Reviews for City Island Yacht Club
Functional, 2017-06-10

We stopped for a couple of nights and ended up staying a week. They have a convenient launch service that ran until midnight-ish, but I wouldn't try to arrive at 11:59 for a ride back to your boat. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The men's bathroom/shower, as previously described, is basic, not the ritz, but the co-captain reported that the women's facilities were superb. Variety of restaurants ashore. Can recommend the Black Whale. Two laundromats too. We commuted into NYC for several days. Buy a 7day MTA pass, and you can ride the Bx29 to the 6 subway at Pelham Bay. It's about 90 minutes to manhattan. Uber also serves the area. A few small corner markets but if you need more try the IGA in the center of town. Depth in the anchorage was no problem for our 7ft draft. You can come alongside their dock for water but for us it had to be mid tide or higher.

Bathrooms need serious cleaning., 2016-07-20
Captain: , Norwalk Yacht Club (112)

Picked up a mooring for the third time here on Saturday, July 16, 2016. The cluhouse is an older building, so the men's bathroom is in the basement through a small maze of wooden locker-lined halls. In the past they were kept clean, even having mints at the sinks.

This most recent visit was a different story. Clothes and towels were left in the shower stalls unattended and one bathroom stall was disgusting. Paying extra for a mooring was not enough to prompt me to explore other options when visiting City Island. This experience has.

Nice people, No Reciprocal, 2015-07-30
Captain: , East Greenbush, NY (745)

I'm used to reciprocal yacht club privileges being a free mooring or slip for a night or two, and while they list reciprocity on their web page, they don't seem to care about it when you check in. I was told that the last time they (the launch drivers) tried it, they got in trouble, so...

Regardless of that, we got a nice close in mooring right off the launch dock. Their mooring cost is a few dollars higher than the others in the area, but the 24 hour launch is great - no worrying about what time you get back or want to leave in the morning. The launch drivers seem friendly enough. You end up mid-island, so you can walk either direction on the main drag and get food. The larger grocery (the IGA) is about a 1.2-1.4 mile walk away though.

A great spot and great people, 2013-03-01
Captain: , Montreal (254)

Unexpectedly had to moor here for a couple of weeks in the summer of 2012. The Commodore and the club's staff were courteous and helpful, and were more than happy to offer advice and a buoy.
Only downside was the state of the toilet/shower facilities in the basement, but a small glitch in an otherwise wonderful spot.

Comfortable Stay, 2012-11-15
Captain: , Pilots Point (466)

Stayed overnight here at end of season on way to NYC, waiting for a favorable current through Hell Gate. Club has an old school atmosphere and YC staff treated us very nicely. Bathroom facilities could use some attention though.

Storm had rolled through a few days before our arrival and South winds caused many boats to break lose from their moorings, so beware of staying in similar conditions.

Enjoyed spending time on the Island and having breakfast at the City Island Diner, and browsing though nautical consignment shop on City Island Ave.

Nice place, 2012-07-26
Captain: , NYAC Pelham NY (171)

Very helpful with arranging mooring
Beautiful view of the city
mooring field can get noisy and crowded in the summer
Location of Big Tom can be deceiving when coming and going late atnight as northern and eastern marks are unlit

ok in a pinch, 2011-07-30
Captain: , Altantic Highlands (166)

The CIYC is a bit run down, the guest moorings need some attention, but the people are helpful and it is certainly close to the city and good enough in a pinch.

EASY ACCESS, 2011-03-17
Captain: , kingston, ny (37)

Moored her twice, '09 & '10. Very freindly and helpfull. Great location to await tides through East River. Facilities older but adequate.

A Trawler Amongst Sailboats!, 2009-08-29
Captain: , Vero Beach, FL (184)

We were the only trawler (50') in a sea of sailboats, but this was a great place to hang out during a storm; particularly good in NE winds. Convenient to restaurants (10-15 min walk). We at eat the Treehouse (Italian/Mediterranean...delicious!) Grocery (IGA) is about a 20 min walk. Easy to get into the city via bus and subway. 24 hour launch makes it easy to get ashore.

Great Sunset Views, 2009-03-17
Captain: , Manhasset, NY (131)

Have not visited but great sunset views and great vies of the Throgs Neck and Whitestone Bridges from the porch.
