , Muskegon, MI (3132)

Extremely well run, friendly, and helpful. RIDICULOUSLY cheap mooring balls ($9.58 a night with BoatUS discount). We were going to take a ball, and paid for one, but once we got a look at the arrangement we ended up anchoring....not that there was anything wrong with the balls, but the anchorage is actually closer to the dinghy dock. To anchor here, just look for the markes next to the Easternmost bridge and follow them in.

one of the best!, 2014-01-13
Captain: , Racine Wisconsin (161)

Located a block from the newly renovated downtown restaurant district. Fantastic, service oriented staff. Pump out at the dock. Ships store has great prices and will get anything you need. If they don't have it they order it and it arrives that afternoon. Finally, the price is right!

The WIFI WORKS!, 2013-12-10
Captain: , Sault Ste Marie, MI (240)

The dockhands were knowledgeable, efficient and friendly. The shower room was spacious and clean. There is what appeared to be a well stocked ships store. And unlike 99% of the other marinas we have stayed in, the WIFI signal was strong and dependable. As others have stated there are a number of restaurants within close walking distance; we tried the French Connection and were well pleased. This was a very pleasant stop.

Excellent marina, 2013-11-28

came in late and dockmaster offered to meet us well past 7 PM, didn't take him up on it but appreciated the offer, the whole staff is like that- what can they do to help you. resonable rates and fuel, good (but fixed) docks, walking distance to shopping and restaurants, overall a great stop

Ft. Myers City Yacht Basin, 2013-08-25
Captain: , Tampa, Florida (100)

Stayed in the Municipal Marina for 4 nites in mid August, 2013, prior to an east bound Okeechobee transit. We have stayed at this Marina in the past and the staff always surpasses our expectations for knowledge, friendliness and ability to help. The facilities are top notch, clean offer anything a boater needs.
We had only planned to stay 1 nite, but business obligations required staying thru the weekend and departing on Tuesday morning. Once again, the staff was most accomodating, and our dog, Marley, will never forget all the treats the office staff provided. This is one of our favorite marinas in southwest Florida.

Nice and clean, 2013-08-24

Captain: , Zanesville, Ohio (100)

The folks here are very helpful to new trawler captains. We recently returned from an 8 day offshore trawler school trip and needed fuel and a pumpout. The winds were strong and I received great assistance docking and departing and the entire staff was freindly.

Mixed Review, 2013-01-30
Captain: , Athens, AL (641)

The marina is very nice, good price, great location to downtown which has undergone lots of recent improvements. Great food at Ford's Garage. Lots of help with arrival and docking. Well-stocked shipstore.

About the price - we planned to stay 2 nights but paid just for one initially just in case we needed to leave. When we did stay the second night and went in to pay (just as we were ready to leave), the lady at the shipstore tried to charge a higher rate, even with a copy of the previous day's receipt in hand. It took us an hour to get her to honor the originally agreed upon price. (Since then, the dockmaster has contacted me regarding this issue and explained that we were erroneously undercharged for the first night. He is in agreement that the original price should have been honored for the 2nd day without question and we should have been out of there in a matter of minutes as expected. He has reviewed what happened with the employees to try and ensure these type of discrepancies do not occur in the future).

Also, they recommended an electronics shop (Diversified Yacht Services) that did not work out at all. The marina seemed concerned and made some notes, but then we had the price issue. Hopefully the DM's follow-up will correct that problem. Otherwise, great marina.

Cheap fuel, solid docks, helpful staff, 2012-12-07
Captain: , Algonac, MI (1659)

Brian was very accomodating. Didn't like shower curtains for doors in toilets. Fort Myers is trying, but the neighborhood is shaky. Boater's lounge only open during business hours.

Very good marina, 2012-12-01
Captain: , Punta Gorda, FL (644)

Well run and helpful, friendly staff. Great ships store. In slip pump out and reasonable fuel prices

But the best thing about this place is it's proximity to the exciting revitalized downtown, with great atmosphere, food and fun. Usually something going on. Try to catch bike night for great people watching.

Don't miss the Edison/Ford estate. The City of Palms, indeed!

Where have you been all my life, 2012-10-09
Captain: , Boca Raton, FL (1421)

Coming from Stuart, FL on the way to Texas, we stopped here for the night. We got in a little late and it was pouring rain. Called the night dockmaster and told him we would standoff the docks until the rain stopped. He offered to get suited up anyway. We waited. He docked us next to the fuel dock so we would not have to move in the morning. Gave us a list of Restaurants that were still open.. Ended up at Red Rock (sunday night)... don't waste your time! But Downtown was fantastic. Went into the Ships Store in the morning. The most complete that I have seen in a long time. They also have highend grills by the docks, the best showers I've seen in a while, extremely helpful and friendly staff. It is now on my 'Must Stay' list.

good place to stay, 2012-09-13

The Place to Stay, 2012-06-16

Wehave stayed at other marinas here, and they were very good, but the location and price and staff and protection, and ease to dock, make this a winner.

Great Stop, Helpful Marina Personnel, 2012-02-19

Had a nice 4 day stay., 2012-01-23
Captain: , Kingtston Ontario (273)

The staff were friendly & very helpful. Showers were clean, although when I went to use the mens room one day it was filthy & had water?? all over the floor, the remaining 3 days it was clean. It does appear that anyone can wander around the marina, & there does not seem to be any night time security. We would stop here again. Fuel dock is an easy get to.

Really nice stay, 2011-12-06
Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (537)

Friendly, professional staff and dock help. The dinghy dock access is free, but if you get full access to the facilities for only $5/day. This includes hot showers, laundry, free wifi, small lounge with TV. For $8/night, you can grab a mooring and not worry about the 180 deg swing in the current. They also have free day-use docks which we took advantage of for provisioning. I would have given 5 stars, but the men's showers were a little dirty. The women's showers were fine. Publix is about 1 mile away on nice flat streets.

Great stop with lots of services, 2011-11-20
Captain: , Little River, SC (1987)

Had a great stay here. Marina is convenient to local restaurants and shops. Free pumpout facilities at each dock. Very well supplied marine store and a very helpful staff. We had laundry to do and they kept the facilities open later so that we could finish our wash past 11:00PM. Normal closing was 10:00PM.

An excellent stop, 2011-06-22

Captain: , St. Petersburg, FL (260)

My boat and friend's boat stopped here for fuel on our way across the Oke to Clewiston...very friendly, attentive staff. We spent some $$$ on filling both boats, and the dock master gave us each a bottle of wine! Would defineltly stop here again, and would consider staying a few days.

Busy but good service, 2011-02-25
Captain: , Georgetown, MD (145)

Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for fuel and pumpout. Very busy but organized, with the dockhand keeping everyone moving. (He even handled the pumpout when I was busy fueling.) Appeared to be a well-equiped store attached.

Also possible to get to the fuel pumps by laying along the inside of the bulkhead if the outside is full.

Totally Updated, Highly Recommend, 2011-02-17
Captain: , Fort Myers Beach (276)

Mile Marker 135 on the Okeechobee Waterway, 15 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico, Fort Myers Yacht Basin is a well designed and protected marina. It is owned and operated by the City of Fort Myers. There is 10 feet of water in the ICW and an average of 6 feet of water at the docks. The docks are in good condition and the staff is competent, professional, friendly and helpful.

Great location right downtown. Clean showers and restrooms. We were there for New Yearrs Eve celebration. 15000 people attended and they even had a ball dropped from a fire truck crane. Not times square, but no security concerns either.

Mooring field $6/night between the bridges, 2010-12-22
Captain: , Seward, AK (130)

Enter via marked channel just SE of first (upstream) bridge. Mostly sailboat moorings but a few for larger powerboats (we are 48'). Uncrowded, called as we approached. Quite an urban setting, bridges carry lots of traffic, but noise was not a problem - large area.

Longish dink ride to the dock but once there everything is available. Total for mooring was $6, not $12 listed (may be temporary, but great deal). Great walking access to downtown Ft. Myers, two or three blocks. Free pumpout, free water fill, free showers, excellent helpers on the dock - we got our $6 worth. We also took advantage of very competitive fuel price ($300/gal diesel when we were there on Dec 1).

Ft. Myers Yacht Basin (City Dock), 2010-12-05
