Not walking distance. This is the IGA Grocery Store in Deltaville. While the selection isn't the same as major chains, they are especially helpful with provisioning. Tell them what you want and need and they will have it ready for you, meats frozen for example. Whatever you need in the grocery catagory, whether they routinely carry it or not, they will get for you.

J & W Seafood, located where the marina road intersects the main road, is an oyster and fish processing facility with a wide variety of seafood and great crab cakes.

Reviews for Chesapeake Boat Works
Alternator Bracket Custom Fabrication and Replacement, 2016-06-23
Captain: , Virginia Beach (10)

Detecting a severe alternator vibration just days before an offshore cruise, we called Chesapeake Boat Works on a Friday afternoon. By Tuesday, we were back in business. Words cannot express our gratitude for the prompt, professional, and personal service we received.

Great Service, 2016-05-14
Captain: , Southport Queensland (300)

Anchored in Fishing Bay and bad fuel in our outboard gummed up everything. Tried every marina at DEltaville sand every one said at least 6-8 weeks before they could even look at the motor. The "Major" one even said we should ttry Florida if we wanted it fixed before July! The Honda dealer Browns said at least July. How these guys keep their agency is amazing. These guys took took the dinghy within an hour, found a trailer and took it to a "local" outboard guy and it was back the next day. A bit hot on the hours but the work was done and all with a smile.

Hidden Charges, 2015-07-24
Captain: , Dartmouth, UK (60)

Visiting yachtsman circumnavigating from UK, Ocean Cruising Club, RYA Yachtmaster (Ocean). Once lifted into the yard we were overcharged for all work, at times double the actual time taken and indeed quoted by the yard manager Rick Farinholt.
In bringing this to owners attention we were threatened into paying by him saying he had overlooked the DIY 15$ a day and that the showers and lounge we had been freely given a key to should have been 50$ a week extra and that he would revisit our bill and not re-launch if we did not pay.

Workmanship poor, jobs started and then left for weeks in what I can only suppose is a rouse to then overcharge. Employees openly unmotivated and unhappy with management.

An up and coming marina!, 2015-04-01
Captain: , Annapolis, MD (636)

Nice restrooms, showers, and lounge -- note that they are a bit of a walk but we all need exercise after sitting on a boat all day.

The full service yard next door purchased the marina and are committed to improving. A new wifi was installed while we were there.

The manager, India, is great. To illustrate. At about 8pm she received a call at home from the USCG asking to pick up fuel for a disabled sailboat. She was there to meet the USCG. At about 0100 the USCG towed the disabled boat with torn staysail and disabled engine into the marina.

The only small downside is that Deltaville restaurants and west marine are 1.5 miles away. However the marina has a number of bicycles avaialbe for use.

We will definitely visit again

Excellent mechanics, although not fancy, 2014-11-11
Captain: , Rock Hall, MD (156)

Failed engine repairs from a prior boat yard required us to pull in here to correct the problems. CBW has top notch mechanics who fit us into a busy schedule and did the job right. We tested their work with some hard offshore runs, and had zero problems.
CBW is a working boat yard and not a resort marina, no pool (but they may share a neighbor's), WiFi only works in the office; however, the showers are clean, there's good power and water on the piers, and they have a nice SUV as a loaner car.
i highly recommend CBW if you need repairs or are looking for long-term storage on the hard.

Repeat Customers Prevail, 2014-10-27
Captain: , Shenandoah Valley (10)

We have done business with John, Rick and Lee for nearly ten years.

You see the same customers return year after year which speaks louder than any words of praise I can give. A number of long term contented and capable employees too.

Today they hauled out two wooden boats who have been here many times before and a couple of transients who probably heard positive reports iregarding them on the grapevine.

We bought our latest boat in Europe and passed many boatyards to bring it here for refurbishment. This time we will haul out in their newer yard, Stingray Point Boat Works which is across town and can handle wide catamarans and trimarans.

Full service AND DIY, 2014-09-26
Captain: , Onancock, VA (172)

I shopped boatyards on the middle Chesapeake Bay extensively and chose this one because Rick was the only one who wanted to see what he was dealing with before telling me how to install an autopilot in an older boat. I'm a DIY because I want to know how my systems work and for economic reasons. Prices here are competitive, equal or less than most. This is a deep water (10-15 ft.) yard also capable of handling large vessels on two railways. They have another yard on the other side of town that also handles typical drafts for the Bay and is equipped for catamarans. The reasons for the 5 stars are 1) not only do they do good work but they will tell you what they're doing and why, 2) they share their expertise and coach you in what you're doing, 3) you can live on board while the work is being done and they have a loaner car for trips to town, 4) I saw a personal interest in my project(s) and received support beyond my expectations not only on technical matters but in making my stay comfortable. And one thing I quickly picked up when talking to the yard staff is that they have a lot of experience so listen when they offer a suggestion.

Always Great, 2013-11-12
Captain: , Boulder City, NV (259)

This is my 3rd time here. Great rates. DIY allowed. Friendly, knowledgable staff and prompt reasonable service rates. Just ask Danielle and she'll set it up for you.

Great stop - will definitely return next year., 2013-10-22
Captain: , Michigan (583)

Reasonable rates - knowledgeable people - easily accessible water and power. Secure facility with supplies available. New West Marine and groceries within a healthy walking distance. Had boat hauled and stored again through summer 2013 and launched in October. Just a great place and people.

Vibration issue, 2013-10-15
Captain: , Montreal (82)

I had to re-align the engine with the shaft, I anchored in front of CBW and get in touch with them. With a really short notice, they take car of me and fix the vibration issue, all within the same day!
Rick (the owner) is very friendly and Profesionnal.

Just what a cruiser wants in a boatyard, 2013-06-27
Captain: , Great Falls, VA (1092)

I had a very positive experience hauling out here. Two brothers, John and Rick, run the yard, they are both very friendly and helpful and happy to take some time to discuss things with you. Its a full service yard that allows DIY, which to me is the best kind of setup.

They have a good parts department with a lot on the shelf so you dont have to run back and fourth to West Marine for that one fastener you forgot to buy.

They did everything promptly and when they said they would do it and did not get annoyed when asked about things, keeping my time living on the hard to the shortest time possible.

The courtesy car is a big plus for the full time cruiser and Deltaville has all the services one might need. Though propane refill is not convient to town, but the owner took my tank with him on his lunch break and got it filled outside of town for me, thats top notch service.

The rates are very reasonable and they didnt try to pad my bill or suggest unnessisary things (something I have experienced too often in full service yards), its obvious they care about the customer, not just the dollar. All the staff is friendly (not the surley guys that seem to hate boat owners that you find in a lot of yards).

If I am in the Chesapeake the next time I need to haul out, I will most certainly return here, it has probably been one of the most positive haul out experiences I ever had.

Its worth noting too that their dockage rates are very attractive even if you are not hauling out, $1/foot with use of a courtesy car is a real deal. Its not a resort marina, sure there is no pool or tiki bar or other silliness, but it has clean restrooms, laundry facilities and a courtesy car for about the cheapest price you can find on the bay. Just what most full time cruisers want and like in a marina. I always anchor out when in this area, but if I ever need to tie to a dock I wouldnt even consider going someplace else and paying more money.

Great Service, 2013-06-19
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (71)

Very professional!!! We are regulars.

Haulout Services for "Do it Yourself", 2013-06-05
Captain: , Chesepeake Boat Basin, Indian Creek, Va (71)

This is a very friendly yard for do it yourselfers, the staff is very nice and helpful and the rates are reasonable. We hauled Joss our 19 ton 50ft wood ketch there this year after decades of being serviced at another local facility. We were very impressed with the care that was given to our classic yacht.

Waiting..., 2013-05-29
Captain: , Charleston, SC (140)

We arrived earlier than projected but they got some hands on the dock to secure us. Temp tie-up. Went to move the boat and port engine did not start. Good that it happened here! Two new batteries installed Friday afternoon just before Memorial Day Weekend! Sweet!
Then everybody went home for the holiday.

A Great Choice for Repairs, 2013-05-15
Captain: , St. Augustine, FL (4015)

Knowledgeable and experienced staff backed by good management made our repair a positive experience. Knowing that we were traveling, they fit us into their schedule and completed the job on our first day at the dock. Charles, the mechanic, could not have been easier to work with and was a pleasure to have on our boat. He did a great job, using time efficiently to keep the bill reasonable.

Chesapeake Boat Works does have a few slips and could be a reasonable overnight transient stop, but their real business and is is serving as a boat yard, which they do well.

Great place!, 2013-01-07
Captain: , Yorktown, Virginia (391)

People are nice, service is fast, and they have a railway for larger boats needing to be hauled. The new operators are much more reliable and professional.

Great Value on the Chesapeake, 2012-12-12
Captain: , deltaville (90)

I have a 52 foot Ketch and they have no problem using their 40 ton lift for the haul out. Parts and services are great and a west marine store a short walk. Very reasonable rates. Restrooms and showers are basic but clean. If you need a place to lay up and do repairs I do not know of a better place.

excellent crew, 2012-11-28
Captain: , gwynn,va. (208)

Great haul out and monthly rates for winter storage.

Great people to work with, 2012-11-14
Captain: , Deltaville, VA (197)

Jon and his staff are first rate. Yard is clean and safe. DIY is permitted and not discouraged.

Excellent!!!, 2012-07-02
Captain: , Williamsburg, VA (200)

I've taken my 105' pleasure boat here twice now and both times the service was top notch. I'll be back for certain. Excellent workers, management, and office staff all at reasonable prices. This is the place to go. Finally!!!!!!

Rudder & Sail Drive work, 2012-05-09
Captain: , Oxford (41)

Had a good experience with intelligent workers. These guys did a good job of rebuilding the rudder and changing the hull flange on my volvo saildrive without scratching anything woodwork. They built temporary floor boards to drag the engine on.

They were also very cooperative for my DIY work. Best info I can offer is I would definitely return for another winer.

deep water dockage for larger boats, 2011-11-18
Captain: , Hampton, VA (2502)

Now known as Chesapeake Boat Works, this facility has deepwater (10 ft+) dockage available with 30A and 50A service. While the dockage is primarily for boats being serviced or awaiting haulout, transients can usually find space available. In addition to haulout, the yard has a good diesel mechanic and welder. Painters do excellent work from touching up after mnor accidents to complete refinishing. Yards is one of the few remaining to get work done on wooden hulls.

This is a working yard so amenities are limited to clean restrooms and showers. Yard will receive mail and packages and hold them. Within biking distance of the 2 West Marine stores and small grocery as well as fantastic hardware store.

Lots of boats are stored here by liveaboards while they travel home etc. Yard is secure, water and electricity close to every boat. Because of the number of liveaboards using the yard for haulouts and storage, there's a wonderful every changing community of people with substantial, often global, cruising experience. We stop here to catch up peole we've seen all up and down the coast from Canada to the Caribbean. Lots of community potlucks while everyone is getting ready for the next cruise.

Chesapeake Boat Works., 2010-09-27
Captain: , Charleston SC (805)

Recently had the need to replace an old domestic type 110V refrigerator. Rick Farinholt, President of Chesapeake Boat Works, one of 3 Brothers active in the management of this yard in Deltaville and sister yard in Urbana, specked out a replacement refrigerator and advised on its installation.
Out of consideration of our limited budget Rick F. encouraged us to do the labor intensive work of removing the old refrigerator ourselves. After installation of the new some cabinet work was required, although: of the highest quality: it was kept simple to meet a tight budget.
Our experience here has been positive in all respects, we found the staff knowledgeable, helpful and most considerate. A courtesy truck is available, the shoreside head and showers always clean.
In addition to the refrigerator project , the yard arranged a truck to deliver fuel at no direct benefit to themselves. Also to short haul LILY MARIA to pressure wash the hull and running gear at a rate competitive with that of a dive service.
No hesitation in recommending Chesapeake Boat Works which is a full service yard with both travel lift and marine railway capability.
We plan to be back next spring for our annual haul out.
